i think that aside from the tactical value of qr, its just a fun playstyle. i main a qr stamper so when i dont have to worry about dying as much i can go in and try for trades without much of a tradeoff. super fun when you end up with a triple or quad off of skirmishing
QR is also very valuable in that getting many splats in one life still lets you activate it in further lives basically making it mathematically good, Respawn Punisher on the other hand…….
Hmm those are some good points. I have always scoffed at quick respawn because I usually play more backliner weapons like heavy and hydra. I was always thinking it was silly for people to run it because you shouldn't plan on dying. However, that's from the perspective of a backing anchor who's job it is to stay alive and keep your team on the board. I have hardly any experience in competitive so this really helped me understand the value of QR. Good vid thanks!
1 thing you didn't mention is that newer players might write off QR because they were familiar with how it worked in S1 and think they just completely gutted it in 2 like they did with a lot of S1 top tier weapons which, to be fair, in S2 that was kinda the case since the average death count in a competitive match is way lower than the other 2 games. In S3 however, the game is much more aggressive while the map design kinda just forces you to brute force through choke points with a bunch of specials and/or QR strats.
As someone who almost exclusively plays hyper-aggressive weapons, this video pleases me immensely. Especially since it was made by two of my favorite Splatoon content creators.
Woah i never thought about quick respawn like that!! I’m an inkbrush main and i play quick respawn a lot bc i DIE a lot, akin to my play style. Never thought about primarily getting assists and helping my teammates get in and stay alive by being a decoy. I’m totally gunna try this out!
being the decoy is fun too. there's this thrill of "will i get out of this alive?" and while often the answer is 'no', with how often you're going down by simply being a nuisance, your teams will from time to time pick up on the fact "waaaait a minute these guns ain't being pointed at me" and begin using those moments where you are annoying the shit out of them to save your ass long enough for the whole team to benefit off you being the decoy again without a trip back to spawn? feels great every time. it's like the equivalent of a dodge tank but in splatoon.
Lmaooooo I do that a lot but my teammates NEVER take advantage of it lfkfjfjdksjd Plus doing this does give me those weird instances where I "crush" an opponent with the inkbrush lmao
I never actually considered the benefits of pushing forward to protect my teammates by distracting the enemy team; I'm gonna try doing that more often from now on. And congrats on 20k!! I've been a proud tetra main ever since your ultimate tetra guide back in sploon 2
I often play Skirmishers like these because I feel it suits me best, and after learning how good QR was I started running way more of it then before to help my team more. It's gotten to the point that playing without QR just feels slow. Thanks for explaining this in greater detail for newer players, and congrats on that 20K!
Just wanna say that you have been the number one inspiration for keeping me into playing wiper. I never got wiper at first and it was an on and off relationship with the weapon itself, but seeing your videos and how you play wiper taught me a lot about even the game itself and now it's basically my new main in this game. Much love to you for that and I can't wait what you have in store in the coming year.
I like to see QR a weapons as a mini special weapon: the role of a QR weapon is to go in and die in a way that forces a reaction from the opposing team which allow your remaining teammates to win a fight. Similarly, a special weapon forces the opposing team to react to it, giving your team an opening they can use. Most specials require the user to stand aside from a fight during use, or at least, they cannot capitalize on the effect by themselves. So whether you use a special or die with a QR weapon, your team fights a 3v4 where they are outnumbered but have the playing field leveled in their favor. Missiles force the opposing team to move from their spot while your team can go in and punish them QR forces the opposing team to deal with you, having to divert their attention from your splash and anchors Of course missile has more impact, but the QR weapon basically has infinite mini missiles to play with You sort of sacrifice half a player slot to have permanent missiles directed at the opposing team which in competitive is a very appealing strategy At least that's how I explain it to friends who give me funny looks when I say our QR weapon with a billion death carried the game Great analysis Chase
Usually in solo's I try to skirmish without flanking. I basically try to play as safe as I can and try to get important picks or even shark at times. So really it's an adaptable playstyle, mainly skirmishing but also switching to a slayer when the time is appropiate.
