One thing I like about your video is that you make it simple. I’ve watched a few cabinet painting videos and they are like 500 steps sanding doors, take doors off, spray guns, pour fillers, more sanding, taping, coat after coat, on and on. I’m thinking after all that work it would be better to just go buy new cabinets. But you made it pretty simple so thanks!
You had me at dance party! I'm subbing, anybody brave enough to do that show's me you are divested of all ego entanglement. You are an emotionally healthy person.
Just want to say thank. I painted my cabinets and didn’t take any doors off ;thx to your vid.) it took me 3 days, and it’s PERFECT. Kinda mad I waited so long.
Yesss!!! Finally a video with dancing and painting : ) Just kidding I appreciate the fact that you painted the cabinets without removing them. I'm all for painting but the entire process of removing, painting , and reinstalling is just to much work for me. My life is to busy for all that, so thank you for sharing this amazing hack!
Just a couple suggestions. Use naphtha to clean off any grease/oils, useing a (red) scotch brite pad and paper towel. Then sand with 320 sandpaper. If you're going over existing paint/finish use BIN PRIMER (shellac primer) let dry for about a day then sand/vaccum before painting. Now you can use paint, and it can look great. However even paint that claims its durable isnt going to hold up in the long run. Cabinets are high use/touch spots. Chips and scratches will start showing up sooner or later. Not to mention if you dont do a good job cleaning and sand/vacuum between coats you risk and uneven and dirty finish risking the paint failing. The alternative to paint is not the most diy friendly but its infinitely better than paint. The alternative is tinted conversion varnish, you can get it at places like Sherman Williams and in any color you want. Now this method requires a little investment, as although it's not "meant" to be brushed its can be brushed on panels and face frames Using a mini roller and 2in brush on the panels (ROLL FIRST THEN USE THE BRUSH TO REMOVE THE TEXTURE FROM THE PANEL) Then use the 2in brush to paint the face frames. It has an incredibly short working time (less than 5 min once applied). This might make it a little harder to apply but so much easier to work around imo. For the doors I would definitely remove them and spray them with the conversion varnish. Now okay I know this is a lot. Probably more than you feel comfortable with, I wont lie and say its super easy but having seen the results of both systems I encourage people to put in the extra time/investment/research and go with conversion varnish. This way your kitchen will look incredible until well after the color you chose has gone out of fashion. Source; its what I do for a living.
Finally someone who is doing it without the hassle no need work to take down the cabinet. I was saying to myself" they need to be another way" now u very proven me right. Will try this on cabinet

Thank you my love! My husband and I built a house two years ago here in southern Illinois. Nothing but cornfields. When we got our kitchen cabinets, I didn’t want to paint them at that time, because we’ve been building for 3 years and I painted the entire two story house, and well, we were tired. I wanted to wait and now is the time. I’m doing a light gray for the main cabinets and I am painting my island a calming blue. I am excited! Thank you for all these tips. We have the same cabinetry. So beautiful. Great video!!
That paint is KEY!! We did our kitchen in that exact paint and it came out flawless. Not only that but after 3 years, they still look like they were done yesterday. They wipe off and they don’t chip. It’s expensive but well worth it.

This was the easiest video to follow. Incredibly informational. I feel confident in trying to paint my cabinets. I do have a QUESTION: Your deglosser, it looked quiet wet when you were cleaning off the cabinets. How do you make sure its all off before you start painting? Wet towel & then pass a clean one over it?
Thx for the video. When you use the velour / paint roller are you adding more paint or simply using it to smooth out the paint that's currently on the cupboard?
Thanks! You totally gave me hope about painting my kitchen cabinets! Especially that I don't have to take them off! One question....what if the cabinets have been stained and then coated with a clearn polyurathene (sp?) coating? Do I need to strip them or something?? Or do I just start with the degreaser/deglosser? So excited to maybe finally do this!!!
This is the first vid from you I `ve watched and I actually got what I came here for! Learned a lot about cabinet painting AND some new dance moves! Then I read some of the comments! What is wrong with people? One has no time for dancing? That comment was posted a few days ago.....all we have now is TIME!!! Hey Midlife Girl - if I were you ...I would make a whole new video just dancing - say...about 15 minutes long with the title :" How to paint counter tops !" Hehehe ;))
mybestideas1 I’ve painted many kitchens with this method and most never chip. Some do, yes, but other methods I’ve used including sanding have also chipped. Never much tho, and I yearly touch up with a q-tip when needed. That bit of touch up is worth not having to do a full sand.
Thank you for the information advanced Benjamin Moore. I’ve been thinking about painting my cabinets for a couple of years and I do not want to use chalk paint. Well at the very least I’m on the fence about it. Do you ever use any kind of topcoat? I’m assuming you do not have to stand in between your paint coats because the paint is self-leveling. Do you always prime first even if you use a deglosser? Also what do you recommend for cleaning your cabinets with if you do use this paint?
Great tips! I wanted to paint my cabinets but was intimidated. My bathroom cabinets are kinda rough but I but the BM Advance really does cover well(3 coats where I gouged the wood with my sander) and doesn’t show roller marks. I sanded, primed and painted. Big improvement!

