    I can almost agree with how the father in the last story reacted. He told her to be more responsible and communicate with him if something like that were to happen. @@indistinguishable7259 Yeah but if a parent _can_ pay for their child's education or at least help in some way that would ease the financial stress on the child, they should. I'm not sure what it's like in other places but at least where I live, it's pretty freaking hard to get a job, especially if you didn't go to college. Having the means to help your kid yet refusing is basically saying, "I don't care if you're able to get a job to care for yourself. I prefer having money rather than making sure my kid can get a job". The parent shouldn't bend over backward for their kid (like if the kid refuses to look at cheaper options or is aiming for a ridiculously unattainable degree/career or whatever) but if they can help, I believe they should.

      I mean, I don't think the daughter and her boyfriend are anywhere near in the right but the dad's reaction was kinda immature imo. He did explain to his daughter why he was upset but he shouldn't have said, "never talk to me again," or, "I don't know if I'll ever talk to you again". He has every right to be upset but he's also a grown adult with a daughter in distress and needs to act accordingly. If, after the daughter turns 18, he never wants to see or talk to her again, cool, but right now, she's 17 and he's not even bothered to see how she feels about the situation? The least that could happen is that they have a civil discussion so he and his daughter can understand where the other is coming from. The dad's got his reasons to be disappointed and upset and his daughter's got her reasons for why she waited to tell. If they could've shared those reasons in a conversation, at least they would have had a deeper understanding rather than, "I'm disappointed in my daughter and don't want to talk to her," and, "My dad's pissed at me because I chose to wait to tell him about the situation," and they might have been able to get an idea of how long it would be before they would be able to interact regularly again.

      Good parents, when they give money to their adult children, give it based on their children needs. It's not about "fairness". You can't calculate love and "keeping tabs" is a recipe for jealousy and unhappiness.

    I kinda understand where the father is coming from, having a child at 17, is pretty costly for the parent and they have to pay a lot to begin with, this is coming from a 19 year old myself. But the children usually have to come back and ask their parent for help, and they feel like they have to help something they warned about. Though not talking to her altogether is something, i understand what trust can do to someone even as a parent, imagine having someone tell you honestly all their life, and then the one thing they tell you, they dont be honest and they wait a week to explain, it can hurt

    I share my problems with the loud alarm guy. I set my alarm for 7am (2 hours before school starts) to revise lessons, have a calm breakfast, freshen up and all that jazz, but my dad calls me a masochist for doing that. I’m a light sleeper and apparently he’s one too, hence why both of us shoot up at the sound of it. But he likes to get up early as well, and just blames it on me just cuz my alarm rings before his. Masochism runs in the family I guess.

    I appreciate the thumbnail change. The original "I'm not paying for your college" wasn't that ridiculous. Most parents can't afford to pay for their kid's college, and making the kid pay for it from the get-go encourages them to try for scholarships or at least gets them ready and teaches them how to make and save money.

Like the first one I do understand him like it's his routine and changing it to him isn't gonna work but the solution is get an air mattress (who ever house it was originally get the bed the other gets the mattress or the could alternate idk but yeah sljust sleep somewhere else). Second story I can understand her point and Pegasus to so yeah just give Susan disposable income and only pay off the other daughters. And the last one I fell like the father was in the right 55% like yes he went overboard but he gave his daughter everything and vouched for her when ever she wanted to do it and when she went and did that it made him feel like a failure like if he pushed a bit harder this might no have happened and he also understand that his only daughter is now a teen mom and can't live life to her fullest but yeah saying you may not ever speak to her again is too extreme.

    the thing that would drive my mom crazy was I always slept through my alarm when I was a kid and it would wake her up cause my parents bedroom was right next to mine but the second someone even moved the door knob on my door I was wide awake in a instant. college was never really my style and I already knew college could be very expensive. so I just decided not to go cause I didn't want to burden my parents even though they offered to pay for it and cause I didn't really feel like I needed to go. not sure how I would feel if I had a daughter that got pregnant at 17 but completely ignoring her just doesn't seem like the right way to handle things. it is understandable if he needs a week to clear his head and think about things but the damage is already done, the last thing she needs is own father hating her. he can and should express his disappointment to her to some extent but ignoring her isn't going to help either of them.

    I get the dad being mad about the daughter getting pregnant. He warned her to be safe during sex, he stood up for her and they unfortunately ran out and said "oh well". Like, I get why he is mad about it because when you look at it from an age perspective, she cant rent or buy property... where will the money come from to support a child? It sucks yeah, but I can see where he is coming from. Him not talking to her ever again? nah I dont agree with cold shouldering her for it, but that responsibility is going to fall on the parents if she doesnt have a job or even a plan for what to do now.
    Also my parents didnt even offer to pay for college for any of my siblings or I. They wanted us to go to college, but we were told financial help was not there. All 3 of us worked full time while going to college full time. Sister still paying off her degree she didnt use, bro paid off his, I took the community college route cause I went for art and literature and to me... no 60k debt is going to be reasonable enough for those degrees. Paid mine off the day I finished college.
    On a downside, the way my parents taught me about money and values n such, have actually hurt my ability to ask for help when I am in a rough spot. I never do and never will ask for help. Hell, no one that knows me knows if my situation is good or bad and never has. I just don't disclose anything to anyone. Just remember it's okay to be self-sufficient and ask for help.

  • @hazelox7971
    @hazelox7971 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For the second situation I agree with the father. It's not preferential treatment, one daughter's student loans cost 60k, the other's 20k. You're paying both of their debts off equally.
    If one is in debt and the other has extra money and the other is in debt then, by your standards, that would be preferential treatment

    Parents have feelings. Parents are not their childrens personal bank. Sometimes parents need time to adjust and recover from some of the heartbreak their children bring. Raising children is a difficult and thankless enough job as it is. Grown children shouldn't act so entitled and ungrateful and should maybe say "thank you" for everything parents do for them instead of demanding more and more. You'll regret the selfish behavior later in life.
