I think I was most disappointed in A House at the Bottom of a Lake this year. It had a fantastic beginning, but after the fourth or fifth time there was some amazing creepy build up that turned out to be just a fish, I was so bored I ended up DNFing it. Once or twice, it would have been great, but it happened so often it just wasn't creepy anymore.
What Lies Beyond The Veil was my least favorite book. I dnfed it 40% in because I realized it was just wasting my time and nothing had happened thus far.
My least favourite book was Fourth Wing. To this day I do not understand the hype around that book. For me it is exactly the case of nothing it attempted was done particularly well or was particularly innovative, resulting in just a very meh experience.
Becca, I just wanted to pop in here and say thank you! You’ve inspires me to start reading fantasy/romantasy again when all I’ve been reading is smut 😅 so thank you so much for inspiring me 💕
The Wolf and the Woodman by Ava Reid and The House at Phantom Park by Graham Masterton. Both of these gave me witchy and/or autumnal vibes and the blurbs made me excited, but they were both DNF’d at about 30%
This has made me decide not to read The Intimacy Experiment. I read Rosie Danan's newest release as my first book from her and really enjoyed it, but then read her debut and kinda hated it. So she may be one for me to read from in the future, but not her backlist.
I tried reading The Intimacy Experiment the other year and I DNF’d at around page 30. I just couldn’t get into it at all and after your review, I’ll be selling it on Vinted as I definitely can’t give it a second chance 😂
I read Priest last year as well. I gotta agree with you on her not respecting his vocational choice and then the bold choice to make this a romance with a HEA. One of my least favorite reads for 2023 was Does It Hurt by HD Carlton. I loved Haunting Adeline, but this one was a disappointment for me.
I think my worst book was Blood Crescent, because I swear this was the most confusing book I ever read. I was reading and waiting for it to start make sense and it never did 😅😅
my worst was either We Light Up the Sky by Lilliam Rivera or The Secrets We Keep by Deb Loughead. the first one just felt like the story never kicked off and the characters felt quite 1 dimensional and the second was just kind of boring, no actual big secrets and a touch of ableism (which i should have expected tbh)
I read the Sequel to Priest without ever reading that one which glad I skipped it now, Saint and was one of my fave books of the year. More romance focused then smut focused, better handle on religion even as someone who isn't religious the way it weaved religion and being LGBT was really good.
My only one star of the year was by an indie publisher and I really don’t want to hurt the author or publisher, so my second least favorite was The Light We Lost which seems to be popping off with some of the book-tok girlies. I’m sorry, but I just can’t get behind the toxic relationship, poor communication, constantly pining after some douche canoe while you’re with a perfectly wonderful person. Just not for me.
Here's my worst books Normal people by sally Rooney Crossroads of twilight by Robert Jordan Misrule by heather walter sequel to malice Poster girl by veronica roth The reunion by kayla Olsen The flatshare by beth o'Leary Camp zero by Michelle min sterling End of watch by Stephen king
I started reading a book called “Brother’s Beauty by Rory Ireland. It’s has relationship taboo’s ( incest ) It is smutty ( O..Kay ) Those triggers were mentioned at the beginning so I knew what I was in for, And, although questionable, I wanted to read how Rory was going to write about this. Delicate? 🤔 Yeah, questionable subject. And… can I just say… it wasn’t good
I really didn't like How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie, Babel by R.F. Kuang and In my Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead. I know a lot of people love these books, but they weren't for me 🫣
I disliked An unexpedted kind of love by Hayden stone, A midwinter prince by Harper Fox, and Playing the Palace by Paul Rudnick 😅 I'm sad its all mlm romances.. most of the books of 2023 got a 3 star rating from me (like So this is ever after, the 4th mlm I read which was kinda underwhelming)
Witch King by Martha Wells, I was super excited becasue I have heard so many good things about Murder Bot and this was the first time reading this author. But this book just fell flat for me, and I ended up DNFing it.
My least favourite book was Storm Peak by John Flanagan - I loved his middle grade writing, but this was one of his adult books and dang, he does NOT know how adult women function - he constantly oversexualised them, and just didn't treat them like people, but rather as caricatures. And the plot wasn't all that great either
The Song of the Marked sounds similar to a trilogy written by Brigid Kemmerer that starts with Defy the Night, the last book in the series is just about to be released in January. I know it is YA but I think it might be a series you get on with better than this one book. For you and only you…I read this as a review book and my goodness Caroline needs to bring this series to a close now and stop flogging what seems like a dead horse now book wise. Book 4 was a real ball ache and was such a drag to get through
I really hope you didn't like this one if you've read it so I'm not hurting your feelings, but Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty. Nearly 500 pages of my life I will never get back, and I really hated this book.
My worst book of 2023 was I want to die but I want to eat tteokbokki. I also erase bad books totally from my memory, but sometimes there are these books that just boils my blood. It's a nonfiction about a woman with depression who goes to the therapist. And besides her problems being completely irrelevant and boring (I get that, I must kill my therapist of boredom every week I see her), she also confess at certain point to record every moment of her life, without PERMISSION, including her therapy session... It was just the four longest hours of my life
The unbroken sounds fascinating
Colleen Hoover is someone I'm avoiding like the plague ngl 😂
The song of the marked also sounds cool
In one eyeball and out the other is my favorite thing ever! Will be saying this going forward.

