Jeff Fowler showed up at my screening after the movie, and though he didn’t confirm anything, when he asked the audience who they were expecting in the post credit scene he specifically asked “Metal Sonic?” So it’s for sure something that is on his radar
As soon as I heard "50 years" I had an idea of the direction they were heading but didn't think they'd follow through, with how much lore they changed I didn't actually expect much Sonic Adventure outside of the helicopter that said SA-2 on it. Of course I was wrong and they did include Shadow, but that leaves a lot of questions. I was accepting of some stuff such as the chaos emeralds... bizarrely enough... being inside the master emerald. I don't get why, but by the end of the movie the became separate entities so it's fine. I was really expecting Angel Island when the light came out of the ocean, but I guess labyrinth zone was faithfully depicted... even though it's everyone's most hated zone in Sonic history. I hope they don't change too much of Shadow's lore like they did with elements of this movie. While I get the need to not be too preictable... if they want to focus on human characters like in the other two movies, they HAVE to include Maria, and get her right! If they screw up Shadow or don't include Maria, who was a central character to Shadow's story in Sonic Adventure 2... then I'm not going to watch another Sonic movie from Paramount because this is when the Sonic franchise experiemented with a more serious story, and it paid off big time with Shadow being a fan favorite, for better or worse. Sonic 3 will be the make it or break it point. Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my favorite Sonic game of all time but if they mess with Sonic Adventure 2's story too much I'm going to be upset.
@@BlueAmpharos I feel like it would be super difficult to incorporate Maria into Shadow's backstory without it messing with the pacing heavily. Sonic 2 was already pretty bad with exposition so I don't know how well it would work. I feel a spin off movie focusing entirely on shadow would be better to explain his backstory.
@@basiltheleafeon You don't have to dedicate 10-15 minutes to a dead character to show how important they are to Shadow. Subtle mentions of her, a brief monologue/backstory, even having a scene of Shadow remembering her in silence for a moment by himself before something else happens. All can easily display how important Maria is to Shadow if done right.
I was surprised how much I liked the relationship between Sonic and Knuckles. The scene in Siberia where they realize that they both lost their families was really well done and more complex than I would have expected. Also the coffee shop being called “The mean bean” made me so happy.
For me the wedding scene is worth it just for the joke where it gets revealed that every single person there is a GUN agent. Easily the funniest joke in the movie, especially when the priest reveals that his Bible actually is a gun container. But yeah, definitely could chop some minutes off.
That, and even though I saw the "mixed up Sonic's ring for the wedding ring" gag coming a mile away, the payoff was still funny. Plus I was a little unfairly predisposed towards tolerating it because the whole time I was just thinking "Oh, my mom would really like this part". lol
'Operation Catfish' had me cracking up pretty good and while it did keep a little too long they at least tied everything up well enough. From the Doughnut Lord being made a pansy being explained by everyone being Gun Agents to the cleanup of the characters afterwards.
I think it's worth seeing Maddie break into the hotel to save Sonic, Tom, and Tails! That's pretty cool! Definitely does the whole "woman-doesn't-need-a-man" thing much better than Frozen ever did! Yeah, the wedding stuff could have been shorter, but still!
Knuckles punching the Master Emerald out of Robotnik was some quality lore consistency. I think the Chaos Emeralds kinda got sent to like the Special Stage dimension or whatever, separate from the Master Emerald.
But the chaos emeralds fused together to become the master emerald in this movie, and when it shatters, the 7 chaos emeralds are used for Sonic to turn super. while in the games the master emerald is the server to the 7 chaos emeralds, being seperate from each other.
@@RyneMcKinney yeah but you see knuckles rebuild what was left over. So it’s the remaining power that was left behind by the chaos emeralds. You even see the new one is much much smaller that the original one.
They did dragon ball away after the sonic turned off the super. I really enjoyed the nod to the Fleetway comics when Knuckles mentions a personality change that can come from the super form. The master emerald was more imbedded with the Chaos Emeralds instead of fusing. They fell out with the broken shards of the master emerald. Without them, the master emerald still holds some power but is no longer a one stop shop, bend the universe type. Now smaller and still holding a connection to the chaos emeralds... I kindof miss the retconned lore of the Archie comics and the interconnection between them but the movie did good with the intro to each.
Let me get this straight: You comment something that is unrelated to the fact that I have two HEAVENLY HANDSOME girlfriends? Considering that I am the unprettiest TH-camr ever, having two handsome girlfriends is really incredible. Yet you did not mention that at all. I am quite disappointed, dear jab
Actually the chaos emeralds did fly away dragon ball style. For a brief second you see them shoot away in the distance. The master emerald rebuilt by Knuckles from the remaining piece was clearly smaller than the one introduced meaning it lost the chaos emeralds inside.
I imagine since Shadow and presumably the Ark are gonna be part of the plot of Sonic 3 there'll be a hunt for the emeralds since they're needed for Chaos Control and crashing the Ark into earth
honestly, now that the 3rd movie is confirmed, that movie could totally bomb and id be fine, because shadow the fucking hedgehog being shown to a massive audience is such a fucking ludicrous thing that the achievement itself is enough to satisfy me. thats that kind of shit i could only dream about as a kid and now weve peaked
@@thedarklrd6714 True. Shadow is an extremely confused character right now, who knows how Sonic Movie 3 will choose to adapt him. Shadow fans should be especially worried, since Shadow's film portrayal will no doubt shape the character going forward.
Ah, a spoiler heavy video where I can finally expel a wall of thoughts: - Who the hell were the "human" characters who arrived at the Mushroom planet before Knuckles? - I liked the wedding scene (although I wish the banner behind the Tornado was on fire in the last shot because it was a dumpster-fire), but was GUNs plan really "Lets concoct a fake relationship which results in a marriage so we can catch Sonic...who isn't invited...wait." - The dance-off was of course for the kids but could have been a bit less...weird for the rest of us. - While I appreciate the sentiment, having Sonic call Tom "Dad" was rather strange (isn't it?!). I know there was the sub-plot of Sonic "being a kid" but...are Tails and Knuckles also their kids now? Sonic now has the squad, experienced god-powers and has a new big-bad coming in Shadow in S3. It felt a bit of a backwards step. And yes. Give us Live and Learn..please.
