Empire Strikes Back is my favourite film of all time. I love empire from start to finish. In my opinion easily in the top 5 best films of all time. Best Sequel of all time. Best Movie plot twist of all time. Easily best star wars film. It takes everything that made A New Hope a success and made it a million times better with Empire. Characters progress in this film but also the heroes lose and bounce back in ROTJ. Soundtrack is ace in this film. Love how it expands the lore, introduces new characters like Yoda Lando etc. Empire truly is a masterpiece 10/10
Rating: 100/10 Grade: A+++ Positives: Great action, best cliffhanger/plot twist ever, non-stop entertaining, emotional, only star wars movie to do a love story right, epic, great script, AMAZING dialogue, GREAT VISUALS, great character moments, expands the mythology, great locations, perfectly balanced acts, super fun, great score/music Negatives: None, it's literally perfect
This is definitely my favorite Star Wars movie ever. And I'm not just saying that because it's the popular opinion. I really do love this movie so much. The darker tone, bigger stakes, and of course the big iconic plot twist, really make this one my favorite. Not to mention that while A New Hope shows Vader as a fierce bad guy, this film made me actually fear him. I don't think we would have gotten films like Infinity War if this movie wasn't as good as it was.
1. Empire 2. Hope 3. Return 4. I think Mandalorian will take this spot but I’ll have to wait and see.. and for the rest I don’t care to rank them because they just don’t compare

I have the film poster for this film framed. It's easily in my top 5 favorite films. It was my favorite Star Wars film when I was a kid, and it still is.
usc trojans1987 nice, I’m working on getting all of the poster for the original movies. Don’t have the money for the frames though. I’m hoping to get some for Christmas

Here we go. The Empire Strikes Back, and here are my *first* time thoughts: + Immediately, visual effects are greatly improved. + Takes all of the great dynamics of the first movie and amplifies them greatly. R2 & C3PO play off each other so much more, Hans & Leia are even colder with each other, while Hans and Luke are even closer. Chewie shows so much more heart, and it's all so endearing. + So much diversity in locations, enemies, characters, action, colors. It all manages to fit together so well. + Instantly intrigues us with Luke, while providing comedy with the others. We can already tell that we're going for an ever deeper look into his character. + Score is once again extremely memorable, as John Williams knocks it out of the park yet again. I absolutely agree about the perfect score. + The action is so much more dynamic, and the dogfights are awesome. A standout especially being the fight between Luke and Vader. It's shot and choreographed very well. + Darth Vader is so much more menacing and fleshed out. He makes his mark instantly by nearly destroying the base and killing the previous general. There's a mounting pressure as the ships get closer and closer, then what happens after is pure action. + It introduces so many new amazing elements to the series: Hoth, Yoda, AT-ATs, Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett + These first person dogfight sequences are great. + The locations here are so much more generally interesting. + Yoda is absolutely hilarious, but lovably awesome. + Kenobi's continued existence through the force is great. + It has some similarities to the first in terms of some scenes. A light saber battle between a master and Vader, the master's mentor not revealing who they are. + Another grin for each iconic quote. + Luke's training in the swamp is great for both characters. + Literally Lando's entire first meeting with Hans has been referenced so many times in so many different places, that it's so satisfying to see it all together. + The locations here are gorgeous. + Separating Luke & R2 from everybody else was a great decision and allows simultaneous development and expansion for these characters. + Dang, that Lando twist was something that wasn't spoiled, and it was actually surprising, but made sense for his character. The redemption is equally as satisfying. + I completely forgot about what happened to Hans, but it was awesome. + Even though the moment has been spoiled beyond belief, the 'I am your father' moment is still very impactful. + They actually lose, which is so powerful and fantastic. * The Leia-Solo kisses are random (The spark was there in the previous film, I acknowledge that), but I guess it makes sense to set up her increased sadness for him when his time came. * Luke has no real reason to believe that Vader is actually his father. His words could be a deception for all he knows. There certainly wasn't time in the film to let Luke not believe it right away, but it's still an issue. I know I shouldn't be as concerned of this since it was technically set up, but it just bothers me. Quality: A+, Entertainment: 99 Just like Terminator 2, I absolutely adore this movie. It has similarly become one of my all-time favorite movies ever, and I'm so glad to have finally seen it.

