I just hope the next movie pays some respect to the game music. Sonic 2 had a small reference of the drowning theme and that’s about it. I’d better be jammin’ to Crush 40 during Sonic 3.
For the record, the "Thoughts into reality" thing is taken from Adventure 1 and 2 (reworded later in the movie more accurately), that the Master Emerald can turns thoughts into power.
For my theater experience, the biggest cheers were for two moments in particular: Super sonic and Shadow. For the super sonic reveal, everyone legit cheered and clapped, as soon as we saw the emeralds spin towards sonic, we knew what was coming next, so it was a premature reaction. What was funny about my theater reaction was that as soon as the words "50 years" was said, the older members of the audience started getting vocal right off the bat. Then the slow body shot came up, and all the kids were saying shadow's name, and the adults were freaking out. Taking my 10 year old little brother to see this movie so we can have that moment is definitely something I will hold in my chest that we shared as sonic fans from two different generations.
I watched it with my girlfriend and we saw a kid rise there Super Sonic plush in the air Yet when my brother watched it, he heard a kid yell out "ITS GOLDEN SONIC" lmao
When Knuckles' backstory was being showcased in the movie; i remember screaming out "GET BENT KEN PENDERS" and someone in the theater responded to me and said "YEAH YOU SAID IT!". All that did was make me think "Oh god someone else knows who that is!" But it was a fun moment when seeing this film!
@MoloTurbo actually, he didn't win. Someone dug up the case files, and it's just a stalemate that led to an out of court settlement, from what I understand. Should be able to find it on Twitter. Ken has just been on so much copium it genuinely amazes me he's kept up the act for so long.
Was an honor to get to meet you at the premiere! This movie truly felt like it has fully embraced Sonic whereas the first one was a buddy cop movie with Sonic in it. I cannot wait to see how much more they push things with the 3rd movie.
The highlight of the movie for me was easily Shadow’s big reveal. As soon as the women said “50 years”, me & my younger sister(we’re both HUGE Sonic fans) knew exactly what was coming & started whispering “No” in disbelief. Anyone who was already leaving the theater stopped dead in their tracks to watch. As soon as the tank came up, some guys in front of us started cursing and cheering, & soon the entire theater exploded in applause & squeals, even little kids. I could barely form words in my mouth because I was screaming so much, & my sister kept shouting “IT’S HIM!” We both left the theater shaking. As corny as it sounds, this was honestly one of my favorite movie theater experiences ever.
Just saw the movie today with a good friend of mine. When the sprite art credits (which were gorgeous btw) started to roll, my friend jokingly said "and now we wait for the teaser for the next film where they reveal shadow". Needless to say, when the woman said "50 years", we laughed our asses off.
Some points: 1. The quill is in Eggman's hand for quite a few scenes after going back to earth all the way until he gets the Emerald. 2. Knuckles DOES glide, a lot, they just made it look like a super charged midair dash. He does it notably chasing the car and also in the ruins fight against Sonic. 3. Fairly positive the next movie will likely mix Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I would NOT be surprised if Sonic is being framed by Metal Sonic next time, and Shadow is more of an enigma.
@@sentientmustache8360 i am more along the lines of Metal Sonic cause, if they are going to use Chaos as the final villain that's going to be ALOT of CGI especially if they have Chaos become Perfect Chaos
I went to the theater with a bunch of friends, but only a few of us truly love Sonic. But boy, when the emeralds fell out of the shards and the GUN agent said "50 years", we all looked at each other because we knew what was coming. The fan service this movie provided was unbelievable. I hope they can keep that hype going.
My gf got spoiled about the credit scene and asked me beforehand not to get too loud. _Very_ good warning because hooooooh I was ready to lose my voice
I appreciate how, during the bar scene, you can see Tails having a sort-of ptsd flashback when the patrons were calling the 2 freaks. It's subtle but a great thing for Tails' characterization. Also, when Shadow showed up, my theater errupted with cheers and applause
When Knuckles was explaining his backstory he got a flashback but Tails didn’t. I would’ve loved to see this Village Tails lived in and all those mean bullies who bullied him so it would add more to how he became what he is.
@@brandonwilliams6119 me too. hopefully i hope i could see more movie sonic media showing us a bit of more detailed backstory for tails. and how he knew of knuckles. how his village knew about sonic. and where did he even come from
Why do you think "Operation Catfish" was attempting to get an agent to marry Maddie's sister? It was to get somebody from the government into Sonic's circle and to capture him when his guard was down. Sonic crashing the wedding just expedited things and I don't think they were banking on Sonic directly showing up there (even if they did prepare for it). I get that they should have clearly explained this, but I definitely wasn't as confused on this matter as you were.
Yeah I feel the same. Like, the two cages could easily have been because they had one backup, which is exactly the kind of thing an organization like this would do. And I would assume that they'd "make traps" out of a number of things the two would do together that might have Tom and Maddie themselves nearby, knowing that where Tom and Maddie are, Sonic would follow. The wedding crashing was just really really good timing, and really good banking on Sonic's following of Tom, trouble's following of Sonic.
It's how much respect they're treating the video game lore and effects that makes the movie for me. From G.U.N. and Shadow to something as small as Knuckles asking for grapes. (Seriously they referenced a random fact from the Sonic 3 instruction booklet that I haven't thought about in decades) .
Honestly I think G.U.N. was handled very poorly. They came right the heck out of nowhere and everything involving that particular subplot just could have been completely cut out and wouldn't have affected the story at all. Seriously that entire segment could have been replaced with them taking Tails to the hospital and shaved off a good chunk of the movie's run time. Plus it's just plain stupid That G.U.N. of all things wasn't allowed to have actual guns. They should have been saved for a later film.
@@dustinvance243 can't say they came out of nowhere. It's true that the whole Operation Catfish was needlessly overcomplicated (and a total dick move to someone who hasn't done anything wrong enough to warrant that level of ruination) the reason they gave for G.U.N. forming makes enough sense. Also don't forget that G.U.N. just shows up out of nowhere in SA2 as an antagonistic force with even less explanation than in the movie. And we as an audience just rolled with it
@@CryoJnik yes, but it makes literally no sense for them to be in the movie at all. They should have been saved for the mid credit scene when they revealed project shadow. They grind the pacing to a complete halt. Plus it's shot poorly to. Remember that scene where the bride walks out of the golf cart and how they focused on her heeled shoe? Well in the next scene after that you can clearly see she's wearing sneakers. The whole segment with G.U.N should have just been cut out.
I took my 4 year old nephew to see this movie opening night. It was his first time at a movie theater and he already loved Sonic before, and he loved every second of this movie. As a 22 year old who grew up in the GameCube era playing the Adventure/Heroes games as well as the old school games with the Mega Collection, this movie made me really happy. The coolest part was hearing little kids who weren’t even born when I was playing these games, and adults who played Sonic back in the Genesis days get excited over certain scenes really made it worth it. This was my first time at a movie theater since before the pandemic and it really reminded me how much I miss the experience, especially about something like Sonic that I’ve loved basically my whole life.
As an usher who's already got to see it at an early employee screening, it's always so fun to see true Sonic fans freak out the mid-credits scene on some days! A close friend/former crew even screamed his ass off for that mid-credits because he's such a fan of that character!
I also work as an usher, and I love to take Sonic movies and go in a few minutes before the credits in order to see their reactions to Shadow, it's so great
As polite as it is, I love how VAGUE everyone is being about the "mystery" character at the end as though we ALL don't know who it's gonna inevitably be.....I mean they already put Knuckles and Tails in, WHO ELSE could possibly bring in money for a sequel? Big the Cat? I don't think so.
