I'm pretty sure that George wanted to get Speilberg on the project, but he declined. I think that he wanted a different director for all of them. But Lucas directing Star Wars is kind of like Kevin Feige directing the mcu movies.

Which he tells the directors what has to happen(like what Easter egg must be included), what can’t happen(a certain character can’t die, or keep out certain scenes), after that the director can do whatever they want with the story. I remember reading something where the original name for character was Kira and that she was pretty much what would turn out to be or rather be the root/inspiration for the character of Rey or something.
@@carter_lovejoy Yes, Lucas was planning to have a female jedi as the lead. I don't know if calling her Kira was part of Lucas' plan, but what I do know is that Rey was originally called Kira and they decided to call him Rey after they had been shooting for a little while, so that change came really late. Since the name Kira was left unused, it inspired Lucasfilm to name the character in Solo as Qi'ra.
@@JoniHD99 But the problem is why he exiled himself and the circumstances surrounding the galactic wide conflict, which was very, very different in Lucas' version. His wasn't perfect either, but it's still much better than the one we got.
Everyone is going to have their own vision of the “perfect” prequel trilogy. Yours is quite similar to mine when keeping the main points there; I agree with integrating the clone army and better developing characters’ relationships with Anakin. Even if AOTC wasn’t changed much at all it makes that film much more bearable. As for potentially having a gladiator sequence, I believe it would need to be a pod race. This would showcase Anakin’s excellence when piloting. In terms of changing the story mostly, I believe including some mystery involving Count Dooku’s defection from the Jedi Order would be really cool, as we know in AOTC he was working with the Trade Federation and Banking Clan. Thus, the attacks later in the film you allude to would warrant him to call Palps and request his assistance, introducing Darth Maul. This may seem like too many Sith, but I believe that if you do not introduce Dooku as a Sith YET and just as someone who doesn’t agree with the Jedi, it could work and potentially add an emotional stake with Qui Gon, since Dooku was his former master. Having Count Dooku randomly show up without really any prior reference felt really off for AOTC. I get that Palps needed a new apprentice for the Rule of Two, but once again, if Dooku has not become a Sith yet, then it works out fine. Overall, really enjoyed the video Sean. Well thought out and I hope this series continues, throughout multiple franchises.
I agree with the second thing, but the first thing, no. Lucas purposefully juxtaposed Vader's suit scene and Padme's death to show how the life essence was transferred and how one dies the other rises. The exact moment Padme's heartbeat stops, Vader and his breathing starts. The med droid couldn't interpret it properly, that's why it attributed the extreme sadness she had at that point as the cause of death (it's a real thing anyways, Broken Heart Syndrome).
I’m not necessarily opposed to Darth Maul dying my problem is Dooku wasn’t introduced in first movie and die so early in 3rd. Felt like Dooku should’ve been introduced as a Jedi Master on the council.
I think Jar Jar could have been a cool character, he could have been like swiper an outcast theif who's like a Han Solo type in the story who has a change of heart and fights for the republic.

Couldn't agree more, Sean! This was the most frustrating thing about this film is they nailed the music, the vibe/atmosphere and the characters (Qui Gon, Obi wan and Darth maul in particular) and even had a superb end fight, but ultimately ruined it by the things you said. I think these changes could have made this possibly one of the best films in the saga!
Honestly if this film just had 1. An older anakin 2. Made jar jar not jsut child comedy but a hero, they don’t need to remove him just make him competent and not doing something dumb that doesn’t fit for a cheap laugh every 3 minutes. 3. Utilized mcgregor and Nesson more. Don’t even have to change the plot and this film would all ready be 10 times better
I saw some guy (I think it was belated media) did the entire prequel trilogy and while phantom menace was largely the same, he almost entirely rewrote attack of the clones and revenge of the sith and I thought he did a great job. However he really only talked about story; you went a lot more in depth and that was really cool to see, great work!

