This trilogy would’ve been so much better if Disney stayed with 1 director, either stick with JJ for all three, or chose, Rian for all three, I like the movies but one vision would have been much better
Nicholas Teresko yeah I think if JJ has TLJ to set up this moive, it would’ve been much better, and I think Rian could’ve made an interesting trilogy too, doing both made both worse
100% agree. Even if they did swap out directors still, they picked the worst movie to do it. The middle movie in a trilogy is the worst time to swap out directors because there’s no way the vision from the first film gets carried into the second, and that all complicated the third movie. JJ did a good job with what he was given, but I would have loved to see a trilogy from one of these directors and had that consistent vision
Right when “Directed by JJ Abrams” came up on the screen I said to my friend “Alright, time to watch Sean Chandler’s review!” I got home, pressed refresh on my home page, and this video popped up saying “posted 5 minutes ago”. And a HUGE smile popped up on my face. Love you Sean! Keep talking movies!!!
"That is destiny fulfilled right there!" I only watched it yesterday and had a date till late night afterward. So today's morning coffee and chill beside the Xmas tree went like: Sean Chandler, Chris Stuckman, and Th3 Birdman... "WTF, why is Shad so pissed? He is usually such a positive dude... ehh, now I should really attend launch and spend time with my family".
Despite enjoying The Last Jedi for the most part, I agree. If every movie properly set up what was to come, the fan base was less divided, and the movies felt like one planned story instead of constantly undoing the previous one, things would be a lot better, and it would mean JJ Abrams had done the whole trilogy. I'd sacrifice one enjoyable movie for the entire Star Wars fandom.
I liked the movie a lot, I just wished that they didn’t kill off Kylo Ren. Having Rey die completed her arc of becoming a true Jedi and facing fear. But that arc was only in this movie. Ben Solo had an arc going through the entire trilogy and when he finally turns away from the dark side you are satisfied because of his character development through the three films. He was easily the most fleshed out and interesting new character and killing him off really sucks. Seeing Han Solo again was great and Rey not being a total Mary Sue and actually losing to Kylo was great. The comedy here was great too. Ending the saga where it started with that beautiful shot and John Williams score was the best ending for this saga I think too. I just hope in the next Star Wars saga they think it out more to please all star war fans.
Andrew Castelli Andrew Castelli kylo/ben was the Vadar/anakin of this trilogy. I get why some people may not like this but I like the parallels. He was able to redeem himself from the wrongs he made in the past and become one with the force. Just some of my thoughts.
The problem I had was It was always clear that Kylo would turn good in the end, and Rey would not turn. It was too obvious and that took out any tension for me. Additionally with Kylo I just didn't really 'get' why he was involved with the first order and what his goals / ambitions were etc.
I agree that Rey dying would have been good for her arc. But during my screening, the moment I saw her dead, I immediately remembered Star Trek Into Darkness and how JJ had Kirk die and then had him revived--probably cuz he knew Trek fans would be waiting for him in the parking lot. And just thinking about that, right away I knew there was no way he was gonna let Rey stay dead. It's just not in his programming as a director.
I really liked this movie, I loved when all the Jedi spoke to Rey, I loved Wedges cameo, I loved so many things about the movie, but did find the middle act a bit boring. 8.8/10 from me
For me, force Ghost Luke Skywalker lifting the X-Wing out of water, was one of the most satisfying moments of the entire saga. Seeing Luke finally letting it after struggling in Dagobah back in Empire, was such a nice character arc. I honestly loved Luke’s character in this film
That is all i wanted as well... A powerful wise Luke! So everything else was gravy! getting to see Ben in action as a true Jedi knowing he was trained by Luke and wielding Anakin's saber made me happy as well. Glad you Enjoyed it! MTFBWY.
Dude same same SAME! That made me cry tears of joy when I saw and the music started swelling! And then when Luke gave Rey that very kind and loving kind of laugh/smile
Am I the only that’s disappointed that Palpatine didn’t pull out his lightsaber and duel Rey and Ben? I would’ve loved to see some of Ian McDiarmid’s classic prequel campiness in action.
