It's been 8 months since this video. I have been seriously working on Reeflux for about 5. I'm still getting better. After putting in the time, I have these thoughts about the weapon that you video helped me appreciate more: The fact that Squiffer is an all-or-nothing weapon prevents it from being good enough. Reeflux being able to roll better odds is a big reason I believe in it. Reeflux's full charge doesn't paint well while it fights. I've found that mixing in tap shots and partial charges helps mitigate that. It also allows you to be more mobile. I am getting better at shifting gears from slaying, support, and other roles. As I get better at partial charges, I think getting good at them is critical. They give you the ability to keep playing after missing a full charge (once again, unlike Squiffer). They also help you be more mobile, more fluid when shifting roles, and better at painting while fighting. I think getting good with partial charges relates to a lot of what this video analyzes, actually. I hope to see others out there working to push Reeflux.
Such a small buff has completely changed the weapon. Gone are the days of 2 pixels of error failing to kill. With the weapon no longer needing to jump for kills it has essentially doubled its effective dps and is actually a fun and good weapon now. The extra mobility is also helps a lot.
I love the reef-lux, I think it’s got a lot of depth that gives players creative ways to use it. It’s the first weapon I got 4 stars on and I’ve pretty much only been playing it for the past month or so (close to 5 stars now). Really hoping this gets a better kit sometime soon, as I don’t think it’s current kit is terrible, but could definitely be better.
This video pretty much perfectly encapsulates the situation that reeflux is in, and personally, I think it's the weapon with the biggest gap between the skill floor and the skill ceiling, because of a combination of a weird aiming technique and needing to be more precise than a charger to hit all 3 arrows. It can do so many things with the only drawback being its difficulty to aim, and sadly in this case also the kit. That being said, I think burst bomb (even though it's good on a lot of weapons) can combo really well with the shots where you miss one arrow. As for specials, giving it wavebreaker is honestly perfect, but perhaps rain could be nice for it too with that chip damage (which also means rain might actually see more use in comp!)
Upon seeing reeflux for the first time back when it got datamined from the splatfest demo, I knew it was gonna be fun. Picked it up very quickly because of the wild amount of paint (and missiles of course) and it was my first 3 star weapon, just from memeing in turf war with my friends. Eventually decided to actually learn to use the main weapon in fights and it's so much fun! The 3.1.0 spread buff makes it a LOT easier to land all the arrows and the extra run speed is small but appreciated. My gallery is clogged full of clips of me hitting really funny falloff shots, surprise attacks, and accidental kills with this thing... Hope we get new kits for both it and Squiffer in the next season so they both get played more! IMAGINE how wild burst bomb would be + inkjet for some good pressure, and Squiffer could get wall and kraken to make it suuuper aggressive and oppressive
ive been playing reef lux since launch and this is the first time i have seen someone else correctly identify what the silly yogurt bow does. thank you i have really been putting off making a video similar to this but... something more specific and detailed may be necessary to really push the people to pick it up