The way I see this, you'll definitely have to adjust these next pitches to the Clone Wars TV Series... Whether assuming Dave Filoni got to finish the series as he originally planned or not is your call... But here are some considerations below as to what you should think about as you correct Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (I won't blame you if you don't read these long comments...) 1.) Try in the second film to have a rivalry between Obi-Wan and Maul that still ends with his legs getting cut off so Maul's introduction to the Clone Wars show still makes sense or acknowledge which episodes of the series is gonna get remade and how... 2.) Develop Clones such as Rex and Cody, who are very close to Anakin and Obi-Wan respectively, especially Cody since Rex goes to the Siege of Mandalore and as it stands, Cody shoots down Obi-Wan... 3.) Address exactly how these events collide with the current series and what story arcs may be impacted or not... 4.) Maybe display the kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine at the end of the new Attack of the Clones pitch. In the old 2003 series (before Dave Filoni's version) there is a really strong episode there that displays the kidnapping attack on Coruscant as a whole. This should be somehow adapted to fit your idea of how the saga gets improved, hopefully... 5.) If you see this Sean, thx again!
Well according to Ben Kenobi, Yoda trained him, so we don't need Qui-gon at all! Christopher Lee was way cooler than Maul, so his fourteen lines of dialogue aren't needed either!
LumiNyte I’m sorry but I never got the Qui-Gon love. Even in the shows he was so uninteresting and stale to me. Maul on the other hand became a fantastic character due to the clone wars

I love all the ideas, this is how it SHOULD have ended up as the true final film, not the cringe-inducing juvenile boring film we got in 1999’s The Phantom Menace. Thank you for properly fixing this nostalgia filled almost-disaster of a prequel movie! I thoroughly enjoyed this epic pitch for a proper first Star Wars Movie. You rock, Sean, and your ideas were infinitely better than what we got. I really hope that you can get to make a feature length movie someday and see ya in the next video!🙂👍
What about the podracing? And any of the Qui Gon scenes for me are worth it too, he has the best one liners and the way he carries himself is pretty awesome.
Sheev Palps I kinda found the pod race boring, and I will admit Qui Gon and Obi Wan we’re the best characters in this movie, and admittedly Liam Neson and Ewan Mcgreggor we’re able to do better with the odd dialogue than others, but besides maybe 2 or 3 scenes with Qui Gon I found good(including the fight against Darth Maul)I still wouldn’t find those scenes worth watching. The fight though I find more worth while because of the score, the choreography, it’s not too long, does utilize silence in some parts, and there’s also the cooperation between Obi Wan and Qui Gon as well as something more interesting to fight than droids.
@@michaelnally2841 I like the way TPM plays into the larger saga and sets up the themes and plots for the later ones. The reason I love Duel of the Fates so much and pretty much the tension of the third act is because of the way the film was building up to that moment. They overdid the political scenes, but they could have kept the important ones and it still could've been that good. Overall, I do like the other two prequels and the originals better than this one, but I seriously love Qui Gon and Obi Wan too much for me to just skip the first couple acts.

5:13 I agree. Darth Maul should've not been cut in half. He's too quick for that to happen. Tossing him down the pit uncut could've been the way to keep his plot open for the sequel, as if you don't see him die onscreen, then he can be brought back. Solo 2 the movie would've been cool with old Maul. The only hope is the Obi Wan series features Maul as a villain.
This is perfect. I never once got angry at you. (Which is good) It was the perfect balance of criticizing starwars while also displaying your love for the series. I think Anakin being that young makes sense. He is right at the age where boys are the most connected with their mothers so it would probably be a heart break for every little boy to be "taken away" from their mothers. Plus, that's one way to show how Anakin was trained from a very young age, so it once again makes sense why he is so powerful in ROTS and the Clone Wars. And obviously it creates a very strong connection between the character and the audience if we follow their life from the moment of their birth (or in this case their childhood) to their death. Yeah the relationship with Padmé and the space battles didn't make too much sense but you get what I'm trying to say. As for myself I wouldn't change anything in this movie, I'm not a hater of the sequels by any means, but I would definitely watch this over than any of the sequels!
I’ve been waiting years for someone to make this video. As someone who wasn’t alive for the prequels, I can still imagine being a fan of the OG trilogy and be so excited for phantom menace, and seeing this