Ultimately you should never plan on dying in any competitively oriented shooter match. It's always going to be more valuable to stay alive no matter how you look at it, since dying puts your team into a disadvantageous state. But since players aren't perfect and the balance of Splatoon 3 enamors a very fast-paced environment with quick kill times where a lot of things can go wrong quickly, QR provides that nice bit of insurance in making potential repeated deaths less valuable to the enemy team.
not just reducing the frontliner's penalty when splatted, QR are also good for the whole team. The frontliner who spent lesser time waiting for respawn will spent more time pushing/holding the frontline's objective, which is also good for reducing the backliner's risk of getting overwhelmed when the frontliner is absent (you can't count on Charger, Explosher, Splatling to defend themselves against that many opponent for long time). Since pushing the frontline and protecting backliners is basically what frontlines should always do.
Since I always gravitated towards backline and support, I never really used quick respawn, and it took me a minute to understand the point of it. Great video btw!
Been playing Wipertana since the Secret Top Tier video that chara made a while ago, always found it comfortable to use in but now i know how to properly get the best value out of it in Solo-Q, thank you Chase! Congrats for the 20k!
That's a great video. Tbh even tho I run a lot of QR on Stamper and Tetra, I didn't know everything about the ability and now I learned some more. It's also very cool to see two of the first Splatubers I watched when I got back into the game after my 3 year break from Splatoon 2 collab tbh. Keep up the insane work.
Great video, and this is exactly why I love the Tri Nouveau in X Rank. I can use a Double Fizzy build that gives me a lot of flexibility in a solo environment, but thanks to getting lots of coolers I can still tap into the amazingly fun and effective QR playstyle. It’s the best Solo Q weapon of this style thanks to its kit IMO
It’s funny how a year ago after coming home from were I was having my birthday party and being a splat player I saw this and the fact it was posted on my birthday
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Quick Super Jump at all, because just from watching the footage in the background, that seems like a pretty integral part of the game plan. How fast you respawn isn’t quite as important if you still have to trek across the entire stage to get into the battle, but Quick Respawn plus Quick Super Jump basically allows you to throw yourself right into the fray over and over again and just be a thorn in the enemy team’s side. It still isn’t that useful if you instantly get killed on landing though, which I guess is why all three weapons you mentioned run full Quick Respawn have mechanics that let them counter super jump camping: Splatanas can charge in the air, letting you insta kill your camper with good aim, and Tetras can dodge roll out of the way. I imagine Brellas might also be good for QR then, and with Drop Roller, you could probably make any frontliner a QR monster. QR is definitely a very weapon specific, situational, heavy investment skill, but it’s also a lot more interesting than I thought it was. Thanks for making this video!
As a frontline Tri-sloshed nouveau player I cannot recommend how important many sets of quick respawns is especially considering how much I trade with others
I’m glad I got to learn even more things about one of my favourite abilities, like how sometimes dying can be a good thing in the right situation for us QR stackers 👀 Thanks for the vid o7
Great informative video on one of my fav abilities! I normally play Splash quite aggressively (with cbk+pure of qr), but after seeing this I realized I might've actually been throwing playing like that 😅. Also congratz on 20K!
This video here recommended to me, talking about the competitive uses for Quick Respawn, what weapons are best with it and synergies... Here I am using almost a full set of it in every mode simply because I am just generally REALLY bad at the game lmao
QR is great for Undercover, even just one main and a couple subs. Forcing the opponents to look at your Brella and keep them busy helps your team move in, even in solo queue!
I main dualie squelchers and I have two separate builds for them. I have a build with no QR that I use for either solo q or a more supportive playstyle while I have my QR build for a more aggro playstyle when I’m with friends in a voice chat.
when I started playing gloogas in 2 I had the mentality of "just dodge everything lmao" for the longest time until I started playing them again in 3. I dunno how I dealt with bomb spam and tenta missiles before but there's always situations where you can't just not die.
This is a really good vid! Chara put into words what I’ve been mulling about in my matches where I die a lot but won in the end. I learned in squid school that frontliners should try to play to protect their teammates and in a way, I do that by helping them or taking all the fights in the awkward spots in the map but i never really understood why the 2nd one worked until now. Ngl i feel kinda cooler with this new information haha! But also drives me to be more strategic on where i should start my fights. Congrats on 20k Chase! I will keep doing my best with tetra and wiper with you as my inspiration 💪😤
Also worth noting is that using sub power up will make anyone who uses your squid beakon to get the quick respawn effect. So using beakon + sub power up can really support the team.