I love the Reeflux so much. All it needs to lose its bad reputation is a more aggressive kit so people can recognise its full potential. I'm out here hoping for a Torpedo/Zipcaster kit for much more aggro, but still maintaining support capabilities through torpedo.
i love the way you wrote this video! basing the crux of your argument on comparisons between squiffer and reef-lux was an awesome way of doing it, and that formula helped me keep up with the video very easily. might have to try something like that in the future when explaining a concept that's tough to understand lol. keep up the good work, def subbed!
i think another important thing to note is the worse shot velocity. it isnt a massive difference, but it is something you can sorta notice and it does mean that youll be hitting 90s and 45s more often on moving targets.
im constantly on the hunt for good slayer/support hybrids and honestly the current salmon run rotation has really sold me on the reef-lux!! i love how well it inks
That buff did wonders! It's more consistent, this weapon definitely takes skill and its so satisfying to get kills, the kit I was thinking of is ink mine and kraken or splatbomb and trizooka.
I picked up the Reef-Lux about 1 week after launch, and got a good feel around it - so I feel like if gets a gets a good kit (maybe a good bomb like burst bombs - as you mentioned - to push its offensive potential, with the added buffs), so I'm hopeful that this will be a notable weapon if the cards are played right with both the player's skill and Nintendo's kit/buff choices. This was a great video, I hope you make more!
unrelated but i love the music you use in your videos i almost audibly gasped when i heard "pick of the litter" lol you've got great taste! also great video, really informative! i never considered playing the reeflux but i think i'll try it now. i always just viewed it as a missle-spam weapon but it's playstyle seems interesting now that i actually know how it should be played lol. my previous main was the painbrush which is also a slayer support so i think i'm gonna enjoy it
Personally I think inkjet on the reeflux would go crazy. It would be able to use it in similar aggro/midline positions like the fresh squiffer from S2, while having even better combo potential with the main weapon than squiffer could ever dream of. The 50 dmg shot would combo with 2 arrows from the reef, and the 30 dmg would combo with two full charged shots. Combined with a sub weapon that does splash damage and a good comp to compliment the reeflux, this thing could be an absolute combo machine. Squiffer could still get its chance at a recall special in the form of zipcaster which I think would work even better for it than inkjet did.
Update: They gave it Splashwall/Reefslider it’s so joever 😭😭😭 But yeah I really love using this weapon! It’s current kit is great for being an off-sides menace that ppl really can’t ignore, and I think if Curling got a buff it’d genuinely be a really good kit for it. Unfortunately the second kit we were hopefull to lean further into being a slayer/support was responded with by far the worst kit in the game so
I feel like the most impactful difference between the reeflux and squiffer is the mobility, reeflux has insanely good strafe speed, faster speed out of a charge hold, great paint that allows you to paint your feet and be much more mobile.
I've been on the reef-lux grind for a month now and I gotta say.. i'm getting pretty good at it now! at first I wasn't sure but now I know what im doin'!
Been doing the same myself! My team and I are even trying to practice some comps with Reef on it. It's always funny when the other team is blindsighted by it.
Reeflux is already a top tier in the secret meta team comp which consists or reef, big swig, tentabrella and any aggro weapon (maybe one that can turf at least a bit) but yeah I hope this weapon gets good buffs and a new better kit to finally get a chance to shine without the missile spam pre balance patch.
My main weapon is the Reef-lux 450, but I lost all my freshness due to so many losses. 5 losses in a row within the last couple days. But besides that, I just love getting that one shot splat, especially in close fights or just being being at the wrong spot with me getting that one shot splat.
Great video! I'm a reef-lux main and i feel its necessary to clarify one thing and that is its range. While it looks like it has the same range as Squiffer, this is only a half truth. The only way you can have such range is with fall off shots, preferably with Vertical shots, otherwise your offensive range is slightly shorter than Squiffer. To me this feels like its primary issue now and all i can hope is for the tiniest range buff for this weapon. So far, i don't have many issues with the kit, as Curling is strong after given enough practice and missiles are missiles, but i do think it can be better. I've been rooting for something like Torp+Booya but id be satisfied as well with Wave Breaker as a special.
As a squiffer and reeflux enjoyer, I think there are two other points worth mentioning in reeflux's favor. 1. The superior strafe speed means the way it moves during battles IS different. A little more mini-splatling like. 2. It's tap shots at super close ranges have the potential to deal 90 to 135 if shot at stage 0 and stage 1 respectively, meaning it is much more likely to stay in and fight if ambushed at short ranges. It's not the best option, but its still MUCH faster than what squiffer can do with tap shot. It also opens short range combat as an option against weapons that struggle at short range. Not an option you take a lot, but sometimes you run headfirst into a charge and you can just tap shot them to death.
Luv hearong your thoughts on the flux one of my friends really likes it,, I personally think a cool kit for it would be angleshooter/trizooka for a much more aggressive kit to go in while it's paint lets it always have abtrizooka to get outta sticky situatuins, get far off opponents and to jsut add to it's weird angles, the angelshooter is there for a semi relaible damage combo and decent location
Honestly I can live with curling bomb on Reef-Flux since it allows me to get away from threats. I don't think the Reef can paint under my feet and I need to repeatedly tap shot but with curling bomb I just toss it and swim away Though yeah, I do want an aggressive kit for Reef-Flux
Hi, it's 6 months later and it still gets memed on, but is in a much healthier place in the meta. I've been working on Tri-Stringer not Reef, but the ability to arc shots is both a blessing and a curse. So satisfying when it does work out though. In general, reef mostly wants to use horizontal spread, except in specific situations like an enemy dropping down off a platform. I like the squiffer comparison, though your playstyle analysis also makes it sound similar to a shot or an n-zap, in that it is good for both ink and kills. The stringer class as a whole seems to be mainly viable for one-tricks, IMHO, which is what I'm currently planning to do, to be fair. Good luck to anyone playing with the stringers!
I totally agree with almost everything stated in this video, but as a player who has mained the REEFLUX-450 since the very beginning, there are a few things I may have to disagree on. Firstly, mid-air shots are totally possible- I perform them in every battle (Certain abilities will help improve the accuracy and time rate of the shots, if that is the problem being faced, of course. On the other hand, if you are speaking of how the the charging in mid-air is relatively slow, then that's totally true- I think equipping the Run Speed Up ability somehow made my charge quicker... It sounds kind of dumb now that I'm saying it, but that's just my potentially incorrect recollection of it.🤣 But, based on my experience, I was able to charge while declining from a high surface, so I recommend trying it out again?). Secondly, the curling bombs are not a bad sub weapon.. it is an absolutely perfect addition to the REEFLUX-450. Here's my analysis of the REEFLUX-450 (!!WARNING: THIS MAY COME ACROSS AS AN ANGRY PERCEPTION OF SPLATOON PLAYERS, BUT I DO NOT MEAN ANY HARM FROM IT. I APOLOGIZE IF IT'S OFFENSIVE, IT IS PURELY JUST MY INNER THOUGHTS BEING SPEWED OUT.!!) The REEFLUX-450 is a limitless weapon which you can achieve almost the, what-you-thought, impossible. As mentioned in this video, your creativity can soar high in the sky with how you want to show your personal touch in defeating opposing enemies. It takes a ton of intuition on your surroundings, and requires you to have a plan B if plan A doesn't work (if plan B isn't efficient enough, you're gonna fail 🥲). It's undoubtedly the best weapon ever, but let's not get my opinions in the way of the facts. 😅 The curling bombs, however, are a (please don't mind the typical clichés that seem to have no significance because of how overused these words are LOL) underrated, underappreciated.. and so much more. What many people don't know, is how capably strong and tricky its mechanic is... I know that from basic psychology, that if people aren't introduced to certain things, they will probably just ignore it and find it "unimportant" (of course, because they don't know of it yet- although that did sound better in my head, it probably made zero sense on here)- this also goes for the curling bomb. Whenever I play in a public server, you see, I throw curling bombs a lot more than you'd think. Let's just say I had a standard splat bomb, if I were to throw it, what would you do? By default, you'd squid surge out of the way before you explode, right? Well, because of the curling bomb's long-serving lack of acknowledgement in battles, no one thinks to move away, 'cause they just think it's going to either bounce off the wall behind them, or keep strolling forwards. Their mistake, though, because this is where the master guile of the curling bombs come in. Most people of Splatoon don't know how to use the basic mechanics of the curling bomb, let's just face it. They throw it on impulse, leaving them with little-to-no chance of someone miraculously standing in the exact spot where the curling bomb finally fulminates. Because of this, players automatically assume that, let's just say, if I were to throw a curling bomb towards them, it wouldn't deal any damage for them. Underprepared, when I throw the curling bomb at 'em, they can explode just by being in close proximity of the detonation. But, how, though? Though it takes quick-witted minds, a ton of practice (that seems as though it's getting you nowhere, but don't worry, it's helping ya fall out of your habitual strategies), and cunning to con your way for further personal advantage on the battle grounds, all you really have to do just to survive with the curling bomb is to simply hold down the trigger to release the bomb when ready. Holding down the trigger will lengthen the range of the bomb to your liking, rather than carefreely tossing the undirected bomb. Just like for the REEFLUX-450 itself, the curling bomb takes a ton intuition and deception (in fact, this even goes for using the Rainmaker!) to fully reach a positive conclusion. Just by knowing the mechanics of the curling bomb will strengthen your Splatoon 3 gameplay, the possibilities of succession in splatting people, and defy the bad rap it's been given. So, since this is the case, what makes the curling bomb so unviable for the REEFLUX-450? In short, it actually makes the two an even stronger pair, perfect for deceiving enemies strategically, and also forces the opposing player to think deeply about their actions, which slows them down. For whoever's reading this rather long rant of my pent-up anger and annoyance of people's undeniable ignorance regarding the REEFLUX-450 and its following subs and creative opportunities it withholds, I strongly suggest looking into the secret possibilities of each weapon in Splatoon 3- perhaps, there's a loophole waiting to be discovered by you, and that will prove your skills worthy of acknowledgement. In resolution, by carefully observing the REEFLUX-450's capabilities, I conclude that Nintendo's choice of the sub and special goes together like two peas in a pod, and should never be broken. In actuality, the mystery behind the REEFLUX-450 and the curling bomb's unheard, wide-ranged, and advantageous abilities only enhances the beauty of the illusive kit. ❤🔥🤌 (On a quick side-note: I personally believe the REEFLUX-450 is way better than a charger, or any weapon for that matter. 😆 Back before Splatoon 3 came out, I always used the Hero Charger.. but I was never at a distance from the rest of the players, like how the charger is supposed to be used. I was always in people's faces, quickly charging and firing when people were splatting at me. I was the only one doing that then, but nowadays, I see people in Splatoon 3 do it once in a while. To be honest, ever since I first started playing Splatoon 2 online, I always craved a weapon that could resemble a charger, but is a much lighter weapon and which had the ability to be used out in the open. I often joke around that Nintendo made the weapon for me, which clearly isn't true, but hey, I can dream. 🤣) P.S. I must confess something that may sound ridiculously rude, and I deeply apologize if it's hurtful... No offense to anyone who plays the REEFLUX-450 in this style (it's not really much of a style, it rather seems like something someone would do with the REEFFLUX-450 if they didn't know how to use it), but if someone uses the REEFLUX-450 to splat somebody by clicking the shoot button repeatedly... Then that's just cheap, and it strips the REEFLUX-450's whole definition and glory. Plus, how is it fun to spam the button? Is that satisfying? Besides, is that even a style? I mean, really, has anyone heard of a real-life bow and arrow being shot out repetitiously like it's a Nerf machine gun? It's just demoting the weapon all together. Here's the jist of a REEFLUX-450; you charge and fire at someone like how a charger is used, and when you're trying to ink up turf, you spam like it's a slosher or something. Trust me, when I first discovered the REEFLUX-450, I was trying to use it like how I use it now, but because of the fear of someone splatting me, I spammed the person as my way of trying to beat them during the process of them trying to splat me. But, regretfully, I wish I knew better- fear is what causes you to stumble in your tracks ("your" is generalized), and practice is what makes us grow in our passion. While us REEFLUX-450 mains are afraid of getting splatted without being able to accomplish splatting them back, we can't give into our fear by spamming. Nuh-uh, we try to aim at 'em, even if we result in failing-- Or worse, get zero splats at the end of the battle. Sure, it's embarrassing, but what's more embarrassing is giving into the fear that's keeping us from swimming forward in our ink. Phew, I've been writing this for the past few hours instead of doing homework (I almost missed dinner 🙃), and now I finally feel at ease from my enormous rant. 🤣 So sorry if this was offensive, I tried my best to keep my thoughts to sound as respectful as possible. Reef lux also doesn't have a laser alarming everyone of its presence. Also i swear every single one of my mains would love wavebreaker, for example tristringer, explosher, bamboozler, rapid blaster... I guess an ink tank refill, comboes and location is a good combination.
ok now for an actual comment, Both Reef-lux and Squiffer deserve a tiny bit more buffs to help with combat. Ideally the reef-lux gets the fast midair charge mechanic and the squiffer gets slight buffs to the radius of its shots
I feel like reeflux would be a great chump weapon. They'd help it out in fight in case the reef misses, they can help the other frontliner(s), flush out enemies and be a distraction to come in from a different angle (if maps allowed for it)
During the anniversary fest I picked up the reeflux so I could try a new weapon out, and it was really fun to use!! I mostly use chargers so it was a nice change of pace!! it revived my squiffer knowledge from splatoon 2 lol. Reef is super fun to use in ranked (any mode) :3
i think kraken would be an intresting pick for reeflux, 45 damage hits combo with the 60 damage jump, and you can use it for fighting when shorter range shooters get in your range
A great idea actually. It wouldn't let it be as offensive in the position it wants to be in, but the ability to win fights when someone does get in on it could easily make up for it.

