Gotta say, I bought the DD500 and haven’t looked back. It’s a truly inspiring pedal in my opinion. The A/B Simultaneous function is absolutely amazing, since you can double up on delays and make some original sounds. Found mine on Reverb in mint condition for $250, one of the best purchases I’ve made
I agree.These are your .2 cents.
I moved from Timeline to Boss. Why more features and more controls would be something wrong? If someone does not need that many features and possibilities then just don't use it.That little screen on Timeline made me move away.Boss DD-500 is absolutely amazing in every way
Thanks for your videos. They are all great.
As you said, that's your 2 cents worth. But tons of us love the DD-500. It takes a bit of work to learn how to use it effectively, but it's time well spent, IMO. To me, the Strymon pedals have a distinct sound to them, and that's part of why I prefer the DD-500. I don't want the same sound as everyone else.
You might want to revisit this review since the firmware update, and also include a review of the editor/librarian software for it.
I love your channel and your work, but I don't always agree with you, but that's good, it means you're being honest. Keep up the good work! :-)
Henning, once again, you helped me exactly with what questions I may have had and questions I may NOT even have had. wonderbar!
That jam at the beginning! Solid!! It's a great example of what we do everyday here in Nashville and studios all over the world as well. Next time someone ask me what layering guitars means, I'll direct them to this video. You need to put your compositions out on iTunes.
thanks Brett... I have tons of albums people can buy, but they don’t!
For someone trying to decide between this and the others, I have to say that I disagree the dd500 isn't musical. I have owned or used all the big ones, and the DD is easily the best within a mix. Doesn't get in the way and sounds great. The helix on the nemesis is absolutely gorgeous, but the Tera echo, after a few tweaks is equally beautiful. Lastly, the actual digital delay meat and bones of the boss is just like every other boss digutal delay... precise and extremely musical.
Love this dude's videos. Just picked one of these up and so far love it. Makes me want the MD 500 next. Keep up the great videos.
Nice editing. Would like to have seen some of whats in the advanced editor options more (the basics have been shown on TH-cam many times), but it's always nice to get your honest opinion on gear, you have played a lot and can base your opinions on real facts (and don't screw around with brand loyalty and boutique snobbery!)
Lol, these controls remind me of something, well played. Good honest zany review as always. Some lovely playing here too henning, thanks.
I like the factor musicality! Great that it is mentioned here
you do make me laugh , ive just bought the boss dd 500 and boss gear has always been great, great review
does the looper phrase sync (and quantize) to midi clock?
I completely understand your 2 cents, but I own the DD-500 and I am happy with it, it does a lot more than I need but I like its tweakability, potentials and his interface, and so his price. This i my 2 cents :) - Anyway, it would be great to hear a face to face comparison between the analog algorithm of the DD-500 and the real BOSS DM-2, no one 'till now have done this.
Yep the DM-2 setting nails the repeats on the DECO
WOOOW der absolute Wahnsinn was Du spielst!!!!! Echt Cool Alter .........!!!!!!!!!! LG from Germany
could have listened all day to that uplifting playing in the beginning...
Probably the most powerful delay unit I've seen/heard to date for guitar instruments, but I'm happy with my simple DMB as I only use delay in specific parts of my music.
Hi Henning, nice video as always! I missed the Flashback X4 by TC Electronic in your comparison, where would this fit in your ranking?
+Carsten Hau The TC is not in the same league in terms of complexity... well... with the editor.... kinda... but it is still a different kinda box....
+EytschPi42 I use a alter ego x4 for my delays (same hardware as the flashback x4, different presets emulating classic analogue delays), Henning has reviewed the smaller alter ego pedal a while ago (basicly the same sounds there). pretty straight forward, simple to use, stereo ins/outs, has a 40sec looper. the toneprint editor is very nice to dial in whatever you want and save it as a preset. it also has (limited) modulation to add to the delay sounds. I'm quite happy with it, for the price it's really ok and does it's job, i like the overall tone and sound of the pedal. But like Henning says... different league entirely
Interesting and extremely honest review Henning. Are you following this up with the SA Nemesis review/demo? Have I missed it? As a matter of interest, have you ever reviewed the Korg SDD3000? Any thoughts on it, compared to these others?
I was looking for the nemesis vid too
I have had all 3 and the Boss DD-500 is my fav, it's a keeper. Actually was comparing and try see if need a Volante and I think that is a no too
Another 45mins of life spent, I was really impressed with the intro song showing the delay settings for each guitar part.
I understand what you mean about the Timeline makes you feel more inspired, that is the bottom line, nothing else matters as much when buying any piece of gear.
i bought one of these and in stereo mode theres a a fx loop and direct mode pannable is that so you can run it in the fx loop of one amp and in front of another
I have this delay, using on acoustic guitar. Nice item but I need more time and will to tweak adjust play 😊
hi. mir ist aufgefallen dass nan das cleane signal nur auf der linken Seite hört und rechts dann die ganzen delays etc. kommen....
Bought one of these a couple of days ago to use for atmospheric, ambient worship music stuff. Half the price of the Timeline and with additional interesting stuff. I'm with most of you. I'm flummoxed as to the complexity of it but it's really powerful and in 2 banks of presets I was blown away. If you're obsessed with Strymon I can understand but the DD-500 is impressive and entirely atypical for BOSS. Now, to get down to programming it........
Hi Henning! I'm new at this and I need some help. I can't find any info on this.