This film is my favorite Star Wars movie and film of all time. I watch the orginal trilogy all the time but everytime I get to ESB I get so excited cause I love this film. Plus the way that they end this film on A MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER is masterfully PERFECT!!! I cant stress this film anymore I absolutely LOVE this film!!! I love Star Wars dont get me wrong but Empire Strikes Back I ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!! I watch this film all the time!!! My favorite film of all time!!! Perfect movie 10/10
The entire chase with the falcon and the empire except for the explosions still hold up which is insane. And because the models are real life things, it feels more real than an cgi starfighter fight in the series.
This is in my top 3. Definitely my favorite Star Wars movie. It holds up extremely well and it’s probably the most rewatchable movie of all time for me and it’s aged incredibly well. It has my favorite score of all time.
The main reason the wampa scene is in the movie is because Mark Hamil had recently got into a car accident and he had a few scars on his face, and this was there attempt to give an excuse as to why they’re there
Here’s my list of them all: 11. Attack of the Clones 10.The Phantom Menace 9. Revenge of the Sith 8. The Rise of Skywalker 7. Solo 6.The Last Jedi 5.The Force Awakens 4. Rouge One 3. Return of the Jedi 2. A New Hope 1. Empire Strikes Back

I love this movie to death. I started watching the star wars movies with the original trilogy and prequel trilogy when I was about seven years old. Now I'm sixteen years old and Empire Strikes Back is without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time. I love this movie and this review. Sean Chandler is the best movie reviewer out there. Thanks for delivering great content man
Even though "A New Hope" is my favorite, "Empire" did have an edginess to it. The whole movie was total chaos the battle on Hoth, Luke being attacked by a "Wampa", Falcon being chased through an asteroid field, Han being tortured, Han encased in "Carbonite" and Luke losing a limb. Oh and finding out his father was not only alive but an evil Sith Lord. Maybe Empire is the best Star Wars film.
Oh yeah, this is an amazing film. I especially love the perspectives that you get from it when looking at it in a new light. When I was a kid, the scene where Luke left Dagoba always seemed like a foolish choice, one that the wiser Luke from ROTJ wouldn't think of making. Now, I see it as a heroic moment, as he knows he isn't ready, he knows he's acting recklessly, he just doesn't care, because all he cares about is saving his friends, despite the possible cost to himself. He actually does something similar when he refuses to kill his father in ROTJ, as both Obi-Wan and Yoda told him it was the only way to stop the Emperor. That's what I love about Luke as a character. Because he wasn't exposed to the Jedi philosophy from an early age, he sees beyond its shortcomings while still learning, essentially, how to be a hero, as well recognize, connect with, and use the force. But Luke's heroism comes from how he cares for other people, not what he learned about controlling the force and using a lightsaber.
Hey Sean! Great video as always. I’ve been following you for 2 years, and you deserve more subs. You are one of my biggest motivators on TH-cam. This is obviously one of the greatest films of all time. There really is nothing bad about it. 10/10
Saw this in high school back in 1980...I remember being blown away by the idea that Vader was Luke's dad...and also remember there was a lot of speculation he was lying. That's why as soon as they can in Return of the Jedi, the script has Yoda confirming it..people really didn't know if they could believe it.
**Daily Struggle meme** Button 1: “EMPIRE IS THE BEST!” Button 2: “A NEW HOPE IS THE BEST!” All of us: “😰😬🤦🏼♂️” Ugh it’s so hard to choose which one is better.
I’m so glad you’re reviewing these movies again! Please also review solo and rogue one, those are still really good films even though they’re not in the skywalker saga
Stars Wars and Empire remain the high water mark for the franchise. I was 10 when Empire came out and went to see it in the cinema at least 10 times. Pretty sure I could recite all the dialogue for the whole movie at one point. I was the perfect age to see the original trilogy as they came out and collected the toys from the beginning. It was a huge part of my childhood.
My only gripe with this movie would be when Luke is hanging at the end and calls for Leia. Does he know that she's his sister and could be force sensitive? He can't because that isn't established until the next movie. It just seems a little forced for the story for him to yell for her there when there was clearly no one around to help him and her sensing him in danger is what led them to go back. Other than that, one of my favorite movies of all time!
Empire strikes back is amazing it’s one of my top 3 favorite movies is the best Star Wars movie of all time and best twist with I am your father and with the ending of seeing our hero’s lose I like but this is a truly sequel that’s part of a trilogy and one of the best frenchies. ( we don’t talk about the first two prequels 😂)
I know that I may get some hate from this, but for me personally, I prefer AnH and ROTJ over empire don't get me wrong this is an amazing film and I do love this film and is in the top 3 for my favourite star wars films. I just prefer Anh and RotJ over this one, Only just though!!!! as I said, still love this movie
