The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian.
Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he co-composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You or Hero and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that increased Celine Dion WW fame). He has produced a song for Dimash among others.
When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, they were living in San Francisco’s bay area, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics.
Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels).
One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests:
- Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it),
- Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US, she is her friend and role model and he made several duets with her),

Lara does not showcase, she even does not tell or sing the story.
She instead lives the story in front of you: she is in the story emotions at the very moment she says the words, that’s why it feels so authentic! That’s why it sucks you in as if you were watching a movie.
I don’t know any other vocalist with this gift.
I think those artists inspired by Barbra Streisand have this ability to live a song. I'm thinking of Regine Velasquez in particular. Her performance of "What kind of fool am I" shows not only her incredible power but a "Lara" level of story telling. As always, thank you for your comments.

Nice reaction. There are so many great Lara songs. May I suggest "To Love Again" next. It is a little bit more rock/pop which will let you see another side of Lara's talent. Truthfully she could sing the phone book and it would sound great.
Yes! The way To Love Again from this concert gets overlooked is a minor crime against humanity. It's phenomenal and shows a part of herself no other song in this concert shows.

What a tragedy for Lara to write this song together with that bastard called Walter A. she was engaged to and finally to be betrayed by him, to change the lyrics and sing it against him. Very emotional song. But her most emotional one is "parce que tu pars"(because you are leaving). A song she wrote for her stuggling with suicidal thoughts because of her professional and personal nightmare in USA. And she's not talking to a lover, she is talking to herself. You have to see her face while performing it in her Paris2001 concert. A very kind soul who must have been through painful times. Take care Lauren sweethart, i think i love you ❤
Great reaction in understanding her vocal tools. Also remember there was no autotune here, here pitch is perfect and however SHE wants to portray the song. She has more vocal control than anyone I've ever listened to, even Celine Dion.

I don't know if it's the right place to ask to, but may be can I advise you a very well known et loved song of Lara (soprano), which is a duet with Mauranne (alto), a belgian very good singer who is sadly dead in 2018. The song is called "Tu es mon autre" which means "You are my other one".
