    I remember old drawing plotters that worked like this , absolutely fascinating to watch. They used to have 4 colour pens, the machine would go off and change every so often.

    • @SciHeartJourney
      @SciHeartJourney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I remember those too!
      Then our company bought a $40,000 color printer that took up a whole room and required stringent environmental control.
      They mothballed the cool plotters thinking they were going to save money. 🤣
      They made integrated circuits, so they needed high quality color prints.
      For most of us, they're still useful. 11x17 is the biggest printer commercially available, but that's just too small! 😞

    Hello, can this be used as sticker cutting machine? I mean Can a cutter/blade be incorporated insted of a pen. If yes, what are the changes that I will have to do. I am a complete beginner at this. Thanks

    • @GoskMichael
      @GoskMichael ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool idea, pretty inspirational.
      Not my video so I don't want to give definite answers but some thoughts on the subject - cutting by such machines is usually achieved in 2 main ways - either by laser module that could be mounted instead of pen - then at least theoretically it's more less the same in steering code just instead of pen up/down command it needs to switch on and off the laser module... but it burns and it's power Vs speed (also distance to the material being cut) are important to setup properly for good results (+ many other questions needs to be answered like power of the laser module etc.)
      Or second option: having a true cutting blade - and this is where it gets a bit more complicated on the conceptual level (at least for me, maybe there will be someone here who could explain it how to make it easy) as, if I understand correctly what I saw in one of professional machine of this kind, the knife needs to rotate accordingly to the direction it cuts into. Needs to know the vector of the line/curve it cuts - and you would need to rotate the head with the blade accordingly. Is it possible with this grbl software? Idk..
      For sure there are cutting plotters that could cut stickers (really cool idea) as they do it professionally... But it's a good question what would be better and what qualities you look for - should it be cheap as possible and can it leave burnt sides? Or will the knife be sharp enough and not clogged into the glue layer of stickers?
      Open question but really got me thinking!

    I don't think all 2040 V slot extrusions are made equal (got mine from Openbuilds). The X carriage still had terrible wobble after adjusting the eccentric nuts to max limit, with barely no friction on the wheels. The printer X,Y and Z e-steps are calibrated and dimensions come out almost spot on, so its not the printer.
