OTC & Prescription Retinoids *Differin (Adapalene) & Tretinoin

  • This video is in response to one of my most-asked questions: "What are retinoids, and why should I use them?" I explain what topical retinoids are and what their primary purposes are for those who may be complete skincare novices and aren't sure where to start. It starts with educating yourself on the available treatment options and then making an informed decision. This may or not include a consultation with a healthcare provider such as a board-certified dermatologist (if you opt to go the prescription-strength route). A comparison between prescription-strength retinoids (such as tretinoin) and over-the-counter versions (like adapalene) is useful to help you choose the right product(s) for your goals, skin type, lifestyle, etc. I've also been asked on numerous occasions why I use both tretinoin and adapalene; I address that in this video. One last thing: Never purchase tretinoin (or any prescription drug) online or without a script. It must be obtained at a pharmacy with a doctor's prescription.
    Products mentioned:
    Tretinoin Gel 0.05% (Generic for Atralin®): avail. by Rx only
    Differin® Acne Treatment Gel (Retinoid w/0.1% Adapalene): amzn.to/3T51Dii
    On my face:
    DRMTLGY Facial Moisturizer w/Broad Spectrum SPF 45, Oil Free, Zinc Oxide Sunscreen For Sensitive Skin: amzn.to/3N89hV1
    Maybelline Lifter Gloss, Opal (Pink Neutral): amzn.to/3R5GuBI
    Wearing:
    Turtleneck Long Sleeve Striped Pullover Sweater/Jumper, Oats, Size M: amzn.to/3RnBQR5
    Amazon Prime free trial offer: amzn.to/3NuD8X3

    I believe that, as so-called “influencers” (of whatever capacity), we who choose to create content for public consumption have a duty of care to be transparent with our viewers. I’ve felt increasingly compelled to speak up about this because of the blatant dishonesty and audience deception that I continue to observe on this platform. And while I can’t control others’ actions, I *can* control mine. Be it in my private life or in business matters, I simply refuse to lie. Integrity is my most valuable currency, period. Thank you for reading this if you did. I needed to get it off my chest.

    Jennifer!! Thank you so much for this! However I have to point out to you that as a viewer your skincare routine is something I enjoy watching over and over again! And unlike what you think, we don’t feel it’s boring AT ALL. In fact, it’s the consistency and the repetition we like to watch. It’s the calming voice and calming routine we enjoy and if you uploaded it every week we would still watch it! It’s a great example for everyone. The only other suggestion I would make it’s for you to talk about oral health if possible!! Thank you again 🙏💖

    I did try tretinoin but had a lot of discomfort, even after 6months. I stopped and after a couple months decided to try Differin for anti-aging benefits. I was able to start using it nightly, and it doesn’t irritate my skin. It gives me a glow. It’s over the counter. It’s reasonably priced. I’m very thankful for it.

      I’ve looked up info and asked a dermatologist about whether trenitoin or differin was better for anti aging and was told they would basically give the same results. It’s like using botox versus dysport. Same end results with either product, it’s just a matter of preference and different formulations being better suited to different people.

      We offer complimentary 15 minute virtual skin consultations on Derm Planet from a Master Esthetician with 15 + years of professional experience. It can help to consult with a professional. There are MANY options in medical grade skincare and professional skincare available. Many may experience premature aging due to overly sensitized skin from using actives that were too strong, and it causes pain too.

      @@thestarinstitute I’ve had multiple dermatologists tell me that if trenitoin irritates to use it less often. Not to stop. There has not been a single MEDICAL study that shows trenitoin advances aging. Quite the opposite. But since trenitoin doesn’t make the estheticians money I guess they don’t recommend it. I guess because trenitoin means that people wouldn’t need to go and buy products from an esthetician they would not recommend it.

But I'll never stop using it because I know it helps my skin texture, smoothness, etc. I still get oily, because that is also genetic. Some things you can't change. Dr. Dray (Amanda Suarez) explains this very well. Probably my diet is not optimal enough, I can't get my head around eating beef liver, salmon with skin and bones etc. I'm a sugar bug and I know it does me no good. Anyway, love your videos, they calm me. Love your honesty and I would like to see a close up of your skin, ''makeup free''. Gosh it looks like glass. 🙂

    I live in a eu country and tretinoin prescription is hard to obtain because of the fact that dermatologists are not open to the anti age use of this active ingredient. So I would like to start with differin. Thank you for sharing your secrets

    I have been using Differine for a year now and my skin has never been better- and, I am 65 yrs old. I am a fair skinned redhead and have eczema. I have been able to tolerate it fine. I also use Vanicream skincare which has made a big difference with my eczema.