1st introduction of Yoda. Loved how is he first show up as a nosy inhabitant disguising the real Jedi master. And I love the scene when Vader blocks Han's blaster and use the force to grab his gun. It's a quick and short scene, but back before all these CG, this is rarely done. This is one of the few Star Wars movie I watch the whole film through. Star Wars, I am not big on the dog fight. And Return of The Jedi, I skip most of the Ewok stuff.
The Battle Of Hoth was an exhilarating sequence and the practical effects were sensational then and still are now. Han Solo and Princess Leia's romance was perfect. Some of the stop motion isn't spotless now. When people say Luke is plain...you are put in his shoes. It is amazing how they did the asteroid field sequence. Yoda is hilarious and a perfect character in my opinion. Especially his dialogue. Do or do not, there is no try. His speaking backwards was a new great thing for film. Also his acts. Dagobah, Hoth and Bespin are fantastic planets. I don't like the jedi cave though when Luke kills dream Vader and his face is in the helmet. Stop motion doesn't look very good in this sequence. The Star Destroyers look amazing. Bespin is amazing to the eyes, so vibrant and colourful. The Carbon Freezing Chamber is perfect, especially "I love you, I know." The lightsaber duels in this film are greatly improved. They are gritty and have high stakes. The "I am your father," moment is the greatest film twist of all time. The ending with Luke putting his new hand round Princess Leia in the Nebulon Bee Friget is beautiful. The music in every scene is in my opinion the best music in all of film. Lando is as great as Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and the droids. A New Hope made me love the main cast, but this film makes me love them infinite times more. Now, I'm a younger viewer, but still, in my opinion, The Empire Strikes Back is fantastic. Perfect... To me, a younger viewer, even with not perfect stop motion, it is somehow still perfect. The best film of all time... It led perfectly to Return Of The Jedi. The score in every scene; the X-Wing being lifted, the imperial march, everything on Bespin and any moment makes this film perfect with every great moment with the characters in A New Hope that were improved. My favourite characters in anything are Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Yoda, R2-D2, C-3PO and Lando. Anymore and I'll be ranting forever. I am ranting about the perfect film. The Empire Strikes Back can not be improved or surpassed by anything. Well, maybe... the brother and sister kiss... of Luke and Leia. I don't care about that...
This is definitely my favorite Star Wars film. In fact, the making of the original trilogy is probably more interesting than the films themselves. I absolutely love this one, because it could have failed as a sequel, and it works surprisingly well as a story, where the heroes split off into groups and go on various quests, only to join back up at the end where they fail, and it ends on a cliffhanger ending. Empire works so well because this template actually WORKS here, unlike today where everyone and their grandmother is copying it...and failing. As you mentioned, I love all the characters’ arcs here, the deeper themes that resonate with you, that twist that is still so horrifying today (my dad is the Adolf Hitler of the galaxy!), and you’re not alone in preferring more practical effects to sometimes awful CGI. Also, I love Harrison Ford’s improvisation of the “I know”; so iconic! And did y’all know the asteroids were potatoes?? I could gush about this film all day, but it’s obvious that it’s not just a perfect sequel, it’s a perfect movie, period! (Even if you point out the odd incest in these films.)
My skywalker saga ranking: 1.) Empire Strikes Back 2.) New Hope 3.) Force Awakens 4.) Revenge of the Sith 5.) Return of the Jedi 6.) Last Jedi 7.) Phantom Menace 8.) Attack of the Clones
I generally flip between Ep 4 and Ep 5 as my faves. I currently land on Ep 4 as my favorite of the series. I love a lot about Ep 5 - I think this movie shows off Han Solo at his best - the wit, swagger and charisma. Han Solo is by far my favorite movie character of all time. My one issue with Ep 5, which is why it drops is everything on Degobah. First, let me say I understand the purpose of these scenes - I've just always found it to be very slow and boring in contrast to the rest of the film. Besides that - I do love this film and it is one of faves in the series.
No way the Dagobah stuff is great! So atmospheric, Yoda puppet is great, and the scene where Luke fights a ghost Vader and then the masks blows off and it's his own face inside is brilliant.
I have always loved stop motion and im 15 years old, i am so excitd for the rise of skywalker because of they use models not cgi and its really beautiful😊
My only complaint about this film is that we didn’t get enough fighting on the ground during the battle of hoth. I would’ve loved to have seen imperial snowtroopers fighting alongside their walkers against the rebel troopers
“Is it overrated? Is it underrated?”
It’s properly rated as the best Star Wars movie ever.

Empire Strikes Back is worthy of the hype it receives

You speak the truth
its actually better in many ways..people see it as a good film with its structure but it subtly is teaching so many themes...no one mentions this..
I like how Dagobah looks like something just different enough from earth yet still resembles a swamp
This is my favorite movie of all time!