primarily used bamboozler and L3 during both splatoon 1 and 2 so as you can guess reef-lux is basically my dream weapon. It's by far my most used weapon in this game so I think I have a pretty good grasp on it. Simply put: It's HARD, like REALLY HARD. Don't let this man fool you, it's not a squiffer at all... using the squiffer after using the reef lux is like using a fucking clash blaster after an eliter. Okay maybe not that much but you get the point, killing with squiffer is way easier. That being said, the reef-lux 100% has the potential to be one of the best main weapons in the game for all the reasons mentioned in this video. The buff has helped a lot with horizontal shots at a distance and now running some run speed up (I like 2-4 subs) makes you much harder to hit in combat, but it is still really damn hard to use. The meta (while a bit locked) is in a relatively balanced state where I can see a div 3 or higher player pick this up on the side and if someone like that can master it it's potential will start to be shown in spades across the community. I don't think this is as good a main weapon as the ballpoint or squeezer nor do I think its kit is as good as splash or machine but it is one of the best support weapons in the game and can play slayer, support, and even skirmisher depending on the circumstance. I don't necessarilly want this weapon to be meta but I definitely hope good players can make this weapon appear as respectable and not (as you call it) "flyfish simulator."
What I don't get is why reef lux has the ability to store a charge for a bit but has nearly zero charge time, yet the tri stringer takes way longer to charge and you can't hold a charge
If I had control over the Reeflux I'd rework it to be more consistent and in line with the other Stringer, This would be done by giving each arrow a tiny burst bomb on full charge about the size of the area it currently paints, Explosions could deal 20 damage each which is really great for combos while greatly increassing object damage. However a more aggressive kit would do the weapon wonders, Fizzy Bomb + Tacticooler plays into its high paint while enabling it through mobility.
To be honest, I'm terrified of Reef getting burst bomb. It makes the weapon not need to be as accurate at the cost of some ink. 1 arrow combos with direct, 2 arrows combos with even the edge of it's hitbox. I'd love to use it, I'd hat fighting it.
For me, I mostly just play Turf War, and it makes sense considering this video. My playstyle is more defensive, so i only average 2 or 3 kills a game. If it got a better special like Kraken, it would be amazing!
Gootuber is a odd one. I think it needs to be some where between splat charger and the squiffer. Better range than squiffer but less speed, Better speed than splat, but less range. I think something that could help is to let it charge a portion of its shot while charge holding. It gets increase mobility, but the time between shots stays the same. It can move faster while charging but it still requires commitment with each shot.
Based af. I think Reeflux would work great with something that benefits from a lot of supportive paint such as a sharking Krak-On Roller, which is my controversial main of choice.
Your right, after the buff I started losing to the Reeflux more even playing Squiffer (my main), with a better sub and not so bad special it could probably out perform Squiffer cuz its a painting and special farming beast.
I wonder how viable reeflux will be in the meta compared to other midlines if it did get a good kit. Ballpoint essentially is better reeflux (paints in short rage fire quickly while denies more area for a longer time, and currently has a good), and machine outputs consistant damage at range (larger hit boxes). Even splash has more use than a reeflux simply because it actually has the ability to poke/challange midlines safely. This means reeflux would get outclassed by most top tier weapons due to its mediocre strengths. In short, reeflux will beome the next L-3 or rapid
Tbh i think they gotta be careful about buffing reef-lux, its kinda not that hard to get a one shot pretty often, you dont even have to jump once you are at full charge, long range short range whatever the shots are fairly focused, i dont think its really that difficult to aim at full charge which doesnt take too long to reach, yeah you have a chance because they are separate projectiles but theyre close enough together, this kinda goes for tri stringer too actually it just takes a bit long to charge and you cant hold it in ink at all, but at full charge a lot of shots are actually perfectly fine to get a one shot without jumping.
Occasionally I’ll run into a good reef lux player who’s racking up kills with the main weapon and think to myself I could do that. Then I actually try and I’m absolutely useless outside of painting and missles 🤦♂️

