Nolan’s reaction to Debbie’s death makes more sense when you realize Viltrimites don’t have adrenaline the way human beings do and the fact that he’s lived hundreds of years, makes empathy more difficult. But he got his revenge regardless.
I don’t read that the same way, Nolan is clearly upset, he’s just not going berserk, for all the horrible monstrous things Nolan has done over his long life he’s still at the end of the day a soldier, a professional, he controls his emotions and tempers them with patience, it has been said, beware the wrath of a patient man, and we see that here perfectly, Omni-Man is brutal but controlled and on mission, and that mission is inflicting pain on Homelander, he doesn’t care about collateral damage or making threats only completing the mission, meanwhile the moment Homelander starts to realize he’s facing someone who can actually hurt him He starts panicking and his attacks become wild and less effective. In short, it’s a perfect example of visual storytelling.
@@ulfberht4431 Nolan told himself that he saw Debbie as a pet but did he really? If he did then He wouldn’t have stopped ponding away at Mark when He realized that he had broken his son’s body.
One aspect of this animation I really like is how the characters are angry. While Omni-Man is furious that Homelander had murdered Debbie and later threatened Mark, his anger never goes hot, he's the one controlling it, it's not controlling him. In contrast, when Homelander becomes furious that Omni-Man hurt him, he is fighting with even less finesse than the little he normally uses. It's implied by his expression that slamming Omni-Man and himself into a fuel truck was from lack of awareness of his surroundings rather than intent, his sonic shouts aren't battle cries but a combination of rage and fear, and while lasering Omni-Man, he puts himself in range for an easy hit against an opponent who has no ranged abilities. Homelander is being controlled by his anger and not the other way around.
I really noticed how homelander wasn’t using his sonic screams and laser right he couldn’t use the sonic scream anytime and from far laser him but he wasn’t powerful anyways
There's a quote from Ender's Game (the original 1985 novel, not the movie) that sums it up nicely: "Hot anger was bad. Ender's anger was cold, and he could use it. Bonzo's was hot, and so it used him."
"You're fragile, my son is-" INVINCIBLE (water cracks through the screen above the N, bellow the E and far bottom right of the screen) Gotta do it like the show lol. New season is Nolan coming back to help fight off other "Supermen" from different universes.
You could argue that Nolan started taking things seriously when Homelander started threatening Mark, but even then it took Nolan about as much effort as swatting a one winged mosquito to kill the bastard.
i mean Homelander is just a sadistic manchild, he is not even a threat for Omni-Man. probably even one weak punch from Omni-Man would kill Homelander lol
@@Upermario360 Some people (questionably) love pets more than other family members. Knowing Omniman, I won't be surprised if Debbie means more for him than, say, Kragg (or whoever is that Viltrumite emperor). Especially after seeing that telepathic dialogue with Allen the Alien.
@@Ashireiko_Tatsumihe was lying to himself he doesn’t see her as a pet he just compared his life span to her +you don’t breed with your pet i doubt someone prideful as Omni man would let mark alive if he didn’t see his mom as an equal creature
I love how homelander actually found Omni mans weakness by screaming, but isn’t trained enough to recognize it and use it to his advantage, as he just switched back to his laser eyes
@@KT-ne6fm fair point, what I meant by that is that he really only fought a few people that are on (or close to) his level, like soldier boy, queen meave and butcher.
And we wouldn't have had it any other way. Nolan had redeeming qualities buried under the Viltrumite conditioning, John had none. To modify Wiz's closing thoughts, one is a disciplined warrior, the other is a flailing bully.
And it was only prolonged because this, for the sake of giving Homelander any sort of ability to fight back, assumed his scream was the right frequency to hurt Viltrumites's inner ear and disrupt their balance. In a real scenario Nolan bloody bodies Homelander in a milisecond.
2:00 You realize that Homelander is just an idiot with powers who did not realize that Omniman was affected by his scream and did not try to take advantage of it and repeated the same thing on impulse and not because he realized a weakness of the Viltrumites
I think the reason why Nolan didn't attack Homelander immediately when he saw Debbie died is because he thought Homelander wanted to help him to conquer the Earth. Just like the traitor of the Earth.
One thing I love about this fight is how well it sells Homelander is just NOT used to trading blows with someone who can legit harm him. He's in an unfamiliar situation where he's blatantly outgunned, and reacts with both panic and total disbelief (bordering on denial) towards what he's experiencing. And given this is Homelander, arguably the most hateable character ever seen on death battle... it's pretty cathartic to watch.
He wasn't made and/or even trained to deal with something that is even close to a lelvel of threat that represent Omni man. He's just a human atrificially modified with the composite V to be usef as a tool of social media and fight basic crime like drug trafficing, terrorism, robbery, etc... And, like you said, he always fight against people who are inferior at him. This result to him feeling superior to everyone and, when the situation flips to the other way, he is lost in his head and doesn't calculating rightf to understand and handle the situation (he doesn't seems to elaborate his battles in general, so yeah, he goes up front blindly and fall into desesperation).
Omni man on the other hand fights giant monsters and stops natural disasters all the time. And while he doesn't fight enemies stronger than himself all that often, he's done it enough to know what to expect.