2 things to keep in mind regarding the “I’m not getting any value out of QR because zi constantly get kills” 1. Even if you go even in a game, those kills aren’t going to be distributed evenly between your lives. Sometimes you might just get shut down and sometimes you get a double. This is especially true if you are playing extremely aggressive. 2. If you are consistently getting so many splats that quick respawn never activates, that’s likely a match you are already winning. It’s better to plan your gear around matches that are the closest; as that is where the marginal advantages add up the most. Same reason why LDE is good.
I find QR is powerful for a similar reason as LDE. With LDE, either you have insane ink efficiency, or you're winning (or both). With QR, either you're respawning super fast, or you're getting kills. Both of these abilities give you value from normally inopportune scenarios.
solo queue dark tetra main (trying out wiper as well) here I tend to try to go for the highest value targets, distract their backline with autobombs, those kinds of things, or flank them and force them to take a fight on two sides QR helps with making sure that me *losing* a fight isn't nessecarily a bad outcome in solo queue you don't get communication with teammates so some strategies are worse, but the enemy team has the same lack of communication, so the e-liter I'm bullying can't get their team to help them
I run heavy in soloQ (I has no frens ;_;) and I still usually have some quick respawn in there since i play more aggressively than I probably should and prefer to midline than backline. Even if your in a backline with how aggressive everyone has to be due to the maps, having at least a little bit of it can really help you from getting bulldozed if you get steamrolled at a bad time. Plus, if your out first as the backline, you can be a superjump spot for your teammates.
YOOO I CALLED IT IT WAS CHARA WOOO GAWNZ BIG BRAIN MOMENT 1000000 IQ REAL but in all seriousness congrats on 20k!!!!!!!!!!!!! I probably wouldn’t of picked up wiper if it wasn’t for you (and arashi) showing how good it can be!!! I got 5 stars on it yesterday, making it my freshest weapon :)
Thanks for showing me about quick respawn. I use tetra dualies and a QR Build with 2.9 QR. But I dont find that tetra had one playstyle. I play no skirmish tetra dualies, I think about it like, why distract and wait for them to do to use up their resources and have a teammate splat them, when you can just kill them and use their resources. QR is very much so a safety net for me and that's why i use a bunch of QR even on my kill heavy playstyle.
People tell me that QR is important because it allows you to make more aggressive plays, which never made sense to me since I don't see the value in taking so many risks. Recently I realized that they mean that QR acts as crutch for when you're losing, similarly to LDE, the best ability in the game. QR is also good on supportive weapons that will get assists a lot since assists don't invalidate QR
The thing is when people over look certain gear it’s because usually the play weapons or have play styles that conflict with what the gear does. But the problem with that is that thinking like that usually does more harm then good. That’s why people in solo are always playing like they don’t have teammates. Instead of meshing their play style and using the first few seconds to look at everyone’s gear they end up wasting time or try to do everything or nothing.
Wonderful video!! Been a fan for a while since you made that first splatana wiper vid. I dont like to run qr cause i never fully understood the ability
I didn't knew QR doesn't activate if you get a splat, nice to know I main blob and tend to play aggressively as a kinda "Aggro area denial, objective oriented squirmisher" (mostly in Rainmaker) and I find that one main of QR help me get into fight without worrying that much or getting picks. If I can distract the ennemy by causing bubbles chaos and allow my team to push by taking space it's all good, even better if I respawn quicker Don't know if it's a good strat though
I like to get splatted by enemies to keep 'em busy, whilst my bros can flank the others or earn some quantity of the turf. Being easy trackable and defeatable is useful, at times. For me, it's a matter of practicing. A newbie should die many many times before memorizing all the eventual patterns of playability that are usable and that are used, in the meantime, by his/her rivals.
No, you should go for kills. But it's just all about the timing so your team can work off of you. If you're playing solo, it's a bit different since it's harder to time things
Good Explaination, Chase and Chara, maybe i will think about a QR Shooter Build, Splatana, and Tetra Build so i can play weapons besides shooters, sense i main shooters for so long. Again, good job on 20k Subscribers Chase, Quick Respawn is a key.
I've mostly dismissed this as a primarily supportive ability that you would only run on weapons like big swig or aerospray. anyway thanks for the info, I've been looking for an ability to replace my ink saver main since I already run LDE making it kind of pointless.