now most people dont know reef can actually hold the charge in squid form and with both tri and reef being the only stringers, reef is more mid and sometimes back while tri is back and somewhat mid and while reef having short range like a shooter while tri is a sniper and tri buff mini bombs make it easier to have easier kills making it scary while reef have no bombs but better dmg but has disadvantages from playing mid since its way too easy to die and cant play like a sniper and yet both strings are good practice i would go both and to give both stringers a shot cuz i played tri a lot and got a whole ton of kills and reef making up for the slayer as is to go in shark more with charge mode
Reeflux is my fest weapon for the zeldafest and I'm having way more fun than I thought with it even with my "no missile" practice rule. The devs may be be bad at making kits but it's not terrible (not that that means much from a undercover main)
Been a huge fan after I played trinstringer and got bored of it. Reef has some great versatility in most modes but honestly put me in a bad habit of never using secondary because it was pointless.
I've been a fan of the Reef since the game began, and not for the missiles. I love the flexability of the weapon. Sadly, I'm not NEARLY as proficient with it in competative play as you are. I tend to stick to salmon run most of the time (where Reef is also surprisingly good for those that know how to play the weapon.)
Me who plays Squiffer and Reef-Lux (and Tristringer and chargers): Well idk about top tier but I like the main weapon 👀Please give us a new kit soon. Main weapon is too fun to have boring tenta-missiles and whatever curling bombs...

