DIY Arduino Writing/ Drawing Machine - 2D Pen Plotter

  • hi in this video i have shown how to make a Homework writing machine also known as a 2D Plotter. this machine can be used with any pen, pencil, or other drawing tool to write on a paper or any notebook for works such as drawing, sketching, caligraphy, art, etc.
    It uses an arduino and a CNC shield along with stepper motors and stepper motor drivers to enable the movement in x and y axis. i have used aluimnium profiles and 3d printed plates to provide structure to the machine. i have used belts and pulleys for linear motion from the motors to the plates. for power supply i have used a 12v 2A power adapter. after powering the machine, you will have to connect it to a computer and use universal gcode sender software to send the gcodes to the machine. you can take any text or image file in inkscape and convert it into a gcode in very few and
    simple steps. once the gcode is ready, open it in the universal gcode sender, connect the COM port of the arduino and you can start executing the file. you can also change the speed and acceleration of the machine in the firmware settings menu under the machine tab of the universal gcode sender software.
    UPDATE: Writing machine working demo video: • How to use Writing Mac...
    you can find all the CAD STL files in the links provided below.
    NOTE: the servo motor requires a modified version of the GRBL code. it will not work with the standard GRBL available online. i have modified the GRBL to work with the servo, you can download it from the link below.

    I remember old drawing plotters that worked like this , absolutely fascinating to watch. They used to have 4 colour pens, the machine would go off and change every so often.

    • @SciHeartJourney
      @SciHeartJourney ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I remember those too!
      Then our company bought a $40,000 color printer that took up a whole room and required stringent environmental control.
      They mothballed the cool plotters thinking they were going to save money. 🤣
      They made integrated circuits, so they needed high quality color prints.
      For most of us, they're still useful. 11x17 is the biggest printer commercially available, but that's just too small! 😞

    Please tell me, is there such an opportunity for this device, not to draw the whole drawing at once, but in segments, for example, I drew one line and drove off to the zero point for a couple of seconds, then again drew another line and again drove off for a few seconds, and apply this action for everything drawing, yes it will be much more in terms of the time spent, but the fact itself is such an action possible or not?

I remember having similar problems when doing the eggbot the First time. Let ne know why v2 is worth the (Peanuts) price... Are you supporting builders there?

    Hello, can this be used as sticker cutting machine? I mean Can a cutter/blade be incorporated insted of a pen. If yes, what are the changes that I will have to do. I am a complete beginner at this. Thanks

    • @GoskMichael
      @GoskMichael 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cool idea, pretty inspirational.
      Not my video so I don't want to give definite answers but some thoughts on the subject - cutting by such machines is usually achieved in 2 main ways - either by laser module that could be mounted instead of pen - then at least theoretically it's more less the same in steering code just instead of pen up/down command it needs to switch on and off the laser module... but it burns and it's power Vs speed (also distance to the material being cut) are important to setup properly for good results (+ many other questions needs to be answered like power of the laser module etc.)
      Or second option: having a true cutting blade - and this is where it gets a bit more complicated on the conceptual level (at least for me, maybe there will be someone here who could explain it how to make it easy) as, if I understand correctly what I saw in one of professional machine of this kind, the knife needs to rotate accordingly to the direction it cuts into. Needs to know the vector of the line/curve it cuts - and you would need to rotate the head with the blade accordingly. Is it possible with this grbl software? Idk..
      For sure there are cutting plotters that could cut stickers (really cool idea) as they do it professionally... But it's a good question what would be better and what qualities you look for - should it be cheap as possible and can it leave burnt sides? Or will the knife be sharp enough and not clogged into the glue layer of stickers?
      Open question but really got me thinking!
