I had the pleasure of stumbling upon this place last year on a motorcycle trip through upstate NY. They have made a lot of small detail improvements. Sound effects, lights. They even had the cloud creature (smoke) from "Obsession" come out of the vent, just like in the episode. I was like a little kid. It's too cool.

They've got to do something about that white Family Dollar drop ceiling that's still hanging above the set. At the very least they should paint it black. It takes a person out of the illusion by reminding them they are in a strip shopping center.

I am from the UK and I grew watching the Original Series when it was first Broadcast on the BBC in 1969. Seeing this Vid brought a tear to my eye so many Childhood Memories.

Many years ago I got to sit in Captain Kirk's actual chair from the series, and I've got the photo to prove it. Then I stood in the actual transporter set on the discs. It was trip! Will never forget how cool that was.

What was that experience like? How authentic did the sets look?

    • @soslothful

@@TomKellyShow The sets looked exactly as I remember them from watching STOS as a teen in the late 70s. As a fellow tour taker declared, "I'm aboard the Enterprise!" There was a section of the tour were assorted props were on display. One stood out, the phasers rifle used in "Absolute Power," I was surprised how rather hokey it looked close up. But one must consider decades had past and perhaps not much care given to it. The way the tour group entered the Enterprise was impressive. We were all in a room the transporter sound began there was a bright flash and the doors to enter the ship opened. The effect was fun and convincing. There was also a ride on a shuttlecraft. A large screen with impressive visual effects made the launch and space travel seem real. There was a photo op in the Captain's Chair at the end. I was wear overly long jeans with upturned cuffs and hold my printed tour materials. I Look pretty goofy. This bit of inattention is my only regret. The guide was knowledgeable and pointed out various staging tricks like the mirrored warp engine room. Mom and I had lunch in Quark's Bar afterwards. I embarrassed myself by not being able to recall "Andorian" when seeing one of the bar patrons and said, "I cannot recall your race." Gads!

I think they should have a Star Field Screen Saver (like Windows XP) on the Bridge main view screen at all times, or maybe some of the buttons on the consoles could change the video to other things like orbiting a planet or a battle with another ship.

Last year my wife, brother, his wife, and I were just killing a day driving around Lake George trying to find the hotel my parents took me and my brothers to back in the first half of the 70's. By the time we got to Ticonderoga, at the northern point of the lake, the fort was closing. (For Revolutionary War buff's, stop there too.) So we start through town and we see this cheesy roadside sign about the Star Trek Tour. A quick U-turn later and we were in a parking lot of what looked nothing more then an old strip mall, with the Star Trek Tour sign over one of the stores. Expecting to be disappointed, we went in and took the tour. It was Freaking Amazing! Some of the items there were from the original set, while others were new recreations. They explained that this was a set tour, so ceilings were open and some walls, never seen on the series where the camera used to sit, were "intentionally left blank". Fans will want to touch everything, but that's not allow. But you can sit in the captain's chair and take a selfie with a big, nerdy, happy smile on your face.
So for those who are fans. GO SEE THIS. For those with Revolutionary War friends, go see the fort first and then "just happen to find" this place.

Good piece. Thank you for not snarking about this. I crewed on a couple of this group's fan film productions (before they moved to Ticonderoga from Port Henry), and it was an extraordinary experience.
For someone who watched the old show dozens of times (if not more), you set foot on that Bridge set and you don't bump into the furniture because you already know where everything is.

Yes, just did the trip...well worth it, I was pleasantly surprised. Good experience, I had learned lots from the tour guide and also got to ask a lot of questions about the materials used to make the set. My advice is to plan ahead and stay at a nice hotel at a larger urban area or the Lakes, (not a cheap one near Ticonderoga) then drive to Ticonderoga next morning to view the Star Trek Tour at your appointed time and also take in a tour of Fort Ticonderoga.

