Fly Fishing for an Especially Native Strain of Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout

  • This small stream winds its way through meadows and forests holding a unique strain of Yellowstone Cutthroat trout in its waters that possibly date back to the last ice age. Chris Hunt writes about this and much more in his guide book on the park. I highly suggest you pick that up if you do plan on fishing in the park.
    The tight turns and twists of the stream create great undercut banks and pools that hide these beautiful natives the get up to 12" in length. We had to deviate from the stream multiple times because of a grazing Bison and after finding an elk carcass that was a little too fresh for our liking... So we left a good stretch of fishable water and walked about a mile back down stream to finish our day off before the evening thunderstorm hit.
