    the lower valve cover gasket is just as common to leak. I believe half the people that replaced this gasket still had an oil leak. People!! Always pin point the leak source!! UV die is a great way to identify a fresh leak.

      You mean the bearing bracket? You mean sealant, not gasket, yes?

    Ummmmm dont use a pick on the pcv hoses, needle nose pliers work great. Just use it to pinch where you use your fingers to squeeze. An angled set of pliers helps

    I want to replace gasket and vacuum pump (2 jobs that you’ve posted on the a4 b7) can I do it at the same time? Which one would you do first? I’m in desperate need of help with oil leaks and vacuum leaks. Thanks!

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can do both at same time... doing one at a time and then driving the car, might be best. So you know if there are any problems due to the repair. If no faults after the first job (let's say valve cover gasket) then do the other repair. If there are issues (runs rough, check engine light etc / whatever, then you know it has to do with the work you just did. If you replace both at the same time, you might not know which of the repair is causing an issue.

    Does the valve cover removal require the front timing cover to be off as well? Hoping to find the other half of my cam follower in there beneath the valve cover lol 😥
    Great channel btw, used your other videos to replace the oil filter housing assembly in the past.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      At minimum it needs to be unclipped so it can be moved / tilted to the front. Watch the timing belt removal video for the same engine... I'll link it here once I get home later today.

    Would you happen to know what's the valve cover bolts torque and sequence specifications when you tightening the bolts back on the engine? Do you have to thight the bolts 3 times and then on the last third time you torque the bolts using the torque wrench? I heard the torque is 7ft pounds others say is 8 and 10. Which one is it? I'm new at this and don't want to damage anything. Do you have to remove the pcv valve from the valve cover or not? I watched another TH-cam video in which the person removed the screws to break it loose from the valve cover but left the valve cover in the same spot of the engine and just removed the valve cover. Hope you can help me out.

      @@EXOVCDS Thank you for answering my questions. I have a 3/8 torque wrench with ft. Pounds and NM on the dial but it doesn't go that low. The lowest is 10 ft lbs. I have to buy another one that includes the NM dial 10. This job seems complicated. I want to change the Valve gasket and bolts aswell.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's the original plastic cover, it's a good idea to replace it as well... they can crack internally which can affect pcv performance (too much or too little), resulting in oil leaks or vacuum leaks.

    • @EXOVCDS

      I don't always use it... sometimes they get stuck pretty good, or in this case, not much room to grab them (like on other engines).

  • @HallaYourself
    @HallaYourself 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an 03 Jetta 1.8t. had oil on plugs and changed valve cover. used rtv and torqued to specs. the pcv hose connected to the bottom of the engine had a huge crack in it. I've since replace the larger of the two hoses but it didn't change a thing. I ordered a cam tensioner gasket since I read that could be it. I'm just wondering if I should proceed or troubleshoot something else. it has an aftermarket wastegate that was installed before I bought the car. thank you for the videos saved me lots of money, frustration and time :)

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If oil is still getting into the spark plug wells... make sure that the actual pcv check valves and breather valve are OK. excessive pressure in the crankcase will / can cause oil leaks into the spark plug wells and external oil leaks (cam / crank / rear main seal etc).

    what are those tubes you are removing at 7:03? need to know because i suspect my mechanic messing with my car and changing those tubes without my consent. thx in advance

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are ignition coils... not knowing why you took your car to a mechanic, I can't say that you got screwed over.

      @@EXOVCDS
      Well i dont know if you want to know my whole story, but if you are ok with id like to explain my situation in full so i could get your profesional opinion. But in short, regarding the ignition coils: day after i got my car back from the shop, after replacing control arms, i got multiple failures, pistone misfire, oily leak from rear driver side wheel, a low oil light,
      and then another mechanic told me that ignition coils are new, meaning they've been replaced. Pistone misfire was due to leaky hose i believe and did not require ignition pistone replacement.
      Thank you btw.

    • @KronStaro
      @KronStaro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EXOVCDS never mind, i see that engine misfire could be due to ignition coils, at least i was not told that when they made the repair

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kron Staro ignition coil failures are common when engines get older. Sometimes you have to trust mechanics... 95% don't try to take advantage of people.

    • @KronStaro
      @KronStaro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EXOVCDS what would you think? After leaving your car just for state inspection he tells me that i also need 4 new control arms and rotors changed, which i knew were troubled but not sure if enough to NOT pass inspection. After i agree to those repairs which cost around $1k in total, the next day 1) i get low oil light. 2) i get oily leak(probably break fluid) in the rear wheel, 3) my engine sputters and stalls when trying to start the car. All in all the repairs eventually cost me around $4k.
      my AUDI is over 10 years old but has 66k miles, and never had any of those problems the entire time, and how is that he was not able to notice any of those problems during the inspection and why is that they showed up exactly the day after i got my car back?
      I am planning to go back to see him and confront him about it, but i really need to know if my suspicions are warranted.
      I would PayPal you a consultation fee for your time if you'd be generous to give me your opinion on the situation after i explain thoroughly what happened, and what was fixed. I would really appreciate it and would help me calm my mind, whether it will back up what i say or prove otherwise.

    Looking to replace PCV valve & seal, PCV Hose, and the tube at 4:14. I have oil leak coming off rear of engine passenger side dripping on exhaust and hope the PCV is related and will resolve this leak...