Jose Dybala it’s sort of just the reverse of What Happened with the Last Jedi (say what you want) but overall critics wanted a good movie & got it. At the same time Fans wanted a good Star Wars movie & didn’t feel like they got that with Last Jedi. With Rise of Skywalker It’s not (mainly talking about how critics received it) a great movie. Star Wars Fans felt it was a good continuation of the Trilogy etc. Part of it was a lot of fans wanted anything but the Last Jedi. But at the end of the day it’s up to the individual’s opinion
Luigi369 if this movie would have been the second movie than it would hVe been fine but since the last Jedi took a shit on Star Wars jj Had to fix evryrhing
I disagreed with lots of this movie’s choices (bringing back Palpatine, Rey not being a nobody, lack of major force ghosts) but I still had lots of fun watching it. Structure-wise and story-wise, especially in relation to the first two movies in this trilogy, it gets a 5 from me. Entertainment-wise, it gets a 9.5
@@zukefilms There were only two force ghosts in this movie, Luke and Leia. And Leia was only a few seconds at the very end (this makes sense considering Carrie Fisher passing away). I don't count hearing a few words from various Jedi as seeing them in the movie. I think it was a big missed opportunity to not have Anakin come back as a ghost and confront Palpatine considering their history.
First off, I like The Force Awakens, but I very much dislike The Last Jedi I liked the majority of this movie, I didn’t love it I also didn’t hate it, but with some of the parts were a bit eh to me Overall I would give it a 6.5/10 The VFX were incredible, the acting was pretty damn good. Some of the jokes and dumb stuff could’ve been cut out, it was very fast paced, at some points it felt like this movie itself could’ve been its own trilogy. I wasn’t really surprised by the reveal that Rey was Palpatine’s granddaughter. The fact that Leia was force sensitive and had her own lightsaber I didn’t really like, I thought it was kind of stupid. Zori Bliss was kinda cool, I didn’t really care for her or the other new character that was with Finn I don’t know here name. Myself and a majority of Star Wars fans were hoping for Hayden Christensen to return as Anakin as a force ghost, I was a bit disappointed it was just a voice, I could also hear Ashoka Tano’s voice from the Clone Wars in there as well so that was pretty cool. I don’t care about the whole Reylo thing, it didn’t ruin the film for me but it was pretty stupid. What did you think about the whole thing that pointed to Finn being force sensitive? I kinda felt like JJ added his ideas for episode 8 into it aswell The way that it ended with Rey on Tatooine was pretty cool.
Yes, I really wanted to see Anakin for one last time, This is Skywalker saga afterall, we started our journey with him, we should've at least see him in the end
@Dark Jedi Because it was never implied that she went through jedi training and knew how to handle a lightsaber. All the sudden we see a flashback of her kicking Luke's ass?? Just a bunch of made up crap they threw into this film...if they maybe built up some kind of story that Leia trained with Luke then it would have made sense. But nothing in this whole trilogy made sense. Palpatine all the sudden is alive?? Lmao it's a joke
I’m pretty sure that even in legends she was trained in the ways of a Jedi, although Leia was never a full on Jedi she was definitely trained and it was already confirmed she was force sensitive in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi so i don’t get that complaint tbh, kinda glad they finally canonized her being trained
I was glad to see Chewie finally get his medal. He should've gotten it in New Hope, or Return, or even Awakens, but glad he at least got it here. Delighted he survived the saga and the trilogies. Was worried he'd die, or was killed by Rey. So glad he wasn't/
@@MegaSpideyman Haha. I didn't think Chewie died because there was trailer footage that hadn't been in the movie yet so I just thought he survived some how. Thank god tho
Sean: Posts the Spoiler TROS Review late in the evening Me, pulling on my Sith hood: "Long have I waited" Jokes aside, i was personally very disappointed in this movie. I thought it was way too fast paced, characters weren't flashed out, there wasn't sufficient explanation for many things (palpatine's return and new powers chief among them), and a lot of cringey elements (the reylo kiss, hux being the spy etc). I completely agree that this movie tried too hard to retcon the last jedi, which even though i hated that movie for what it stood for, the retconning pulled me out of the movie completely. I also think you're right that making this two movies would have served the story much better. Hopefully Disney and Kathleen Kennedy learn from this trilogy and go into their next movies with a better plan. the mandalorian has shown that disney can create quality Star Wars content, so im hopeful they will in the future. P.S. Who else's favorite part of the movie was when Sidious said "the dark side is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be.... unnatural" lol
Instead of restoring C3P0’s memory, the restoration from R2 should have failed and instead at the end of the movie it could have ended with R2 telling 3P0 the story of Star Wars which is what we have been watching throughout the movies.
