One of the hardest alternators to do! Done mine today 2012 2.0 tdi 8p no need to undo any engine mounts take the radiator fans of and the front bumper and undo the 8 bolts holding the front end on pull it forwards abit and you have just enough room to pull the alternator out from the top
Thanks for watching really appreciate it. To be honest if I work on non stop for about an hour I should be able to take it off. But I I would say 2hrs to take off
@@TEAMR4ULTV Thanks mate, I don't think I'm going to attempt this, I've only got a couple of jacks to get underneath, there wont be enough room to jimmy the engine back and I don't want to de-gas the AC to move those pipes. Thanks for the videos though they really help. keep it up.
Doing that job at home on the road looks painful.Ive just replaced starter motor on my 2010 Octavia VRS diesel at home.My cars still not starting.I tried another battery and still not starting.I can only think alternators buggered.I noticed cars RPM was higher than usual just before the car broke down and wouldnt start.Im gonna try organise car being recovered to my garage through Rescue My Car.I wouldnt recommend this company as they were reluctant to help me with a recovery when i was 21 miles from home.
I havent im in Huddersfield.Good news is i managed to get my VRS started by connecting jump lead wire on negative battery terminal and other end connected to side of engine as i supected a bad ground that can prevent car from starting. It actually worked so now i can get my car started using this method and drive to the garage.Theres nothing obvious to see no corroded or broken wires.Could be a relay/fuse.
looks identical to my Skoda Superb my alternator has lost its smart function but still works still charges just need a tap of the throttle when starting the car for it to charge at 14.4v if i don't tap the throttle it will sit at 11.5v or till the car moves so not looking forward to doing it great video couldn't ask for better
I know exactly why you have this issue. It's not the alternator. There's a wire coming out of the alternator, follow it across the front of the engine to near the gearbox and there is a green connector plug. It will be broken near the plug. Just resolder it and you'll be good to go.
Great video. I am looking to change the alternator pulley but I am having a very hard time inserting the special tool down the pulley hole due to the body of the car being in the way. Is there any other way to change the alternator pulley without having to remove the whole alternator? Thanks
nice I usually take off the front end and put the car in service position then it comes out the front. But this might be even easier except for the coolant all over yourself. Yuck.
Unreal how difficult this is, the center mounting to move the engine to get to the bolt?? Audi overengineering. For toyota you take the front bumper off and you got to the alternator immediately.
My car would start up fine and drive perfect then when I cut it off it'll take about 30-40 minutes to start back up. I recently tried to start my car back up and it didn't turn over

This is unreal how difficult just to replace an alternator. Never come across one on any other vehicle this difficult
Excellent vid, thanks you , would it of been easier if you took the cooling fan out ?.
I think maybe a lot easier but i think to take the fan off is quite hard
czy wymiana regulatora napięcia też taka trudna ?
And thank you for the video it did help me 👊🏻
Thanks for the video. How long did it take? just weighing up what the labour cost would be and how much I'd save.