Definitely my favourite film of all time. Holds a special place in my heart.
I love your movie reviews, honestly like the best channel out there for movie reviews.
Best movie of all time. Period
My favorite movie of all time.
Hey Sean! Great video as always. I’ve been following you for 2 years, and you deserve more subs. You are one of my biggest motivators on TH-cam. This is obviously one of the greatest films of all time. There really is nothing bad about it. 10/10
Is that a fresh cut i see over there sean? Lookin sharp
My wife buzzed the sides a few days ago
Me: Hey George have you read Marvels ultimate universe
George: Oh are u talking about twincest that is a great idea I will add that to the script
Who was twincesty in marvel?
Cats of Sherman Ultimate Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver while their possible Father was watching in the backround
@@BozheTsaryaKhrani very interesting. Edgy stuff for marvel
Empire strikes back will always be best Star Wars film
I ranked it number nine out of the twelve movies change my mind
@@meafterigotmyaccountdelete5633 No one will change you mind because your mind is idiotic

I just can’t imagine any Star Wars movie getting better than this. It’s so good and I literally never get sick of it.
Saw this in high school back in 1980...I remember being blown away by the idea that Vader was Luke's dad...and also remember there was a lot of speculation he was lying. That's why as soon as they can in Return of the Jedi, the script has Yoda confirming it..people really didn't know if they could believe it.

Button 1: “EMPIRE IS THE BEST!”
Button 2: “A NEW HOPE IS THE BEST!”
All of us: “😰😬🤦🏼♂️”
Ugh it’s so hard to choose which one is better.
I think ESB because it just feels like the perfect Sequel
Return Of The Jedi is the best
^
Nah, it’s either Rogue One or Revenge Of The Sith
TBH new hope is a bit overrated it action packed and fun but Luke is to Whiny the lightsaber battles were bad and is just nowhere near empire
Yes another A+ must see!!
and still need to watch this movie next for my personal star wars marathon;)
Love that shirt Sean, one of my favorite improvised lines in history
I’d say the empire strikes back is slightly better than a new hope but both of them are great
EPIC my fav one btw is Empire Strikes Back
I only started watching SW 3 yrs ago and Empire is still the best.
I know that I may get some hate from this, but for me personally, I prefer AnH and ROTJ over empire
don't get me wrong this is an amazing film and I do love this film and is in the top 3 for my favourite star wars films.
I just prefer Anh and RotJ over this one, Only just though!!!!
as I said, still love this movie
I'm planning to rewatch every Star Wars movie with my best friend leading up to TROS because he's never seen them.
So Random what kind of friends do you have 😂😂😂 (no offense)
@@vikingfan_8469 If it makes the situation any better he saw episode 4 and 5 a long time ago.
20 years in the daghobah swamp turned Yoda insane.
I love The Empire Strikes Back for me it is easily the best Star Wars movie in my opinion and I'll give it a 10/10
My FAVORITE movie of all time!
Awesome! It’s way up there for me.
oh wow a 100! Thats the first time ive seen you do that
It’s the best Star Wars movie because it brings every Star Wars fans together, which is the best thing a Star Wars movie can do.
Hi Sean I think iv been watching since 10k so iv heard your intro enough times that Iv memoried it
How many films would you max out on that scale
Best Star Wars film and probably the best sequel of all time
22:37 lol Andy 😂
This easily my favorite star wars movie in the franchise
From the original film, the villain was called Darth Vader... Vater = father in German... sounds like Lucas knew what he was doing all along. ;)
This is the Star Wars movie I watched all the time as a child
Have you seen the Vader Obiwan lightsaber duel reimagined? Super cool
This is my 3rd favorite of the star wars movies.
What do you think is the better sequel: terminator 2 or empire strikes back?
@@hadrianlamarche3676 yes empire is better
Luke's Vader vision shocked me and I honestly thought it was the real Vader the first time I seen it.
Excellent movie. While I don’t love it as much as Revenge of the Sith, it’s still amazing. 10/10.
You should review Gremlins and Gremlins 2: The New Batch!
My skywalker saga ranking:
1.) Empire Strikes Back
2.) New Hope
3.) Force Awakens
4.) Revenge of the Sith
5.) Return of the Jedi
6.) Last Jedi
7.) Phantom Menace
8.) Attack of the Clones
Kyle McGowen you lost me when you had new hope and force awakens top 3 smh change thst to ROTS and ROTJ
My favorite movie of all time
I generally flip between Ep 4 and Ep 5 as my faves.
I’m 15 so I grew up with the prequel and sequel trilogies. I still think Episode 5 is by far the best movie in the saga!
personally Empire was always 2nd for me I grew up with the prequels and I always have loved Revenge of The Sith
In my opinion this is the best star wars movie, imagine if the new one is as good as this one
I think this might be the only a+ movie on this channel
Empire strikes back is the best Star Wars movie for sure
My favourite movie of all time!!
