Nolan’s reaction to Debbie’s death makes more sense when you realize Viltrimites don’t have adrenaline the way human beings do and the fact that he’s lived hundreds of years, makes empathy more difficult. But he got his revenge regardless.
Hundreds? More like thousands.
I don’t read that the same way, Nolan is clearly upset, he’s just not going berserk, for all the horrible monstrous things Nolan has done over his long life he’s still at the end of the day a soldier, a professional, he controls his emotions and tempers them with patience, it has been said, beware the wrath of a patient man, and we see that here perfectly, Omni-Man is brutal but controlled and on mission, and that mission is inflicting pain on Homelander, he doesn’t care about collateral damage or making threats only completing the mission, meanwhile the moment Homelander starts to realize he’s facing someone who can actually hurt him He starts panicking and his attacks become wild and less effective. In short, it’s a perfect example of visual storytelling.
Nolan may saw Debbie as a pet, but you’d feel the same way if your dog or cat was murdered by a sociopathic, false victimising murderer.
@@ulfberht4431 Nolan told himself that he saw Debbie as a pet but did he really? If he did then He wouldn’t have stopped ponding away at Mark when He realized that he had broken his son’s body.

Man if someone boiled my pet alive with laser eyes I’d be throwing hands. I’d die but I’d still throw hands
One new thing I noticed was that basedon his eye movements, Omni-man IMMEDIATELY saw Debbie's corpse, let Homelander finish monologuing, then gave one of the most blatant comebacks in history. He didn't kill Homelander immediately; he wanted to humiliate him and make him suffer first
And you can safely guess that Homelander 'had some fun' with Debbie before killing her. I don't mean sexual fun, though.

„The only man in the sky is me” hits different with this one🗣️🗣️✈️✈️
One thing I love about this fight is how well it sells Homelander is just NOT used to trading blows with someone who can legit harm him. He's in an unfamiliar situation where he's blatantly outgunned, and reacts with both panic and total disbelief (bordering on denial) towards what he's experiencing. And given this is Homelander, arguably the most hateable character ever seen on death battle... it's pretty cathartic to watch.
He wasn't made and/or even trained to deal with something that is even close to a lelvel of threat that represent Omni man. He's just a human atrificially modified with the composite V to be usef as a tool of social media and fight basic crime like drug trafficing, terrorism, robbery, etc...
And, like you said, he always fight against people who are inferior at him. This result to him feeling superior to everyone and, when the situation flips to the other way, he is lost in his head and doesn't calculating rightf to understand and handle the situation (he doesn't seems to elaborate his battles in general, so yeah, he goes up front blindly and fall into desesperation).
Omni man on the other hand fights giant monsters and stops natural disasters all the time. And while he doesn't fight enemies stronger than himself all that often, he's done it enough to know what to expect.

I hope they actually reference DB when Homelander goes up against Omni-Man.
One aspect of this animation I really like is how the characters are angry. While Omni-Man is furious that Homelander had murdered Debbie and later threatened Mark, his anger never goes hot, he's the one controlling it, it's not controlling him. In contrast, when Homelander becomes furious that Omni-Man hurt him, he is fighting with even less finesse than the little he normally uses. It's implied by his expression that slamming Omni-Man and himself into a fuel truck was from lack of awareness of his surroundings rather than intent, his sonic shouts aren't battle cries but a combination of rage and fear, and while lasering Omni-Man, he puts himself in range for an easy hit against an opponent who has no ranged abilities. Homelander is being controlled by his anger and not the other way around.
I love that when HL tackles Nolan into the ground, he’s the one that comes out more injured. He did not know what he was getting into.
Even the fans of The Boys were rooting for Omni-Man. Homelander never stood a single chance.

omni man was more understandable even with just season 1 invincible context if you read comics omni is sympathetic won't get specific tho cause spoilers meanwhile homelander is opposite in series he bully and in comics you find out that his model for a super hero was superman unfortunately vaught did an old company oops and didn't actually read comics giving him only golden age and silver age which if you read superman is more insisted by writers of the pure good he is in comics now but back then he had stories about purposefully unhooking loises life support in space cause he thought she cheated ( she didn't) this is a tame example but it was a. commentary on how Hollywood does stuff for comics it had other stuff to say in messaging but comics were more about comic stuff
He technically _did_ stand a chance, with his high frequency voice ability; but since he had never been in an actual fight before, he couldn't use it tactically.
That's because real fans of The Boyz always root against Homelander. 😆
Tecnically that shouldnt even have worked since its a specfic Frequency@Solotocius