As far as G.U.N's master plan goes... I think it makes sense. It wasn't actually the plan to capture Sonic AT the wedding, instead they were planning on infiltration, getting an agent into the family who can supply information, and take opportunities to capture Sonic that wouldn't otherwise be available.
@@HellfireComms Alright, that probably could've been better explained in the movie, because not everyone will read the comic before hand. A tiny bit of exposition on that would've helped (unless I somehow missed that while watching).
Well the post credits scene confirms that Gerald's data and research was in their database for all that time before GUN was a thing. Makes sense as the government had ties with Eggman before Sonic 2
Can we agree that the best part of the film was Sonic and Tails' brotherly hug after the dance off in Siberia? Also, I enjoyed Knuckles' segments throughout the film (like the "Dot dot dot" scene and when he was enamored over sprinkles near the end).
The dance off scene was so stupid and unnecessary… but so damn entertaining that I didn’t care how goofy it was. Especially since Sonic does his Adventure 1 pose!
I definitely think it's possible that the novelization is based on an early draft since many other movie novelizations have several differences from the version that ends up on screen, likely because they are produced alongside the film so they don't have time to adjust for last minute changes to the film
Can you imagine if they didn't stray from Shadow's backstory in the games for the next one though? I would love to hear what reviewers think of Shadow being created as a result of fantasy AIDS research with the help from blood from an alien that wants to enslave humanity as a food source
@@Mugen2024 Neuro-Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or NIDS, is a fictional autoimmune disease that Maria Robotnik suffered from. The reason Prof. Gerald Robotnik agreed to work on Project Shadow was because he hoped that the research into immortality would lead to a cure. Shadow the Hedgehog was a bad game with some bad retcons to Shadow's origins, but to be honest his origins were already pretty fucked right from the start anyways.
@@jackpumpoen that's just because who honestly played Shadow the Hedgehog past the first few levels? and of that incredibly small group, who was really paying attention? no one
Regarding the soundtrack, it’s small, but “You Don’t Have To Be Alone Anymore” (the scene where sonic is drowning) has a *very* small drowning theme motif. I thought I noticed it in the movie but I had to double check the soundtrack to be sure, so it’s kinda hard to hear. It’s all that’s there, and it’s very small, but it *is* a musical nod I don’t feel should be ignored.
Let me just say, the entire theater I was in was screaming and cheering and the people in the row in front of me threw their popcorn bucket in the air when they saw Shadow in the post credits scene. It was a great experience.
Same here and that never happens in movies I go to. I was stoked and even better my 5 year old boy and all the other kids absolutely lost their minds with shadow it was awesome. Whole experience watching this movie was great for me. Excited for S3
I have a friend who knows absolutely nothing about Sonic, hadn't even seen the first movie and he enjoyed it, so we Sonic fans are not blinded by our fandom. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a legitimately good movie. and it was one heck of a fun ride too!
Yeah Sonic willingly forfeited them Tails: "Sonic, you were the most powerful hero in the universe, and you let it go... why?" Sonic: "well Tails its all part of the script, so that the next big villain in my third movie will be a challenge and the Chaos Emeralds won't make the movie too easy.
@@ryank2780 It does make sense why Sonic got rid of them, to be fair. He pretty much outright states that he doesn’t feel like he could handle that much power since he already knows very well that the power he ALREADY has is still something he has to control, lest he hurt people and destroy his surroundings.
this video capitulated my thoughts really well, glad somebody else noticed that ozzie(toms dog) was just left at the house for the entire events of the movie
One thing I like about the humor is how it's more separated from the action than in the first movie. Tense scenes actually have room to breathe and build up-like how the climax wouldn't have had the same 'heroes accept their death' moment if it was cluttered with 'Baldy McNosehair' quips every 2 seconds beforehand, and the jokes themselves also don't become stale as a result.
If I had to take a guess on Metal Sonic, I’m thinking that Eggman may get the idea of there being other Sonics to make his own Sonic in movie 4. Heck, from there you could outright replace Eggman with Neo Metal Sonic if Jim Carrey is truly done with acting.
Very good movie, although I am VERY excited to see what they'll do next. Didn't even realize in the moment about GUN until I heard it from someone a bit more knowledgeable about sonic than I am.
About the chaos emeralds they did fly off at the end of the movie when sonic returned back to normal actually, I understand how that could of been missed though they are realllly small.
I haven't seen it yet, but I will say it seems really cool and sweet how love by actual Sonic fans was poured into this film with all the references and such. That kind of passion is rare nowadays and I'm grateful for Sonic fans to enjoy it.
Im actually hoping that the Sonic movie Bonus video will come out even slower than this one. Im a patient boy and i can wait, yep i sure can wait. a whole 15 years, im that patient.
4:45 maybe in the third movie he'll go through the same arc he did in SA1 where he realizes that he can't depend on Sonic forever because nothing last forever yadayada Speaking of the third movie kinda wanted to share another random prediction maybe if Robotnik is killed off Agent Stone will fill in his shoes and discover/team up with Shadow.
I think they're working towards Tails becoming more independent. There were a ton of scenes where Tails basically needs to make excuses for Sonic to maintain his own view of him. He's eventually going to gain self-confidence and no longer need to hold Sonic in such high regard.
I definitely think they left it open for him to die or not because of what Jim Carrie said about retiring. I love the idea of Agent Stone taking over his role to get revenge for his death, and it would pair well with Shadow's revenge for Maria. I just hope they get Shadow right...
