Will is one of the best songwriters in the business currently. I love the direction he and the band have taken on the new album. This album and the last have just been unbelievably good. So much better than they even needed to be. It's sad to see the number of people in this comment section that are not understanding the significance of this band and what they have accomplished. Will has nothing to prove. He's not riding anyone's coattails. He's not trying to change the world or be in some kind of competition with other bands or songwriters. He's just creating art and it's beautiful to watch.
Thankful for KEXP exposing me to music I've never heard every single day!
It's horrendous to think that the world was probably literally a breath away from being denied the talent, passion, and intellect of this amazing man!
God wanted him extra special ... life would require him to take many stands for righteousness. It takes a trip to Hell to learn such techniques.
Reference to something in this video? I have not watched yet... or in his personal life? Context of your comment?
Will had to have a tracheotomie and almost died! He wrote a song about other people who have had the same thing happen. @@mry82
Kexp like when is king gizzard gonna drop. Again I love y'all so much but I don't have a lot of stuff to look forward to.❤❤❤❤
hope it's dropping real soon - remember Stu always does the audio post production, so that might be one of the reasons it's taking a little longer... Worth the wait!
Yesss, hope it's soon
now
Just fantastic! Great songs, lyrics, singing, playing, arrangements, just everything very artful!
Saw them with Wilco awhile back...what a treat.
Beaux arrangements, belles recherches sonores belle découverte !!! Great poetry in you
I'm a fan of theirs all the way from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Just another shout to Brian Beattie. Great musician and producer. His band in the 1980's, Glass Eye, was great. Especially their record Hello Young Lovers.
Waterloo Sunset
Dirty old river, must you keep rolling, rolling into the night
People so busy, make me feel dizzy, taxi light shines so bright
But I don't, need no friends
As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset, I am in paradise
Every day I look at the world from my window
Chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine
Terry meets Julie, Waterloo Station, every Friday night
But I am so lazy, don't want to wander, I stay at home at night
But I don't, feel afraid
As long as I gaze on Waterloo Sunset, I am in paradise
Every day I look at the world from my window
Chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine
Millions of people swarming like flies 'round Waterloo underground
Terry and Julie cross over the river where they feel safe and sound
And they don't, need no friends
As long as they gaze on Waterloo Sunset, they are in paradise
Spot on Frank. Cheers.
he sings about Ray Davies, the guy who wrote Waterloo Sunset, hence the allusion via the melody.
im sorry if you already knew that and this comes off as passive aggressive, just took me a few listens to catch and understand.
Is this some kind of Lo-fi Pulp? :D It's great
Some of the earlier stuff - especially on The Silver Gymnasium - legit sounds like just that, Lo-fi Pulp. In a good way.
Dude looks like Adam Savage.
Delicious music 👏👏👏
The second song seems like John Lennon singing a George Harrison song. It gives me that vibe.
Pure Lambchop vibes, too!
Does anyone know what synth/organ is used here? (not the singer's Korg)
Legend..
Did they purposely rip the Kinks - Waterloo Sunset riff in the first song? I heard him say “Ray Davies had a tracheotomy” so I’d imagine it was on purpose
obv
Okkervil River love nods like that.
I want to be Will Sheff when I grow up
Летово-Леннон
С первой минуты просмотра такая нить ...
Lennon, is that you?
I hear some Jacobites here....
They are great. But holy crap that first song is such an unabashed Jonathan Richman rip, it's almost painful. No, he's NEVER heard the Modern Lovers. Or read a book. I'm mad now. Tomorrow, it wil be my new favorite song.
I
Kinks anyone?
What is the guitar?
Frank Thorne old Japanese guitar with microphonic pickups. I have a very similar one.
First
ketchup espacial?
Makes me want to bathe.
Bit of an EELS thing going on here.
A lot like the lyrical style of Mark Kozelek of red house painters and Sun Kil Moon
Guessing this guy likes father John Misty
The first Father John Misty album came out 10 years after the first Okkervil River album.
I imagine Father John Misty likes Okkervil River.
Holy shit, I haven't followed this band in years and Will is looking r-r-r-rough. Dunno about the music, too...