@JhonAronAdevino Yeah seriously a few people were actually saying that,I wonder if they think the anime parodies of gods are as strong as the actual god
Here's another one: Homelander: Are you still mad at me for the whole Debbie thing last Christmas? Omni-Man: Remind me about that again & I'll make you swallow your own heart again.
Omni-Man: I'm going to feed you your own heart. Death Battle Fans: Yeah, now we know how this will end. *Butcher takes out his camera to record every single moment*
It was at that point Omni-Man realized Homelander never really fought a day in his life. As Wiz stated in this episode, "One is a warrior. The other is a bully."
0:55 love how he interrupts him and attacks. It's like he's showing him he is not in control of this situation at all and he has no business laughing and smiling
A small detail I noticed, after killing Debbie, Homelander also took the time to steal a cup of hot chocolate from Omniman’s fridge. Tells you how much of a petty jerk he is.
@@eliter1474That would actually be a horrifying scene to watch played out. @@Harrym14 viltrumites rely on an equilibrium within themselves, which can be disturbed by a specific frequency This is the only known weakness viltrumites have
I love how many references to both shows are in this despite the fight only being about 3 minutes. 1:35 The plane and train scenes from both series 1:58 The interrogation drop 2:34 The jaw rip Homelander did in Diabolical EP 8 being used against him 2:48 Nolan having bloodshot eyes like the finale of season 1 2:50 Red Rush's death
2:55 And the shot immediately after Homelander gets killed off is reminiscent of the "Think, Mark! THINK!!!" scene. Too bad they didn't have Omni-Man himself say something like that after he was done.
Also Homelander using his heat vision Lazers against Omniman's eyes and leaving them damaged the same way The Immortal damaged his eyes when he pluck them in their fight.
When it came to his son Mark, Omni-Man really wanted to "train" him in the Viltrumite ways, but for Homelander, he was trying to make his points "plane" & clear.
And when that didn't work, Omniman opted for trying to get Homelander to use his head before the downward trend caught up with him. Omniman is such a dedicated guy who never quits trying to help and always gets to the heart of the matter. 😂
I like how this accurately predicted how homelander would fight someone capable of overpowering him like what happened with butcher and soldier boy. When he is outmatched that ego dies quickly
2:25 Remember when Nolan tanked a satellite beam that only manged to give him the world's most expensive nosebleed? Homelander's heat vision probably felt like warm tap water by comparison. You can feel it, but it's not even hot to leave your fingers red.