Found the video interesting and entertaining just hate when people say "This is how they should have done Episode 1" cause first off that's not impressive to look at a finished product that's edited together scored and with visual effects and time to think about it what's impressive is on the day deadline is getting closer and closer money is being spent and having the foresight of what it's going to look like what it's going to sound like and saying on the day this is how we need to do it that there is talent

I found that by simply removing 15 minutes from the film; not even remaking anything, just cutting 10 seconds here and there; it becomes a VASTLY greater movie. Same can be said about episode 2 (just 5 minutes this time tho). IMO they come close to episode 3 with just a few VERY minor fixes
This adds a new dynamic to Obi-Wan and Padme’s relationship that makes Revenge of the Sith even more emotional. I love it , keep up the good work sir I love your hard work ethic and your passion!

Great video!! I would’ve kept Hayden as anakin though, I think he did a fantastic job in revenge of the sith, I think he did the best he could with the script in attack of the clone. There’s not many actors that could’ve pulled off that cringey love story.
The only thing I would do was less Jar Jar in the background, make Anakin a bit older, and polish up some of the acting/dialogue (and the best lines in TPM are quite good btw). The plotline is pretty nice, so all you have to add is Padme going to Coruscant to prove that the Trade Federation is actually a front for the CIS. That way, the war is kicked off earlier. Also Dooku cameo. Most of these things can be added to the movie now to make it better.
@@MovieMicah Eh, the best character (Qui Gon) had a significantly reduced role in this version, and the clone army, which needed proper background, was kinda shoehorned in. Some things, like less background Jar Jar antics, is obviously better. Politics were overdone, but some of the scenes are legit good and it gives the saga more depth in terms of how the galaxy works and connects with each other, as well as why the Republic needs to go.
I really like your idea of casting Heath Ledger as Anakin Skywalker. But did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to play Anakin Skywalker before they cast Hayden Christensen? If the script and direction was a lot better for the prequels, it would've been so cool to see Leonardo DiCaprio as a young Darth Vader in the making, as I'm sure Heath Ledger would've been awesome too :)