@@Olivia-dg4fb i believe if they got Knux and Tails right, i bet they will be able with Shadow aswell although...i see your concern. Shadow has become a joke at this point. A walking edgelord. And while he was edgy before, he was mainly a misguided tragic character when was first introduced
Me too! Also, I didn't realize until that same scene the reference that The Mean Bean was making, how could I forget about Robotniks Mean Bean Machine!
Alright, the wedding scenes went on for maybe a bit too long, but man, her husband being a secret agent that wasn't even supposed to marry her came so far out of left field that it had me laughing out loud. As if she hadn't been messed up from sonic enough, a secret agent infiltrates her life, seemingly for no reason so that they can get closer to sonic. It's honestly so nonsensical and absurd that it was genuinely the funniest part of the movie for me. (side note, knuckles really just felt like off-brand Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy.
I saw the movie with my mom and as someone who isn't familiar with Sonic lore, she said the same thing. I still think a Drax-esque Knuckles is better than anything they've done with his character in the last decade, Knuckles was always meant to be a meathead jock but with a strong sense of responsibility/honor. I'm really glad he wasn't just a bumbling idiot, most of the comedy came from his innocence/ignorance of things rather than just plain low intelligence.
its mostly the most basic stuff that i laughed at in that movie. example: knuckles saying dot dot dot over and over again was the most hilarious stuff i've ever seen
honestly me too, i haven’t been able to stop thinking about the “they have sprinkles” thing knuckles said. i was laughing uncontrollably through the credits at that shit
I think i know why the emeralds are tiny.. Its because the master emerald is also MEGA tiny than the game master emerald So it would make sense the chaos emerald are and would be also smaller than the game emeralds. remember this is the movie continuity. yes it does follow the games but not the story or its OWN canon.
True but if you look at the games, sega is not great at emerald continuity. Look at the master emerald’s size in SA1 as apposed to 2. And of course they changed from hex cut to the more standard cut we see today.
Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t follow up on Robotnik having Sonic’s quill as a Segway into making Metal. Dunno what he’s going to do with it in the future if at all but just seemed strange they didn’t do that.
The movie brought back the stoic warrior Knuckles after almost 2 decades of mishandling him, I’m confident they can do Shadow justice too I like Metal Sonic, but I think the IDW comics have done him justice whereas Shadow’s essentially a parody of himself
I gotta say that my favourite scene in the movie was when they were panning out from the Sega logo and you could see that in one of the small squares there was persona 5 footage.
Just saw this movie tonight myself. Knuckles is definitely the highlight of the whole thing - he's bigger and better than he has been for years. We even took a non Sonic fan to see it, and she enjoyed it pretty well too - even agreed that Knuckles was the best part and that the human parts were the weakest part of the movie.
I think Metal Sonic is going to replace Robotnik and serve as the primary threat of the next movie, and Shadow is going to work more like Knuckles did in this one. I want to say that Robotnik is dead, and his assistant is uploading his brain into the robot to get back at Sonic. Final boss is gonna be Metal Sonic with all the chaos emeralds like Sonic Heroes, filling in for Chaos or the Bio Lizard.
@@gigastrike2 The main issue with that might be that Robotnik just hasn't had time to build anything inbetween the 1st and 2nd movie, like if we are getting Metal then he either won't be made by Robotnik or has to be created off-screen somehow. That is, if Jim Carrey doesn't return for the third one like he has said.
Actually you gave me idea. Maybe a little redemption after the whole Forces fiasco, in form of Chaos and Metal Sonic coming back alongside Shadow? I mean it feels like the next logical step for them to base the third movie off the elements of both Adventure games, since this one was based a lot on the second and third game. I would love this interesting combo of 3 villains trying to take down Sonic.
I was the only one in the theater laughing at how Stone's coffee shop was called "Mean Bean" xD I also really liked how Knuckles was portrayed, he was a good mix of Sonic Boom goofy Knuckles and the more serious, classic Knuckles.
6:40 it was neat hearing the "Drowning theme" though it was very faint, you can hear it in the song that plays when Sonic is stuck in the water after he frees Knuckles
The GUN commander is my favorite character and you can’t change my mind. Agent Stone is also amazing. The writers feel like they’re on crack when writing these borderline animated humans. The movie is at its best when it tries not to be grounded
I don't think it's much of a concern that the movies are skipping over some characters. In my mind, there really isn't much reason that they can't just introduce certain characters out of order. The movies have their own separate continuity, so they can be pretty loose with the lore.
I'm a huge lore nerd, and I'll be honest - these changes needed to have been made, I think. The Sonic lore is disjointed and thematically broken, and I'm shocked they were able to bend it over backwards to not only improve it, but to make a great kid's movie out of it. I'm a little suspicious that this is what the canon should have been all along, and I'm shocked that I actually typed that given how I felt before the first movie released lol
I know what you mean. It would like to have Amy, Big, and Rouge in the films because I like those characters, but I understand that they might be hard sells to people not as familiar with the Sonic games. Especially Rouge and her big fat bat tats lol
The theory that COMMANDER OLIVE GARDEN knew about the event in the post credits because *he witnessed it firsthand* is the wildest most batshit twist I would’ve never have guessed this time two years ago.
It's still insane to me that both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 have released with ZERO GAMES to back them up. Nothing recent that people can go and play after all this movie hype!! it feels like wasting the potential to bring new people into the franchise and not just please pre-existing fans. Also great review, I totally loved it as well!
Part of me is assuming Stone is being set up to replace Robotnik in some way, Jim Carrey said it would be his last film and the end sequence definitely tried to make it look like robotnik isn't coming back