@@countryboy1635 The original saying is older than dirt, but the specific "At this moment ____ realized his ____ was as useless as a screen door on a submarine" line during a fight is from Super Android 13 Abridged.
My absolute favorite thing about this fight was how quickly it became apparent to Omni Man that Homelander had never been in an actual fight in his life. 2:14 And this here was my second. For the very first time in his life, not only did Homelander appear weak in front of the people who's validation he desperately craves, but he _Was_ weak. For the first time in his life, he was the powerless one.
Right 😂 Like, all it took really was him pummeling Homelander against the wall, thinking to himself "Come on man I'm whooping you, where ya hands at?" 😂
Yes. Homelander ALWAYS was the big fish in a small pond. Now he decided to take his "awesomness" into a bigger pond. The problem here: The predator fish in that specific pond was A LOT bigger then he ever will be.
They noted that intense sound and heat were vulnerabilities of Viltrumites, Homelander had both. He effectively had Kryptonite yet still never had a chance.
Yes Heat can hurt Viltrumites, but is "lets go inside the sun" levels of heat. And the sound things is a very specific type of sound, not just loud souds
Viltrumites only are weak to specific frequencies, and Omni Man survived the heat of the surface of the Sun. Nothing in Homelander's arsenal could've beaten Omni Man.
Because Homelander has never been in a fight with anyone who could match his strength. Never needed to fight smart. The moment he sees he's not in control of a situation, he snaps and goes berserk. Homelander also got his powers from a serum. No matter how powerful he is, he can't match a Viltrumite and he never has trained to effectively use his powers in a proper fight. Not only because he never met anyone who could fight him but because he's a cocky and lazy bully. Viltrumites are a warrior race trained from birth. They get stronger as they age and if they suffer great damage. Nolan also has thousands of years of combat training and experience, having fought and killed members of his own race and other alien races. Unlike Homelander, Nolan is a true warrior and a killer.
This battle is so thematically fitting in terms of connections between both combatants, since not only are both of them darker and edgier deconstructions of Superman, but also contrast each other greatly in what makes them so dark and edgy in the first place; Omni-Man is a soldier sent to conquer Earth for the militaristic empire of his people, the Viltrumites, while Homelander is actually a super serum experiment born and raised in the labs for the sole purpose of being the perfect pawn for the fraudulent schemes of a corrupt super-"hero" megacorporation. And that contrast here is what really shows in the outcome of this bloody battle.
@@XX-sp3ttI feel like all the pet jokes and comments really don’t understand this. He DOES care. It was just his futile attempt to convince himself to go through with his mission
my favorite part is how a good portion of the animation is just the small talk before the fight actually starts because the fight itself was over so quickly
This isn’t even a fight this is just a one sided annihilation. What Omni Man said at 0:52 after he took that deep breath is 100 times more terrifying than all that ranting and raving Homelander just did.
@@vincentleonard3797 More to the point, Homelander doesn't even have the tactical awareness to have NOTICED that his shouts hurt and disoriented his opponent, even though him doing that is what created the only two openings he ever got to put hands on the man. Homelander has NO IDEA how to actually fight, because he's never needed to learn, while Nolan is a centuries-old professional super soldier.
@@aeternusgaming8050 Haha, yeah. Homelander would get a better sense for tactics from video games than any of his "Hero work" by a margin the size of Texas. Though, he did get exactly one hit in before he started shouting: that tackle through the houses that took the "fight" outside. My take on that one is that Nolan, being so much more experienced, is used to fighting cooler heads, and thus was caught off guard by such a volatile enemy. Omni-Man's first exchange was the only attempt at trading blows during the whole encounter, and that tackle was where intentions were stated: this is not a battle, it's a message. I don't know if Vaught management even sanctioned his little hissy-fit, Homelander could easily be acting on his own here, and now Vaught is looking over their shoulder for a certain red-eyed wolf.
@@totalhufflepuff203 Probably, but it doesn't exactly help that he lacked both the means and awareness to catch it. We're back to the Warrior-bully comparison from the episode. As big a fish as Homelander may be, he lives in a VERY small pond, and he just attempted to ride a river upstream.
The animation shows that Homelander is so poorly trained he can't throw a proper punch even when fighting for his life... And that Omni-Man is so incredibly well trained and experienced that even holding back as much as he can his punches are the same as a professional boxer. Just another amazing moment for Death Battle's animators.
Now that I think about it, he probably never really had to throw a punch before. Practically no one he came up against was even close to his strength so he woud've been able to get by on powers alone. Be suprising if he learned to actually fight at all.
@@umhi9778 It's pretty open to interpretation, but I've always seen the fight at the end of Season 3 as making the case that Homelander has always been weaker than Maeve. His bravado and publicity just meant neither of them ever realized it. The show did well by making Homelander weaker. In the comics he's basically a physical god. In the show, he's incredibly dangerous, but theoretically, he could be stopped. It really helps highlight that Homelander is only a symptom of the problem that they're up against.
@@aenning That's because Omni-Man's skills and control are just that good. His hand has the power to shatter mountains, but he can hold an egg without cracking it.

U better hope he meets people like Hughie, Starlight or Ryan first because literally anyone else is gonna mess up his already screwed perspective of humanity even more. It's basically upto who he meets first that makes him decide whether humans are worth anything

This is an incredible beatdown but I have to say the Shorts version, where they edit it so Omniman destroys Homelander's jaw without letting him finish his rant at the end, adds that one little cherry on top.

Homelander is being controlled by his anger and not the other way around.
ya know i really did not need u to tell me that but 🤪
I love that part where he put himself within arm's reach of an enemy without ranged attack.
Feels like what Homelander will do.

Not completely one-sided, but yeah.
And we wouldn't have had it any other way. Nolan had redeeming qualities buried under the Viltrumite conditioning, John had none. To modify Wiz's closing thoughts, one is a disciplined warrior, the other is a flailing bully.

Poor Debbie 😢
its probably why he made Homelander choke on his black heart of his.

Heat of the sun you mean
Specific sound frequency, not intense sound
You know Nolan IS pissed Homelander killed Debbie. He does love her and.... Well it's kinda like how you anger Greed by killing his friends.