@@franktruth9639 the only member left of what I think is the main group is Amy, and she’s never been the most popular character in any sonic game. Though I think more sonic fans would want to see Blaze or even Rogue if we have to have a female character showing up
@@franktruth9639 I mean like Johnny, I was fully expecting Metal to be the next big hook. So you can imagine my "SA2 was first Sonic game" shock when I heard the words "50 years ago".
Yes and no, they have been established to be able to bend space time throughout the games but they've never been able to create things out of nothing like Super Sonic is shown to do with a chilly dog after he defeats Eggman (yes i'm aware they could grant wishes in the Archie comics, but they were never able to do that in the games).
I avoided all social media a week before the premiere, and man…it was worth it. As soon as my friend and I heard “50 years ago” we just lost it, we screamed and cheered when shadow was revealed. Our audience also clapped and cheered when Super Sonic came up too. Best theater experience I’ve ever had!
I can't forget my reaction to that end credit scene. They said 50 years and I immediately knew what was going on. Since I was already standing up I just started yelling "NO! NO WAY!" and then they showed him and I remember having a hard time breathing.
@@theunknown0887 I only remembered because I was recently play sonic adventure 2 and it just reminded me of knuckles finding the shards and I was like oh wow that’s actually sick! If it wasn’t fresh in my mind I wouldn’t of realized it haha
This movie was a HUGE improvement over the first one by a LONG shot! Everything was done right here. Lots of heart, humor, cheesiness and lots of other traits that defines Sonic. Absolutely beautiful! And that post credits scene? OMG! I’m hyped for Sonic 3!
Honestly, I loved it when I watched it in the theater there was a lot of excitement coming from me at the time. Now a few days later I can't help but choke up with emotions and even kinda get teary eyed whenever I think about certain scenes. Child me would've LOVED seeing Super Sonic on the big screen, they would've loved seeing the main trio fight together like that and I know for a fact that 12 year old me would've gone insane from seeing the after credit scene. I'm just so happy that I got the opportunity to see this movie actually happen.
Same here! Haven't had tears of happiness like this in a very long time! I'm so happy I got to see it with younger sister who loves Sonic too, I have got to introduce her to the games!
My theatre experience was perfect for me. It was half filled with older Sonic fans and parents with kids. When the mid credits scene happened, both the fans and the kids were absolutely losing it while some of the parents were casually like "Oh hey. I know that guy." It was great. lol
I envy you. I still had a great time (it was my first time in theatres since Sonic 1) but mine was definitely 80%+ parents with kids. Not as many reactions but the kids definitely enjoyed some of the more low hanging fruit jokes. Still, even in my theatre, there were HUGE cheers in the mid-credits scene. I was honestly surprised since I figured the "demographic" in my theatre may not be as familiar with [Spoiler]. Kinda made me wish I went downtown to the bigger theatres to watch the movie with the reactions people are descibing but it was still fun.
The wedding twist was the highlight of the film. They managed to introduce GUN in a funny way and make the human characters relevant without dwelling on them for too long.
My theater my had much more reactions than I expected, it was a good mix of families and adults. Lot of laughs and even some clapping at certain moments. ~~~Slight Spoiler Warning~~~ There was a father sitting right next to me, and I remember him having a pretty good chuckle when Sonic inhaled the air bubble. It was surreal yet incredible seeing such a video gamey mechanic played completely straight in a theatrical film.
That finale had me feeling like a kid remembering why I started to love the series and that post credits scene had me vibrating with hype. Fittingly, the sonic films have great momentum when I’ve really enjoyed the film and then left even more excited for the next film. Sonic 3 will be very tricky to get right though, copying the game story directly wouldn’t really work but they need to copy enough for that character to have a proper backstory
I have a suspicion that they'll likely follow some plot lines in regards to you-know-who, but I suspect there will be a different big baddy. Metal Sonic would be a great candidate, and could lead to overarching impostor storyline, but I could also see them replacing the Biolizard with Chaos too.
I love hearing that Sonic fans gave a big cheer for Colleen O'Shaughnessey. You so rarely get just veteran voice actors in these big blockbusters or kids movies so that’s nice.
The characterization being handled so well is such a relief for me. Tails backstory and relationship with Sonic, though taking a bit from Amy actually with the mild stalking was handled nicely, and once the little brother dynamic got fully into gear the characterization was spot on. Knuckles especially was good. A hot-headed warrior with a one track mind that is a clueless but observant fish out of water in every other situation is a really fun path to take with Knuckles. We'll see how the flanderization problem goes, but given that he's getting his own spinoff series, I'm hopeful he'll get more depth instead of less.
Just like Sonic 1, this was a surprisingly good time. Knuckles was definitely the highlight here, with Idris Elba giving a great performance. I appreciated all the little references to the games, but I would have liked more actual Sonic music tracks. Missed opportunity for Ice Cap 3 during the snowboarding scene.
@@singletona082 Ackshually, in the credits they use Adventure ice cap (you can see the orange ramps in there) so there's no reason why they used a generic song
The Dance Off Scene was also a missed opportunity to put in a Michael Jackson song to bring it all around back full circle with Sonic dressed up as him too. Wonder what song they would’ve used. What Michael Jackson song would you use?
My theater reaction was really good. It really made the experience that much more fun! Almost everyone cheered and clapped at every little reference. For that end credits scene, as soon as the words "50 years ago" were said, the entire theater audibly gasped in unison, followed by ear splitting (but in a good way) cheering and roaring applause as soon as the camera panned down to Shadow himself. Probably the best theater going experience I've had since No Way Home.
I watched this on the opening weekend and the showing I went to had a very large group of little kids. Normally it would be an annoyance to me, but I feel this time it actually added to the experience. Kids were laughing, cheering, getting a sense of anticipation, and overall extremely hyped. The kids went NUTS when Super Sonic showed up as well as the Shadow stinger at the end. Really made me feel like a kid again watching this movie with the audience in combination with the film testing my knowledge of lore with how many deep cuts they squeeze in. Overall, it really goes to show that no matter what jaded cynical Twitter user will tell you, Sonic is nowhere near close to going away.
I had the same exact experience as you, my audience was cheering in excitement at the sight of Knuckles, Tails, Super Sonic and especially Shadow. It brings me tears of joy that the new generation will get to see and love these characters we grew up with.
"Why doesn't Sonic just use his super speed, grab the map and tails, and get them the hell out of there?" So, presumably to fact that they were hopelessly, desperately lost, and there was a blizzard going on outside just aren't things anymore? Their odds of survival inside that bar, at that moment, are pretty terrible, but they are still significantly higher than them being lost in a blizzard without any clue where the nearest possible shelter could be
In my theater, in response to Shadow, I heard someone respond with general excitement, but one person was absolutely POPPING OFF. Like, when they mentioned a project "dating back over fifty years" you heard the biggest gasp that was ever heard in a movie theater, then when Shadow actually showed up onscreen, they were yelling "YES! YEEEEEEES!!!" And that person was me.
I liked this movie way more than the first one. My cousin and friend were akso big sonic fans and all the references in the movie were just awesome to watch.
I absolutely loved this movie. I didn't mind the human stuff, it's short enough and the characters are all fun. God knows what happens in the sequel. But this movie is everything I've ever wanted and the next movie will probably be even more so. The first movie walked so this movie could soar. As a Sonic fan I literally could not be happier. I wish we were getting metal, but I'm losing my shit over shadow anyway.
Freakin' thank you for pointing out the fact that the movie canon is supposed to be its own thing. It's honestly been annoying how much talk I see about how the next movie should adapt a certain game or saying that [mid-credit spoiler character] is showing up "too soon". The people behind these movies know what they're doing (minus the very first movie-Sonic design, but that wasn't on the director or writers); let them keep on doing what they're doing. After all, why would anybody want to know the story before they even see the movie?