I would love a video about all the easter eggs about the movie! while i was watching it i loved all the references i could see, like the genesis manual, the labyrinth waterslide, and the adventure pose at the start. Plus when I saw G.U.N. i freaked out and immidietly knew that the 3rd had to have shadow. I wish they had some fun music fpr labyrinth zone and the death egg, but overall i enjoyed it a lot!
Here's an idea that a friend told me after watching the movie with him: What if in the third movie, Shadow gets a big villain focus, but also Metal Sonic and even Chaos appear alongside him; and the movie could even be called "Sonic 3: Triple Trouble" or something like that.
I feel like they should just stick to adapting the Maria/Gerald Robotnik plot line, Chaos and Tikal would kinda need to have their own plot focused on them, I think that Metal Sonic could potentially fit in but the Shadow backstory is already plenty to work with
Went absolutely crazy for the post-credits with Shadow, literally started screaming when I saw that! I was that one person in the cinema that would just explain every reference to my friend. Seeing this movie was such an honor, one of my current favourite movies.
you know if they're going to do a knuckles series, i do feel that maybe that could be a good time to introduce metal sonic, taking inspiration from the knuckles chaotix plot and whatnot
There are numerous ways they can handle Maria's death, it wouldn't be the first kids movie where an innocent character dies, in fact I think it's only in Shadow's game where she is explicitly shot. They can write around it saying she succumbed to her illness because she wasn't properly treated after she and the rest of the space colony staff were arrested by the military, then it's still their fault in some way. As long as they stay true to what makes Shadow's character arc compelling I'm sure it will be a good adaptation, that being: -His sibling-like relationship with Maria -The pain of losing her due to the actions of humans -Recognising that revenge isn't the answer -Redeeming himself with a heroic sacrifice that ends in his death Personally I'm hoping we at least get two super sayain hedgehogs fighting a giant lizard in space while Live and Learn plays, it's too good of a set piece not to put on the big screen.
I went with a friend of mine who isn't really into Sonic and he wasn't super into it. I owe him an explanation for why Shadow being in the next film is such a big deal.
Same I went with a friend who didn’t know much about Sonic too, he sounded like he liked it but looked pretty tired by the time of the credits scene. We did see the movie at a late time of the day though so maybe that’s why
I am not a big Sonic fan, and the movie got a big "eh" from me. I liked robotnik's performance in Sonic movie 1, so the way smaller screentime for robotnik (at least it felt like it) in the sequel was a letdown. Jim Carrey clearly had no energy in his performance, and him announcing that he's likely retiring from acting after this movie is a big hint. Also, Knuckles felt like a low-intelligence 1 dimensional "me like honor, me must kill you, wait you save me me help you" grug caveman. CGI felt rushed, and the sequel just reused assets from the first movie.
I loved the movie so much. Seeing that scene where Sonic, Tails and Knuckles all teamed up for the first time to fight the Death Egg robot was the best thing I've ever seen. I adore Sonic Heroes and that's the first thing that came to mind. And Super Sonic near the end was just amazing. I do wish they could have some songs/remixes from the games instead of just some generic fight music, but I understand why they don't use them.
i love tails' backstory being told instead of shown is a legitimate complaint that i actually agree with now that it's been brought up, and then he immediately follows it up with "we could've had a scene of tails getting trolled"
7:27 I also felt the same until I remembered that Chaos and Tikal were trapped in the Master Emerald, so it was established in the lore that you can store beings, spirits and what not within it.
Also, I would've loved seeing Metal Sonic in the third movie rather than you know who, but I won't deny I still smiled at it and I am extremely curious to see how they will handle him, it is just I would've prefered Metal to close this trilogy and maybe later make a second trilogy covering the events from SA1, SA2 and maybe the Advance games.
@@FindingsOfAnArmouredMind i guess the problem is that metal doesn't have much story? in a way he was never the final boss (except in heroes) so having him as a main villain is kinda.... meh?
He does have a story tho. He was built in order to rival Sonic and, unlike all other Eggman's creations, he had a will of his own, which makes him stronger as he learns. He is a killing machine that's almost sentient. Sonic CD the Sonic OVA, the Archie comics and what not (Hell, he's a boss in Knuckles Chaotix too) are all yoi need to flesh it out.
Pretty quick upload since the last video, but I really liked the amount of references there were in the new Sonic movie. I also liked the addition of G.U.N., something I was not expecting, and it was nice to see them again, because I last saw them in Sonic Generations and then never again after that. Overall it’s an amazing movie.
I love Tails’s design so much he’s so Damn cute. My biggest problem though is that they treat the master emerald like the phantom ruby. It can kind of do what ever it wants when Egg man uses it.
I'm glad everyone's down with the whole music thing. The fact that we didn't get _Be Cool, Be Wild and Be Groovy_ during what is BASICALLY a 1:1 scene for that level is criminal, and that's just one example!
There was a part where Eggman and Knuckles were talking about something and one of them said “I’ll show you the way” That was a CLEAR reference to Ugandan Knuckles and I haven’t really hard anyone else mention that.
I'll be honest, I had an extreamly surface level knowledge of sonic. My only context really was a couple memes and a toxic fanbase. I hadn't even seen the first one, but this movie was still an absolute blast to watch and is kickstarting some motivation to start learning about the lore from the games! I'm old enough to be a college student and this movie really made me feel like a kid again! This should be a testimate to how good the studio was able to make this so enjoyable, even to non-fans like myself!
Judging by the post credits scene and the fact that Jim Carrey might retire and they said they won't recast him, I'm gonna bet that Stone will be the main villain of Sonic 3, and his arc is gonna be accepting that Robotnik is gone and that he can't keep wasting his energy on someone who never cared for him in return. 9:40 also, I'm someone who hates almost every sonic game that isn't Mean Bean Machine, but I loved both movies. This one specifically was super fun.
Please do a breakdown of all the Easter eggs you’re the only person who could do it right! Like when eggman said “I’ll show you the way” I lost my shit