My wife, best friend and I just recently, this past early Nov. 2016, took a trip up to Ticonderoga, NY to see the sets from the fan production Star Trek New Voyages/Phase II.
We are a little under 3 hours to get to Ticonderoga, NY.
It's a little sleeper town. I was really surprised that this was the location for a semi- professionally produced fan production of Star Trek.
It was a real warm day for early November!
The cost of the tour, itself, is fairly inexpensive, for what this is. Only $25 per person!
Very affordable and there are 2 very affordable places to eat in town if you want to eat some lunch before going on the tour.
We got to meet and talk with Mr. James Cawley (Capt. Kirk) and he was a real nice and down to earth guy to talk with!
These set were nothing short of awesome and done real. Even with up close scrutiny.
Lots of attention to even small onscreen details that get rarely seen by the camera.
There were lots of little things and details that are there in these sets that will never, ever get picked up by the camera.
Things like small screws and other conventional fasteners and such.
There were not very many fans touring those sets that day.
    So, the tour went long.
I was just like a kid in a candy store who was just given the keys to look after the candy store, even if it was for only a couple of hours!
While I didn't think to take any video, the lightning of the sets was sufficient enough for still photography and I took about 200 images, or so, of these sets and all of the various details!
Some sets are still a work in progress. The New Voyages team are still finishing up building the Engineering Room (they never had the budget or time to build this set for their fan series), but now that they are an official Star Trek Tour sanctioned by CBS, they can ask for money or get the needed funds to complete the Engineering room set, Auxiliary Control Room set and the elevated Emergency Manual Monitor set that overlooks the main Engineering room sets.
What they have for the tour though is nothing short of fantastic!
The red alert lights and sound are wired up to every intercom panel and red alert light on thees sets!
The sets still make you feel like your are walking around a real space ship despite the filming/minimalistic building practicality of how these sets were built and laid out on a sound stage.
The tour guide had always stressed during the tour the "only sets and things were built for the show Star Trek that were going to be seen by the cameras and nothing more!"
My best friend and I, like most fans of the original series, already know much of the history and background of the Original Star Trek Series. So, neither one of us really stayed with the tour guides! I just spent most of the tour hanging around all of the sets and taking lots of photo/images.
Got some with my wife and I my best friend an I and some with just me.
The corridor sets, what they had built of Engineering and the bridge set were just fantastic!
This is a day that all three of us will never forget! I can't wait to get back to see the rest of the completed sets next year!
It was really surreal , after all of these years, to have an opportunity to walk through the Enterprise and all of her various room after watching this series on TV and online for all these years!
It was really a childhood fantasy that finally came true.
These sets, and the sets from Star Trek Continues, are the only sets in existence that nearly, exactly duplicate the original filming sets from the original 60's television show, that just transports you and your imagination back to the 60's when you were just a kid watching the original Star Trek on TV and finally living out that fantasy, on some level, by actually walking though your television, into these sets and inside the world of a intergalactic starship!
A day I will never forget!
A great video you made, guy!
It was great to see these sets in an actual video.
I'll have to do the same when I return!
    Hope you had fun, too!

I wish I was closer, I'd make that trip if I were a few hours from it. One more thing, when you sit in the captains chair, you have to cross your legs casually like Jim used to do.

The original series will continue on for eternity. I used to see it in reruns beginning in the 80s to this day.

a recreation built to the real blueprint specs of the OG show. So its close to the real thing as one will get. Considering I have sat in that chair on a similar bridge for a star trek set tour that stopped in my city, they actually had the main viewer on and it was the view of Earth in HD glory. it was worth the price of admission.

I've sat in the recreation captain's chair they used for the holodeck scene in "Relics", it was part of a Star Trek exhibit that toured the UK about 20 years ago. My bottom and the late James Doohan's bottom have sat in the same chair! 😄 Kinda surprised they actually let people sit in it, to be honest. Also saw various filming models for ships, it was really neat. Great video, live long and prosper Tom! 🖖