I’ve never used gear abilities in Splatoon 2 and in Splatoon 3 I tried to get gear with quick respawn but failed I bought some clothes with a quick respawn main, upgraded the star power for more slots, bought a quick respawn drink, and didn’t get a single quick respawn I have absolutely no idea how gear abilities work and I probably did something wrong
I have a question about QR that I couldn't find an answer too, so I'll leave it here: When running QR, is it worth running Comeback, Haunt, Both or Neither with it? Comeback and Haunt both provide good abilities, but running both means you won't have enough QR. Running neither means you don't get those nice bonuses from Haunt and Comeback. What one is better to run if I should run one? Or is it more useful to swap them out for another main of QR?
It's really up to you. I run haunt on tetras but not Wiper or stamper. I recommend going to sendou.ink and seeing what other top players run and see if you like any of their builds
One thing I wish you talked more about is how much QR you should run based on what weapon you use. I know you mentioned Sendou, but a better understanding of how playstyles synergize with QR would have been very helpful. It's a little hard to know what benefits my main (neo splash) gets out of QR and how it should affect the way I play
That's really up to you on how much you'd like to run. This video was mainly focused on the three "Full QR" weapons and their playstyle, but other weapons typically run less. It just depends on how you want to play. For Neo Splash, people typically opt to not run QR since it's more support-y. But, if you find yourself going in and dying a lot, it may be worth considering!
In splatoon 2 I thought QR was useless and never used the ability. I’ve had a complete 180 on that opinion in 3! I now have a bunch of QR gear and builds that use that ability. I run a Main and 3 subs worth of it on my main weapon (Slosher) now, something I would never have done in the previous game!
i think the best full QR set, for splatanas at least, has Comeback, stealth jump and one sub of super jump, but beyond that only QR. for tetras its actually better to run no comeback, and run full QR with 2 subs of QSJ
While yall be running quick redrawn I be running tacticooler. Seriously tacticooler on tri slosher is insane don't underestimate it. Although it is good to know this info.
10:20 If you aren’t utilizing quick respawn, you probably don’t need it for that game because you’re winning. It’s the same thing with LDE. “what if the opposing team never pushes the objective far enough for LDE to activate?” then you didn’t need it to win. exact same for QR
Yes but if youre winning already, then you dont need any other abilities either. QR is a safety net for games where you might not be doing too hot, because you never know.
I'm not the best Splatoon player, and even the best players will lose fights sometimes, QR helps lesson that blow which is why I like QR quite a lot... But I also usually play front lines so I expect to die a lot.
i think that aside from the tactical value of qr, its just a fun playstyle. i main a qr stamper so when i dont have to worry about dying as much i can go in and try for trades without much of a tradeoff. super fun when you end up with a triple or quad off of skirmishing
Feeding is kinda funny in solo queue (imo) and it's kind of a crutch to me for when I try to de-rust playing stamper
QR is also very valuable in that getting many splats in one life still lets you activate it in further lives basically making it mathematically good, Respawn Punisher on the other hand…….
Okay honestly the phrase "trades with no tradeoff" is probably the most effective explanation of why QR is so damn good lmao
But if you trade, you lose QR. Also, Quick Super Jump exists and works even if you get kills. So what's the point?????
@@TheFireMouseYT you don't lose qr on trades unless you killed someone without dying before trading

Worth mentioning that QR is viable now because of the horrible map-design meaning you’re forced to fight no matter what.
In Splat1 and 2 nobody ran this ability competitively.

QR helps with making sure that me *losing* a fight isn't nessecarily a bad outcome
in solo queue you don't get communication with teammates so some strategies are worse, but the enemy team has the same lack of communication, so the e-liter I'm bullying can't get their team to help them
Fun fact: The only way to making your first death benefit from QR is to have a Tacticooler buff in effect.
YOOO I CALLED IT IT WAS CHARA WOOO GAWNZ BIG BRAIN MOMENT 1000000 IQ REAL
but in all seriousness congrats on 20k!!!!!!!!!!!!! I probably wouldn’t of picked up wiper if it wasn’t for you (and arashi) showing how good it can be!!! I got 5 stars on it yesterday, making it my freshest weapon :)
Great video.