But other than that it was a pretty fun time and I'm interested in seeing what they do with Shadow.

Never was really into the sonic games but this was a pretty good movie! So I will probably play the original sonic games again and also watch the first movie cause why not.
A deeper look at all the references and more digested thoughts on the movie. So what you're saying is we should expect some kind of "Sonic 2 bonus video"?
Considering how much Knuckles is written like Worf here, I expect the third movie to be about his spine being broken by a blue barrel and the main characters debating over whether or not they'll euthanize him.
I think the third film might be sonic being framed by gun, because of shadow and agent stone working together, sonic gets prisoned and free’d by tails and knuckles, eggman finds out about shadow and ditches stone again, possibly causing stone to turn against eggman, creating metal sonic, then sonic and shadow fight and finally fight, become friends and eventually fight eggman and after, beating metal together with the power of chaos emeralds
What you were calling Laberynth zone is what I thought was meant to be Hidden Palace zone. For one, it was litterally a hidden palace and it had the master emerald inside. Also, in the movie they made a joke by calling it “secret temple”, a joke about the name hidden palace.

Unwatchable! 0/10
Needed to wait until the 3rd movie so Shadow can show Tails how to deal with them trolls
maybe its in the snyder cut
Because of this this movie has turned from best sonic movie to Unwatchable
Jeff Fowler showed up at my screening after the movie, and though he didn’t confirm anything, when he asked the audience who they were expecting in the post credit scene he specifically asked “Metal Sonic?” So it’s for sure something that is on his radar