THIS THUMBNAIL IS SO ICONIC
Crave, by Tracy Wolff. I just could NOT.
very thankful I dnf'd the unbroken cause we had similar thoughts
My least favourite book was Fourth Wing. To this day I do not understand the hype around that book. For me it is exactly the case of nothing it attempted was done particularly well or was particularly innovative, resulting in just a very meh experience.

Layla by colleen hoover was so disturbing and weird, wanted to dnf but wanted to see where it went. My first and only one star 🌝
The Wolf and the Woodman by Ava Reid and The House at Phantom Park by Graham Masterton. Both of these gave me witchy and/or autumnal vibes and the blurbs made me excited, but they were both DNF’d at about 30%
heres to fewer disappointing books and far more 5 stars for 2024!
This has made me decide not to read The Intimacy Experiment. I read Rosie Danan's newest release as my first book from her and really enjoyed it, but then read her debut and kinda hated it. So she may be one for me to read from in the future, but not her backlist.
Is that a Rhysand art piece in a frame behind you? If so could you tell me who made it please, i love it.
I also didn't like The Unbroken and I was SOOOO hyped for it.
I tried reading The Intimacy Experiment the other year and I DNF’d at around page 30. I just couldn’t get into it at all and after your review, I’ll be selling it on Vinted as I definitely can’t give it a second chance 😂

The Promise by Damon Galgut. It won the booker prize and the reason was...?????
I think my worst book was Blood Crescent, because I swear this was the most confusing book I ever read. I was reading and waiting for it to start make sense and it never did 😅😅

Interesting 🤔. Never heard of those
My absolute worst book was hooked I just couldn’t. Must say this was also the year I discovered that dark romance is not for me
My worst book of the year was Path of Daggers by Robert Jordan so good luck with that when you get to it :P
My worst book was Chaos in Little Leaf Creek. I’ve blocked pretty much everything about this book out of my mind.
Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare... just didn't work for me!
I read Priest as well and absolutely hated it. I don't really do 1 star ratings, but this book was a 1 star for me and would be my worst book of 2023.
Luckily I have read 0 of these 🥳
My worst read was The Dragon’s Promise because it was such a disappointing sequel after loving the first book (Six Crimson Cranes) 😔
My worst book is a tie between Broken Whispers by Neva Altaj and See You Soon by Lexie Axelson - just no 😂
I read the Sequel to Priest without ever reading that one which glad I skipped it now, Saint and was one of my fave books of the year. More romance focused then smut focused, better handle on religion even as someone who isn't religious the way it weaved religion and being LGBT was really good.

My least favorite book of 2023 was The Serpent and the Wings of Night🥲

Understandable. Never read them

Imperium by Robert Harris the world building just wasn't there

I'd say my worst read of 2023 was Switch by A.S King 😬 I don't even know how to describe that book, it was just...no 🤷♀️
My worst book of the year was Hemlock Island by Kelley Armstrong. It was brutal to get through.
Wildfire by Hannah Grace and Night Shift by Annie Crown. Did not like those books😅
I really hope you didn't like this one if you've read it so I'm not hurting your feelings, but Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty. Nearly 500 pages of my life I will never get back, and I really hated this book.
The Shadows by Alex North was a huge disappointment
I did not enjoy The Crane Husband by Kelly Barnhill. It may have just been too much on the weird side…glad it was a real short read.
My lest favorite book was Haven by Emma Donahue it just could have been so much more and I felt like it just kinda flat lined
I read divergent for the first time and I would say that was my worst book I think I was just to old to enjoy it but I liked the movies.
🌹🖤🌹🖤🌹🖤🌹
House of Hunger was awful.
My worst book of 2023 was I want to die but I want to eat tteokbokki. I also erase bad books totally from my memory, but sometimes there are these books that just boils my blood.