ive been playing reef lux since launch and this is the first time i have seen someone else correctly identify what the silly yogurt bow does. thank you i have really been putting off making a video similar to this but... something more specific and detailed may be necessary to really push the people to pick it up

I love the Reeflux so much. All it needs to lose its bad reputation is a more aggressive kit so people can recognise its full potential. I'm out here hoping for a Torpedo/Zipcaster kit for much more aggro, but still maintaining support capabilities through torpedo.
They in fact did not give it torpedo zipcaster. They instead gave it one of the worst kits in the entire game. My condolences to all the reeflux mains

i think another important thing to note is the worse shot velocity. it isnt a massive difference, but it is something you can sorta notice and it does mean that youll be hitting 90s and 45s more often on moving targets.

That buff did wonders! It's more consistent, this weapon definitely takes skill and its so satisfying to get kills, the kit I was thinking of is ink mine and kraken or splatbomb and trizooka.
I picked up the Reef-Lux about 1 week after launch, and got a good feel around it - so I feel like if gets a gets a good kit (maybe a good bomb like burst bombs - as you mentioned - to push its offensive potential, with the added buffs), so I'm hopeful that this will be a notable weapon if the cards are played right with both the player's skill and Nintendo's kit/buff choices. This was a great video, I hope you make more!

unrelated but i love the music you use in your videos i almost audibly gasped when i heard "pick of the litter" lol you've got great taste! also great video, really informative! i never considered playing the reeflux but i think i'll try it now. i always just viewed it as a missle-spam weapon but it's playstyle seems interesting now that i actually know how it should be played lol. my previous main was the painbrush which is also a slayer support so i think i'm gonna enjoy it
Personally I think inkjet on the reeflux would go crazy. It would be able to use it in similar aggro/midline positions like the fresh squiffer from S2, while having even better combo potential with the main weapon than squiffer could ever dream of.
The 50 dmg shot would combo with 2 arrows from the reef, and the 30 dmg would combo with two full charged shots. Combined with a sub weapon that does splash damage and a good comp to compliment the reeflux, this thing could be an absolute combo machine.
Squiffer could still get its chance at a recall special in the form of zipcaster which I think would work even better for it than inkjet did.
Update: They gave it Splashwall/Reefslider it’s so joever 😭😭😭
But yeah I really love using this weapon! It’s current kit is great for being an off-sides menace that ppl really can’t ignore, and I think if Curling got a buff it’d genuinely be a really good kit for it. I feel like the most impactful difference between the reeflux and squiffer is the mobility, reeflux has insanely good strafe speed, faster speed out of a charge hold, great paint that allows you to paint your feet and be much more mobile.
I've been on the reef-lux grind for a month now and I gotta say.. i'm getting pretty good at it now! at first I wasn't sure but now I know what im doin'!

Reeflux is already a top tier in the secret meta team comp which consists or reef, big swig, tentabrella and any aggro weapon (maybe one that can turf at least a bit) but yeah I hope this weapon gets good buffs and a new better kit to finally get a chance to shine without the missile spam pre balance patch.