Metal Sonic will probably be at the end of the 3rd movie.

The priest having a gun in the bible was one of the funniest scenes in the movie
@@rosesvampyr it ain’t a theory you can literally see for a second seven lights shoot up in different directions
@@RyneMcKinney yeah but you see knuckles rebuild what was left over. So it’s the remaining power that was left behind by the chaos emeralds. You even see the new one is much much smaller that the original one.
Sonic scatters them when he reverts to normal so they now exist as separate entities
I really liked the 2nd movie, the addition of Knuckles and Tails really helped flesh out Sonic's character.
Yeah
Let me get this straight: You comment something that is unrelated to the fact that I have two HEAVENLY HANDSOME girlfriends? Considering that I am the unprettiest TH-camr ever, having two handsome girlfriends is really incredible. Yet you did not mention that at all. I am quite disappointed, dear jab
It would of been better if it was fully animated. And more sonic characters.

I'm inside of your home
honestly, now that the 3rd movie is confirmed, that movie could totally bomb and id be fine, because shadow the fucking hedgehog being shown to a massive audience is such a fucking ludicrous thing that the achievement itself is enough to satisfy me. thats that kind of shit i could only dream about as a kid and now weve peaked

True. Shadow is an extremely confused character right now, who knows how Sonic Movie 3 will choose to adapt him.
Shadow fans should be especially worried, since Shadow's film portrayal will no doubt shape the character going forward.
Ah, a spoiler heavy video where I can finally expel a wall of thoughts:
- Who the hell were the "human" characters who arrived at the Mushroom planet before Knuckles?
- I liked the wedding scene (although I wish the banner behind the Tornado was on fire in the last shot because it was a dumpster-fire), but was GUNs plan really "Lets concoct a fake relationship which results in a marriage so we can catch Sonic...who isn't invited...wait."
- The dance-off was of course for the kids but could have been a bit less...weird for the rest of us.
Those "humans" were hunters that helped Knuckles track down Sonic. They're part of the prequel comic for the movie.
@@HellfireComms Ooh. Thanks! I'm yet to read those.
It makes sense that Sonic calls Tom his dad, because this is a movie for children, and movies for children are all about having a kid protagonist
It's super interesting that GUN was only founded recently in the movie and not 50+ years ago.
Maybe they rebranded?
I think they said they found Shadow’s files in Robotnik’s own
Well the post credits scene confirms that Gerald's data and research was in their database for all that time before GUN was a thing. Makes sense as the government had ties with Eggman before Sonic 2
Maybe there was another three letter agency back then that morphed into GUN
Movie's changing a lot of stuff and somehow making it work perfectly.
Can we agree that the best part of the film was Sonic and Tails' brotherly hug after the dance off in Siberia? Also, I enjoyed Knuckles' segments throughout the film (like the "Dot dot dot" scene and when he was enamored over sprinkles near the end).
The part where Sonic puts a blanket on Tails and then Tails covers him up with his Tails got me good man
I was dreading that dance-off scene but it actually turned out pretty well.
The dance off scene was so stupid and unnecessary… but so damn entertaining that I didn’t care how goofy it was. Especially since Sonic does his Adventure 1 pose!
@@ruthie4197 YASSS! That part was so good. I loved the brotherly fluff!
omg that was a so wholesome brotherly scene like it was so cute
I definitely think it's possible that the novelization is based on an early draft since many other movie novelizations have several differences from the version that ends up on screen, likely because they are produced alongside the film so they don't have time to adjust for last minute changes to the film
cant wait for the third movie
The novelisation has Professor Pickle show up, which does NOT happen in the final film. Definitely an earlier draft.

Oh so they DID have one. I was listening for it! And the air bubble was a nice nod too
Let me just say, the entire theater I was in was screaming and cheering and the people in the row in front of me threw their popcorn bucket in the air when they saw Shadow in the post credits scene. It was a great experience.
Something similar happened with my viewing yesterday. Was a good time.

The Chaos Emeralds did actually fly off after Sonic powered down.
So maybe finding them'll be important for movie 3.
It would give them a reason to find them or if Shadow finds one and start using Chaos Control over Sonic would be badass
Yeah Sonic willingly forfeited them
Tails: "Sonic, you were the most powerful hero in the universe, and you let it go... why?"
Sonic: "well Tails its all part of the script, so that the next big villain in my third movie will be a challenge and the Chaos Emeralds won't make the movie too easy.
@@ryank2780 It does make sense why Sonic got rid of them, to be fair. I wish they brought it up at least.

It's a small town. I'm sure the neighbors saw that the house was ransacked and brought the dog into their home.
(Capitulated your thoughts?)
@@gigastrike2 very much so
I think you meant 'encapsulated' rather than capitulated.
I love how Sonic went from telling Tom to stop being his dad to openly embracing being his adopted son. So good.
If I had to take a guess on Metal Sonic, I’m thinking that Eggman may get the idea of there being other Sonics to make his own Sonic in movie 4. Heck, from there you could outright replace Eggman with Neo Metal Sonic if Jim Carrey is truly done with acting.
Yeah I could see them going a sonic hero’s route with metal sonic being the villain if Jim retires
Very good movie, although I am VERY excited to see what they'll do next. Didn't even realize in the moment about GUN until I heard it from someone a bit more knowledgeable about sonic than I am.