The good- loved the fact that it wasn’t Rian Johnson, felt like Star Wars, no real boring parts, characters chemistry, Palpatine, finally got to see the Knights of Ren though we’ll get back to that, loved the overall story, loved the fan service mostly, was blown away when Harrison Ford showed up and was even thinking that must’ve been Luke saying “hey kid” and that my brain wanted me to think it was Han until it panned around to show Harrison, loved that we go to see Leia and Luke Jedi Training, loved the ways it fixed The Last Jedi, loved the visuals, loved the props and costumes, loved the Jedi voice Cameos, liked new characters (Zori Bliss, Commander Pride, Dominic Monaghan’s Character, Janah), loved Leia, loved Luke’s more in character actions, and many more things I’ve probably forgotten Now the bad- I think the Knights of Ren went out like Chumps, it was most certainly too fast paced right from the Opening Crawl, the force heal felt a bit like a plot convenience, not enough Lando, Wedge, Knights of Ren, R2, There were too many Sith Fleet Star Destroyers, not enough final space battle scenes (I wanted more shots that show the ships that come to the rescue, even show the different star fighters working together such as The Ghost saving Poe from a close call and I wanna see the different types of ships) I didn’t like how the Knights of Ren went out like chumps as I said, they should have put up a good fight, also I hate how Hux went out like a chump!!!
F. Sebastian Domene Dang it! Johnson had tons of dumb ideas, and ending a movie with a pointless kid it’s annoying bc I had some theories on who he was
Love this review.. one of the best / genuine views I've seen. I think I liked it a little more than you did. Also I've see the next generation cheer for Rey and new characters at Hollywood studios more than OG characters. So I love that star wars lives on and I think these films will age well over time
Generally Trilogies With 2 Directors can work when you have 1st Movie: Director A 2nd Movie: Director A 3rd Movie: Director B Or 1st Movie: Director A 2nd Movie: Director B 3rd Movie: Director B But, When you do 1st Movie: Director A 2nd Movie: Director B 3rd Movie: Director A When you have 2 creative visions competing with each other it doesn’t work as well. This is one of problems with the Disney Trilogy
It's ironic that for years, we have always complained after every popular Franchise announced their last movie was going to be split into 2 movies, and now Star Wars has people saying the last movie NEEDED to be 2 movies. I agree with the opinion, but I find it funny how the 180 flip happened.
Jedi voices were both Obi-Wans (McGregor/Guiness), Qui-Gon, Yoda, Mace, Anakin, Luke, Kanan from Rebels, Ahoska from Clone Wars/Rebels and for some reason Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli, Barris Offee were randomly there and maybe some others
16:01 I completely agree wit your point. People will remember Thanos because he won! He beat the Avengers. Not cause they came back in the end. People remember Anakins sacrifice cause he saved his son and the resistance. Just cause Palps causes trouble again, doesn't mean his sacrifice was in vain.
1. Empire 2. The Rise of Skywalker 3. A New Hope 4. Rouge One 5. Return of the Jedi 6. Revenge of the Sith 7. The Force Awakens 8. Attack of the Clones 9. The Last Jedi 10. A Phantom Menace 11. Solo
I will say that after seeing The Rise of Skywalker, I really enjoyed Dasiy Ridley as Rey, and Adam Driver as Kylo in this movie. The only 2 characters I really cared for in the movie, though I think every other character in the movie were good as well.
I was shocked that I liked it as much as I did! So did my entire family! The audience we saw it with was cheering and clapping throughout the film too. Yea it had lots of script issues and it moved a bit too fast but the whole thing really felt like Star Wars to me.!
I feel like I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but Kylo Ren (or Ben Solo) is probably my favorite Star Wars character, and I personally think he’s a better villain than Vader.
Ben Solo was more or less for a whole trilogy what Anakin should have been in EP III with a competent script. Can't really pick a favorite myself, but EP IX Rey, Clone Wars later half Ashoka Tano & Anakin and Galen Marek/Starkiller from Force Unleashed (more of 1, 2 is prequel level botched execution) are the strongest contenders.
The Force Heal "plot hole" I do not think is actually a plot hole. The way I'm looking at it here, it makes sense for the ability of Force Heal to have been lost to the Jedi Order over the millennia. Then the only reason Ray knew how to do it is because of the Sacred Jedi Texts that she took back in Episode 8. IMO this is my head canon until it is proved to me otherwise lol.
@@zaidiqbal287 he didn't only watch her, he felt what she was doing through the force. They were a Dyad in the force, two halves of the same whole. That part is pretty easy to buy in for me. I have other problems with the movie, but that wasn't one.