I suggest sanding between each coat. That will help with brush marks and stippling (it won't eliminate them, but it will help).
Thanks. I was wondering about that. I suppose 220 or finer.
I was always told that you have to sand the poly finish off any surface. Does the Deglosser do the trick?
Silly question...when you use the roller to smooth everything out, do you put paint on the roller?
Tammy Crozier Yes, but I roll most of it off. There’s usually enough paint on it from rolling the other surfaces smooth. 😊
Do you sand in between coats? You didn’t talk about sanding so I will assume not, but can you clarify?
I only sand if I’m going over previously painted cabinets.

It's awesome that we live in a world where everyone gets to make their homes appeal to their own style. Thanks for participating!
What would you use for the counter tops? I have the same ones and want to change the color to a white with some black.
@@monikagarza9636 I’ve not had enough experience with painting countertops that are durable enough for the kitchen…but I see others who have done it here on TH-cam.
Glad to help! As far as the deglosser…you wipe it on and let it dry. You can start in with the primer as soon as it’s completely dry.
Thx for the video. When you use the velour / paint roller are you adding more paint or simply using it to smooth out the paint that's currently on the cupboard?
OG Hockey I roll it in the paint, then offload almost all of it before gently rolling over the surface to smooth it.
Thanks for sharing. I loved the wood before.... but to each their own 😉
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by!
My cabinets are currently a bright blue and I want to paint them black. Any tips or suggestions?
I have same situation, same question ❓
@@businessdirectory4406 I'm still waiting for her reply
This is the first vid from you I `ve watched and I actually got what I came here for! Learned a lot about cabinet painting AND some new dance moves!
Then I read some of the comments! What is wrong with people? One has no time for dancing? That comment was posted a few days ago.....all we have now is TIME!!!
Hey Midlife Girl - if I were you ...I would make a whole new video just dancing - say...about 15 minutes long with the title :" How to paint counter tops !" Hehehe ;))

🤣😂🤣😂🤣
OK, so I'm so curious as to a sealer? Would you not want to put a sealant like a polyacrylic or some sealer over the paint?
Your kitchen cabinets look stunning! Thanks for the awesome DIY hack! 🎨👏
@A Cottage Girl, how have the cabinets withstood the test of time. I am currently in the process of planning to paint my cabinets.
Thank you! Just got a house and want to start with small things and learn. Appreciate you!
Do you have to do anything for the cabinets first ??
Thanks for this awesome video! My cabinets look awesome, I used so many of your tips!
Christi S Hooray! So glad it was helpful!!
So no sanding...and no poly after the paint ?
Sounds good ! Thx !
Charles Moore I only sand if surface is very uneven or previous paint/finish is chipping.
You should sand - or redo the cabinets within a few months as chipping will be very evident. (they say no sanding but this is not really true)
mybestideas1 I’ve painted many kitchens with this method and most never chip.
Subscribed soon as I saw the dance party...love it!!! Oh and the cabinets are beautiful too...lol
Clara Harris same here! Lol
Same! 😊
Wow it's really beautiful, thank you for sharing!

You're welcome!
Lol, same!

Great tips! I wanted to paint my cabinets but was intimidated. My bathroom cabinets are kinda rough but I but the BM Advance really does cover well(3 coats where I gouged the wood with my sander) and doesn’t show roller marks. I sanded, primed and painted. Big improvement!
Very informative video , thank you .👌🏻😊 For the material that surrounds your island ......is it the same as your cabinets ?
Yes. Same wood cabinets. Thank you for watching!