This might be a hot take, but I kinda hope that the only new Sonic character to show up in the next movie is Shadow. I feel like having Rouge and Amy might bloat the cast a bit, trying to give them ample development and the humans and Shadow. Besides, as far as Amy being the one to convince Shadow to go good? That could easily be relegated to one of the humans because I don't think they're going away.
I know you guys are going to hate this I think Sonic is going to talk to Shadow. They both lost there love ones to a group of people who wants to capture them. Sonic will relate to him and underatand Shadow's feelings.
I thought the wedding scene was actually pretty funny, particularly as someone that doesn't really like embarrassing humor. I also really liked that they made the human characters relevant instead of throwing them away like other movies have done before...
During the Super Sonic scene, I turned to my friend and said "I could cry right now." Something about seeing him on the big screen just got me really emotional, not gonna lie.
I liked how knuckles at first warns tails and donut lord about how sonic might not be himself with all that energy. Like to think that’s a subtle nod to the fleetway comic, where super sonic was an insane psychopath.
It helps that this is the first time Super Sonic has been more than a not-so-nifty bonus unlockable since Sonic Generations. Yeah, I'd rather have Super Sonic be reserved for the final boss. It makes it all the more special that way.
my biggest hope for shadow's characterization in the next movie is more in line with his SA2 self, he was actually pretty cool in that game compared to the edginess in later games, he actually felt like a more evil sonic, cocky and confident but just evil
I took my great niece (big Sonic fan) to the film & she loved it. She almost missed the Shadow reveal though since she was distracted by people leaving but she did see him wake up & got super excited My only fear for the 3rd film is that announcement of Jim Carey retiring. A change in live actor is more jarring than a change in voice actor Also I won a bet with a friend who thought that if there was a teaser for a 3rd film, they would use Metal Sonic while I claimed they would use Shadow
One thing I absolutely adore about this movie is how it works in references. There is a SHITLOAD of references to the rest of Sonic's franchise past and present, whether that's the Sonic 06 foot tapping the powered down robot, or the snowboarding scene, the Mean Bean, or even at one point I noticed Sonic doing his iconic Sonic Adventure pose in the middle of fighting robots. But these references aren't just so that fans of the games will do that Leonardo Dicaprio pointing meme, they're mostly worked in organically, and feel so natural to the plot and the characters making the references, that newcomers and even some of the dedicated fans won't notice all the references at first. It'll just feel like a neat thing we see in the movie, no context needed because the movie has provided a new context that makes the reference feel natural, and that in my opinion is the perfect way to use references in a movie like this. The madmen even figured out how to fit in a Ugandan Knuckles "Do you know de wey?" reference without it being too cringy and blatant. The closest thing to a reference being jarring was Green Hill Zone being Donut Lord's ring tone, and even then it was completely harmless. Also, can I just point out how much I love the scene of Super Sonic using his new godly power to just summon a chili dog? That was a great way to add some levity after such an intense final battle.
The version of Knuckles in this movie is the best interpretation of the character since Sonic Heroes (IMO), I like how they make him dumb yet really badass
When Sonic told Tails "Sure, Buddy" to assure that they're now best buds, a kid in the theater room copied the line, and I thought it was the most adorable thing I've ever heard.
90s kid checking in. I saw the early screening last wednesday, got the posters & comic book, sat in my seat, and felt like an 8 year old kid hooking up the Gamecube to play Sonic Adventure or waking up Saturday morning to watch Sonic-X. I was smiling through the whole movie! I loved it. Genuinely laughed quite a few times too. Yeah, some of the human scenes went on too long, and some jokes didn't work for me, but overall... great movie! The characterization of Knuckles & Tails were great! Carrey went all in as Eggman too! Also that end credit scene! BRO!! [Spoilers Ahead] If we can't get Jason Griffith as Shadow, and they go for a bigger name, I'm going with Keanu Reeves, Adam Driver, or Sam Witwer! I made a quick slideshow vid of other actors I'd like to see too. Can't wait for Sonic 3!!
I’m all for #MakeRobotnikGay Also Knuckles going “SONIC! I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THEY HAVE SPRINKLES!” is the best line in the movie. He has no idea what Sprinkles are but he’s excited like a toddler. It’s adorable.
My theater experience was pretty quiet for the most part their was a few laughs hear or there but overall quiet however when that post credit scene happened as soon as Shadow pop's up. I heard a bunch of kids screaming and yelling "Oh my gosh it's Shadow" , "That's Shadow the Hedgehog!" . But overall good movie, it had its problems but I enjoyed it and I can't wait to see the third movie and that Knuckles series here's to the Sonic cinematic universe.
I was the only adult without children in my theater, and one of them was crying a lot, loved the movie. The Sonic Adventure pose during the dance scene somehow made that scene for me.
I was constantly smiling watching it this weekend. Been a fan since SA2B on gamecube so many years ago. Seeing mean bean, the GUN helicopter having Sa-2 on, the labyrinth zone, all of it was great. Certainly interesting to see what they do with the 3rd movie since they jumped far ahead. Also live action Rouge is going to be a fun time on internet
Typically in the UK, my impressions are unless you're going to a screening which is "first viewing of the next, anticipated marvel film", audience reactions in the cinemas are minimal to none, of which my viewing was the case. Didn't stop me from initially popping for every Knuckles bit (a dumb personal fav being the "dot dot dot" scene), Super Sonic and his presence, even laughing to myself that out of all the classic Mega Drive/Genesis zones you could pull from - we get argubly the most complained classic zone strongly referenced here haha! (alongside best game ever made, Mean Bean (Cafe) Machine having a presence on and off throughout the film :P). One of the most heartwarming things to come out of this film was actually when the film was over - we're all leaving the screening, heading towards the car and I see a kid infront of me with his mum, dressed as Sonic, being super happy and exciting, clearly imitating the Super Sonic moment when Sonic stops & no sells the Egg Robot punch. In that moment, aside from the film itself making me feel like a kid again, I saw myself in that kid imagining that I would of reacted and done the same. Was beautiful to see. Also, random nod I'm taking from this film which I don't care if this is a stretch, a coincidence or whatever - when Knuckles stops and protects the humans from approaching Super Sonic after the fight, I'm taking his line and the vibe Sonic initially gave off as a nod to the British Sonic The Comic, where that version of Super Sonic is a deadly, out of control, murder-hungry mad man lol, and Knuckles was simply just being cautious of that :P
I absolutely love how they included the drowning theme in this movie, though it happens so quick, it's hard to notice. I has to listen to the Soundtrack on Spotify to notice
I went to see it Friday with like 13 of my friends and people did applaud at the end of the movie which I was pleasantly surprised by. And of course the reaction to the post-credits scene was what you’d expect. I’m really happy with the movie despite its flaws.
Some kid in my theater just full on shouted "OHHH SHIT!" when shadow was revealed followed immediately by what sounded like said child getting smacked right upside the head by their parent.
Okay I can give you the weirdness of the wedding being full of "You know what" and the two cages. It's weird, but if I had to guess. They were playing a long game. Even if Sonic didn't show up, they'd still have an 'inside man' that could find and confirm where he is. As for the two cages. *shrugs* One's a backup. I mean if you only have on cage and it breaks, that kinda ruins things. However I'm sorry the dance off problem. You're asking why Sonic didn't super speed grab the map and run off with Tails.... *ahem* TO WHERE!? They came in here because there is a SNOWSTORM outside. Something that if they stayed in WOULD LIKELY KILL THEM. Where is Sonic going to take them? Unless he uses a ring to go somewhere else, which isn't really ideal at the moment as they are trying to find the compass before Knuckles and them can. He's kinda stuck there. I don't think him running blinding in a snowstorm would be a good idea. >_>
Yeah. That's the one part I disagree with Johnny on. Unless if there's like some sort of Flame Shield to keep them warm, they can't go anywhere during that snowstorm. I mean, did he not notice when they caught by it before heading in the cabins?