Of course it wouldn’t be tyrannus as even if he joined the sith Darth maul would still be palpatine’s apprentice And I don’t think maul would convince jango to lend his DNA as he isn’t as civilized like dooku I still think ur interpretation of the movie is solid
I watched Episode 1 last night for the first time in 10 years. I didn’t hate it. It’s a fun adventure in the Star Wars Universe. However, the lack of character arcs and internal conflict is what really lets it down.
This was amazing. Having the Clone Wars begin as early as Episode 1 leaves a lot of possibilities for storytelling for the rest of the trilogy. That also means episode 1 ends with Yoda saying how the Clone Wars has begun, the act of the Senate going behind the backs of the other systems to create this Clone army leads to many systems deciding to secede and create the Seperatist Army and all the while, Palpatine can be like, "Yup, everything worked out for me in the end." With these two armies at each others throats he can slowly increase his power with the Senate and embed himself inside until it's too late. Episode 2 could then warn the Jedi of the possibility of a Sith within the Senate, starting that storyline, it could further the rivalry between Obi Wan and Maul, and one thing I would change is, have the Clones be the Clones of Boba Fett, not Jango. Jango just feels superfluous when you already have a more established fan favorite that could be even more developed by the prequels.
I'm pretty certain that many people just mean that they have more nostalgia for the prequels than the sequels which makes sense, given that they were released first. It's doubtful that they're seriously suggesting that the sequels are outright worse movies than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones which are mostly mediocre movies when it comes down to it.
I loved this video, because I enjoy writing my own versions of things from time to time (I wrote predictions for Stranger Things 2 and 3, and IMHO they were better than the final products). Heck, some of my predictions were actually accurate to spot-on! It would take me a long time to share how I would fix Episode 1, but the long and short of it is you have some great ideas here for the story, and I have pretty much all the same problems as everyone else. As a kid, I loved the movie but still despised the debates so much that when it came out on video, we would always skip through them. Even today, knowing what they’re setting up, I would still cut most of these talky scenes down!
This was great! I definitely agree with the problems you have and what you would do to fix it. That is why the Phantom Menace is my least favorite live action Star Wars film. A lot of these problems were fixed in the Clone Wars like Anakin and Obi Wan's relationship, Anakin's hate towards slavery, why Anakin doesn't agree with the Jedi Council and why they don't make him a master, and giving Darth Maul way more screen time and making him awesome. That is why The Clone Wars is a LOT better that episodes 1 & 2.
To be honest, the prequel trilogy wasn’t all bad. The ideas, storylines, expansion of the mythology and the character arch’s on paper were brilliant and I appreciate how consistent the prequels are in their direction and vision, it’s the most unified Star Wars trilogy of the bunch, thanks to George Lucas knowing what stories he wanted to tell. The problem with it all is the execution and the writing, as well as the overuse of cgi and questionable directing. Really just fixing all those issues could’ve made the prequel trilogy such a powerful and great trilogy on par if not exceed the original trilogy. Unfortunately we didn’t get that and we get a trilogy with really good ideas and lightsaber fights bogged down by terrible execution. Regardless of your feelings towards the prequels, one thing is for sure, it’s still better than the shitshow disney gave us.
My biggest question is that after Episode 1 and how badly it turned out why didn’t Lucas decide to step back and hire other writers and directors? I know he wanted someone else to do The Phantom Menace but maybe after how it turned out people would’ve been more willing to do Episode 2? Did Fox even try to change things behind the scenes or did Lucas have too much leverage?
Man, Darth Maul is one of the Star Wars - What If? Scenarios. I'm not a fan of Star Wars but you should keep going with these series. I know it takes time, but we all can see you did your research and as long as you keep doing it, these 'How to Fix Movies' will be entertaining videos.

Hit every nail on the head! Every single "how to fix the prequels" video or article I've ever seen I've liked more than the prequels, and that's coming from someone who likes the prequels.
One doesn't effectively destroy the universe and waste 2/3 of the movie for the dumbest and most counter-productive plotlines of all time. Also the worldbuilding, planets, memorable dialogue, plot, and ships are way better.
Sean, you need to make a video about the top 50 movies of all time(in your opinion of course). This could be a 5 part series. It’s what I want, and probably what a lot of people want.
One problem with this film that’s also a problem with Force Awakens is just because it’s the first film in the trilogy doesn’t mean that you’re restrained to just “introducing” things. When you do that you end up having to cram everything in the last movie. A New Hope didn’t make this mistake (even though they really didn’t know they were doing a trilogy lol)

I would add just one thing: Have Count Dooku appear on the Council during the deliberations on Coruscant, and have him be firmly opposed to the Council taking any action. Then in the epilogue show something about him telling Windu that he's gonna be leaving the Council for good.
Here are my thoughts: your video starts amazingly good, as you identify and list all the problems with Episode I - The Phantom Menace correctly. But, even though I completely agree with the removal of Jar Jar and the Gungans, the way you go about fixing the story doesn't win me over. I think that you would actually end up creating a bigger problem that could be a lot harder to fix. How would you get this arrogant and charismatic kid, in his late teens, to respect and look up to Obi-Wan Kenobi when he isn't even a Jedi Knight at this point in time. Their time together would explain the beginning of their friendship, yes. But to change that into a relationship of master and apprentice? I just don't see that happening. Besides, I don't think Anakin would even consider leaving Padme to become a Jedi if their relationship began this soon. I also don't think that the Council would allow a newly-knighted Jedi to train someone that old and that dangerous,... if at all. Secondly, why would you have the Clone Army appear so soon, when it is such a critical move for the Supreme Chancellor to take control of the Republic? And shouldn't the Republic have some sort of an army at this point? One that the Senate would need to vote on whether they should act on any given occasion, even one of little importance such as a blockade on an insignificant planet like Naboo. The only hint we are ever given about their influence in the Senate is that Palpatine feels that their situation will only serve the purpose of getting him a sympathy vote. That is it. On the other hand, the Trade Federation seems to have a lot of pull in the Senate, which seems to be mired in corruption. I would love to delve further into other plot points, but I am currently working on a podcast about movies and this will be the first one I'll be talking about, so I can't really spoil that. I can only promise that, once it is released, it will make a lot of sense.
I think it would’ve been amazing if Darth Maul said to Obiwan “it’s over padawan, I have the high ground”, and Obi Wan loses his legs but survives while Darth Maul makes his escape, victorious and more “menacing” than before. This could set up for an even clearer rivalry of Obi Wan and Darth Maul, and obviously would echo Obi Wan’s victory of Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.