Glad Cyber can make sequels, although this one came kinda slowly. Boy, I can't ever recall a time where he made any of his sequels this slowly. Hm.

hmm..
4:45 maybe in the third movie he'll go through the same arc he did in SA1 where he realizes that he can't depend on Sonic forever because nothing last forever yadayada
Speaking of the third movie kinda wanted to share another random prediction maybe if Robotnik is killed off Agent Stone will fill in his shoes and discover/team up with Shadow.
@@Olivia-dg4fb i believe if they got Knux and Tails right, i bet they will be able with Shadow aswell
although...i see your concern. Shadow has become a joke at this point. A walking edgelord. And while he was edgy before, he was mainly a misguided tragic character when was first introduced
I hope Robotnik is alive in the next one, he's definitely one of the highlights for both of the movies
Anyone else who thought Eggman was about to say “Welcome to the next level” outside of the Mean Bean?

Just watched it and it was really good imo. The only thing that felt kind of strange was the chaos emeralds being so small
I think i know why the emeralds are tiny..
Its because the master emerald is also MEGA tiny than the game master emerald
So it would make sense the chaos emerald are and would be also smaller than the game emeralds.
remember this is the movie continuity.
yes it does follow the games but not the story or its OWN canon.
True but if you look at the games, sega is not great at emerald continuity. Look at the master emerald’s size in SA1 as apposed to 2. And of course they changed from hex cut to the more standard cut we see today.
They're also tiny in Unleashed
The Emeralds look like candy you'd pop in your mouth lol or some weird cereal brand.

Frankly, I’m surprised they didn’t follow up on Robotnik having Sonic’s quill as a Segway into making Metal. Dunno what he’s going to do with it in the future if at all but just seemed strange they didn’t do that.
As much as I would love Metal in 3 you are correct. We have the OVA. Time to put some character back into Shadow.

Write my boy correctly! Not this awful edge lord.
The movie brought back the stoic warrior Knuckles after almost 2 decades of mishandling him, I’m confident they can do Shadow justice too