Everything about this movie was amazing, the references, the fights, the animation, humor, I loved it all. That finale actually had me in tears, being a die-hard Sonic fan seeing Super sonic on the Big screen was freaking amazing. The moment I saw G.U.N. It was basically confirmation that Shadow had to be in the end-credits. I was telling my friends before the movie that if Shadow was in the End credits scene I was going to scream and oh my god the moment I heard: "50-Years ago" I screamed: "IT'S SHADOW!! IT'S SHADOW!!!" I had my hands on my head and stared at the screen in shock for like 2 whole minutes and started to tear up so much I didn't even get that good of a look at him but it was still amazing. This movie will always hold a special place in my heart.
I kinda took the quill disappearing as being the powersource for the egg-o-matic, we've seen him use it as power in the ship he had last time, so I kinda figured thats where it went
3:39 thank god you said it. I thought I was going crazy being 1 of the few who thinks In-N-Out Burger isn't as good as people hype it up to be. This review is already off to a great and prolific start!
It’s pretty good and for the price, a deal. But there’s always a big damn line so I don’t get it often, (don’t like ordering fast food for delivery). I feel the same way about Chik-fil-a. Good, but not get in a giant line and wait for it good.
when he summons the chili dog from the sky, it seemed reminiscent of the opening of black knight. the merlina portal looks a lot like the one sonic makes.
The problem with my raycon is that eventually one side gets really louder than the other, and I’ve messed the audio settings in my phone to deal with that, but I want to fix the issue.
@@ccateni28 Even the expensive ones (E85) had troubles for him and found the KZ KSN Pro X to be better for immense value on show (E85s were US$180, the KSN Pro X was $18), he recommended the Taotronics SoundLiberty 79 buds instead.
if i understand correctly, raycon is literally just a company that buys cheap earbuds and repaints them to sell as their own product. i try not to take it too seriously when people whose content i enjoy advertise for dishonest companies - i consider betterhelp a scam on a similar level and everyone under the sun seems to do sponsorship deals with them. big picture, there are much worse things you can make money off of
I find it funny that everyone says that operation catfish makes no sense which, yes it’s true. But we’re talking about the same people who can’t seem to tell the difference between a black & red and a blue hedgehog. Also, I’m just hoping to see the moon get blown in half next movie
I think that the whole misidentification plot will have to be dropped. It is not believable when the ubiquitousness of smartphones is taken into consideration.
Definitely loved this one and my girlfriend even had fun with it as we did with the first one (even though she has little clue about Sonic). I definitely think there needed to be more time with the Owl-clad warriors and less on the wedding, but everything else was solid involving Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik, Stone, Tom, and Maddie. For the next one, I definitely would like to see other characters pop up with Shadow like Metal Sonic, Amy, Chaos and the Chao, Tikal, and maybe even a survivor from the Owl tribe. Not sure how I would feel if they decided to bring Rouge in, be it her actual humanoid bat design, or make a human character fit the part. And I think there's enough comic relief to not have Big the Cat.
Two small references I liked were how one of the GUN helicopters when they were approaching Green Eggman and Ham was marked SA-2. And my brain was filled with so much serotonin when Sonic did the SA1 pose during the dance off.
The fact the first Sonic movie was such a success easily gave way for sequels, as there is a lot of potential when it comes to adapting the source material into a movie. And while I haven't seen the movie myself yet (I don't see myself going to a movie theater anymore, or at least, not for a long time), however, when I have seen the movie (which will likely be when the movie is out on Blu Ray) then I'll be sure to share thoughts on the movie here.
you also kinda missed a black knight reference with the chili dogs. it's not a 1 to 1 reference, but with him just summoning the chili dogs from the sky - which is where he (and his chili dogs) fell from in black night. i didn't pick up on it right away either, but it made me smile on second viewing.
Growing up with Johnny being my favorite TH-cam personality for Sonic content, you best believe I’ve been anticipating his review of this movie more than any TH-cam review ever!! :D
The Sonic 06 reference is probably there cause the director of this movie, Jeff Folwler, hails from Blur Studios the animation company behind the CGI Cutscenes in Shadow the hedgehog and Of course Sonic 06 with that intro sequence.
Watching those fight scenes, the Sonic Heroes-esque moments and then the climax and post-credits scene had me fanboying with my brothers a lot. I think we were the only ones because everyone else was rather quiet. lol One of my bros even got me the limited edition poster since he works at an AMC! I think they may be pushing for a PG-13 rating especially with all the hell drops and “sh**” wordplay jokes. Shadow may even be the final push for that rating, honestly. That said, us Sonic fans are eating good movie-wise. I can only hope Frontiers keeps the good vibes going!
There was a very young child in my theater (one state to the west of you) who screamed "CHAOS CONTROL," when Super Sonic appeared. I don't know why, but it made me emotional because I saw myself in that kid when I was his age.
So happy with how this movie turned out, definitely exceeded expectations and I concur with most of the praises and criticisms you talk about in this video. I went to see the movie with my two siblings and it was a surprisingly reactive audience with a lot of laughs and musings throughout the film (some coming from myself), and the cherry on top was the post credits scene when they revealed the big star of the next movie which I am STOKED to see in action. I've been a Shadow fan since childhood and I was crossing my fingers that they'd choose him for the next movie and I'm fucking glad they did. All there's left to hope now is that they don't drop the ball and sustain this momentum for his character in the next movie, which by now the team at Paramount have proven themselves capable. A greatly enjoyable experience all in all and the tribute Sonic deserves after some rocky recent years, 8/10.
The thing I loved about this movie the most is how they did Knuckles. In most of the later Sonic games, they made him a lot less of a hothead and made him even dumber than usual and is often used purely for comic relief. In this movie, he's the no-nonsense badass that is not dumb at all but naïve and shows he is on par with Sonic while giving him some quirky moments as he is still trying to adjust to Earth's culture. I believe that is the perfect way to represent Knuckles and it's a shame we didn't get that personality from him since Heroes
I really liked it! I would've preferred the Shadow scene to stop at just like the shoes or something to not show eeeverything, but my girlfriend went nuts the second they said "50 years", we both knew what that meant. As for theater reactions, most where ours, we intentionally went to the cinema at an awkward time to minimize the chance of crowds and it worked as there were like less than 15 people total, perfect for someone still paranoid about COVID. But I did ugly laugh at the gun in the bible and maid Robotnik
I don't think they'd make Robotnik gay, not that there's anything wrong with that, but Robotnik like in the games, only cares about his machines, if anything I'd see him building a relationship with a robot. Now that wasn't showed off as much in this movie, but definitely got that from the 1st movie, where he's yelling at the general, machines are his babies, they do what they're told, no need for fleshy things. I will say I do prefer that, he doesn't need a relationship, if he did it'd be with himself or a machine, he's that narcissistic and in love with his machines, like maybe that's... ok no, I don't need to know why he invented orbot and cubot anymore, NOPE DON'T NEED THAT IMAGE IN MY HEAD!
They set up the reason for why they couldn’t just grab the map and leave the bar. The blizzard was preventing them from leaving out of fear of freezing to death, but also it was making Tail’s radar not work properly. They needed to get the map back, but also find somewhere to stay as the blizzard passed.
