  • In this video I perform part of a 40k mile service on a 2017 VW Golf Alltrack, which involves an oil and filter change as well as a DSG service. I also show the procedure for setting the correct transmission fluid level. Keep in mind I am following procedures I have researched and believe them to be correct.

Helpful video - I'm at the point of needing to do this service on my 2017 Alltrack. Can you provide more info on the transmission temperature reader you indicated worked for you? I cant seem to locate a reasonably priced one anywhere... Thanks!

I purchased an OBD Eleven dongle and downloaded the app to do this. We have 3 modern VWs, so it made sense to buy it. It was around $65 on Amazon for the dongle and the app is free. It may only work on Android phones or tablets, I am not sure. You can do a lot of things with it, so for me it was worth the money.

No. You have to check the level from below using the overflow method.

Thank you for the video. I am looking to buy a 2017 Golf Alltrack. How your experience with the car have been so far?

I have not had to do anything to this car other than service. It is my wife's car and she loves it, I am not used to the DSG transmission but I have driven a manual my whole life. It also does not use any oil at all between changes, unlike my 2008 GTI.

I have an '18 Golf Sportwagen. If I cannot do the servicing myself at 40,000 Miles, which is 1,500 miles away, how much is a decent cost to the consumer?

I have seen people post prices on Facebook groups and it looks like $400-$600 is the going rate. I would take it to an independent place before I went to a dealer. That is an independent place that is a European car specialist.