Facts
This isn’t even a fight this is just a one sided annihilation. What Omni Man said at 0:52 after he took that deep breath is 100 times more terrifying than all that ranting and raving Homelander just did.
It wasn’t even a fight. It was a one sided prolonged execution.
Not completely one-sided, but yeah.
And we wouldn't have had it any other way. Nolan had redeeming qualities buried under the Viltrumite conditioning, John had none. To modify Wiz's closing thoughts, one is a disciplined warrior, the other is a flailing bully.
And it was only prolonged because this, for the sake of giving Homelander any sort of ability to fight back, assumed his scream was the right frequency to hurt Viltrumites's inner ear and disrupt their balance.
In a real scenario Nolan bloody bodies Homelander in a milisecond.

It's not like Homelander had anything to combo his scream into even if it worked at that frequency anyway. It was just a harmless embellishment.
@@vincentleonard3797 More to the point, Homelander doesn't even have the tactical awareness to have NOTICED that his shouts hurt and disoriented his opponent, even though him doing that is what created the only two openings he ever got to put hands on the man. Homelander has NO IDEA how to actually fight, because he's never needed to learn, while Nolan is a centuries-old professional super soldier.
@@aeternusgaming8050 Haha, yeah. Homelander would get a better sense for tactics from video games than any of his "Hero work" by a margin the size of Texas. Though, he did get exactly one hit in before he started shouting: that tackle through the houses that took the "fight" outside. My take on that one is that Nolan, being so much more experienced, is used to fighting cooler heads, and thus was caught off guard by such a volatile enemy. Omni-Man's first exchange was the only attempt at trading blows during the whole encounter, and that tackle was where intentions were stated: this is not a battle, it's a message. I don't know if Vaught management even sanctioned his little hissy-fit, Homelander could easily be acting on his own here, and now Vaught is looking over their shoulder for a certain red-eyed wolf.

They noted that intense sound and heat were vulnerabilities of Viltrumites, Homelander had both.
He effectively had Kryptonite yet still never had a chance.
Yes Heat can hurt Viltrumites, but is "lets go inside the sun" levels of heat. And the sound things is a very specific type of sound, not just loud souds
Heat of the sun you mean
Specific sound frequency, not intense sound
Viltrumites only are weak to specific frequencies, and Omni Man survived the heat of the surface of the Sun. Nothing in Homelander's arsenal could've beaten Omni Man.
Because Homelander has never been in a fight with anyone who could match his strength. Never needed to fight smart. The moment he sees he's not in control of a situation, he snaps and goes berserk. Homelander also got his powers from a serum. No matter how powerful he is, he can't match a Viltrumite and he never has trained to effectively use his powers in a proper fight. Not only because he never met anyone who could fight him but because he's a cocky and lazy bully.
Viltrumites are a warrior race trained from birth. They get stronger as they age and if they suffer great damage. Nolan also has thousands of years of combat training and experience, having fought and killed members of his own race and other alien races. Unlike Homelander, Nolan is a true warrior and a killer.
The only person across both fandoms that thought Homelander stood a chance was Homelander himself.
Honestly even though the whole "high frequency weakness" is completely wrong - Viltrumites are only weak to a *specific* frequency - Homelander never stood a chance.

Nah, the main advantage Homelander had was the high frequency shouts that could (temporarily) shatter Omni-Man's eardrums. Of course, while this disorientated Omni-Man briefly, he could regenerate the injury very quickly and Homelander didn't have enough time, or power, to finish the job anyway,
It all ends with Nolan burying his wifes body and having to explain the terrible news to Mark while only keeping his own grief in check due to centuries of mental training he might of won but at what cost. 😔
Alternatively, in this reality he never fully realized how much Debbie actually means to him, and never will. Without Debbie, Mark also fully embraces the Vitrumite ways, and this incident jump-starts the Vitrumite invasion of Earth.

This may be a stomp in favor of Omni-Man, but this is still one of the best hand drawn Death Battles.
Same with Reverse Flash vs Goku Black.

