    I got myself Bolivian rams, never had German or black rams. I've enjoyed them, they seem to live longer and be more forgiving than what I've heard of their smaller cousins. Very good community fish since they do well in general community temperatures and somewhat hard water, but they are not as pretty in stores and take a few weeks to colour up.

    • @PICASSO....
      @PICASSO.... ปีที่แล้ว

      I've Bolivian rams too. But what's the best tds & temperature?

    • @Exquailibur
      @Exquailibur ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't bother with tds, my temperature is 76 (I think that's like 25 c) give or take. I do find they do a lot better on a sand substrate though, this is because they like to sift through the sand for food. I have a planted 30-gallon tall with a ph of 6.8, as long as conditions are constant and you feed them well they breed easily. as for tankmates they seem to actually benefit from dithers like neon tetras.

    I video Nick, I've had rams before, they great to look at for a while until their demise. I much prefer the hardier Bolivian rams, although I am looking into getting a pair of apistos, but not sure which one would be suitable for a community tank with praecox rainbowfish. I'm staying away from fish that require discus type temperatures 🤣. A hints and tips video on apistos would be awesome and a list of your top 7 or 10 that you've had experience with. Cheers 👍

    Thankyou for making this very well and educational video about keeping and breeding rams 🙏! I live in Finland in the area where the water is soft or very soft, my kh is 2 and my gh is 3 or 4. My pH shifts around 7 and 7,5 so I have been using Eichen Extract to keep it atleast in 7. I recently stopped using Eichen, and started using catappa leaves and humus instead. In the past few years I have lost quite many rams, but don't know why. This video definitely made me stop using bloodworms! I'm getting some new rams next weekend, and this time I really want to make everything perfect for them to thrive and live a full, happy ram life 💙. P.s. Guppies are hard water breed, so everyone please don't put them in soft water.

    • @Owyn_Merrilin
      @Owyn_Merrilin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not to dispute his results, but bloodworms are not raised in manure. He's thinking of tubifex worms, which are known to live in sewage. I've never even heard that misunderstanding being applied to bloodworms before, usually it's people getting blackworms (which he specifically said are okay!) mixed up with tubifex worms. Bloodworms are just midge larvae. They're free swimming and like still but clean water. They're very similar to mosquito larvae.

    Thanks for the video.. I bought these at my local store because they were beautiful. I seem to be somewhat successful by accident. I have a black glass tank with 2 inches of river rock. UGF & HOB. I bought all females by accident. I had no clue how to sex them. I bought both German Blue and also Gold. I have many plastic plants for cover etc. I run my tank at 80°. I tried several types of food before I found what they like. They don't seem to like baby shrimp for some reason or floating pellets. They do like bug bites and Cichlid flakes. I tried blood worms. Not sure if they like them or not. I had 7. But 1 died. I have no clue why. I have 2 Full grown Blues. Two 1 inch Blues and two 1 inch Golds. They share the tank with a featherfin catfish and a snail. They ram each other very often. Seem to play chase each other. No major issues so far. I've only had them 3 months. TBH. I don't know what my water is. Because I don't own a test kit. Will get one soon. I did notice 1 major issue. Too much oxygen is bad for these. I reduced my oxygen greatly and they became more active. I never knew too much could also kill them. Any tips are much appreciated. Thanks again .

    Haven't thought of using other botanicals either then Indian almond leaves and alder cones, I have thought of chola wood but haven't gotten around to get it. 😅 well I now know what to get the next time I stop at my local shop, could even use it as diy moss poles for plants.
    I have 2 pairs of GBRs in a 35/39 gallon that's ¾ filled (so technically 20 gallon full) with Chili Rasboras. They are actually very peaceful when it comes to other species of fish, but when it comes to each other, they kinda spar which I find to be okay as they don't actually injure each other but are just doing what they'd be doing in the wild I'd assume. I also stopped feeding bloodworms as I believe that what caused my previous Rams to pass away. I now use brine shrimp or daphnia when available.

    Appreciate you vids, I was wondering if you could answer a question I have concerning rams: I have a quasi-blackwater aquarium - I add indian almond, and jackfruit leaves to my tank and use blackwater solution in addition to aquatic peat(fluval). My ph is consistently 6.4 but we do have rather hard water otherwise. All of my fish have done splendidly in my tank but I was considering rams as an addition to my aquarium. How important is the water hardness factor if I have tannins in the water and maintain an acidic tank? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

      lenght is always better for fish that are bottom dwellers. the majority of fish swim horizontally . a 20 gallon tank with a small footprint is only really as good as a 10 gallon with the same footprint. while it does have a larger water volume, fish can become stunted with the smaller amount of swimming space.

Then.... one turned into a complete total 100% Btch with a capital B! She doesnt bother the mollies, neons, rasporas, snails and otos. She has death eyes for the other ram. My other tank is about ready for her to move to until i can donate her.

    Hello man I just became a member happy to be part of the family. Anyway I joined because I’m starting my own breeding here in Sweden. But I’m quite inexperienced with fish keeping so I thought maybe if I became a member I could get some help.
    Nothing major but just a little mentoring would help out massively. My first concern is ambient room temperature. My parents would kill me if I tried to have fish inside our house but we have a big storage room that’s unused. The problem is there is no heating and no isolated door. My question is how important is it to have similar temps in the room I’m keeping fish to the actual tanks. Will the tanks heat up the room if I solve the isolation or will I most likely need to heat it.
    One other question. What diameter are your tanks. I love how it looks with your 20 gallon tanks that you have setup with the short side facing towards you. Stacked along side each other.

      Hey welcome! As for temperature you’ll have to suck and see whether your tanks stay warm but it is crucial they are kept warm. Second the tanks are 60cmx30x38

    Thanks, I was thinking about buying 3 electric blue rams but not now. I don't want a fish that can only live a year plus I have hard water.

    Thanks for the video. I have an explosion of cherry shrimp. Can rams eat the shrimp without having any adverse effects?