I think they played themselves into a hole, especially by killing off SNoke. After that, unless you go with Kylo Ren being the Big Badguy, you really don't have one. So they went with Palpatine. I will cover much of this in a upcoming review over on Kaylon Primary, but the big complaint about the Palpatine angle is that he died in ROTJ, so how is he alive in Ep 9 ... well folks, ya have to go back to the pre-quel trilogy, and remember that Palpatine was talking to Anakin about Darth Plageus, and how he ws able to basically cheat death. I think that Palpatine was Plageus' apprentice, and he was the one who killed Plageus. With that in mind, it is quite possible that Palpatine knew some part of what Plageus knew, and used that knowledge to make damn sure he had an escape plan in the event his body was killed at some point. That, and a bit of help from the Dark Side, of course. The entire movie seemed a bit rushed because of the re-writes, but even with that, it was still a decent ride.
I love Star Wars so much. But rise of skywalker feels so clunky overall. People hate me for this, but keep in mine I’m 14. I think there would be no harm in just movies like rouge one and solo. Only do movies like that, and have the skywalker saga go from Tpm to rots. I think that the audience would be much happier. Don’t make it all about Luke and Anakin skywalker, make movies about the old republic or the mandalorian. Make movies not about the skywalkers, make other star wars movies. I think this would be a lot better in my opinion
They just need to do movies or even a trilogy on the old republic. That will solve everything. They don't even need originality souch material to make movies out of
@@fugit1vegaming397 Heck yeah I thought Chewie died too! 😭💔 They killed Han in the first movie. They killed Luke in the second movie. I figured they were just killing off another character that we loved. 💔 since that’s what Disney does.
Incredible video as always, was waiting for this video since wednesday and I loved to hear your opinions around everything and I feel kinda the same. I wasn't really bored at any time during the movie but the main problems are that it was tooo fast and being a final of a 42 year worth of movie franchise, I wanted more excitement and surprises but divided in two movies. Great video again :)
Chelsea Frank no it’s definitely the worst. It doesn’t tie up a trilogy and especially doesn’t tie up the entire saga. From a filmmaking perspective it is the worst out of the 3 because it has terrible plot holes and pacing problems.
First comment & subscribed was the Joker review. This honest review definitely hooked me to being a follower.Merry Christmas and I hope you have a healthy blessed 2020.As a veteran,God bless you and your family🇺🇸
Idk about the movie really, like I wanna like it a lot but stuff like palpatine surviving the explosion of the Death Star or kylo ren technically dying three times in this movie, personally I would give it a 6 or 7/10 Edit: another thing I remembered is stuff like kylo being able to appear to Rey physically thru the force, like wtf
LIST OF JEDI appeared during the voice scene calling to rey when fighting Palpatine: - anakin -Luminara Unduli -Ashoka Tano -Aayla Secura -Mace Windu -obi wan both old and young -yoda -Adi Gallia -Kanan Jarrus -Qui Gon Jinn
And the trilogy as the whole, I (as someone who is from generation whose childhood was prequels) I thought original trilogy is best, prequels had good, pretty simple but cohesive idea with mediocre (in some aspects just plain bad) execution. And the sequels had decent exectution but weak premise that also was really inconsistent throughout which made it (as a trilogy) worse than prequels in my eyes (I ended up with 6,6,7,8,8,8,7,6,5 on 1-9). And Disney had better do something about Kathleen because the stuff she had most control over hit the brand the hardest.
I genuinely love this movie and the trilogy as a whole. I was born in 2002 so I have grown up on this trilogy. Im not the biggest Star Wars Fan ever Im more of a Marvel guy but I love Star Wars. My Rankings 1. Return of the Jedi 10/10 2. The Force Awakens 9.7/10 3. A New Hope 9.7/10 4. Rise of Skywalker 9.2/10 5. Empire Strikes Back 9/10 6. The Last Jedi 8.1/10 7.Rogue One 8/10 8. Solo 7.5/10 9. Revenge of the Sith 7.3/10 10. Attack of the Clones 6.5/10 11. The Phantom Menace 6/10 The only parts I didn't love was the Palpatine stuff. It still worked but not amazing. I also didn't like the whole Maguffin thing. Felt weird and a little half baked. All i can Say is BABU FRIK
@@blackmamba3060 That's your opinion which is no more or less valid then mine. Revenge of the Sith is ok. For me I grew up on this sequel trilogy and I just think fundamentally they are better made movies and are more entertaining
@@jramz5176 If you're born with a specific trilogy, odds are you're gonna like that one more, it's just how it is. In my opinion, while the new trilogy movies may have been good movies in terms of their quality, they were nothing like Star Wars. Star Wars is supposed to be about exploring the world, the political and social elements of the galaxy, delving into the lore, and exploring amazing villains. With the new trilogy, it felt far less like Star Wars movies and a lot more like a marvel movie with star wars coating. The use of force lightning, healing, and all the other gimmicks were exactly the type of stuff you'd see from a superhero movie. In contrast, the prequels all told the story of a galactic war with strong continuity and an actual established scale. In the sequels, none of the factions made sense and the actual war parts lacked the intense dramatic elements of star wars predecessors. th-cam.com/video/aZnaxdZu2eoh/w-d-xo.htmlttps://th-cam.com/video/aZnaxdZu2eo/w-d-xo.html this video encapsulates a lot of what's great about the prequels, despite the garbage dialogue in some parts.
