  • My Thoughts on Fillers & Botox, Retinoid Strength & Tretinoin for Under-eye Wrinkles/Eye Area
    In this video I'm answering the top (most asked) questions gathered from all of my skincare & tretinoin videos. Timestamps to each question are below; I've also pinned a comment underneath this video for ease of reference.
    0:03 What percentage of tretinoin do you use?
    2:45 What's your skin type?
    5:27 Do you [need to] moisturize?
    6:10 Do you [need to] exfoliate?
    7:35 What cosmetic work & fillers have you had done?
    14:59 Do you use tretinoin every single night?
    17:02 Do you use tretinoin on your eyelids/eye area?
    18:27 What's your advice to older women wanting to start? (Is it "too late" to start using tretinoin?)
    20:27 Which is better, the cream or gel?

      Thank you for this comment. I wanted to address this, but I was being conscious of the video length as it was, and I was trying not to ramble on and on. (So I'll do that here, right now, lol)...The facial features I possess are the result of my genetics, yes. But as far as the prevention of visible aging and disease, what matters more (the most, in fact) is lifestyle; epigenetic factors-our personal habits & consistent routines (how we live). This is not my idea or opinion but confirmed fact; widely available in the scientific literature. The crux is that people have to actually DO the things. Many would rather not, or they lack the self-discipline to adhere to routines, or they are non-compliant in another way, for any number of reasons. People (including myself!!) are generally always going to look for a quick fix or instant or overnight result-be it with their skincare, their health; anything. In my experience, however, the truth of the matter is that it requires a deep commitment to a desired, specific outcome and adherence to an efficacious routine in order to achieve success. It’s also true that most often, when any of us see success in ANY area with a certain individual, it’s very likely a combination of many factors that has yielded that whole person which we see before us (it’s never just one thing). I can say that, for example, when both my mother and I implemented time-restricted feeding (about 5-6 years ago now), we both noticed an extremely marked difference in our appearance. So our eating lifestyle alone seems to “freeze” time. Truly amazing, but we wouldn’t have ever known that unless we actually tried it ourselves and practiced it for long enough (not just one day or one month, or even one year, but a LONG time). The same is true with skincare efficacy as it pertains to the visible signs of aging. Many people want or expect a particular result in two weeks, or two months, or six months. It just doesn’t happen like that. These things take time and patience and a lot of boring routine and the dullness of waiting. But it’s worth it, is my point. If you have a certain goal in mind, then it’s definitely worth the time, energy & effort you invest in said goal for you to reach your desired outcome. But, all of this being said, I completely understand that it’s entirely optional (as is all of this, lol). Ultimately it (anything in life, actually) comes down to each individual and what they’re willing to invest, so to speak.

      Thank you Jennifer for reply. Appreciate it. I have been doing for many many years similar to what you do. I am also very disciplined, like you are.

      @@xhshgfsrodriguez4857 it's ok to be asymmetrical (of course it depends, but mostly). When did the world become so obsessed with symmetry. It's a shame. Elvis was cute and he did this asymmetrical thing with his face that pleased everyone at the time. That's just an example.
      I believe this new worry comes from marketing and the rise of plastic surgery. I think it makes people too obsessed with details and less attentive to charm, charisma and aura of a person.

      @JenniferMyers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Hello, and thanks. I think it's largely hereditary (I'm speaking of dark circles). I don't consume sugar in my daily diet, also, which is a known inflammatory agent that lends to darkness around the eyes. I don't drink alcohol, either. I know that definitely helps (my entire lifestyle as a whole contributes). I drink water when I'm thirsty; and also upon waking. I don't take supplements to aid in sleep, no.

    I feel that the discussions around artificial interventions are heating up. There are many women who decided not to go back to dying their hair (once salons reopened after the pandemic-related shutdowns), and I believe that women embracing gray hair is a big first step. When we have women such as Paulina Porizkova and yourself showing the beauty of aging without surgical intervention. For those who want it -- great! But I think that we have to stop the nonsense of thinking that aging is something to be feared. If we embrace a healthy diet (different for everyone) and a healthy lifestyle, these few topical "interventions" will work even better.

