Under the Microscope - Cheek Cells

- Hi, Ruth here from Devon Science (formerly Sciencedipity) - a small independent science outreach biz in southwest UK, making science awesome for kids!
In this video, you can learn how to sample and view your own cells under the microscope. We're using our own cell staining kit here (available for you to purchase) which contains 1% Methylene Blue. Methylene Blue is a common all round stain for cells (do not use to stain living organisms) and this experimental technique is a requirement for GCSEs to differentiate between animal and plant cells.
You can purchase a staining kit here: devonscience.c... it contains slides, coverslips, wooden stick, pipette and a squeezy bottle of methylene blue.
Check out our other videos on microscopy or go to: devonscience.c... for more inspo!

@@PratyushaSharma-mf3db I'm in England and this is a practical all biology students have to know about here! I teach biology :)
Good luck in your practical tomorrow :)
@@devonscience thanks it went well
@@PratyushaSharma-mf3db great 😃
Thanks mam 😊
Thanks alot mam 🥰🥰
You're welcome 😁
Can we use iodine?
You could try, but, because your check cells don't contain starch (which iodine stains, hence it's used for staining plant cells), you may not see anything! Let me know if it works though :)
@@devonscience 👍🏻 btw can we also use food colours for stains?
@@thelegendsofgaming27 sorry for Kate reply , I've just seen your question...food colourings don't work well at all
@@devonscience oh thanks 👍🏻
Which phone is this😮
Not sure what you mean - which phone where?! In this video I'm using a microscope to see my cells!
@@devonsciencei think they meant the phone which is used to record this video