@@blackmamba3060 See I am not as Big of a Star Wars fan to care about all that. More of a Marvel guy. My fav Star Wars movie is return of the Jedi. I see where you are coming from. For me all that stuff just doesn't bother me. They tried to make it different from the others and if it didn't work for you it didn't work. I personally think the continuity through this trilogy is inferior to the prequels but that's really the only thing I will give the prequels over the sequels. I love ep 7 and 9 and I like 8. I think if Lucasfilm got JJ to direct the entire trilogy and restrict some freedoms similar to how marvel has done with their films it would be a hell of a lot better
One of the biggest Star Wars TH-cam channels Star Wars theory said he liked it glad you seemed to enjoy the films for me I’d say ok but after some time I think this is a good film
Personally, I really loved this movie. It hit all of the right notes. But no matter your opinion, I will still be enjoying this all the way through. May the force be with you.
Gonna see it for the second time next weekend. I loved , like.. REALLY loved this movie. I actually teared up HARD when chewie got his medal. And my favorite lightsaber color is yellow so seeing Rey’s new lightsaber definitely gave me goosebumps
My friends where like it is so cool to see the films and how they where shot from 1977-2019 I love seeing the changes in media and how long we have come
Now I personally loved this film after the let down of TLJ (in my opinion). Yet despite my beliefs that this was a good ending I honestly do hope they change the plans and in 10 or 15 years return with a new trillogy within the Skywalker saga. I honestly feel like every 15 years they should make a new trillogy as it is always cool to see the ways the movies shift from generation to generation. And honestly if they do, I hope they focus in more on these characters (rey, finn, poe) rather than a new batch of characters. But if we never receive a new trillogy in the skywalker saga I'm just happy the films ended on a happy and high note, at least for myself!!!
I feel like we are the only ppl that we have common sense I love it I just love this movie and how it was resurrected from the last jedi and how crap it was
Great review, I appreciate your positive attitude and wonderful reviews! I personally think this was the best Star Wars yet, but love hearing other options as well. Keep up the great videos!
TO ARGUE FOR THE FORCE HEALING I think the reason Kylo and more specifically Rey was able to do this wasn’t that it’s just some trick with the force that creates plot holes. I think it was that Rey lands more in the middle of sith and jedi, she is constantly tempted throughout the trilogy by Kylo Ren and the Dark side. In The Last Jedi, she doesn’t even resist the dark side when Luke is training her, I think that she knows she’s flawed and embraces both sides. This could also explain why they chose yellow as her saber color, bc the three primary colors are red (sith), blue (jedi), and yellow (a mix?). Kylo also has this ability, and I think Anakin did but we never got to see him use it, whereas obi wan, luke and yoda were full jedi knights and never had that ability.
Theory= If Palpatine was a emperor and Rey is his granddaughter does that make her royalty? Like a princess?👸 Maybe should I say a Disney princess? This is a joke but Disney does own Star Wars.
I discovered your channel after everything shut down in March and watching your videos has been an enjoyable way to kill time. While I came away from this movie more satisfied than you, I do agree that two movies would have made it better. Excellent review! Thank you for all that you do!
Every main character that died #1: general hux #2: snapp wexley #3: general pryde #4: emperor palpatine #5: kylo ren I thought there would be more deaths than this
I was born in 92 & one of my childhood movie experiences was seeing Phantom Menace with my twin sister & our dad. Dads in his later 50s & loved Star Wars so being able to see that with him as a kid was great. I've never been a huge fan of Star Wars I never really watched the whole movies at home but appreciate the franchise but I haven't watched the prequels in so so long. Think I need to just so my adult self can judge. I liked the new movie defs better then last one but not being a huge fan I didn't see the big deals like other fans would. For this trilogy I've always gone on opening weekend with my sister and dad so we've made it a thing but defs needs to have a marathon & see what I like and don't like. Awesome video. Loved the 56min length.
Okay so apparently I'm the only one that has realized nobody ever presses the same button when activating Anakin/Luke/Rey's lightsaber. Nobody has ever mentioned it in any videos I've seen but I've noticed it and it bothers me. Sometimes they press the rectangle thing on the side but other times it's the circle button. Are there multiple ways to turn it on? I don't get it.