After watching the video: Honestly I cried during the scene when Sonic went super because after everything this franchise has been through, just sitting down in a packed theatre filled with people and families excited to so see the next Sonic film. It felt like Sonic was finally getting the respect he deserved
I love how the Sonic & Tails dynamic was handled. In the games Sonic and Tails were mostly friends. But here Tails is inspired by Sonic’s actions and after talking with him he realizes that maybe being weird and different isn’t so bad, it’s a believable and important lesson for children that are seeing this film. As someone this is Autistic, socially awkward and deals with anxiety on a daily basis, it was easy for me to relate to and just say “Yeah I agree, there’s nothing wrong with being different; it makes you unique and special to stand out from the crowd.”
Maaaaan how I wish I was there for the energy you guys experienced. I can tell you while we had cheers in the crowd, including myself, it was pretty tame seeing it in a theater over the weekend in NY.
Believe me, you weren't the only one who was expecting Metal Sonic to appear in a possible sequel, and I definitely was not expecting Shadow to appear in the ending, which really got me so excited that I nearly cried! ;D
The post-credits scene is genuinely the only time a movie got me so hyped that I had to cheer. Not even Spider-Man: No Way Home managed to get that out of me.
This movie is doing super well, and I am happy for both Paramount and Sega. Sonic has been part of my life ever since I was a kid and I'm glad that Sonic is getting back into the spotlight (properly). I didn't know about the solo tails movie, I bet that's going to have an interesting story in it. Look out MCU, you might have some competition (The SCU). If the Sonic Cinematic Universe does become a thing I hope we get Team Chaotix (Vector, Espio, and Charmy) and Blaze The Cat. It might take a while for that but I will still be hopeful for it.
@@HistoryandReviews Your Probably Right, but a man can dream though. It will be nearly impossible to beat impossible beat Avengers: Endgame in the box office (1.2 Billion dollars, hot damn)!
I personally loved the movie. It was a massive improvement from the first one. I know with almost every single reference I saw I did the Leonardo Dicaprio meme where he points at the screen because I was giddy to see them. I actually squealed when I saw Shadow at the end credits. SA2 Battle was one of the first games I played outside of Pokémon. So to know that Sonic and Shadow will be facing off against each other in the next movie will feel like replaying SA2B for the first time again. This movie made me feel like a kid again.
My theater literally had kids saying "Shadow" before he popped up after the credits. That's how awesome that moment was. As soon as they mentioned G.U.N earlier in the movie, I knew he was coming and was so excited.
I just hope the next movie pays some respect to the game music. Sonic 2 had a small reference of the drowning theme and that’s about it. I’d better be jammin’ to Crush 40 during Sonic 3.
Live and learn better be in the next movie
Escape from the City remix when?
When sonic was bouncing on knuckles and that music played, I was in full fan mode? Anyone else?
Oh no doubt. I would love to hear Escape from the City in the next film.
If Live and Learn isn’t in Sonic 3 we will riot and roam the streets.
For the record, the "Thoughts into reality" thing is taken from Adventure 1 and 2 (reworded later in the movie more accurately), that the Master Emerald can turns thoughts into power.
And sonic 06 when blaze talks with silver .
Robotnik also references the phrase when he's transforming "chaos is power..."
Also isn't that like a thing in the comics? That super sonic basically becomes omnipotent?!
@@jamestomato1744 super sonic ever since sonic 2 is essentially meant to be a "God mode". And I'm glad the movie got that part right.

I watched it with my girlfriend and we saw a kid rise there Super Sonic plush in the air
Yet when my brother watched it, he heard a kid yell out "ITS GOLDEN SONIC" lmao
Bro my theater was dead silent lmao

When Knuckles' backstory was being showcased in the movie; i remember screaming out "GET BENT KEN PENDERS" and someone in the theater responded to me and said "YEAH YOU SAID IT!". All that did was make me think "Oh god someone else knows who that is!" But it was a fun moment when seeing this film!
After reading this, all I can picture is the manly handshake from Predator being exchanged in the theater.
I'm not into the fandom near enough to know why Ken Penders should get bent, I just know he has to

@MoloTurbo actually, he didn't win. Someone dug up the case files, and it's just a stalemate that led to an out of court settlement, from what I understand. Should be able to find it on Twitter. Ken has just been on so much copium it genuinely amazes me he's kept up the act for so long.
@@lucinavonnolaran8728 you know a part of me belives the fault should also lie with the people who actually brought this to his attention.

I agree, I thought the first movie was nice, but this movie is a great theory of the sequel learning what worked and rolling with it.
Yo you did!? That's awesome!

Some points:
I think Adventure is gonna be used for the Knuckles Paramount plus series.
I think the next villain will either be Metal Sonic or Chaos
Jesus, imagine if Metal _and_ Shadow frame him
@@sentientmustache8360 i am more along the lines of Metal Sonic cause, if they are going to use Chaos as the final villain that's going to be ALOT of CGI especially if they have Chaos become Perfect Chaos
Well Shadow is gonna be in the next movie if u haven't seen the extra end credit.

Good for you, I was spoiled by the end being recommended to me on TH-cam before the movie even came out in the west

The wedding crashing was just really really good timing, and really good banking on Sonic's following of Tom, trouble's following of Sonic.
i found that part pretty self explanatory, sonic appearing just gave them an opportunity and they took it
@@ralphthejedimaster It seems we are in agreement, Kirisame of the Forest of Magic
I agree
Same. It was self explanatory
It's how much respect they're treating the video game lore and effects that makes the movie for me. From G.U.N. and Shadow to something as small as Knuckles asking for grapes. (Seriously they referenced a random fact from the Sonic 3 instruction booklet that I haven't thought about in decades) .
Right! This series could have easily been "let's just make a lot of money with a talking mascot", but the filmmakers really care about the lore.
It’s also in Sonic Generations!
The chaos emeralds turning "thoughts into reality" aka reality warping has always been a thing in Sonic. Notably SA1, SA2 and 06.

I think one of the best things about this movie is the fact that I get to feel like a kid again.
How do you know they were older sonic fans. Just because theyre older doesnt mean they’re fans from way back
The wedding twist was the highlight of the film. They managed to introduce GUN in a funny way and make the human characters relevant without dwelling on them for too long.
I'm happy that they made Knuckles not be completely stupid in this movie but more naive and is more fish out of water that comes off more as cute.
My theater my had much more reactions than I expected, it was a good mix of families and adults. Lot of laughs and even some clapping at certain moments.
~~~Slight Spoiler Warning~~~
There was a father sitting right next to me, and I remember him having a pretty good chuckle when Sonic inhaled the air bubble. It was surreal yet incredible seeing such a video gamey mechanic played completely straight in a theatrical film.
That finale had me feeling like a kid remembering why I started to love the series and that post credits scene had me vibrating with hype. Fittingly, the sonic films have great momentum when I’ve really enjoyed the film and then left even more excited for the next film. Sonic 3 will be very tricky to get right though, copying the game story directly wouldn’t really work but they need to copy enough for that character to have a proper backstory
Calm down twerp
I have a suspicion that they'll likely follow some plot lines in regards to you-know-who, but I suspect there will be a different big baddy. Metal Sonic would be a great candidate, and could lead to overarching impostor storyline, but I could also see them replacing the Biolizard with Chaos too.
I love hearing that Sonic fans gave a big cheer for Colleen O'Shaughnessey. You so rarely get just veteran voice actors in these big blockbusters or kids movies so that’s nice.
This movie was basically everything I could've hoped for and more as a Sonic fan, and I'm so hyped for the future of the film series.
