  • Here's a first look at my 20 gallon community tank. These are all fish that had previously been in other tanks of mine. Due to space restrictions, I had to condense some of my aquariums. To form this community tank, I chose the most friendly/compatible fish from my other aquariums. All fish are very friendly and get along well, however, the gourami is always first to eat :P There's also a golden nebula shrimp in this tank - he is nearly impossible to get on camera though (perhaps in the future).

    I have similar stocking in my 20 gallon except I have black neon and glowlight tetras. I also had my gbr with the dwarf gourami but replaced the gbr with bolivian ram. And instead of cory cats, I have panda garras, kuhli and hillstream loach. These guys are less timid and shy than the cories during feeding time. Also, the dwarf gourami and ram cichlid won't bully them and eat up all their food. I do have 6 panda cories with a lone gbr in my other 20 gallon though. He's not as aggressive during feeding compared to my bolivian ram.

      Hey there. I’m thinking about housing a dwarf gourami with a dwarf cichlid in a 20 gallon. Wanted to get a German Blue Ram. Would you recommend these 2 together?

      @MrSeshs it could work. From my own experience of keeping both fish together in a 29 gallon, the gbr can hold their own against the dwarf gourami. Neither one really bullies the other. Dwarf gourami can be quite aggressive though, more so than the gbr.

      @@remhk6672 Awesome, I’m going to try it out some type this month. I wont be overstocking the 20 gallon long and it will be well planted so hopefully they all goes well. I’ve never kept cichlids before, tbh I thought they were the more aggressive ones

    Do you think a pair of rams would work with some fancy guppies in a 20 long?

    Wow I didn’t know you could do rams and dwarf gorami

      Me either. I think it helps that I only have 1 of each. Aside from the occasional chase or taunt, they seem to be fine. I chose them for this tank because they were the more peaceful fish from my 55gal. I just keep an eye on them.

      I don't understand the issue of keeping dwarf gourami and dwarf cichlids together? Similar diet and tank parameters neither are outrageously aggressive. I am planning on giving it a go.

      @@natetinsley3119 they can be pretty territorial fishes

      @@neros9453 this was nearly a month ago, I now have a a pearl and honey gourami along with a blue ram and a kribensis, they nip at each other and play tag but no damage.

      i didnt either till i tried it. 1 of each in a planted 40. thought theyd be able to find separate "homes" on either side of the tank. But nope, they are seriously best buds and stick together all day long. No fighting, just exploring the tank together. Its awesome to watch

    Did you ever have any issues with the gourami and cichlid?

    • @ReverendMantis
      @ReverendMantis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really. The gourami would defend her territory if the cichlid got too close, but she was never really aggressive though. The cichlid and the other fish seemed to understand the gourami was the boss of the tank. The cichlid would tease the gourami on occasion - like in the video, but that was the extent of it. Previously when they were all in my 55 gal. tank, I also had a male ram cichlid in there as well. The gourami and male ram would always be battling for turf (the cichlid usually prevailing), thus the reason for them being split up. In this tank, the cichlid and gourami are both female - if that has anything to do with it.

    How many rams are there and what are they male or female?