My main weapon is the Reef-lux 450, but I lost all my freshness due to so many losses. 5 losses in a row within the last couple days. But besides that, I just love getting that one shot splat, especially in close fights or just being being at the wrong spot with me getting that one shot splat.

Great video! I'm a reef-lux main and i feel its necessary to clarify one thing and that is its range. While it looks like it has the same range as Squiffer, this is only a half truth. The only way you can have such range is with fall off shots, preferably with Vertical shots, otherwise your offensive range is slightly shorter than Squiffer. To me this feels like its primary issue now and all i can hope is for the tiniest range buff for this weapon.
So far, i don't have many issues with the kit, as Curling is strong after given enough practice and missiles are missiles, but i do think it can be better. I've been rooting for something like Torp+Booya but id be satisfied as well with Wave Breaker as a special.
As a squiffer and reeflux enjoyer, I think there are two other points worth mentioning in reeflux's favor.
1. The superior strafe speed means the way it moves during battles IS different. A little more mini-splatling like.
2. It's tap shots at super close ranges have the potential to deal 90 to 135 if shot at stage 0 and stage 1 respectively, meaning it is much more likely to stay in and fight if ambushed at short ranges. It's not the best option, but its still MUCH faster than what squiffer can do with tap shot. It also opens short range combat as an option against weapons that struggle at short range. Not an option you take a lot, but sometimes you run headfirst into a charge and you can just tap shot them to death.

Honestly I can live with curling bomb on Reef-Flux since it allows me to get away from threats. I don't think the Reef can paint under my feet and I need to repeatedly tap shot but with curling bomb I just toss it and swim away

Hi, it's 6 months later and it still gets memed on, but is in a much healthier place in the meta. I've been working on Tri-Stringer not Reef, but the ability to arc shots is both a blessing and a curse. So satisfying when it does work out though.
In general, reef mostly wants to use horizontal spread, except in specific situations like an enemy dropping down off a platform.
I like the squiffer comparison, though your playstyle analysis also makes it sound similar to a shot or an n-zap, in that it is good for both ink and kills.
The stringer class as a whole seems to be mainly viable for one-tricks, IMHO, which is what I'm currently planning to do, to be fair.