The characterization being handled so well is such a relief for me. Tails backstory and relationship with Sonic, though taking a bit from Amy actually with the mild stalking was handled nicely, and once the little brother dynamic got fully into gear the characterization was spot on. Knuckles especially was good. A hot-headed warrior with a one track mind that is a clueless but observant fish out of water in every other situation is a really fun path to take with Knuckles. We'll see how the flanderization problem goes, but given that he's getting his own spinoff series, I'm hopeful he'll get more depth instead of less.
Just like Sonic 1, this was a surprisingly good time. Knuckles was definitely the highlight here, with Idris Elba giving a great performance. I appreciated all the little references to the games, but I would have liked more actual Sonic music tracks. Missed opportunity for Ice Cap 3 during the snowboarding scene.
Yea but that's a sonic 3 track. Seems like... NOBODY can get the rights on those tracks sorted. Not even sega themselves.
My theater reaction was really good. It really made the experience that much more fun! Almost everyone cheered and clapped at every little reference.
For that end credits scene, as soon as the words "50 years ago" were said, the entire theater audibly gasped in unison, followed by ear splitting (but in a good way) cheering and roaring applause as soon as the camera panned down to Shadow himself. Probably the best theater going experience I've had since No Way Home.
I watched this on the opening weekend and the showing I went to had a very large group of little kids. Normally it would be an annoyance to me, but I feel this time it actually added to the experience. Kids were laughing, cheering, getting a sense of anticipation, and overall extremely hyped. The kids went NUTS when Super Sonic showed up as well as the Shadow stinger at the end. Really made me feel like a kid again watching this movie with the audience in combination with the film testing my knowledge of lore with how many deep cuts they squeeze in.
Overall, it really goes to show that no matter what jaded cynical Twitter user will tell you, Sonic is nowhere near close to going away.
That is honestly so endearing.
I absolutely loved this movie. I didn't mind the human stuff, it's short enough and the characters are all fun. God knows what happens in the sequel. You definitely made the Sonic red carpet premier even more special it was nice seeing you Johnny ♥️
Freakin' thank you for pointing out the fact that the movie canon is supposed to be its own thing. It's honestly been annoying how much talk I see about how the next movie should adapt a certain game or saying that [mid-credit spoiler character] is showing up "too soon". The people behind these movies know what they're doing (minus the very first movie-Sonic design, but that wasn't on the director or writers); let them keep on doing what they're doing. After all, why would anybody want to know the story before they even see the movie?
This might be a hot take, but I kinda hope that the only new Sonic character to show up in the next movie is Shadow. I feel like having Rouge and Amy might bloat the cast a bit, trying to give them ample development and the humans and Shadow. Besides, as far as Amy being the one to convince Shadow to go good? That could easily be relegated to one of the humans because I don't think they're going away.
@VinceSM I think it will be Tom's niece that talks to Shadow who then reminds him of Maria.
my biggest hope for shadow's characterization in the next movie is more in line with his SA2 self, he was actually pretty cool in that game compared to the edginess in later games, he actually felt like a more evil sonic, cocky and confident but just evil
I took my great niece (big Sonic fan) to the film & she loved it. She almost missed the Shadow reveal though since she was distracted by people leaving but she did see him wake up & got super excited
My only fear for the 3rd film is that announcement of Jim Carey retiring. A change in live actor is more jarring than a change in voice actor
Also I won a bet with a friend who thought that if there was a teaser for a 3rd film, they would use Metal Sonic while I claimed they would use Shadow
They said if Carrey doesn't sign on for future movies, they won't recast him, they'll just retire Robotnik.
They cant replace Jim in the role, and after 20 years waiting for a comeback, I doubt he is retiring when he finally got it.
I love his Robotnik, but it would be easy to just have him die and Shadow be the antagonist and round out the series.
I think that's why Eggman's fate in this is kinda vague, he could come backe or he could be dead. Depends on if Jim Carrey retires.
Have him get trapped in a machine that turns him into fat Robotnik and recast him that way
One thing I absolutely adore about this movie is how it works in references. There is a SHITLOAD of references to the rest of Sonic's franchise past and present, whether that's the Sonic 06 foot tapping the powered down robot, or the snowboarding scene, the Mean Bean, or even at one point I noticed Sonic doing his iconic Sonic Adventure pose in the middle of fighting robots. But these references aren't just so that fans of the games will do that Leonardo Dicaprio pointing meme, they're mostly worked in organically, and feel so natural to the plot and the characters making the references, that newcomers and even some of the dedicated fans won't notice all the references at first. It'll just feel like a neat thing we see in the movie, no context needed because the movie has provided a new context that makes the reference feel natural, and that in my opinion is the perfect way to use references in a movie like this. The madmen even figured out how to fit in a Ugandan Knuckles "Do you know de wey?" reference without it being too cringy and blatant. The closest thing to a reference being jarring was Green Hill Zone being Donut Lord's ring tone, and even then it was completely harmless. Also, can I just point out how much I love the scene of Super Sonic using his new godly power to just summon a chili dog? That was a great way to add some levity after such an intense final battle.
The version of Knuckles in this movie is the best interpretation of the character since Sonic Heroes (IMO), I like how they make him dumb yet really badass
When Sonic told Tails "Sure, Buddy" to assure that they're now best buds, a kid in the theater room copied the line, and I thought it was the most adorable thing I've ever heard.
90s kid checking in. I saw the early screening last wednesday, got the posters & comic book, sat in my seat, and felt like an 8 year old kid hooking up the Gamecube to play Sonic Adventure or waking up Saturday morning to watch Sonic-X. I was smiling through the whole movie! I loved it. Genuinely laughed quite a few times too. Yeah, some of the human scenes went on too long, and some jokes didn't work for me, but overall... great movie! The characterization of Knuckles & Tails were great! Carrey went all in as Eggman too! Also that end credit scene! BRO!! [Spoilers Ahead]
If we can't get Jason Griffith as Shadow, and they go for a bigger name, I'm going with Keanu Reeves, Adam Driver, or Sam Witwer! I made a quick slideshow vid of other actors I'd like to see too.
Can't wait for Sonic 3!!
Keanu should be Shadow, he is perfect.
@@Jose-se9pu He would crush it bro!
Keanu as Shadow. I like that!
@@sonicfan2006 As far as big name actors go, he's my personal pick to voice Shadow!
Do you think they would make a joke with Sonic saying your voice sounds familiar if they utilized Keanu?
I’m all for #MakeRobotnikGay
Also Knuckles going “SONIC! I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THEY HAVE SPRINKLES!” is the best line in the movie. He has no idea what Sprinkles are but he’s excited like a toddler. It’s adorable.
14:20 Johnny NOOO!!!! Your words have power
Don't ruin my childhood, please dont😭
My theater experience was pretty quiet for the most part their was a few laughs hear or there but overall quiet however when that post credit scene happened as soon as Shadow pop's up. I heard a bunch of kids screaming and yelling "Oh my gosh it's Shadow" , "That's Shadow the Hedgehog!" . But overall good movie, it had its problems but I enjoyed it and I can't wait to see the third movie and that Knuckles series here's to the Sonic cinematic universe.
Mine was dead silent, aside from myself punching the seat in excitement and a girl next to me mumbling "evil Sonic" 😭
@@AleTitan same
I was the only adult without children in my theater, and one of them was crying a lot, loved the movie. The Sonic Adventure pose during the dance scene somehow made that scene for me.
