My personal opinion. The Chinese refuse to mingle with the Majority Malays and Bumiputra, yet they want same equal rights. The Indians do mingle with the Malays even though different religion. The Indians speak fluent and better Malay than the Chinese. Most Malays see Chinese as not patriotic by heart, rather are opportunistic people where making money is their end goals. They disagree with affirmative action , but stay silent about Chinese only schools. You have to talk to the locals, especially the majority to know why the tension occur. 15 General Election showed that Majority Malays vote for one party, while majority Chinese vote for the other party.

This suggest "perks" that was mentioned is precisely an affirmative action. It wasn't introduced to discriminate but to bridge the income and wealth gaps between the Malays and the Non-Malays. In the relevance of the context of the modern day, the policy need to stretch further to the poor non-Malays. The British left Malaya in the state of disarrays as far as inequality is concern. Traditionally the Malays live in the "kampongs" whilst the Chinese monopolised the more advance town area. The policy was then brought forward to increase the participation of the Malays in the modern economic structure of the post-independence Malaya. The inter race relation is a complex one, and economic inequality is evidently the culprit (May 13). Majority of the Chinese are already rich (there are ample evidences to support this academically and anecdotally), asking for complete equality means simply greed. The rich should support the poor. The rich Malays should bare that equal responsibilities. You earn more, you pay more (that should be the rule of thumb). "Macam Belanda Dapat Tanah" is clearly the right proverb for this simply greedy bunches.

Non Bumiputra are treated as 2nd class citizen. Their rights are diluted to make them incapable to vote for their rights. The Malay government devises various way to see that non Bumi cannot revolt or they will send to prison if they do question. Under the ISA law they are seriously suppressed.

Jamaica, Panama, US, Australia, Indonesia, Myanmmar, Laos and to some extent the UK. All these countries have experience in dealing with Chinese Diaspora. The results usually shows that the Chinese are kicked out of the country, if not, isolated . Malaysia is one, if not the only country that did not kick out the Chinese. Always note, that in SE Asia, there will be tensions between Majority and Minority of the race. And in SE Asia, Chinese are known to be sly and opportunistic, hence the name Asian Jews. However, not all are like that, maybe 60% of Chinese are like that.

as much as the things you said. there is a reason why the malays and the natives are provided more benifits compared to chinese and indians. the malays has been downgraded by the invaders for milenias. this is to prevent from what have happened before.

I think after a few generations the non malays should also revieve same perks.
However new immigrsnts of few generation should not. The reason is non naturalized people cannot be trusted to die for the country. You have to give your dues.
This is coming from a non malay