The more I think about it, this movie has so many things that I like, or even love, but it’s so jumbled and messy that the emotional payoffs don’t feel as earned. Except seeing Ben Solo with the blue lightsaber, I was ecstatic .
Personally, I enjoyed watching this movie. I would give it structure wise a 6 but entertainment wise a 9.5 or ten. I think JJ did a great job- especially with the difficult task he was given
According to my Star Wars fanatic friend, the color of her light saber means "guardian of the temple." I felt that this suggests shes making that home on tatooine the new jedi temple.
I’m not sure, my understanding is that Palatine’s been brought back from death several times in cannon. I believe by some kind of cloning process. Also I have had heard that this has occurred in lore as well. So it might not be a thing that Was looked up on the fly. Not sure though.
Thanks, finally a sensible conversation about. People are so in their feelings. I thoroughly enjoyed but I also didn't grow up on the original Trilogy. When I saw it it's was just as crazy as this trilogy to me so in know way do I feel like this is a departure.
Rating: 9.7/10 Grade: A Positives: Epic, concluded the Saga perfectly, Palpatine returning, fun, awesome action, cool, good acting, great visuals, entertaining, great cast, great lightsaber duels, interesting, easy to understand, great character moments, great characters, enjoyable, good character desisions, killing off Liea, Rey using the force, good opening, over all good, great final battle, redemption, dark, new characters, Babu Frik, RISKY, all 3 are together Negatives: Palpatine plot hole, Hux plot line, Rey and Kylo kiss Favorite part: Chewy "death" scene
Overall, I thought the movie wasn’t the amazing epic conclusions as some fans say nor was it the “worst Star Wars Movie of all time” as others say. The pacing was pretty rocky and boring in the first half but once Rey is discovered as a Palpatine, the story does pick up and is actually pretty interesting and epic to watch. You can definitely tell that this felt like a first draft script for a movie. Many plot lines were just straight up changed from the last Jedi which in my opinion doesn’t make it better, just more confusing and convoluted. The only character I actually thought had the best arc in the trilogy as a whole was Kylo Ren. While he is kinda a rehash of Darth Vader, I think his character is empathetic and his arc is deeply satisfying by the end. If I’ve learned anything at all, Kylo Ren is the protagonist from episodes 7 to 9. My opinion, this trilogy will probably have some sort of cult following in a couple years as do the prequels.
Nick - W I disagree with the pacing part, it was really fast, not boring, per se, I just had a difficult time following it at first, then it was a good pace for me.
While reviewing the movie, my sister tells me "Leia was so useless in this movie. She was barely in it at all." And all my family agreed. I had to tell them Carrie Fisher wasn't finished filming. They had no idea. Knowing the situation ahead of time, I noticed the cgi, short dialogue, camera tricks, etc, so I forgave the movie for that and I actually thought her scenes were pretty great all things considered.
Problems with the movie: Kylo should have lived. The return of Palpatine wasn't explained. The Knights of Ren were underutilized. There were like 2-3 fake out deaths which was kinda annoying. Finn was underutilized. Rose had too less screentime, same with Maz Kanata and R2. Lando just conveniently appeared out of nowhere just so they get time to do other stupid stuff. They just conveniently found a McGuffin (dagger) for another McGuffin (The Sith Wayfinder), which was pretty stupid. They should've introduced the Force heal in the first movie. Where did Palpatine find millions of Star Destroyers and millions of people to run them? C-3PO should have had his memory wiped for the rest of the movie. The Falcon miraculously crash lands on the exact planet that had the wreckage of the 2nd Death Star, which contained one of the Wayfinders. Rey just conveniently realized the dagger matched the shape of the design of the wreckage, which was very stupid. Duel of the Fates should have been played in the Death Star duel, which isn't really a problem 😆. Anakin should have came as a Force ghost at some point. General Hux was wasted. All the Jedi should have appeared as Force ghosts in the final battle. Palpatine died in a very boring and cliché way. They should've had more prequels references in the film. The pacing was pretty bad. The color tone of the film was a bit too blue (that's more of a personal issue). The film has too much convenience and miracles. But overall Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was really fun and entertaining. 😃
Just watched it yesterday... for me this movie was painfully average. Like, i think the first half of the movie sucks. It happens way too fast, with no explanations, and some plotholes. Then, the main plot about finding the Sith Holocron was just meh. Then the second half is... "good". The issue is that the second half is the best part of the movie, but its not amazing. Alot of things happen here that ruin it for me. The kiss was the one thing that made me want to die in this entire movie, because not only is it bullshit... it also ruins Rey's character. Shes a better character in tjis movie, thankfully no longer a Mary Sue... until the end of the movie, where she is resurrected. Oh, and the ending of the movie triggers me so much because not only does it go against the message this film is giving us (accept who you are, dont be afraid, your family legacy does not dictate the person you will become) but also something that i find disrespectful. She is NOT a Skywalker, and its incredibly disrespectful to call herself one. You can continue the legacy of someone in different ways, but calling yourself a member of their bloodline is disrespectful and insulting, not only to them, but your own bloodline (also gotta love how she built a lightsaber... off screen... in the same movie. Its not gonna come back later, but whatever) So yea, this movie was just... average. I dont even know if i can say this movie is average, because there is a part of me that actually hates this movie.