I totally agree with almost everything stated in this video, but as a player who has mained the REEFLUX-450 since the very beginning, there are a few things I may have to disagree on. Firstly, mid-air shots are totally possible- I perform them in every battle (Certain abilities will help improve the accuracy and time rate of the shots, if that is the problem being faced, of course. On the other hand, if you are speaking of how the the charging in mid-air is relatively slow, then that's totally true- I think equipping the Run Speed Up ability somehow made my charge quicker... It sounds kind of dumb now that I'm saying it, but that's just my potentially incorrect recollection of it.🤣 But, based on my experience, I was able to charge while declining from a high surface, so I recommend trying it out again?). Secondly, the curling bombs are not a bad sub weapon.. it is an absolutely perfect addition to the REEFLUX-450.
Here's my analysis of the REEFLUX-450 (!!WARNING: THIS MAY COME ACROSS AS AN ANGRY PERCEPTION OF SPLATOON PLAYERS, BUT I DO NOT MEAN ANY HARM FROM IT. I APOLOGIZE IF IT'S OFFENSIVE, IT IS PURELY JUST MY INNER THOUGHTS BEING SPEWED OUT.!!)
The REEFLUX-450 is a limitless weapon which you can achieve almost the, what-you-thought, impossible. As mentioned in this video, your creativity can soar high in the sky with how you want to show your personal touch in defeating opposing enemies. It takes a ton of intuition on your surroundings, and requires you to have a plan B if plan A doesn't work (if plan B isn't efficient enough, you're gonna fail 🥲). It's undoubtedly the best weapon ever, but let's not get my opinions in the way of the facts. 😅 The curling bombs, however, are a (please don't mind the typical clichés that seem to have no significance because of how overused these words are LOL) underrated, underappreciated.. and so much more. What many people don't know, is how capably strong and tricky its mechanic is... I know that from basic psychology, that if people aren't introduced to certain things, they will probably just ignore it and find it "unimportant" (of course, because they don't know of it yet- although that did sound better in my head, it probably made zero sense on here)- this also goes for the curling bomb. Whenever I play in a public server, you see, I throw curling bombs a lot more than you'd think. Let's just say I had a standard splat bomb, if I were to throw it, what would you do? By default, you'd squid surge out of the way before you explode, right? Well, because of the curling bomb's long-serving lack of acknowledgement in battles, no one thinks to move away, 'cause they just think it's going to either bounce off the wall behind them, or keep strolling forwards. Their mistake, though, because this is where the master guile of the curling bombs come in. Most people of Splatoon don't know how to use the basic mechanics of the curling bomb, let's just face it. They throw it on impulse, leaving them with little-to-no chance of someone miraculously standing in the exact spot where the curling bomb finally fulminates. Because of this, players automatically assume that, let's just say, if I were to throw a curling bomb towards them, it wouldn't deal any damage for them. Underprepared, when I throw the curling bomb at 'em, they can explode just by being in close proximity of the detonation. But, how, though? Though it takes quick-witted minds, a ton of practice (that seems as though it's getting you nowhere, but don't worry, it's helping ya fall out of your habitual strategies), and cunning to con your way for further personal advantage on the battle grounds, all you really have to do just to survive with the curling bomb is to simply hold down the trigger to release the bomb when ready. Holding down the trigger will lengthen the range of the bomb to your liking, rather than carefreely tossing the undirected bomb. Just like for the REEFLUX-450 itself, the curling bomb takes a ton intuition and deception (in fact, this even goes for using the Rainmaker!) to fully reach a positive conclusion. Just by knowing the mechanics of the curling bomb will strengthen your Splatoon 3 gameplay, the possibilities of succession in splatting people, and defy the bad rap it's been given.
So, since this is the case, what makes the curling bomb so unviable for the REEFLUX-450? In short, it actually makes the two an even stronger pair, perfect for deceiving enemies strategically, and also forces the opposing player to think deeply about their actions, which slows them down. For whoever's reading this rather long rant of my pent-up anger and annoyance of people's undeniable ignorance regarding the REEFLUX-450 and its following subs and creative opportunities it withholds, I strongly suggest looking into the secret possibilities of each weapon in Splatoon 3- perhaps, there's a loophole waiting to be discovered by you, and that will prove your skills worthy of acknowledgement. In resolution, by carefully observing the REEFLUX-450's capabilities, I conclude that Nintendo's choice of the sub and special goes together like two peas in a pod, and should never be broken. In actuality, the mystery behind the REEFLUX-450 and the curling bomb's unheard, wide-ranged, and advantageous abilities only enhances the beauty of the illusive kit. ❤🔥🤌
(On a quick side-note: I personally believe the REEFLUX-450 is way better than a charger, or any weapon for that matter. 😆 Back before Splatoon 3 came out, I always used the Hero Charger.. but I was never at a distance from the rest of the players, like how the charger is supposed to be used. I was always in people's faces, quickly charging and firing when people were splatting at me. I was the only one doing that then, but nowadays, I see people in Splatoon 3 do it once in a while. To be honest, ever since I first started playing Splatoon 2 online, I always craved a weapon that could resemble a charger, but is a much lighter weapon and which had the ability to be used out in the open. I often joke around that Nintendo made the weapon for me, which clearly isn't true, but hey, I can dream. 🤣)
P.S. I must confess something that may sound ridiculously rude, and I deeply apologize if it's hurtful... No offense to anyone who plays the REEFLUX-450 in this style (it's not really much of a style, it rather seems like something someone would do with the REEFFLUX-450 if they didn't know how to use it), but if someone uses the REEFLUX-450 to splat somebody by clicking the shoot button repeatedly... Then that's just cheap, and it strips the REEFLUX-450's whole definition and glory. Plus, how is it fun to spam the button? Is that satisfying? Besides, is that even a style? I mean, really, has anyone heard of a real-life bow and arrow being shot out repetitiously like it's a Nerf machine gun? It's just demoting the weapon all together. Here's the jist of a REEFLUX-450; you charge and fire at someone like how a charger is used, and when you're trying to ink up turf, you spam like it's a slosher or something. Trust me, when I first discovered the REEFLUX-450, I was trying to use it like how I use it now, but because of the fear of someone splatting me, I spammed the person as my way of trying to beat them during the process of them trying to splat me. But, regretfully, I wish I knew better- fear is what causes you to stumble in your tracks ("your" is generalized), and practice is what makes us grow in our passion. While us REEFLUX-450 mains are afraid of getting splatted without being able to accomplish splatting them back, we can't give into our fear by spamming. Nuh-uh, we try to aim at 'em, even if we result in failing-- Or worse, get zero splats at the end of the battle. Sure, it's embarrassing, but what's more embarrassing is giving into the fear that's keeping us from swimming forward in our ink.

Reef lux also doesn't have a laser alarming everyone of its presence. Also i swear every single one of my mains would love wavebreaker, for example tristringer, explosher, bamboozler, rapid blaster... I guess an ink tank refill, comboes and location is a good combination.

Both Reef-lux and Squiffer deserve a tiny bit more buffs to help with combat. Ideally the reef-lux gets the fast midair charge mechanic and the squiffer gets slight buffs to the radius of its shots
I feel like reeflux would be a great chump weapon. They'd help it out in fight in case the reef misses, they can help the other frontliner(s), flush out enemies and be a distraction to come in from a different angle (if maps allowed for it)
During the anniversary fest I picked up the reeflux so I could try a new weapon out, and it was really fun to use!! I mostly use chargers so it was a nice change of pace!! it revived my squiffer knowledge from splatoon 2 lol.

i think kraken would be an intresting pick for reeflux, 45 damage hits combo with the 60 damage jump, and you can use it for fighting when shorter range shooters get in your range
A great idea actually. It wouldn't let it be as offensive in the position it wants to be in, but the ability to win fights when someone does get in on it could easily make up for it.