I was constantly smiling watching it this weekend. Been a fan since SA2B on gamecube so many years ago. Seeing mean bean, the GUN helicopter having Sa-2 on, the labyrinth zone, all of it was great. Certainly interesting to see what they do with the 3rd movie since they jumped far ahead. Also live action Rouge is going to be a fun time on internet
Typically in the UK, my impressions are unless you're going to a screening which is "first viewing of the next, anticipated marvel film", audience reactions in the cinemas are minimal to none, of which my viewing was the case. Didn't stop me from initially popping for every Knuckles bit (a dumb personal fav being the "dot dot dot" scene), Super Sonic and his presence, even laughing to myself that out of all the classic Mega Drive/Genesis zones you could pull from - we get argubly the most complained classic zone strongly referenced here haha! (alongside best game ever made, Mean Bean (Cafe) Machine having a presence on and off throughout the film :P).
One of the most heartwarming things to come out of this film was actually when the film was over - we're all leaving the screening, heading towards the car and I see a kid infront of me with his mum, dressed as Sonic, being super happy and exciting, clearly imitating the Super Sonic moment when Sonic stops & no sells the Egg Robot punch. In that moment, aside from the film itself making me feel like a kid again, I saw myself in that kid imagining that I would of reacted and done the same. Was beautiful to see.
Also, random nod I'm taking from this film which I don't care if this is a stretch, a coincidence or whatever - when Knuckles stops and protects the humans from approaching Super Sonic after the fight, I'm taking his line and the vibe Sonic initially gave off as a nod to the British Sonic The Comic, where that version of Super Sonic is a deadly, out of control, murder-hungry mad man lol, and Knuckles was simply just being cautious of that :P
I absolutely love how they included the drowning theme in this movie, though it happens so quick, it's hard to notice. I has to listen to the Soundtrack on Spotify to notice
I went to see it Friday with like 13 of my friends and people did applaud at the end of the movie which I was pleasantly surprised by. And of course the reaction to the post-credits scene was what you’d expect. I’m really happy with the movie despite its flaws.
Some kid in my theater just full on shouted "OHHH SHIT!" when shadow was revealed followed immediately by what sounded like said child getting smacked right upside the head by their parent.
Okay I can give you the weirdness of the wedding being full of "You know what" and the two cages. It's weird, but if I had to guess. They were playing a long game. Even if Sonic didn't show up, they'd still have an 'inside man' that could find and confirm where he is. As for the two cages. *shrugs* One's a backup. I mean if you only have on cage and it breaks, that kinda ruins things.
However I'm sorry the dance off problem. You're asking why Sonic didn't super speed grab the map and run off with Tails.... *ahem* TO WHERE!? They came in here because there is a SNOWSTORM outside. Something that if they stayed in WOULD LIKELY KILL THEM. Where is Sonic going to take them? Unless he uses a ring to go somewhere else, which isn't really ideal at the moment as they are trying to find the compass before Knuckles and them can. He's kinda stuck there. I don't think him running blinding in a snowstorm would be a good idea. >_>
Yeah. That's the one part I disagree with Johnny on. Unless if there's like some sort of Flame Shield to keep them warm, they can't go anywhere during that snowstorm. I mean, did he not notice when they caught by it before heading in the cabins?
Love how Knuckles is still able to punch the emeralds out of Super people ( Robotnik ) like when he first appeared in the games
Everything about this movie was amazing, the references, the fights, the animation, humor, I loved it all. That finale actually had me in tears, being a die-hard Sonic fan seeing Super sonic on the Big screen was freaking amazing. The moment I saw G.U.N. It was basically confirmation that Shadow had to be in the end-credits. I was telling my friends before the movie that if Shadow was in the End credits scene I was going to scream and oh my god the moment I heard: "50-Years ago" I screamed: "IT'S SHADOW!! IT'S SHADOW!!!" I had my hands on my head and stared at the screen in shock for like 2 whole minutes and started to tear up so much I didn't even get that good of a look at him but it was still amazing. This movie will always hold a special place in my heart.
I also have to bet that rouge is a pretty good bet for a incoming character
SAME I POPPED OFF SO HARD AT SHADOW
I kinda took the quill disappearing as being the powersource for the egg-o-matic, we've seen him use it as power in the ship he had last time, so I kinda figured thats where it went
I couldn’t stop gushing about the film last Saturday it was so faithful to the games and fun. I’m definitely gonna watch it a second time😌
Dude I'm still gushing from my viewing on Saturday and god I want to go see it again immediately
@@GoreHusbando same here man😎
What knuckles said about super sonic is definitely a reference to the fleetway comics
3:39 thank god you said it. I thought I was going crazy being 1 of the few who thinks In-N-Out Burger isn't as good as people hype it up to be. This review is already off to a great and prolific start!
I was popping off when I heard that too. XD
It's good, but yeah def overrated. I'd rather go to Fatburger if I had to choose a chain that's out West but not here in the Midwest.
It’s pretty good and for the price, a deal. But there’s always a big damn line so I don’t get it often, (don’t like ordering fast food for delivery). I feel the same way about Chik-fil-a. Good, but not get in a giant line and wait for it good.
@@iihellionii9742 Good point about those giant lines.
I only go to In N Out for their hot chocolate, and for a good walk.
when he summons the chili dog from the sky, it seemed reminiscent of the opening of black knight. the merlina portal looks a lot like the one sonic makes.
The problem with my raycon is that eventually one side gets really louder than the other, and I’ve messed the audio settings in my phone to deal with that, but I want to fix the issue.
They are not as good as people advertise.
DankPods mentioned that one of the pars Raycon sent him just to try was broken on one side.
So its a common issue.
@@ccateni28 Even the expensive ones (E85) had troubles for him and found the KZ KSN Pro X to be better for immense value on show (E85s were US$180, the KSN Pro X was $18), he recommended the Taotronics SoundLiberty 79 buds instead.
if i understand correctly, raycon is literally just a company that buys cheap earbuds and repaints them to sell as their own product. i try not to take it too seriously when people whose content i enjoy advertise for dishonest companies - i consider betterhelp a scam on a similar level and everyone under the sun seems to do sponsorship deals with them. big picture, there are much worse things you can make money off of
I find it funny that everyone says that operation catfish makes no sense which, yes it’s true. But we’re talking about the same people who can’t seem to tell the difference between a black & red and a blue hedgehog. Also, I’m just hoping to see the moon get blown in half next movie
I think that the whole misidentification plot will have to be dropped. It is not believable when the ubiquitousness of smartphones is taken into consideration.
@@sonicmastersword8080 I’d argue it wasn’t believable even in the games
Definitely loved this one and my girlfriend even had fun with it as we did with the first one (even though she has little clue about Sonic). I definitely think there needed to be more time with the Owl-clad warriors and less on the wedding, but everything else was solid involving Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik, Stone, Tom, and Maddie. For the next one, I definitely would like to see other characters pop up with Shadow like Metal Sonic, Amy, Chaos and the Chao, Tikal, and maybe even a survivor from the Owl tribe. Not sure how I would feel if they decided to bring Rouge in, be it her actual humanoid bat design, or make a human character fit the part. And I think there's enough comic relief to not have Big the Cat.
Two small references I liked were how one of the GUN helicopters when they were approaching Green Eggman and Ham was marked SA-2. And my brain was filled with so much serotonin when Sonic did the SA1 pose during the dance off.
The fact the first Sonic movie was such a success easily gave way for sequels, as there is a lot of potential when it comes to adapting the source material into a movie.
And while I haven't seen the movie myself yet (I don't see myself going to a movie theater anymore, or at least, not for a long time), however, when I have seen the movie (which will likely be when the movie is out on Blu Ray) then I'll be sure to share thoughts on the movie here.
you also kinda missed a black knight reference with the chili dogs. it's not a 1 to 1 reference, but with him just summoning the chili dogs from the sky - which is where he (and his chili dogs) fell from in black night. i didn't pick up on it right away either, but it made me smile on second viewing.