I use QR Dapple Dualies Nouveau, it’s really fun, especially on Rainmaker because you get to feed for basically half the game.
I didn't knew QR doesn't activate if you get a splat, nice to know
I main blob and tend to play aggressively as a kinda "Aggro area denial, objective oriented squirmisher" (mostly in Rainmaker) and I find that one main of QR help me get into fight without worrying that much or getting picks. If I can distract the ennemy by causing bubbles chaos and allow my team to push by taking space it's all good, even better if I respawn quicker
Don't know if it's a good strat though
Congrats on 20k bro :)
That tweet at the end is the essence of “don’t run good gear builds. You’re better than that”
Congrats chase, but I have a question, should you never go for kills with Tetra’s or Splatana’s? Or should I when the time is right?
No, you should go for kills. But it's just all about the timing so your team can work off of you. If you're playing solo, it's a bit different since it's harder to time things
@@Chase247 Thanks Chase, god I wish I could play with you someday cause you’re awesome and congratulations
Good Explaination, Chase and Chara, maybe i will think about a QR Shooter Build, Splatana, and Tetra Build so i can play weapons besides shooters, sense i main shooters for so long. Again, good job on 20k Subscribers Chase, Quick Respawn is a key.
Congrats on 20k!
Also, surprised that I didn’t know QR was based on your kills. I really thought it was just insane.
I've mostly dismissed this as a primarily supportive ability that you would only run on weapons like big swig or aerospray. anyway thanks for the info, I've been looking for an ability to replace my ink saver main since I already run LDE making it kind of pointless.
I’ve never used gear abilities in Splatoon 2 and in Splatoon 3 I tried to get gear with quick respawn but failed
I bought some clothes with a quick respawn main, upgraded the star power for more slots, bought a quick respawn drink, and didn’t get a single quick respawn
I have absolutely no idea how gear abilities work and I probably did something wrong
The drinks don't guarantee that you will get quick respawn, it just increases the likelihood. You just got unlucky
congrats on 2ok once you and others explained tetras playstlye i loved it even more
oh i didnt know qr doesnt proc on qr trades, that explains a lot also thanks for this vid, it was needed
I have a question about QR that I couldn't find an answer too, so I'll leave it here:
When running QR, is it worth running Comeback, Haunt, Both or Neither with it? Comeback and Haunt both provide good abilities, but running both means you won't have enough QR. Running neither means you don't get those nice bonuses from Haunt and Comeback. What one is better to run if I should run one? Or is it more useful to swap them out for another main of QR?
It's really up to you. I run haunt on tetras but not Wiper or stamper. I recommend going to sendou.ink and seeing what other top players run and see if you like any of their builds
Yeah as a splatana main I honestly think they’re even better than the tetras in a solo environment but sometimes it’s bad
Congrats!
great video!
I use QR for fun, mainly because my main is the Undercover, and I’d like to actually play the game, since Nintendo doesn’t care about it.
Great video!!
In splatoon 2 I thought QR was useless and never used the ability. I’ve had a complete 180 on that opinion in 3! I now have a bunch of QR gear and builds that use that ability. I run a Main and 3 subs worth of it on my main weapon (Slosher) now, something I would never have done in the previous game!
i think the best full QR set, for splatanas at least, has Comeback, stealth jump and one sub of super jump, but beyond that only QR.
for tetras its actually better to run no comeback, and run full QR with 2 subs of QSJ
love the collab i would love to see them with other creators
Me, who has used QR since launch and thought it was random when it activates: 😮
While yall be running quick redrawn I be running tacticooler.
Seriously tacticooler on tri slosher is insane don't underestimate it.
Although it is good to know this info.
WOOO congrats!!!!!
Alright, loaded up some QR; LFG!
2 of my favorite comp players lets goo😃
I'm not the best Splatoon player, and even the best players will lose fights sometimes, QR helps lesson that blow which is why I like QR quite a lot... But I also usually play front lines so I expect to die a lot.
Huh, never knew that my main, Splatana stamper, is good with QR
The only thing i wanna know is, how many qr sub you need to respawn in 1 second?
With 2 mains
Despite how good it still is, i miss splatoon 1 QR.
All qr weapons should have a beacon kit that way at the beige ing of the match you can place a few then you can run in faster
Your Inkling is way too cute.