    Hi Jennifer,
    I hope you don't mind, this isn't relevant to this video but would you be able to talk more about DBT? Could you explain how you would use this therapy in different scenarios. And did you work through the workbook and text on your own?
    Thank you ❤❤❤

    For everyone out there I’ve been applying tretinoin for decades as well. I’m going to be 48 soon and I’m not lying but I have no wrinkles, my skin is plump and even looking I don’t need any makeup and no one believes my age. Plus a little tube lasts for a long time so it’s really cost efficient.
    Happy holidays all❤️

    I so agree with this ! I love your content and have been watching you for a long time . I too have been using tret for almost 20 years and there is nothing like it .
    I have become so tired of influencers that I have followed for a long time that start doing sponsored videos , I don’t like it and it turns me off because I then question if their opinions can be bought .
    Also I have been turned off by some I thought were great but then started pushing a new “ holy grail “ every 6 mos , nope I don’t believe that .
    I appreciate you sticking to what has actually worked for you and giving us that information , so thank you for that !

    • @lisd2999
      @lisd2999 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes I do use it daily , I do use a plain moisturizer on top . I have built up to it though and I can still get irritated if I use .1 % without buffering , I have no issues with .05 however . Hope that helps !

    • @rebeccahowie623
      @rebeccahowie623 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@lisd2999 Thank you, yes, that's helpful. I've been on/off .05% for several years, and not adverse reactions - always buffering like yourself. At the moment I do one night Tret, the next Growth factor serum. Bit hard to tell yet if the GF serum is as effective as the Tret. Would like to try the 0.1% - do you notice a noticeable difference between the two concentrations in terms on increased efficacy? Thanks again 😊

    • @lisd2999
      @lisd2999 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I really don’t think there is a difference really in daily use of .05 and .1 as far as results , I can use either and I do not see any difference when I have used .1 or the .05, only difference is I can still sometimes get irritated from the .1, I do not with the . 05 . I honestly think it’s the one you can use the most frequently that gives the best result. If you can use the .05 daily but the .1 only every 2 nights I think you will have better results with the .05. Strongest is not always the best. I think you would be just as happy using .05 nightly with those results. I personally feel that Tret outperforms all other more recent
      Products that have come out like the growth factors but update if you find they actually do something please ! So far I have found nothing else that does as much 😊

    Awesome video. I started 0.025 Tretinoin cream about nine months ago and have used that % for six months. Now graduated to 0.05% in the last 30 days. Overall. the results are noticeable and quite remarkable. I'm a male and had no reaction or discomfort whatsoever and this is normal for my gender. Again, love your videos and always a fan of YOU!

      @@user-qv5nt1fh4e Way more than is necessary I'm sure! At a minimum, I use some cerimides and peptides (copper)and a vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid active) followed by a hylauronic acid to seal everything in and sunscreen in lieu of mositurizer in the AM. Pm is bacically the same but exclude the vitamin C and Copper peptide use the tretnoin and finish everything off with a moisturizer instaed of the sunscreen in the PM. I only wash my face in the PM.

    I've started with Avene Retrinal for an year and replaced it with Differin / La Roche Posay Adapalene for another year. The Adapalene made a huge improvement in my skin appearance and I'd have kept it if it wasn't as drying.
    I'm on 0.05% Tretinoin now (from a tube, not unknown mixes from various new services) and have to say it's the best option for maturing skin as is much less drying.

    I miss topical tretinoin. I'm on isotretinoin so I have to limit myself to retinol.
    I have used both adapalene and tretinoin for roughly 10 months each. The skin was beautiful with both. I believe they do the same.

    Your're just inspiring! You're like my goals in skincare. I know it's a long journey to be like you. But could I ask how many times a week you use Differin and treinoin ? Do you interleave Diferrin with tretinoin? Do you use BHA anymore, how many times a week do you exfoliate your skin? I know that's too much to ask but I really hope for your answer, thank you so much!

    Hello , I'm Frances from ALBUQUERQUE, NEW Mexico I truly appreciate your time & more than anything HONESTY ... I've always taken care of my skin . However with that said I committed myself to 0.25 TRENTION for almost 2 years . January 25, 2024 is my skin anniversary. I personally believe 1 year or maybe more to achieve beautiful results. I'm 64 yrs. Old & my skin looks pretty amazing better than my 50's for sure . I can also tolerate it on my skin sparely. My question is I want to move to the 0.50 strength ( middle ground ) If I decide to go up a notch would I have to use as when I first started. VERY SLOWLY I did once a week for a month. Now my skin can ONLY TOLERATE 3 TIMES A WEEK . I hope this is not a silly question. Will my skin look even better with a higher dose. I was told by the compound that makes my TRENTION THAT GOING HIGHER WILL BURN MY FACE OFF . He said you look good now why would you want that . Your thoughts please ... & does your face get better with higher strength or it doesn't matter . Sincerely, Frances Baca
