Their 40 ounces to freedom CD was played at every house party back in the 90s.
If you live in Cali, its kinda a requirement still to play at least one sublime song durring the party. State mandated.

Sublime was so dope because you might get a reggae song, ska song, punk song, hip hop song, or soul song, or maybe u get all of that in one song. They always made feel good music, but a lot of times the messages were deep and dark. Next I suggest reacting to Badfish, in that song he uses ocean/surfing metaphors to talk about the struggles of his heroin addiction. He literally asked for help in the song... RIP Brad
I'm pretty sure Badfish is about alcoholism (I think he started using heroin after 40 Oz. to Freedom), but you could make the argument that addiction is addiction regardless of the substance.
On the other hand, Pool Shark is definitely about his heroin addiction, no argument possible there.

Sublime never made a bad song. Bradley had the most beautiful soulful voice of his era. Rip Bradley and Lou dog.

There has never been anyone who has replicated brad. His voice and how he sang, rapped was completely unique. He is like 5 artist in one.

Bradley often mentions the love of his life in his songs, Lou, Louie, Lou Dog...his pet Dalmatian. (Hear him barking in the background?)
Fun Fact: The chorus lyrics were originally "Doin time and the livings easy", but because he sampled George Gershwin's "Summertime" they sued Sublime and wanted them to change the lyrics to "Summertime and the livins easy" in order to release the song. However, Brad was already dead at that point. It was Sublimes manager who went back and recorded himself singing the word "Summertime" so they could release the song.

This song almost never seen the light of day. Brad died thinking the song wasn't going to be released. The music exec's fought to get it released after he died. The song on the cd is called doin time. The song it was sampled off of was called summertime by IRA Gershwin I think. The original version said doin time but had to be changed to summertime per copyright laws. Brad was dead so a friend of the band Michael happolt went in and sang summertime. Listen close and you can tell it's not Brad's voice saying summertime.

You should listen to that whole album, nothing bad on it which is rare for most bands out there, Usually a album will have about 15 tracks with only 2 of them being good, Sublime nailed the whole thing.
