    Awesome. I enlisted in a critical skill mos in the MN Guard as a 91F. 20k sign with the GI and the kicker. Scored 78 on the ASVAB. I am finalizing my E3 with my RSP SGT as well. I’m also 31and married with 2 dependents. So, to the best of my knowledge I’m maximizing every pay increase I can. Anything I’m missing? Thanks again for the wisdom SFC.

      You maxed it out! Already killing it! I’ll have a new video posted in the next week that’ll help you at BCT. Just try and crush it while you’re there, ace the PT test, shoot expert, and exceed the standards. Walk out of there as honor grad or in the top 10% of your company, exceeding the standard, and you’ll be promoted to E4 real quick.

    Thank you Sgt! this is really an informative video. I'm a new subscriber of yours and I'm currently studying and preparing for the ASVAB to join in the Army National Guard as well.
    Any tips on how I can secure a special training with my contract upon enlistment? like Airborne school, etc. what's the ideal score should I have in the ASVAB or line scores? thank you in advance, Sgt

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate your support Battle! It’s crazy because I was in Recruiting for many years and I’ve had lots of subscribers tell me they were enlisting, but still to this day, I get excited for every person who tells me they are in the process of joining or just joined. It’s such an incredible and rewarding journey.
      You are starting off on the right track by preparing for the ASVAB. Your ASVAB score can open up a lot of doors for you. For example, you need a 110 GT line score to be a Recruiter or to go Special Forces. Those doors aren’t even an option if you don’t have the score needed. If you would have asked me this question 6 months ago, I would have said it’s almost impossible to get a special school in your contract. However, I just recently read about 2 Pennsylvania Guardsman who got Ranger contracts and went to Ranger School immediately following Initial Active Duty Training. So, let me make a few calls and see if I can get more intel on that. If it isn’t an option to get in your contract, a high ASVAB score, plus, scoring high on the Army Combat Fitness Test, and graduating in the top 10% of your company at BCT might open up those special school opportunities. When I was at Infantry School a couple guys managed to get Airborne slots based on their performance at Infantry School. It wasn’t in their enlistment contract, but, they got the offer at the school. I’ll follow up when I get more intel. I got another video coming soon that will help you so keep an eye out for it!

      @SFCBEITZ  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. There’s not a minimum number of classes, but the less classes you take, the less money your GI Bill pays. Here’s the breakdown:
      GI Bill Pay
      Full time $439
      3/4 time $329
      1/2 time $219
      Less than 1/2 time $109.75

    Thank you for the valuable information Point Man. I'm currently making preparations to pursue a O9S contract this upcoming summer but I had a question about possibly enlisting instead. There's a lot of conflicting information online and I was hoping for clarification.
    You've mentioned stripes for gold and stripes for buddies program, but what about enlisting with a higher rank with just college credit? If I have a 4 year degree already, do I come into the guard as a specialist? What about making PFC with just college? What I'm trying to figure out is if the Guard operates differently than they active duty army or if they work the same in this regard.
    Thank you for all that you do.

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have a Bachelors degree, you will enlist as an E4. AR 601-210 (the regulation Army National Guard Recruiters use), in paragraph 2-18, sub paragraph 8 states: “Has successfully completed a degree-producing college program of 4-year duration, the college or university is listed in the AIPE, and has been awarded a bachelor degree or higher (foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated according to para 2-7f), may enlist at any time at pay grade E-4”. Unless you went to a non accredited college, you should enlist as an E4. I’d personally recommend enlisting as an Officer. However, in all my years of experience, the best Officers I’ve ever had were Enlisted before they went to the Officer side. If you have any further questions, just hit me up, I got answers.

      @@SFCBEITZ Thank you so much for the timely reply! Since you offered I'll throw one more at you. Based on your experience, what is the O9S process like for non priors? From what I've read, a normal enlistment consists of the ASVAB, physical, etc... Is it different for National Guard officers? I know that I'll still do all of those previously mentioned things, but is there a selection process with a board or do you get to just enlist under a O9S as long as your qualified?
      I know the easy answer may be to tell me to go talk to a recruiter, and I am. My recruiter is great however he hasn't done an O9S contract before so he's learning it as we go. I also need 30 more college credits before I can enlist, so we're getting the preliminary stuff done in the mean time. Anyways, Just trying to hear it from as many reliable sources as I can. Not sure what to expect going forward.
      Thank you for all that you do. Hope I explained my question well enough.

