The 458 has my heart because of the Jeremy Clarkson review I saw when I was in elementary school. The Z06 is prob what my brain wants (cheaper, warranty, and etc), but the 458 is what my heart wants.
NA is awesome these days. I have a C7 Z06, supercharged, which is a lot of fun, but I do love the sound of those flat plane NA engines. Thanks for the video!
The Corvette is clearly a better car than the 458 but it's also quite a bit newer. Where the whole C8 line loses out in my opinion is, it's lacking an elegance in its design. The Ferrari be at the 458 or any model or a McLaren look molded. Where the Corvette kinda looks like they stuck parts on it. From the side scoops to the rear end. Honestly, if they just change the rear end and the tail lights, it could move the car way up the food chain . It's just hard to get past the Camaro rear end. Anyhow, not a big fan of mid engine cars because they all tend to look the same but you have to be nuts to buy anything other than Z06 or zero one given the price points . The interior is just heads and tails above the rest of the market.
Unpopular opinion - I don't actually think the 458 flat plane crank V8 sounds as good as most people make it out to be. It's loud and aggressive for sure but it's not musical. It sounds like two of the Honda K20 shouting at each other and not in the nice way, which is pretty typical for a FPC V8(except for 348 & 355; chef's kiss). There are a lot of other engines that sound more like music and not just shouting; Porsche flat-six, Lambo & LFA V10, LS7, Busso V6, Most V12 & straight 6, and even the cross plane crank version of the 458 engine; the Alfa 8C/Maserati 4.2 & 4.7 V8(which are scientifically proven aphrodisiac). I would even go as far as saying that one Honda K20 sounds just as good as a 458 V8. But this is just my opinion, I love listening to music(classical, 80s rock and Ballad, musical theatre). Thus, I preferred musical sounding cars. What do y'all think? EDIT: I want to clarify that I was talking about an intake sound and not an exhaust sound, Which in almost all cars, is the sound that driver here more than exhaust sound.
I don’t think its presence and full profile translates to recorded media well at all. There’s a complex, sharp fullness that’s missing. I’ve been to plenty of shows and meets with all types of great sounding engines displayed by owners and it’s still definitely as special as people say. And sound is big to me; it was one of the reasons I bought a GT350 a few years ago.
@@fzr1000981 good point, I should probably clarify that I was talking about intake sound(it's the sound that you here more inside the car) on all of the engines that I was mentioning; K20 and 458 included. The intake sound of both engines are not so different. As for the exhaust sound(outside the car), let's just say that the 458 exhaust note is more pleasant than the coffee can muffler.
@@hatslapper6860The Z06 doesn’t have fake engine sound, as there’s no digital noise pumped in through the speakers. The outer exhausts are baffled and act as a reverse microphone to pump more of the engine sound into the cabin. The result may be a more refined and smooth sound compared to a 458, but there’s no fake synth at all.
In the video, the Z06 looks fantastic and composed, and you are right, seems wider and heavier. Inside, it could be the significantly more dashboard and tunnel making it seem like "more crowded interior". The steering on the Z06 seems like the buildup is unnatural and artificial (the way its uncertain around the center, and not from road feedback). It could also just be then square wheel exaggerating that. What a car though, Id take the C8 with Z51 and bank the 100k. The C8 Z51 has more torque and I probably very fast on roads like this.
Eh, I mean the Stingray has 5 more ft lbs or torque than the Z06, so it’s not a substantial difference. The LT2 having a lower RPM and thus being able to make its power lower in its rev range is likely a bigger difference, but after probably about 50-60 mph, the Z06 disappears. For everyday street driving though, yeah, you’d really only need a Stingray.
I don’t understand why these reviewers keep saying the C8 Z06 is a $180k car? A base C8 Z06 starts at $112k. The LZ2 package gets you to $120k and add carbon ceramic brakes for $7k. Still sub $130k. Yes you can add the Z07 package for a stiffer ride. And you can add carbon fiber accents for looks? Doesn’t make the car any faster. And the ridiculous over MSRP days are long gone. Fact soon you’ll start seeing discounts below MSRP on the new Z06. Compare the 458 to the new C8 ZR1 and I suspect Ferrari will pale in comparison. As will a lot of exotics.
458 competition is not stingray lol. nobody is deciding buy stingray or 458. I have c8 stingray, c8z and 458. the c8s are better for tracking since it is under warranty. the z doesn't overheat like stingray on track. 458 get alot more respect in the road due to its prestige brand
The harder you drive, the harder I get.
your content gets better every video. 10/10 comparison vid

I traded my ZL1 with that LT4 engine in for the C8 Z07. As soon as I learned about the valve lifter issue with all the LT4s I had to get rid of it.
Great comparison. The Z06 is 15 years newer so it is better in every measurable way, but still a visceral experience
"Which would you rather own?"
Yes.
The cut right at 13:22 with the same rpm before and after was nice :P
Lord knows, I love a stiff chassis

Are you kidding....a 4 banger? You must have a coffee can muffler too

I still think it sounds much better than the racing sim fake engine sound from the Z06. That's really the one place I was let down with the new car.

Talking about steering… I never saw reviewer put C8 Z06 in Track mode. That is where steering is most responsive.
Nice work. Great ep.
Great review! 458 my dream car 🔥
Jubbal will never experience more satisfying steering outside his Emira. Lotus has ruined all other steering 😂
750S is #1 steering in my book, followed by Elise and Evora GT, with Emira trailing not too far behind
The 458 is like eating an authentic Italian pizaa in Naples, and the chevy is like doing so in NYC.
Id still rather rip out the radio and AC from a flat 6 cayman GTS and load a tune

As far as the lines/aesthetics....no comparison...but the Z06 is a great value
you've never seen a z07 in person then. My black z07 looks better than any car on the road

How would you compare the fun factor of the ZO6 vs the Emira driving “legal-ish” speeds on the road?
Emira no doubt. Z06 needs bigger open roads (ideally track) and doesn't have the same level of connectedness when going slower
The 458s competitor is the Stingray. The Z06 is in a different class of cars from performance standards alone.

@@goonthreegtr Performance data is there. The Stingray is a faster car on track. Check out fastest laps.
The Ferrari C8 seems like the better choice
I still prefer the 488 pista because I just love turbo’d engines now nd id get the z06 nd open the exhaust more nd eventually supercharge it
Yeah C8 up shift is better sounding but downshift is the 458 easily that C8 needa a transmission tune when it comes available if it isnt already
Played this video on the side while I was doing something else. 2nd car sounds better
Why does the 458 sound like an 98 Integra Type R?
flat plane v8, a fp v8 is basically two banks of 4 cylinder engines running
458 sounds just like driveclub😤 iykyk
Ferrari is never in trouble. That's just you framing that.
All you need to look at is F1 historically.
All arguments end there.
Q: Did Chevrolet Beat the Benchmark? A: yes, no replacement for displacement is still a "thing".
Great review! Looks like Northern California. What road is this?
Those tires likely aren’t helping the Z06 at all. Pretty weird set up that the owner has on the car.
He's just waiting for the proper size to come in stock on the rears
@@jubbalandcars Gotcha! Thanks for the added context, and great video man!
It's still after all, just a chevy.
A Chevy that has a hand built race motor inside of it, and competes with 992 GT3 RSs on track. Let’s not diminish what is genuinely a fantastic car.