I remember reading something where the original name for character was Kira and that she was pretty much what would turn out to be or rather be the root/inspiration for the character of Rey or something.
@@carter_lovejoy Yes, Lucas was planning to have a female jedi as the lead. I don't know if calling her Kira was part of Lucas' plan, but what I do know is that Rey was originally called Kira and they decided to call him Rey after they had been shooting for a little while, so that change came really late.
Since the name Kira was left unused, it inspired Lucasfilm to name the character in Solo as Qi'ra.

Everyone is going to have their own vision of the “perfect” prequel trilogy. Yours is quite similar to mine when keeping the main points there; I agree with integrating the clone army and better developing characters’ relationships with Anakin. Even if AOTC wasn’t changed much at all it makes that film much more bearable. As for potentially having a gladiator sequence, I believe it would need to be a pod race. This would showcase Anakin’s excellence when piloting.
In terms of changing the story mostly, I believe including some mystery involving Count Dooku’s defection from the Jedi Order would be really cool, as we know in AOTC he was working with the Trade Federation and Banking Clan. Thus, the attacks later in the film you allude to would warrant him to call Palps and request his assistance, introducing Darth Maul. This may seem like too many Sith, but I believe that if you do not introduce Dooku as a Sith YET and just as someone who doesn’t agree with the Jedi, it could work and potentially add an emotional stake with Qui Gon, since Dooku was his former master.
Having Count Dooku randomly show up without really any prior reference felt really off for AOTC. I get that Palps needed a new apprentice for the Rule of Two, but once again, if Dooku has not become a Sith yet, then it works out fine.
Overall, really enjoyed the video Sean. Well thought out and I hope this series continues, throughout multiple franchises.
How to increase Revenge of the Sith's score from B+ to A: remove the DUMB reason of Padme's death and the Darth Vader "NOOO!" moment
I agree with the second thing, but the first thing, no. Lucas purposefully juxtaposed Vader's suit scene and Padme's death to show how the life essence was transferred and how one dies the other rises. The exact moment Padme's heartbeat stops, Vader and his breathing starts. The med droid couldn't interpret it properly, that's why it attributed the extreme sadness she had at that point as the cause of death (it's a real thing anyways, Broken Heart Syndrome).

I’m not necessarily opposed to Darth Maul dying my problem is Dooku wasn’t introduced in first movie and die so early in 3rd. Felt like Dooku should’ve been introduced as a Jedi Master on the council.

Couldn't agree more, Sean! This was the most frustrating thing about this film is they nailed the music, the vibe/atmosphere and the characters (Qui Gon, Obi wan and Darth maul in particular) and even had a superb end fight, but ultimately ruined it by the things you said. I think these changes could have made this possibly one of the best films in the saga!

Honestly if this film just had 1. An older anakin 2. Made jar jar not jsut child comedy but a hero, they don’t need to remove him just make him competent and not doing something dumb that doesn’t fit for a cheap laugh every 3 minutes. 3. I saw some guy (I think it was belated media) did the entire prequel trilogy and while phantom menace was largely the same, he almost entirely rewrote attack of the clones and revenge of the sith and I thought he did a great job. However he really only talked about story; you went a lot more in depth and that was really cool to see, great work!

