Love this thing. It's got most every delay sound you could ever want and "tweak-ability" to your hearts-content. You just have to spend-time with it, and Sculpt your perfect sound. Boss has always done incredible delays. Listen to Pete Thorn's new pedalboard - he has his in the effects loop ( I believe? ) Sounds even better.

Might add this to the Studio for mixing for certain songs.

    Stereo?

Yes definitey they missed that... too. However, not too many vintage tape delay units used any kind of stereo at all. They had - maybe at a stretch - a separate dry and wet output. Not until the Roland RE machines or SRE-555 they had stereochorus and different A & B outputs. That was late 70s early 80s.

@@henkehakansson2004 Agreed, it would have been nice had they followed the lead of Strymon and added some type of panning. That said though, if you run A and B patches simultaneously, dual panned delays are easily achievable.

EchoR Type features 4 heads in the following combinations:
    1, 2, 3, 4, 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 1+3, 2+4, 1+2+3, 2+3+4, 1+2+3+4.
Hank Marvin's "Apache" sound uses heads 1+3+4.
HOW ON EARTH COULD YOU GUYS MESS THIS UP?

Yeah, this one stumps me too. Why have all the permutations except this one? I own the DD-500 and it has a kind of love/hate relationship now due to too many bugs, and that it isn't a REAL stereo unit. And the paralell/serial A/B simul modes drives me crazy. They do not have REAL "killdry" either in a TRUE "wet/dry/wet" mix either. And yes I have the latest upgrades, both in firmware, and the editor.
EDIT: However! Since the old Echorec was a mono unit, you can cheat this with doing 2 presets on the DD-500. One with head 4 only, and the other (B) patch with 1+3 and then run A patch pararell to B or even in series. You have to set the delay independently though for each in order to make it click, I've done this with the DD-500 and came really close.

Next time turn the Echo level higher for the listeners to apreciate how the unit sounds.

Maybe they deliberately went shy for that, because too much would reveal the units shortcomings and idiosyncrasies in sound? Obfuscate, cover up thing, smokes and mirrors...

This machine desperately lacks editing of individual heads for level and eq as it would be so much more useful. I took one on trial but sent it back because of this.

@@jonnyanal4031 Most definitely. They just put the EchoPlex in there for something. They are not alone on this one, and I have yet to see any - including Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe - produce something that the original Echoplex was famous for, the "Ray-gun effect". The preamp in this unit is what made it, and no one got that one right either. For "ray gun effects" check out Tommy Bolins work with James Gang (intro to "Standing In The Rain") and on Billy Cobhams classic record "Spectrum".
No matter how you hook up and EXP pedal on this unit DD-500 and adjust and jinx the time setting it will not flow smoothly and get pitched and self oscillate into distortion and get that "cutoff frequency" reminiscent of analog synths, which you could do on a real EchoP unit.
