Prior service Marine here. I was active duty for several years. I now am in the Army National Guard. It has been a fantastic and rewarding experience. I can remain close to my family, go to school, and continue with my civilian career. The opportunity to deploy is something I've looked forward to in the guard. I deployed once with the Marines and I would do it again in a heart beat. Pick an MOS that transfers to the civilian world and take every chance you can to improve yourself and deploy. You get The best of both worlds civilian/military. I did 17 years of AGR and Retired through the med board. Plus the Army paid for my Bachelors degree. I did my Masters degree with the Post 911 GI Bill. The Guard/Reserves is a great deal. You don't have to go Active duty Army.

7 years active and now in the NG. Some of this info was solid and truthful but some was cringe worthy. If someone wants to go to college and have education benefits the guard cannot be matched. Active duty is great for those that don’t want to go to school... bc depending on your MOS you will not have time. Guard has ADOS, technician and AGR. Don’t sleep on the guard. I hope others watching this dig deeper.

I joined the guard simply to experience military training. I didn't want to regret not doing it. There was a lot of tough times during training but overall its def worth it. I use the military to my full advantage. I put money in my tsp account, I have a security clearance which is not easy to come by, I can now see things from a different perspective because of my military experience and now because of covid-19 I make really good money while many people are being furloughed from their jobs. I was able to expedite the process for my parents obtaining their green cards simply because I was in the military. I honestly see the NG or reserves as an immense safety. You're a government employee which means you qualify for many benefits and can take advantage of discounts that companies offer to service members. I can still stay close to my family while also attending school. If you play your cards right its definitely worth it. However, I only recommend joining when you are younger like right after high school. I had trouble socializing with people when I was younger so the military has extremely boosted my confidence. The reason I say younger is better is because you have few to no bills to pay, most aren't married, you can still attend school, you have the free time to learn a lot etc. Plus gi bill for a 6 year contract as well so you can get paid while going to school. It's lit but even with all I have said I will not stay in the army. I will most likely transition to the air force and become an officer only because the quality of life is better and they have more technical jobs that will fall in with what I'm studying in school which is computer engineering. Who knows maybe get into the space force 👌

Encouraged anyone in early 20s or 18 years old to give NG a minimum 3 years. 2 years associate degree or 1 year trades school to put skills background better than 70% people in job market... I gained valuable experience after 2 years in NG and gained access to $75k jobs...

I agree, I always said that the guard isn't good for kids right out of high school, especially since the post 9/11 applies only if you've done 36 months of active time. If you're a bit older and have your shit together it's a better option for healthcare and stability. I'm in the Air Guard and your career really depends on your self motivation. Depending on your job you can hop on orders and stay there, or pick up an AGR slot. For us, you can get up to E-6 on your first contract, after that you have to be willing to switch units to get E-7. I know plenty of people who ranked up faster their active duty counterparts. The only thing I'd gripe with you is the retirement, you can do 20 years and get the pension, you just can't collect until 62, however every year of AD it gets reduced by that amount.
I also agree, go Air Guard and pick a good job, I worked with Army a lot and feel bad for ya'll

I am an Army National Guard recruiter. I also spent 15 years active duty. 5 of those I was a USAREC recruiter. Both have their benefits. The only thing I can suggest and do suggest to my applicants, is to talk to every branch and component to see what is the best fit for you. You are also giving false information on here (home down payment, education etc). You are all over the place in this video young man. If you are going to make a video which is your right and we greatly appreciate it, you need to be FACTUAL. You are a really young Soldier. Additionally.. the retirement is THE SAME and the pay is not a quarter. You are working 2-3 days a month, what kind of compensation do you expect for 3 days of work? The Guard obviously wasn't a good fit for you because your Recruiter should have steered you towards RA. However, there are Guard Soldiers making 4K a month off of just going to school (fact not opinion). We also DO NOT receive "points" or additional compensation for recruits. It's not all about the money. This is a very negative unbecoming video. I am not your leadership, but, if I were, I'd counsel you for this video. You are on her bashing the very institution that took you out of your bad situation. You are sitting there with your "brush" that's really a comb in your snivel gear degrading the institution that feeds and clothes you and gives you your TH-cam rating for speaking on the Military. We don't need you to brag on what you've "done", you'd be surprised what your Recruiters have done. This video goes against all the Army Values and is appalling.....

@@BubbleGutz lol. Great question. I forgot about this feeling I had in my life at the time. I’m 23 now.
It was weird, i finished AIT and got a bit jealous of the people who went active duty and were going to interesting places like Korea, Italy, Alaska, or stateside. Coming back home and seeing how things haven’t changed is the part that made me feel stuck in a way.
But I think it’s more of a grass is Greener type thing. The guard has helped me a lot, get a bullshit associates degree, covered the main tuition of school, got me to travel a bit, and met a lot of people. Every year I did something like DC, H8 recovery school, AT at Fort Drum, JRTC (absolutely awful), ADOS orders, and recently got a full time tech job.
It’s turned out a lot better than expected. Coming off COVID the first year was rough but 2022 is when I started doing more army army stuff and I began to enjoy it. Last year I had 6 month ADOS orders to work at a shop and do recovery and made great money.
My only thing for active duty would be to leave stateside to overseas for a while. But otherwise I’m okay with being army 9-5 and not 24/7 like active duty people. Both had pros and cons but AD doesn’t sound too bad either minus having your life being all mroensrmy

@@BubbleGutz Either or isn’t a bad option. Just don’t wait anymore or else it gets harder but you’re still young. Active is good if you’re young, no big responsibilities, can travel a bit, but be committed to the uniform 24/7. Or Guard if you wanna do school, keep or work a civilian job, get benefit while not doing as much time. Or you can go full time guard where you get to go home or you have to be on the clock 24/7.

If i’m just a regular National Guard does that make a part job, like is a regular National Guard a part time job or can it be a full time. Not talking about the over seas Active duty like i said. I don’t wanna be deployed overseas i just wanna be a National guard. I’m not sure if that made sense but that’s why i’m asking.