The way I see this, you'll definitely have to adjust these next pitches to the Clone Wars TV Series...
Whether assuming Dave Filoni got to finish the series as he originally planned or not is your call...
But here are some considerations below as to what you should think about as you correct Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (I won't blame you if you don't read these long comments...)
1.) Try in the second film to have a rivalry between Obi-Wan and Maul that still ends with his legs getting cut off so Maul's introduction to the Clone Wars show still makes sense or acknowledge which episodes of the series is gonna get remade and how...
2.) Develop Clones such as Rex and Cody, who are very close to Anakin and Obi-Wan respectively, especially Cody since Rex goes to the Siege of Mandalore and as it stands, Cody shoots down Obi-Wan...
3.) Address exactly how these events collide with the current series and what story arcs may be impacted or not...
4.) Maybe display the kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine at the end of the new Attack of the Clones pitch. In the old 2003 series (before Dave Filoni's version) there is a really strong episode there that displays the kidnapping attack on Coruscant as a whole. This should be somehow adapted to fit your idea of how the saga gets improved, hopefully...
5.) If you see this Sean, thx again!

I love all the ideas, this is how it SHOULD have ended up as the true final film, not the cringe-inducing juvenile boring film we got in 1999’s The Phantom Menace. Thank you for properly fixing this nostalgia filled almost-disaster of a prequel movie! I thoroughly enjoyed this epic pitch for a proper first Star Wars Movie. Honestly the only scene that I find worth watching in this movie is the lightsaber fight with Darth Maul.
And even that was not nearly as good as the luke and vader fights
What about the podracing? And any of the Qui Gon scenes for me are worth it too, he has the best one liners and the way he carries himself is pretty awesome.
Sheev Palps I kinda found the pod race boring, and I will admit Qui Gon and Obi Wan we’re the best characters in this movie, and admittedly Liam Neson and Ewan Mcgreggor we’re able to do better with the odd dialogue than others, but besides maybe 2 or 3 scenes with Qui Gon I found good(including the fight against Darth Maul)I still wouldn’t find those scenes worth watching. The fight though I find more worth while because of the score, the choreography, it’s not too long, does utilize silence in some parts, and there’s also the cooperation between Obi Wan and Qui Gon as well as something more interesting to fight than droids.
@@michaelnally2841 I like the way TPM plays into the larger saga and sets up the themes and plots for the later ones. The reason I love Duel of the Fates so much and pretty much the tension of the third act is because of the way the film was building up to that moment. They overdid the political scenes, but they could have kept the important ones and it still could've been that good. Overall, I do like the other two prequels and the originals better than this one, but I seriously love Qui Gon and Obi Wan too much for me to just skip the first couple acts.
Sheev Palps that’s great and I’m happy for you. I just get too bored with this one, because of the political talk, how I felt they kinda padded stuff out, some monotone acting, and of course I’m also one of those who’s not a fan of Jar Jar Binks.

5:13 I agree. Darth Maul should've not been cut in half. He's too quick for that to happen. Tossing him down the pit uncut could've been the way to keep his plot open for the sequel, as if you don't see him die onscreen, then he can be brought back. Solo 2 the movie would've been cool with old Maul. The only hope is the Obi Wan series features Maul as a villain.

I think Anakin being that young makes sense. He is right at the age where boys are the most connected with their mothers so it would probably be a heart break for every little boy to be "taken away" from their mothers. Plus, that's one way to show how Anakin was trained from a very young age, so it once again makes sense why he is so powerful in ROTS and the Clone Wars. And obviously it creates a very strong connection between the character and the audience if we follow their life from the moment of their birth (or in this case their childhood) to their death.
Yeah the relationship with Padmé and the space battles didn't make too much sense but you get what I'm trying to say.
As for myself I wouldn't change anything in this movie, I'm not a hater of the sequels by any means, but I would definitely watch this over than any of the sequels!