Consider this. Who were Reys parents? The two parental figures that Rey has in her life are Luke Skywalker in TLJ and then Leia Skywalker in RoS. They trained her, and they taught her. Those are the closest to parents she will ever have. That’s why she calls herself a Skywalker.
@@harrisonash6 But she knows who she is. She knows who her family was. It doesnt matter if they are the ones who have taught and trained her, if she knows who she is. Hell, Leia knew who she was and told her to not be afraid of that. It goes against the message the film establishes about how your family legacy doesnt dictate who you will become.
That tweet you brought up about how each successor film in the Sequel Trilogy really tries to change things that were set up in the preceding films. The sequels never built and expanded on each other. I think TROS would’ve really benefited from a longer run time. Like TFA, the third acts just felt too rushed. But I won’t lie, I did enjoy this film more so than I did with TLJ. And as a person who grew up with the Original ‘97 Special Editions and the Prequels, I do enjoy 1-6 more than 7-9.
Instead of pointing out the amazing things in this movie, people point out small, tiny things, that they didnt like even though they have no real affect on the story and claim it ruined the film. So sad to see
I'm really low on it. Really fast tempo, jokes that didn't land for me at all, characters who I don't really care about (i think they only new character that was good was kylo/Ben). Horrible dialogues at times ("I'm the spy", come on gleeson is a good actor and i literally facepalmed after that one). And yes the fake deaths too, every important character for 3/4ths of the movie has God tier plot armor. But the biggest thing was that they could really just end in a way more interesting way - kylo after being disappointed/disillusioned with both sides ends up with white lightsaber and the force is actually in balance. The "Rey Skywalker" was just worse than Ben living simply because her story is just not as good or interesting. I ended up with 5/10 and probably c+.
This movie had a lot of potential. It checked a lot of my boxes, checked boxes I didn’t even ask for..., left me with questions, made me confused, but also left me disappointed and happy at the same time. So many unanswered plot lines. They tease Finn telling Rey the whole time about his feelings and then leaving us hanging. Lando telling that girl that they will find out about where she is from. Fake deaths and foreign objects. By far the WORST part of this movie is the kiss between Rey and Ben. It made me want to rip my eyes out. Throughout the first movie and most of the second, most of the audience, including me, thought that they were related and viewed them as almost siblings. Knowing that they aren’t, it is still hard to shake the feeling. They hated each other for years, how did 15 minutes of them fighting together make them fall in love. Yes, I was happy when Han showed up and when they backup/Lando came to help, but I still have questions. Overall, it feels rushed and there is too much going on. I believe it is a good movie, but only a *good* movie. It could have been a great movie, but the last Jedi really screwed this trilogy over. The force awakens was, in my opinion, amazing, and it left me excited. The last Jedi was rotten, left a bad taste in my mouth, and half the plot felt unnecessary. If the last Jedi had been better, the rise of sky walker could have been *incredible* not just *good*
Hey, Shawn! I'm a big fan but this is my first time actually commenting. First off, I love your reviews, I really like to see someone who knows what they're talking about and can still enjoy films like most of us. That said, I agree with most of your review, but I think the biggest problem with The Rise of Skywalker was The Last Jedi. I mean, Abrams did the best that I could think of to get from the ending of the previous film to the ending of this one in just one movie. I get the whole 2 movies in one concept, but the fact that he was able to pull it off speaks for itself. Like you, I would have liked more time to appreciate the moments, but when I try to find an alternative or a moment where it goes wrong, it all goes back to The Last Jedi. I didn't exactly hate The Last Jedi, I actually liked it more than most, but it does feel like a detour from the story that Abrams was trying to tell in Awakens and Skywalker. I guess my point is that this movie, while it corrected some weird things from The Last Jedi, (like Leia's mastery of the force, just to mention one thing) it also had to start where that one picked off. I am pretty sure that if all three had been JJ Abrams movies, we would have had a much better trilogy than what we got. Like I said at the begining, you're great, love your takes, I admire your story and where you are now as a person. All my love to you and your family all the way from Puerto Rico. Keep talking movies.