I think they meant the later part.
"Was that important?"
After season 4 this is really refreshing
2:40 i love how after his heart gets ripped out homelander is like "heyyy... give that back :(" and omniman says nuh uh
my favorite part is how a good portion of the animation is just the small talk before the fight actually starts because the fight itself was over so quickly
The animation shows that Homelander is so poorly trained he can't throw a proper punch even when fighting for his life... And that Omni-Man is so incredibly well trained and experienced that even holding back as much as he can his punches are the same as a professional boxer.
Just another amazing moment for Death Battle's animators.
Now that I think about it, he probably never really had to throw a punch before. Practically no one he came up against was even close to his strength so he woud've been able to get by on powers alone. Be suprising if he learned to actually fight at all.
@@umhi9778 It's pretty open to interpretation, but I've always seen the fight at the end of Season 3 as making the case that Homelander has always been weaker than Maeve. His bravado and publicity just meant neither of them ever realized it.
The show did well by making Homelander weaker. In the comics he's basically a physical god. In the show, he's incredibly dangerous, but theoretically, he could be stopped. It really helps highlight that Homelander is only a symptom of the problem that they're up against.
Still omni-man is soo much stronger. Im actually surprised he held off that long. The first punches he got i'd think it would've been over already.
@@aenning That's because Omni-Man's skills and control are just that good.
His hand has the power to shatter mountains, but he can hold an egg without cracking it.
@@aenning Because Omni-man probably was holding back. He wanted to humiliate Homelander. It's only when Homelander threatened his son that he lost control, otherwise he may have let the fight drag on even longer.
Now we can do this in mk1😂😂
I literally did this fight 4X blasting Diabolical Invincible Me over the fight. And use Omni-Man’s second fatality and saying “Now Swallow.”
@@Garagelab164 your a omni man main?
You know whats funny? I would have loved to suddenly teleport Omni man into the boys universe just so he can deal with Homelander, but then I realized, he’d be so much worse 😂
Если вместе с ним туда переместятся ещё вильтрумиты - тогда да.
MK1 after DB makes Omni Man vs Homelander: I've gotta have one of those
This battle is so thematically fitting in terms of connections between both combatants, since not only are both of them darker and edgier deconstructions of Superman, but also contrast each other greatly in what makes them so dark and edgy in the first place; Omni-Man is a soldier sent to conquer Earth for the militaristic empire of his people, the Viltrumites, while Homelander is actually a super serum experiment born and raised in the labs for the sole purpose of being the perfect pawn for the fraudulent schemes of a corrupt super-"hero" megacorporation. And that contrast here is what really shows in the outcome of this bloody battle.
Killing debbie infront of omniman is the equivalent of killing john wick's dog infront of him

Omni-Man : I am not here for your country.
Me: He wants the entire Planet
My absolute favorite thing about this fight was how quickly it became apparent to Omni Man that Homelander had never been in an actual fight in his life.
2:14 And this here was my second. For the very first time in his life, not only did Homelander appear weak in front of the people who's validation he desperately craves, but he _Was_ weak.
For the first time in his life, he was the powerless one.
you might say he.... bit off more than he could chew
Right 😂
Like, all it took really was him pummeling Homelander against the wall, thinking to himself "Come on man I'm whooping you, where ya hands at?" 😂
Yes. Homelander ALWAYS was the big fish in a small pond. Now he decided to take his "awesomness" into a bigger pond. The problem here: The predator fish in that specific pond was A LOT bigger then he ever will be.

1:57 That terrifying moment when the blood on your hands isn’t somebody else’s
This is an incredible beatdown but I have to say the Shorts version, where they edit it so Omniman destroys Homelander's jaw without letting him finish his rant at the end, adds that one little cherry on top.
The fact he got his eyes incinerated makes him look so much more menacing 2:42
also what’s terrifying about that
is his eyes were closed
which means he basically memorised homelander’s exact height and facial features, accurately inferred what posture he’d have and acted accordingly
meaning he won’t forget your face and if you blind him it won’t do you any good whatsoever
Damn…
@@Jonzerker15 um no, it doesn’t take a trained soldier to know where someone’s jaw is with your eyes closed lol. Especially considering his eyes are being directly lasered from like 10 inches away, inferring their heads are lined up.