I found that by simply removing 15 minutes from the film; not even remaking anything, just cutting 10 seconds here and there; it becomes a VASTLY greater movie. Same can be said about episode 2 (just 5 minutes this time tho). IMO they come close to episode 3 with just a few VERY minor fixes

Great video!! I would’ve kept Hayden as anakin though, I think he did a fantastic job in revenge of the sith, I think he did the best he could with the script in attack of the clone. There’s not many actors that could’ve pulled off that cringey love story.
I don’t really think that this movie needs to “be fixed” I actually like it so yeah
The only thing I would do was less Jar Jar in the background, make Anakin a bit older, and polish up some of the acting/dialogue (and the best lines in TPM are quite good btw). The plotline is pretty nice, so all you have to add is Padme going to Coruscant to prove that the Trade Federation is actually a front for the CIS. That way, the war is kicked off earlier. Also Dooku cameo. Most of these things can be added to the movie now to make it better.
Even if you believe that, you have to admit, Sean made it quite a bit better
@@MovieMicah Eh, the best character (Qui Gon) had a significantly reduced role in this version, and the clone army, which needed proper background, was kinda shoehorned in. Some things, like less background Jar Jar antics, is obviously better. Politics were overdone, but some of the scenes are legit good and it gives the saga more depth in terms of how the galaxy works and connects with each other, as well as why the Republic needs to go.
I really like your idea of casting Heath Ledger as Anakin Skywalker. But did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to play Anakin Skywalker before they cast Hayden Christensen? If the script and direction was a lot better for the prequels, it would've been so cool to see Leonardo DiCaprio as a young Darth Vader in the making, as I'm sure Heath Ledger would've been awesome too :)

I watched Episode 1 last night for the first time in 10 years. I didn’t hate it. It’s a fun adventure in the Star Wars Universe. However, the lack of character arcs and internal conflict is what really lets it down.

In the excess scenes, yeah. But the actual Gungan plotline for the Naboo to fight with is pretty cool.

Having the Clone Wars begin as early as Episode 1 leaves a lot of possibilities for storytelling for the rest of the trilogy. That also means episode 1 ends with Yoda saying how the Clone Wars has begun, the act of the Senate going behind the backs of the other systems to create this Clone army leads to many systems deciding to secede and create the Seperatist Army and all the while, Palpatine can be like, "Yup, everything worked out for me in the end." With these two armies at each others throats he can slowly increase his power with the Senate and embed himself inside until it's too late. Episode 2 could then warn the Jedi of the possibility of a Sith within the Senate, starting that storyline, it could further the rivalry between Obi Wan and Maul, and one thing I would change is, have the Clones be the Clones of Boba Fett, not Jango. Jango just feels superfluous when you already have a more established fan favorite that could be even more developed by the prequels.
But Jango is still as good as Boba in the OT though, it just feels like you're shrinking the universe at that point.
What about anakin and padmes relationship how will happen during the war no matter how much u hate it needs to happen

I'm pretty certain that many people just mean that they have more nostalgia for the prequels than the sequels which makes sense, given that they were released first. It's doubtful that they're seriously suggesting that the sequels are outright worse movies than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones which are mostly mediocre movies when it comes down to it.
I loved this video, because I enjoy writing my own versions of things from time to time (I wrote predictions for Stranger Things 2 and 3, and IMHO they were better than the final products). Heck, some of my predictions were actually accurate to spot-on! It would take me a long time to share how I would fix Episode 1, but the long and short of it is you have some great ideas here for the story, and I have pretty much all the same problems as everyone else. As a kid, I loved the movie but still despised the debates so much that when it came out on video, we would always skip through them. Even today, knowing what they’re setting up, I would still cut most of these talky scenes down!