      The Army National Guard has a dual mission, to protect the state, and the nation. Therefore, in the National Guard you receive orders from the state Governor and the President. So you receive benefits from both the State and Federal Government. These benefits are applicable for the Army National Guard for each state. You’d receive these benefits in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. Does that make sense? I’ll reach out to the Massachusetts National Guard tomorrow and get you linked up with a Recruiter! I’d recommend reaching out to your Recruiter for assistance. Your Recruiter (or you) can contact your state education office and they can make it happen. If you don’t have access to your Recruiter for some reason, go on NationalGuard.com, hit their live chat icon (💬), tell them you’re in the Guard and you need your state education offices number. Let them know your GI Bill Kicker wasn’t activated when your GI Bill was activated. If you’re lucky, they might back pay you the Kicker money for each month that has went by that you didn’t receive it but received the GI Bill. That would be huge for you!

You will get a partial BAH while at 2 weeks annual training in the Guard. The reason you don’t get it in the Guard after BCT/AIT is you’re only working for the Guard twice a month (unless you get activated for 30 days or more or go to another specialty school for 30 days or more).

      It’s great that you’re already preparing for your future! I think a lot of my videos will help you so I’d suggest browsing/watching them!
      So the Louisiana Army National Guard has state college tuition and you’ll also receive federal tuition assistance. Your state tuition is a 100% tuition waiver for LA residents. There’s normally a cap on that amount in most states but I don’t see a cap in LA. From what I’m seeing you’ll easily be able to have 100% of your college paid for as long as it’s not a super expensive private school. Here in Tennessee we will pay for any school that is equal or lesser to the tuition price at The University of Tennessee (which is expensive but it’s 100% covered). I hope that helps! If you have any further questions, hit me up!

    • @SFCBEITZ

      Active Duty is going to station you wherever they need you - based on the needs of the Army - so it would be very difficult to join the Army and be in college full time unless you were doing school online. Even then, you’ll have to go to BCT/AIT and miss school...or so you mean transfer from the Guard to Active Duty?

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For 68W I would say you probably didn’t get a Kicker because that job rarely falls in the critical skills MOS list - jobs that fall on that list receive a bonus and the GI Bill Kicker. That list consists of jobs that they need people to enlist in. 68W is a job that a lot of people want, so they normally don’t have a high demand for soldiers in that job. Did you get a bonus? If you got a bonus, you probably got the kicker. If you didn’t, that sucks BUT, you got one of the best jobs the Army has…so you sacrificed extra incentives but got a really good MOS! Hope you’re having a great Christmas Exodus! I went home on Christmas Exodus when I was at Infantry OSUT. That break from training was amazing I just didn’t want to go back after lol

    Point Man, what score do I need in the ESVAB to be a 68W? I scored 69 on the practice. My recruiter said I should be good without practicing for the real test.

    • @SFCBEITZ
      @SFCBEITZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, there’s not an overall score required for any job. Eligibility of each job is determined by your line scores within the ASVAB. How they determine your overall score is very complicated. I literally asked our ASVAB proctor to explain it to me and he couldn’t lol but I will tell you this: you need a decent GT and ST line score to be a 68W. The sections that make up the GT and ST scores are: word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, arithmetic reasoning, mechanical maintenance, auto & shop information, mechanical comprehension, electrical information, mathematics knowledge, and general science 😅 with a 69 on the practice test, I can pretty much guarantee you’ll have the line scores needed to be a 68W. Let me know how it goes!

    • @SFCBEITZ

      Good questions; you won’t start receiving GI Bill benefits until you’ve completed BCT and AIT. What state are you in? You might be able to receive a tuition assistance before training depending upon your state. I normally recommend getting training knocked out before enrolling into college but if there’s a big gap between the time you enlist(ed) and ship to BCT, I could understand why you’d want to knock out some classes. Let me know what state you’re in and I’ll get more info for you!

      In Tennessee, where I recruited last, the day after you enlisted, you could state getting state tuition assistance from the TN Army National Guard. I just read what your state offers (I added it below) and I don’t think you can receive any kind of college assistance until after you complete training. However, reach out to your Recruiter or RSP NCO and see if they might know something that I don’t see that can help you / or if you want to get the best answer possible, reach out to your state education office and ask them if the NJ Guard can provide you any assistance toward college before BCT, that office is the subject matter experts for your state. Here’s their number: (609) 562-0975
      100% tuition only, up to 16 credits per semester; Only covers tuition not fees. Must use all state and federal financial aid (FAFSA), including available Post 9-11 GI Bill Benefits, first. Soldier must be enrolled as undergraduate or graduate student in good academic standing with the public school they are attending.

      lol what I would recommend is: tell your Recruiter you would like to work any events he/she has and would like to help with anything you can..in return, they can get you promoted. That's what I did for my troops. If they helped me during events and were actively trying to find referrals, I would put new recruits that I found under their name and get them promoted.