I LITERALLY JUST FINISHED THE MOVIE AND THIS IS ALREADY OUT DADDY CYBERSHELL PLEASE THIS IS TOO MUCH.
I felt like a kid again throughout the whole movie.
If this went out when I was like 9-10, my mind would've exploded into tiny pieces.
I enjoyed this movie, but I can’t be the only one who was a bit upset that Shadow was confirmed for the Sonic Movie Series before Metal Sonic, right?
That is, if Jim Carrey doesn't return for the third one like he has said.
isn't shadow like the most popular sonic character
Actually you gave me idea. Maybe a little redemption after the whole Forces fiasco, in form of Chaos and Metal Sonic coming back alongside Shadow? I mean it feels like the next logical step for them to base the third movie off the elements of both Adventure games, since this one was based a lot on the second and third game. I would love this interesting combo of 3 villains trying to take down Sonic.
@@simmy0019 Yeah, idk. Maybe his brain gets uploaded to a computer first and he builds the robot body to inhabit.
I was the only one in the theater laughing at how Stone's coffee shop was called "Mean Bean" xD
I also really liked how Knuckles was portrayed, he was a good mix of Sonic Boom goofy Knuckles and the more serious, classic Knuckles.
sonic preparing while "it's tricky" was playing is pretty rad imo
6:40 it was neat hearing the "Drowning theme" though it was very faint, you can hear it in the song that plays when Sonic is stuck in the water after he frees Knuckles
The dog was the one who released Shadow, calling it now.
Sega disowned the movie so that is probably why. the closest to game tie-ins are a crossover with mobile trash.
"we were denied a scene of tails literally getting trolled" is the funniest thing that could have possibly been said in a review of this movie
Part of me is assuming Stone is being set up to replace Robotnik in some way, Jim Carrey said it would be his last film and the end sequence definitely tried to make it look like robotnik isn't coming back
I LOVE how the first complain in this video about the movie was about the hecking dog. That’s just so funny.
Seeing Knuckles' movie design next to his game design made realize that I actually think the movie design looks way better.
Just got out of my second showing of the film, definitely a fun time from start to end .
I wish they had some fun music fpr labyrinth zone and the death egg, but overall i enjoyed it a lot!
just had a legit "oh shit" moment when u brought up the neat babylonian text reference and I remembered long claw was a fuckin bird like them.
Here's an idea that a friend told me after watching the movie with him:
What if in the third movie, Shadow gets a big villain focus, but also Metal Sonic and even Chaos appear alongside him; and the movie could even be called "Sonic 3: Triple Trouble" or something like that.
And then knack the weasel shows up
I feel like they should just stick to adapting the Maria/Gerald Robotnik plot line, Chaos and Tikal would kinda need to have their own plot focused on them, I think that Metal Sonic could potentially fit in but the Shadow backstory is already plenty to work with
Went absolutely crazy for the post-credits with Shadow, literally started screaming when I saw that!
The love that the GUN helicopter Tom and the crew arrive in to the climax fight, is SA-2. Has to be a reference to Sonic Adventure 2
We are witnessing history two cybershell uploads in one month.
As long as they stay true to what makes Shadow's character arc compelling I'm sure it will be a good adaptation, that being:
-His sibling-like relationship with Maria
-The pain of losing her due to the actions of humans
-Recognising that revenge isn't the answer
-Redeeming himself with a heroic sacrifice that ends in his death
Personally I'm hoping we at least get two super sayain hedgehogs fighting a giant lizard in space while Live and Learn plays, it's too good of a set piece not to put on the big screen.
4:13 Omg an actual nitpick that makes sense
Even critics can’t do that
One somewhat subtle reference to the post credits scene I really liked, was that the G.U.N. commanders helicopter serial number was SA-2.
Not too surprising as if you aren't a sonic fan you are left with a mediocre about a talking anthro.
CGI felt rushed, and the sequel just reused assets from the first movie.
i went with a friend who also isnt a big fan but she seemed to have enjoyed the movie so idk 💀
I do wish they could have some songs/remixes from the games instead of just some generic fight music, but I understand why they don't use them.
really hoping metal sonic gets to be in the knuckles show thru some type of chaotix plotline, I gotta see my boy fully realized in this artstyle
Hey cybershell - I'd love to hear that breakdown of all the tiny references in the film
If live and learn shows up in the next movie it will be the best movie of this decade
I don't even like most Crush 40 music but if Live and Learn isn't in Sonic 3 I'll riot
i love tails' backstory being told instead of shown is a legitimate complaint that i actually agree with now that it's been brought up, and then he immediately follows it up with "we could've had a scene of tails getting trolled"
Sonic CD the Sonic OVA, the Archie comics and what not (Hell, he's a boss in Knuckles Chaotix too) are all yoi need to flesh it out.
ngl I would love to see you comb through sonic 2 pointing out references
Dang he wasn’t kidding. He really did put out a video explaining his thoughts soon after the movie comes out
I still love how they named the cafe “Mean Bean”
Pretty quick upload since the last video, but I really liked the amount of references there were in the new Sonic movie. I also liked the addition of G.U.N., something I was not expecting, and it was nice to see them again, because I last saw them in Sonic Generations and then never again after that. Overall it’s an amazing movie.
I love Tails’s design so much he’s so Damn cute.
My biggest problem though is that they treat the master emerald like the phantom ruby. It can kind of do what ever it wants when Egg man uses it.
There was some hardcore sonic fans in front of my seat when I watched it and they were yelling as soon shadow showed up
I think it would be pretty damn sick to hear some of your more in-depth thoughts or talk about references Cybershell.
Knuckles had such a good portrayal it really felt like his original self from sonic 3K
I'm glad everyone's down with the whole music thing. The fact that we didn't get _Be Cool, Be Wild and Be Groovy_ during what is BASICALLY a 1:1 scene for that level is criminal, and that's just one example!
There was a part where Eggman and Knuckles were talking about something and one of them said “I’ll show you the way”
That was a CLEAR reference to Ugandan Knuckles and I haven’t really hard anyone else mention that.
I forgot about this channel, but every upload is absolute hype.
I personally would've loved to have heard Be Cool Be Wild Be Groovy (SA1's ice cap theme) when sonic was snowboarding
The cafe that was in the movie was called the mean bean btw
Please do a breakdown of all the Easter eggs you’re the only person who could do it right! Like when eggman said “I’ll show you the way” I lost my shit
Can't watch this since I haven't seen the movie but I'm glad it has the Cybershell seal of approval
Edit and spoilers: Just watched the movie and I thought it was pretty alright, better than the first but didn't blow my mind or anything. Was pretty disappointed we didn't get to see Angel Island and the Hawaii portion of the movie was so bland and uninteresting and just reminded me of an average adam sandler movie. But other than that it was a pretty fun time and I'm interested in seeing what they do with Shadow.
Make an Easter egg video please I usually don’t ask for these things but I’ve been watching you for so long I came back to watch all your videos again when you died for three years. You are the most qualified person to do it.
Never was really into the sonic games but this was a pretty good movie! So I will probably play the original sonic games again and also watch the first movie cause why not.
Can't wait for the Sonic Movie 2 bonus video.
A deeper look at all the references and more digested thoughts on the movie. So what you're saying is we should expect some kind of "Sonic 2 bonus video"?
I did not think cybershell would make a video on sonic 2 this quick. I wasnt expecting sonic 2 bonus video gap of time, but definitely not this early.
Everytime Knuckles said something I had a smile on my face. He was so well done I absolutely loved him.
What you were calling Laberynth zone is what I thought was meant to be Hidden Palace zone. For one, it was litterally a hidden palace and it had the master emerald inside. Also, in the movie they made a joke by calling it “secret temple”, a joke about the name hidden palace.
I liked it, only part I didn't like about it is the wedding.
Knuckles is the best part about it.
The chaos emeralds did fly away after sonic powered down, it’s a blink and miss it when they shoot out of his body and into the sky
Finally the lord is back, it been days!!
Yo man I hope he sticks AROUND THIS TIME