This was great! I definitely agree with the problems you have and what you would do to fix it. That is why the Phantom Menace is my least favorite live action Star Wars film. A lot of these problems were fixed in the Clone Wars like Anakin and Obi Wan's relationship, Anakin's hate towards slavery, why Anakin doesn't agree with the Jedi Council and why they don't make him a master, and giving Darth Maul way more screen time and making him awesome. That is why The Clone Wars is a LOT better that episodes 1 & 2.

To be honest, the prequel trilogy wasn’t all bad. The ideas, storylines, expansion of the mythology and the character arch’s on paper were brilliant and I appreciate how consistent the prequels are in their direction and vision, it’s the most unified Star Wars trilogy of the bunch, thanks to George Lucas knowing what stories he wanted to tell. The problem with it all is the execution and the writing, as well as the overuse of cgi and questionable directing. Really just fixing all those issues could’ve made the prequel trilogy such a powerful and great trilogy on par if not exceed the original trilogy. Unfortunately we didn’t get that and we get a trilogy with really good ideas and lightsaber fights bogged down by terrible execution. Regardless of your feelings towards the prequels, one thing is for sure, it’s still better than the shitshow disney gave us.

My biggest question is that after Episode 1 and how badly it turned out why didn’t Lucas decide to step back and hire other writers and directors? One problem with this film that’s also a problem with Force Awakens is just because it’s the first film in the trilogy doesn’t mean that you’re restrained to just “introducing” things. When you do that you end up having to cram everything in the last movie. A New Hope didn’t make this mistake (even though they really didn’t know they were doing a trilogy lol)
IMO this is the worst star wars movie. I really dislike how boring and how there are only 2 main plot points (anakin is discovered and palpatine is chancellor) if you like it, thats fine too!

I love the prequels, but this sounds even better! I would keep Hayden as Anakin tho, it wasn’t his acting it was the character and the writing that I think made people hate him
I would add just one thing: Have Count Dooku appear on the Council during the deliberations on Coruscant, and have him be firmly opposed to the Council taking any action. Then in the epilogue show something about him telling Windu that he's gonna be leaving the Council for good.
Here are my thoughts: your video starts amazingly good, as you identify and list all the problems with Episode I - The Phantom Menace correctly. But, even though I completely agree with the removal of Jar Jar and the Gungans, the way you go about fixing the story doesn't win me over. I think that you would actually end up creating a bigger problem that could be a lot harder to fix. How would you get this arrogant and charismatic kid, in his late teens, to respect and look up to Obi-Wan Kenobi when he isn't even a Jedi Knight at this point in time. Their time together would explain the beginning of their friendship, yes. But to change that into a relationship of master and apprentice? I just don't see that happening. Besides, I don't think Anakin would even consider leaving Padme to become a Jedi if their relationship began this soon. I also don't think that the Council would allow a newly-knighted Jedi to train someone that old and that dangerous,... if at all. Secondly, why would you have the Clone Army appear so soon, when it is such a critical move for the Supreme Chancellor to take control of the Republic? And shouldn't the Republic have some sort of an army at this point? One that the Senate would need to vote on whether they should act on any given occasion, even one of little importance such as a blockade on an insignificant planet like Naboo. The only hint we are ever given about their influence in the Senate is that Palpatine feels that their situation will only serve the purpose of getting him a sympathy vote. That is it. On the other hand, the Trade Federation seems to have a lot of pull in the Senate, which seems to be mired in corruption. I would love to delve further into other plot points, but I am currently working on a podcast about movies and this will be the first one I'll be talking about, so I can't really spoil that. I can only promise that, once it is released, it will make a lot of sense.
I think Hayden Christianson would've been great in those movies with better writhing. He could have killed it in the movies.

I think it would’ve been amazing if Darth Maul said to Obiwan “it’s over padawan, I have the high ground”, and Obi Wan loses his legs but survives while Darth Maul makes his escape, victorious and more “menacing” than before. This could set up for an even clearer rivalry of Obi Wan and Darth Maul, and obviously would echo Obi Wan’s victory of Anakin in Revenge of the Sith.
