The BEST way to Shine your Tires! (You'll never use tire shine again!)

  • Today i put to the test of something i stumbled upon on the internet. I found a statment saying you can use Pledge (yes the stuff you clean furniture with) to shine your tires! I will never use tire shine ever again! i got tired of the sloppy greasy appearance tire shine gave and not to mention it ALWAYS ends up all over the car due to the momentum of the tire. Using Pledge turned out to be an amazing alternative, it provided a very rich black looking tire but was not sloppy wet and throwing the shine on my fenders! amazing use for pledge and i will continue to use pledge to shine my tires forever!

    Back in the late 60s before tire shine products were available, We all used pledge on tires and dashboards, Another product we used on tires was Mop and Glo. You discovered something we old schoolers did back in the day.

    Great video !! I do have a couple things you may wish to consider. Pledge is also available in a pump spray container, and I've found that the tire clean/shine foams are not nearly as messy as the pump spray version. One last mention is that Wesley's Bleach-White, recently sold to another company with a slightly different brand name, is the only actual white-wall and white-letter cleaner that i've ever come across that actually works and all it takes is a very light lick with a brush and the road grime just 'melts' away. Thank you so very much...

    I worked in a motorcycle shop in the late 1970's pledge was used to detail every motorcycle on the floor for sale. Works great on tires, paint, plastic, chrome. Removes bugs well also. If you buy the cheaper dollar store version it even has wax added. I have been using it ever since.

    I've used budget for decades on other related applications. Spray underneath dirt bike plastic fenders to keep mud from sticking. Spray on the front bumper to keep bugs and Road Grime from sticking and impact in your front bumper and headlights. Also for tire shine. Even has Rain-X effect for the windshield.

    The Tire stuff will work just as good as the pledge, you have to remember tires have pours and you should clean your tires thoroughly removing all dirt and grime before you apply any tire shining agent...plus instead of spraying the tire shine on the tires use a sponge and apply the tire shine heavily.. The main problem why your tires become dual is because after most people leave the car wash after they've applied tire shine they don't wait for the tire shine to soak in and the tire shine gets flung off the tires before it's had time to be absorbed into the the tire that's why after you've properly applied tire shine you want to wait at least 20 minutes before pulling out of the car wash..
    On the subject a great substitute for black magic tire shine is 3M tire dressing it's thin so it soaks up faster in the tires pours and it resists rain very well too for a long lasting shine.

    Yes we used pledge back in the 60s because there wasn't any tire shine products on the market. At least none that we knew of. We contacted a pledge representative and ask him what he thought about it when he got back to us he told us that he would not recommend this using it on the Vehicle tires, as over time it could cause the tires to crack and prematurely age. Has something to do with the chemical makeup between what pledge is made with and the rubber composition. So for what it's worth that's my two cents. Looks good though

  • @eddiel7033
    @eddiel7033 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Everyone knocks the Black Magic Tire Wet, but I love it. Don't spray it directly on the tire, use an applicator. If you want a gloss, wet look, apply 2 coats. Let it dry before you drive. Done right, it looks great and lasts longer than any other dressing aside from the tire paints. It also repels dirt, brake dust and water extremely well.

    I use a product called, 'COVER ALL' for my tires and that stuff is FANTASTIC! It sprays from an aerosol can like spray paint, but it doesn't come out in the form of foam and you don't wipe it... simply spray and go.
    I personally prefer my tires to look wet and this stuff achieves that look without looking streaky. It sprays on nice and even... again, like spray paint, and the shine lasts for a good 5 days.

    To help maintain the black appearance of your tires, simply wash them with a water-based all-purpose cleaner or mild soap and a soft bristled brush.
    Tires contain an ingredient called antiozonant that protects tires from ozone in the air. An antiozonant is an organic material added to the rubber compounds that prevent or slows the deterioration caused by exposure to the elements and cracking. Today's rubber is designed intentionally in a manner that allows the antiozonant constantly to work its way to the outside of the tire and as such, continually keeps the outer surface and sidewall pliable and resistant to oxidation.
    If you would like to apply a tire dressing, be cautious because there are many different tire dressings on the market. It is recommended to use a water-based dressing. Some silicone or petroleum-based solvents or alcohol may cause premature cracking from accelerated aging process.

    Great old school cool. Looks as good as the ultimate - boot polish and elbow grease.
    I used BP for decades. The black sheen was way cooler than any "special" product.
    I tried tire 'shine" - it does go everywhere, even if you wipe it off like crazy and the "wet-look? Meh!
    Interested to see if you're masochistic enough to give BP a go. Warning: it's s-l-o-w.

    Before you try this yourself, you may want to make sure pledge won't do any damage to your break pads (causing a slip effect), rims, rubber, etc. You can avoid most of that by spraying the product on a cloth and then applying it with that, but you will still want to make sure that product won't damage your rubber.

    Ryan I bought a bath tub scrubber (like a grill scrubber but not as coarse) and some off brand furniture polish at the dollar store and it worked great! Thanks for this vid.

    Meguiars gel tire shine. Best tire shine I've ever used.

    • @cgibbergo263
      @cgibbergo263 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree... That Macquires gel is the best and even with driving thru water pretty regularly on my bad gravel driveway in the country the gel holds its shine for what seems to me to be a pretty long time. But that said it's pretty good idea to use the furniture cleaner and shine if and when in a pinch.

    Cover All Tire Shine is my favorite - I put it on at the curb so I don’t get any in garage or driveway and let it dry. It looks great, I have tried them all - but nit pledge! $10 can at 0’Rileys on sale - otherwise I think $13.