How do I assign a midi channel on a Boss DD-500, MD-500 or RV-500? All
of them are linked between each otherwith MIDI cables and connected to
the ES-8. The DD-500 is in loop 8, MD-500 is in loop 7, RV-500 is in
loop 6
you have to change the midi channels of each device in the Midi Menu
@@EytschPi42 How do I do that? What parameter on the menu? I'm so new to this and there's not any example on this on youtube on the Boss-500 pedals on where/how to do this and the manual doesn't say anything about it either. I'm not gonna dig in to the advanced stuff on the E'8 or the Boss-500 pedals. I bought it only to retrieve patch setting for differn't presets. I wonder if you could make a simple video with multiple boss pedals on how to do this.
It looked pretty easy on the strymon pedals to assign midi channels.
Great review man!!Very real!!!Does the Boss do two presets at once?Would you prefer it over the Nemesis for that? Thanks!!
Yes, it does!
but does it self oscillate and let you pitch the oscillation with the time knob
nice video man, as always!!!
I actually like that it has all the editing options within the pedal itself, and even though there's a lot to choose from, i would rather have this than being dependent on my laptop or ipad, and i don't find it that difficult really, you can make it as difficult as you need it to be, and the same thing everyone used to say about timeline when it came out. Although, i agree that it still sounds like boss, which might not be as sweet as timeline, but this time you can tweak it however you like, and it has balls, like all boss pedals do.
Great video! What is the name of the guitar model?
More coffee mugs with the little thingies on the bottom!!
Hmmm, I might just have to dig up the old DD3 and put that in the chain next to my Memory Lane. Very fancy box with a ton of options that's for sure, But honestly not the sounds that i'd use and not already have.
That said, very nice production again man.
Unrelated, if you had to pick one amp and say.. 6 or 7 pedals from your entire arsenal to play anything between Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden, what would your pick be? :)
have you tried the zoom MS-70CDR
I have one, I like it.
Listening to your 2 cents I can’t really compare the pedals as I haven’t played them all. BUT I can say that I’ve never heard or played through a Strymon I liked. They are very cold, sterile, and uninspiring. Based on that your 2 cents actually makes me think the DD 500 may be what I’m looking for. So even though we may disagree this was helpful. Thank you.
Hi,
In your opinion Source audio nemesis or Boss dd500....which one would be better in terms of sound quality ( basic delay types) for live performance ?
Nemesis... clearly!
sigh. Boss DD-500 actually is pretty damn powerful, but its interface, though usable, is archaic. As in its old school. Every time I played around with the settings I got frustrated and wished it had some kind of computer/mobile app for me to see what I'm doing and change everything quickly. The main frustration is naming the damn presets. You take more time naming and organizing than actual playing. If this was 2005 then I'd forgive this, but we're in 2016 and technology should make things FASTER, not slower. I basically only copied presets that were talked about in TGP forum. Though they were good, if I accidently changed any of their settings, i'll never know what I did
+cheeseUout I remember an earlier review by this guy +EytschPi42 where he actually had a Boss Rep in the room. +EytschPi42 mentioned with a USB Interface they Boss should develop a PC Connection Screen and set everything fast. I'm guessing boss is lazy because it is not getting done. +EytschPi42 you heard anything?
Of course BOSS is lazy... Where are the official patch exchanges put out by BOSS? Where are the computer editors? History shows they rarely if ever come out with editors, and if they do it is because they were pressured to do so by their user base and typically their user base designs their own before BOSS even touches it.
cheeseUout Sounds like you should check the SA Nemesis, app editor is great, clear and easy to use
Is it me, or is the syncing on the cams slightly borked. Coulda made some joke about delay but was to lazy to come up with one.
Mr. Henning, what do you think about the TC Electronic Triple Delay? Is it musical to you?
I haven't played it yet!
I have it.Oh yeah IT IS MUSICAL!!!!!Absolute heaven!
I've been looking at reverb and delay units for a while . I don't like deep menu's , I do want midi though . I think I would rather spend the little extra cash and go with the strymons or walrus audio in my opinion they just sound more organic then the boss units .
Sounds nice but that's way too complicated and way too big for my board. I think I'll stick with mxr carbon copy
Its actually super easy to use compared to the Timeline or Timefactor. I've owned all 3 at this point and I only have the DD500 now and its awesome. So many cool things you can do with it, many routing options. Basically what you're saying when you say its too complicated, is that you are too lazy to take the time and read the manual and learn how to use the unit. I had all my delay presets ready within a few hours.
Nice vid. I got the dd 500 instead of the timeline just because people were hyping up the timeline and i wanted something different then everyone one else. Timeline is still on top but...the boss dd-500 can do the same things as the timeline and its way cheaper.
Not exactly
Yes exactly. The Line 6 m9 can do almost about the same as the timeline also.
That's not true,Timeline is unbeatable.
Dont be such a fan boy. All the timeline users will cut their balls off after the software upgrade on the dd500 a few months from now. Dual delay capabilities in stereo, unbeatable you said?
Im not a fanboy but a tone chaser, and to me Strymon's quality and wide stereo image of theirs sound is what bought me.Personal preferences.
What Distortion were you using with the delay
Does it have Global Tap Tempo ?
Yeah sound cool and nice demo, but I'm sticking with my Timeline haha.
Quite the monster but very nice sounding and boy... all those sounds
do same demo for strymon timiline
it is always down to the player, Stave Vai uses the DD500, can't be that un-inspiring
Dd500 , vs all in one multi effects pedalboards .some , came with drums kits.. .....so
How many peds does one need...... guitar rig 5 is good enough for me goin into my roland /edirol UA4-FX HOT TUBE DSP. FX.. out Into my cab.
SA NEMESIS REVIEW?????????????
360P? What is this madness?!!! Hahaha!
@36:12 my2cents
Complicated, complicated and more complicated, in my opinion all the pedals must be easy to operated.
Pee brake???? As soon I heard this i turned off the video!! Who the heck cares about it? Specially man???!!
Sam Vieira let man pee or he explode !!1!