    I'm a medical professional, and I can tell you haven't had dermal fillers, Botox, or plastic surgery. It is very easy for me to tell when someone had work done on their faces. Even though I'm a skin medical professional
    I'm not a friend of facial procedures such as dermal fillers and botox, and that includes plastic surgery, but I do vitamins, amino acids, and other nutrients meso therapy on my face.
    This month I will be 64 years old, I preserve my youthful looks due to the way I was raised, my parents will hire doctors to to give us natural injections of vitamins and other nutrients, I have done isometric facial workouts since I was a child thanks to my mother. My parents were very much involved with nutrition. I explain a little bit of background in my recent video.

    I totally agree with you! I will do retinol and other topical treatments, but never anything invasive! My mom lived to 92 and had beautiful skin. I have used sunscreen religiously since I was 23 (I'm 59) and think that it is the best anti-aging product. I started tretinoin 2 years ago and use Altreno and Differin with great results. You are a beautiful person, and I love your channel and simplicity 💙

    Thank you for answering my questions about percentage! I can say Differin gave me a new face within 1 year of use. Way less acne, smooth skin, brightness and glow. It looks flawless.I wish I discovered it when I was younger and full of spots. Now trying tret 0.025 + 4% niacinamide. I think I'll try 0.05% next if I can tolerate it and then make a comparison to Differin. And yes Differin is easier to get. My goal is mainly to control acne and keep enjoying this beautiful smooth even skin that I thought I could never have - not so much controlling fine lines and wrinkles (I hate the term anti ageing, ageing happens weather we fight it or not and it's a privilege to age), so I am happy to use skincare but not interested in botox/procedures either.

    Hello Jennifer your skin is beautiful thank you for sharing. You said that you alternate differin and tretinion gel just purchased differin so trying to get idea of how to alternate. Also is your tretinion gel the microsphere or just gel? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated? I have used tretinion cream 0.05% for over 2 yrs i am 48 yrs old but told I look 30. I still deal with minor breakouts and hyperpigmentation so thats why I just started adding differin. But mainly using for anti-aging benefits. Thank you for your time.

    I recently found your channel while searching for help with retinol use. You have helped me so much with your results driven sensible approach. I am beyond sick of the fake beauty influencer “that girl” garbage that drives us into buying tons of expensive products that we don’t need and don’t work any better than good basics. Your channel is like a breath of fresh air and I love your honesty and realness. Slowly making my way through your episodes. Thank you.

      I wore too much makeup in my teens!! I wore foundation, powder over that, eyeliner and mascara, and lip color; and (as you can see, lol) my application was, well, shall I say...unfortunate. I don't wear makeup anymore, and I swear that it shaves about 10 years off. Also, I'm killing two birds w/one stone, because it saves my skin the additional rubbing involved in makeup removal; especially not wearing eye makeup has, I believe, immensely preserved my skin.

    This is really informative, thank you Jennifer! I have a question. Is it advisable to use retin-A on dry skin? I really want to introduce it in my routine, but I'm afraid it won't be proper for my skin type. Should I combine it with a very good moisturiser?

    I love tretinoin. I just turned 30 and people think I'm 24 or 25. I started using Tretinoin at 26 years old and can't live without it. I alternate between 0.025 or 0.05. At work I get asked if I have done botox too lol. Nope. Just good skincare and healthy eating habits.

    • @blondiewendy
      @blondiewendy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@nafisatahia4046 I think you can, start low, say 0.025 every other night and follow with heavy moisturizer. It should help make your skin smooth and wrinkle free but remember you also have to eat healthy, not smoke, low alcohol, and use sunscreen so you can see results. My skincare is very minimal, thick moisturizer (like Cerave in the jar, or La Roche Posay cream). I have a peptide serum from the ordinary that I use sometimes, and vitamin c with sunscreen in the morning, that's it.

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I don't use anything, no. It's my opinion (and practice) that the less touching of the face, the better. In other words, I lessen the handling of my face. The only times I touch it are during cleansing/my skincare routine, morning & night. The face (or anything for that matter) can be preserved if it's left mostly alone; just my opinion.