Recently they gave reflux the ability to charge quicker in the air
primarily used bamboozler and L3 during both splatoon 1 and 2 so as you can guess reef-lux is basically my dream weapon. It's by far my most used weapon in this game so I think I have a pretty good grasp on it. Simply put: It's HARD, like REALLY HARD. Don't let this man fool you, it's not a squiffer at all... using the squiffer after using the reef lux is like using a fucking clash blaster after an eliter. Okay maybe not that much but you get the point, killing with squiffer is way easier.
That being said, the reef-lux 100% has the potential to be one of the best main weapons in the game for all the reasons mentioned in this video. The buff has helped a lot with horizontal shots at a distance and now running some run speed up (I like 2-4 subs) makes you much harder to hit in combat, but it is still really damn hard to use. The meta (while a bit locked) is in a relatively balanced state where I can see a div 3 or higher player pick this up on the side and if someone like that can master it it's potential will start to be shown in spades across the community. I don't think this is as good a main weapon as the ballpoint or squeezer nor do I think its kit is as good as splash or machine but it is one of the best support weapons in the game and can play slayer, support, and even skirmisher depending on the circumstance. I don't necessarilly want this weapon to be meta but I definitely hope good players can make this weapon appear as respectable and not (as you call it) "flyfish simulator."
Burst could work if you direct hit it it can one hit with full charge 1 arrow and burst could also help with more mobility

What I don't get is why reef lux has the ability to store a charge for a bit but has nearly zero charge time, yet the tri stringer takes way longer to charge and you can't hold a charge
Finally, someone who agrees that missiles isn't the only thing Reef-Lux can be used for.
If I had control over the Reeflux I'd rework it to be more consistent and in line with the other Stringer, This would be done by giving each arrow a tiny burst bomb on full charge about the size of the area it currently paints, Explosions could deal 20 damage each which is really great for combos while greatly increassing object damage.
However a more aggressive kit would do the weapon wonders, Fizzy Bomb + Tacticooler plays into its high paint while enabling it through mobility.
In my opinion, reflux is a pretty decent weapon, but it definitely need new kit to utilize it's possible-one-shot and good painting

To be honest, I'm terrified of Reef getting burst bomb. It makes the weapon not need to be as accurate at the cost of some ink. 1 arrow combos with direct, 2 arrows combos with even the edge of it's hitbox. I'd love to use it, I'd hat fighting it.
For me, I mostly just play Turf War, and it makes sense considering this video. My playstyle is more defensive, so i only average 2 or 3 kills a game. If it got a better special like Kraken, it would be amazing!

Gootuber is a odd one. I think it needs to be some where between splat charger and the squiffer. Better range than squiffer but less speed, Better speed than splat, but less range. I think something that could help is to let it charge a portion of its shot while charge holding. It gets increase mobility, but the time between shots stays the same. It can move faster while charging but it still requires commitment with each shot.

I wonder how viable reeflux will be in the meta compared to other midlines if it did get a good kit. Ballpoint essentially is better reeflux (paints in short rage fire quickly while denies more area for a longer time, and currently has a good), and machine outputs consistant damage at range (larger hit boxes). Even splash has more use than a reeflux simply because it actually has the ability to poke/challange midlines safely. This means reeflux would get outclassed by most top tier weapons due to its mediocre strengths. In short, reeflux will beome the next L-3 or rapid

Tbh i think they gotta be careful about buffing reef-lux, its kinda not that hard to get a one shot pretty often, you dont even have to jump once you are at full charge, long range short range whatever the shots are fairly focused, i dont think its really that difficult to aim at full charge which doesnt take too long to reach, yeah you have a chance because they are separate projectiles but theyre close enough together, this kinda goes for tri stringer too actually it just takes a bit long to charge and you cant hold it in ink at all, but at full charge a lot of shots are actually perfectly fine to get a one shot without jumping.
I personally want it's next kit to be Burst Bomb and kraken. It would be a beast with that kit, no pun intended lol

now most people dont know reef can actually hold the charge in squid form and with both tri and reef being the only stringers, reef is more mid and sometimes back while tri is back and somewhat mid and while reef having short range like a shooter while tri is a sniper and tri buff mini bombs make it easier to have easier kills making it scary while reef have no bombs but better dmg but has disadvantages from playing mid since its way too easy to die and cant play like a sniper and yet both strings are good practice i would go both and to give both stringers a shot cuz i played tri a lot and got a whole ton of kills and reef making up for the slayer as is to go in shark more with charge mode
Reeflux is my fest weapon for the zeldafest and I'm having way more fun than I thought with it even with my "no missile" practice rule. The devs may be be bad at making kits but it's not terrible (not that that means much from a undercover main)

Been a huge fan after I played trinstringer and got bored of it. Reef has some great versatility in most modes but honestly put me in a bad habit of never using secondary because it was pointless.

I've been a fan of the Reef since the game began, and not for the missiles. I love the flexability of the weapon. Sadly, I'm not NEARLY as proficient with it in competative play as you are. I tend to stick to salmon run most of the time (where Reef is also surprisingly good for those that know how to play the weapon.)