Growing up with Johnny being my favorite TH-cam personality for Sonic content, you best believe I’ve been anticipating his review of this movie more than any TH-cam review ever!! :D
The Sonic 06 reference is probably there cause the director of this movie, Jeff Folwler, hails from Blur Studios the animation company behind the CGI Cutscenes in Shadow the hedgehog and Of course Sonic 06 with that intro sequence.
Watching those fight scenes, the Sonic Heroes-esque moments and then the climax and post-credits scene had me fanboying with my brothers a lot. I think we were the only ones because everyone else was rather quiet. lol One of my bros even got me the limited edition poster since he works at an AMC! I think they may be pushing for a PG-13 rating especially with all the hell drops and “sh**” wordplay jokes. Shadow may even be the final push for that rating, honestly.
That said, us Sonic fans are eating good movie-wise. I can only hope Frontiers keeps the good vibes going!
There was a very young child in my theater (one state to the west of you) who screamed "CHAOS CONTROL," when Super Sonic appeared. I don't know why, but it made me emotional because I saw myself in that kid when I was his age.
So happy with how this movie turned out, definitely exceeded expectations and I concur with most of the praises and criticisms you talk about in this video. I went to see the movie with my two siblings and it was a surprisingly reactive audience with a lot of laughs and musings throughout the film (some coming from myself), and the cherry on top was the post credits scene when they revealed the big star of the next movie which I am STOKED to see in action. I've been a Shadow fan since childhood and I was crossing my fingers that they'd choose him for the next movie and I'm fucking glad they did. All there's left to hope now is that they don't drop the ball and sustain this momentum for his character in the next movie, which by now the team at Paramount have proven themselves capable. A greatly enjoyable experience all in all and the tribute Sonic deserves after some rocky recent years, 8/10.
The thing I loved about this movie the most is how they did Knuckles. In most of the later Sonic games, they made him a lot less of a hothead and made him even dumber than usual and is often used purely for comic relief. In this movie, he's the no-nonsense badass that is not dumb at all but naïve and shows he is on par with Sonic while giving him some quirky moments as he is still trying to adjust to Earth's culture. I believe that is the perfect way to represent Knuckles and it's a shame we didn't get that personality from him since Heroes
Sonic Movie 1: decent on its own, amazing as a video-game movie.
Sonic Movie 2: great on its own, unrivaled video-game movie quality.
Man hard to believe John had to put a spoiler alert up for a 20+ year old game....
I really liked it! I would've preferred the Shadow scene to stop at just like the shoes or something to not show eeeverything, but my girlfriend went nuts the second they said "50 years", we both knew what that meant.
As for theater reactions, most where ours, we intentionally went to the cinema at an awkward time to minimize the chance of crowds and it worked as there were like less than 15 people total, perfect for someone still paranoid about COVID. But I did ugly laugh at the gun in the bible and maid Robotnik
Also, I thought the wedding stuff was actually hilarious. I didn't expect to enjoy it.
I don't think they'd make Robotnik gay, not that there's anything wrong with that, but Robotnik like in the games, only cares about his machines, if anything I'd see him building a relationship with a robot. Now that wasn't showed off as much in this movie, but definitely got that from the 1st movie, where he's yelling at the general, machines are his babies, they do what they're told, no need for fleshy things. I will say I do prefer that, he doesn't need a relationship, if he did it'd be with himself or a machine, he's that narcissistic and in love with his machines, like maybe that's... ok no, I don't need to know why he invented orbot and cubot anymore, NOPE DON'T NEED THAT IMAGE IN MY HEAD!
They set up the reason for why they couldn’t just grab the map and leave the bar. The blizzard was preventing them from leaving out of fear of freezing to death, but also it was making Tail’s radar not work properly. They needed to get the map back, but also find somewhere to stay as the blizzard passed.
After watching the video:
Honestly I cried during the scene when Sonic went super because after everything this franchise has been through, just sitting down in a packed theatre filled with people and families excited to so see the next Sonic film.
It felt like Sonic was finally getting the respect he deserved
This whole movie journey from the first film to now has been one giant feel-good experience for me for exactly this reason. I'm so thankful.
I love how the Sonic & Tails dynamic was handled. In the games Sonic and Tails were mostly friends. But here Tails is inspired by Sonic’s actions and after talking with him he realizes that maybe being weird and different isn’t so bad, it’s a believable and important lesson for children that are seeing this film. As someone this is Autistic, socially awkward and deals with anxiety on a daily basis, it was easy for me to relate to and just say “Yeah I agree, there’s nothing wrong with being different; it makes you unique and special to stand out from the crowd.”
No one cares Nintendrone.
I’ve been waiting on this since I saw the film! Glad to see you’re still reviewing these!
If I can recall, is this the only piece of Sonic media that technically has a Super form of Robotnick?
Maaaaan how I wish I was there for the energy you guys experienced. I can tell you while we had cheers in the crowd, including myself, it was pretty tame seeing it in a theater over the weekend in NY.
Believe me, you weren't the only one who was expecting Metal Sonic to appear in a possible sequel, and I definitely was not expecting Shadow to appear in the ending, which really got me so excited that I nearly cried! ;D
The post-credits scene is genuinely the only time a movie got me so hyped that I had to cheer. Not even Spider-Man: No Way Home managed to get that out of me.
"Oh so it's like that?"
I laughed so hard at that bit, it was damn funny
I really love both movies! I never knew I would love Sonic this much!
One thing about these films are the references there was even a Sonic OVA reference which I didn't expect to see.
I saw this movie the other day, and this felt more like a Sonic movie to me. It was so good. I loved the callbacks to the games. And the ending!
"Never flying Spirit Airlines again"
Certainly not a lie, considering they're getting bought out by JetBlue.
This movie is doing super well, and I am happy for both Paramount and Sega. Sonic has been part of my life ever since I was a kid and I'm glad that Sonic is getting back into the spotlight (properly). I didn't know about the solo tails movie, I bet that's going to have an interesting story in it. Look out MCU, you might have some competition (The SCU). If the Sonic Cinematic Universe does become a thing I hope we get Team Chaotix (Vector, Espio, and Charmy) and Blaze The Cat. It might take a while for that but I will still be hopeful for it.
Yeah right MCU is crap but sonic will never top it
@@HistoryandReviews Patience, my friend.
Wait...I watched it when it came out, but I guess I didn't stay for the after credit scene, so this is complete news to me and I'm excited now
I personally loved the movie. It was a massive improvement from the first one. I know with almost every single reference I saw I did the Leonardo Dicaprio meme where he points at the screen because I was giddy to see them.
I actually squealed when I saw Shadow at the end credits. SA2 Battle was one of the first games I played outside of Pokémon. So to know that Sonic and Shadow will be facing off against each other in the next movie will feel like replaying SA2B for the first time again. This movie made me feel like a kid again.
My theater literally had kids saying "Shadow" before he popped up after the credits. That's how awesome that moment was. As soon as they mentioned G.U.N earlier in the movie, I knew he was coming and was so excited.
To me, this is the best video game adaptation ever made. Even more than Detective Pikachu!
It helps most adaptations suck. But hey, maybe in the future, more series can have movies (Soulcalibur would be interesting)
@Sarcastic Dude In the movie's defence, you need a high I.Q to understand Detective Pikachu.
@Sarcastic Dude It could've been better, but is by no means a bad film.
MK 21, dude?
Fuck no!!
Also turning thoughts into power is what the chaos emeralds are said to do in the games as well.