Better than The last Jedi, and a slight bit worse than The Force Awakens imo
I’m pretty sure Rian Johnson stuffed it up and if JJ kept the entire trilogy it would’ve been a better more structured trilogy

Star Wars Episode 10: Mesa Back!
Ha ha ha
This trilogy would’ve been so much better if Disney stayed with 1 director, either stick with JJ for all three, or chose, Rian for all three, I like the movies but one vision would have been much better
TJ Hageli cant agree more
Nicholas Teresko yeah I think if JJ has TLJ to set up this moive, it would’ve been much better, and I think Rian could’ve made an interesting trilogy too, doing both made both worse
JJ relies on nostalgia too much and how Rian tries to “subvert expectations” doesn’t work for a huge franchise. Still enjoy all of them tho.
100%
Right when “Directed by JJ Abrams” came up on the screen I said to my friend “Alright, time to watch Sean Chandler’s review!” I got home, pressed refresh on my home page, and this video popped up saying “posted 5 minutes ago”. And a HUGE smile popped up on my face. Love you Sean! Keep talking movies!!!

"That is destiny fulfilled right there!"
I only watched it yesterday and had a date till late night afterward. So today's morning coffee and chill beside the Xmas tree went like: Sean Chandler, Chris Stuckman, and Th3 Birdman... "WTF, why is Shad so pissed? He is usually such a positive dude... ehh, now I should really attend launch and spend time with my family".
This trilogy would’ve been a whole lot better if JJ did all three movies.
So true
Yeah because then it'd be a complete rehash of better movies lol
Blaze77717 infinitely better than johnson's "subversion of expectations"
Despite enjoying The Last Jedi for the most part, I agree. If every movie properly set up what was to come, the fan base was less divided, and the movies felt like one planned story instead of constantly undoing the previous one, things would be a lot better, and it would mean JJ Abrams had done the whole trilogy. I'd sacrifice one enjoyable movie for the entire Star Wars fandom.
@@TejanoTigre you sure about that lol
The only way they could have ended his arc was to sacrifice himself imo
Can’t agree more
The problem I had was It was always clear that Kylo would turn good in the end, and Rey would not turn.
Loved what my dad said after, he said that they missed out on Kylo Ren saying “I am a Jedi like my MOTHER before me” to Palpatine
Palpatine: "I AM ALL THE SITH!"
Rey: "And I am...Iron Man" (snap)
Gordon Gehrman lol I literally said that at that moment in the theater😂
It’s engrained now when anyone says “I am”.
I was literally thinking the same thing when I saw that scene!!!!! LMFAO!!!!!
I said that too
Luke Michalak me too lmao
I really liked this movie, I loved when all the Jedi spoke to Rey, I loved Wedges cameo, I loved so many things about the movie, but did find the middle act a bit boring. 8.8/10 from me
Same i felt like it was an amazing conclusion and it made me cry of joy a few times
Why Ben why
Right, idk why people are trashing it, it was a really good movie regarding the action, cgi, and cinematography?
Geoffrey Harris when lando turns up at the end with all the star fighters, lando is in gunner position on the Millenium Falcon

Entertainment-wise, it gets a 9.5
I agree. I felt like the biggest issue with this trilogy was no continuity between the three movies.
There were tons of force ghosts in this movie. Why do you think there is a lack of
@@zukefilms There were only two force ghosts in this movie, Luke and Leia.
Eric Smith Exactly. Also a huge missed opportunity to not have Anakin talk some sense into Ben.
This movie was a C- and a 1 on the entertainment scale
I really liked the rise of skywalker I thought it was really satisfying and a good end to the skywalker saga just my opinion.

I liked the majority of this movie, I didn’t love it I also didn’t hate it, but with some of the parts were a bit eh to me
Overall I would give it a 6.5/10
The VFX were incredible, the acting was pretty damn good.
I kinda felt like JJ added his ideas for episode 8 into it aswell
The way that it ended with Rey on Tatooine was pretty cool.
Yes, I really wanted to see Anakin for one last time, This is Skywalker saga afterall, we started our journey with him, we should've at least see him in the end
In the same boat with you
@Dark Jedi Because it was never implied that she went through jedi training and knew how to handle a lightsaber.
@Dark Jedi Actually, the idea of Leia being Force Sensitive was introduced in Empire when she could sense Luke asking for her help at Bespin.
THIS WHOLE PRETTY GREAT TRILOGY IS ALL SO THAT CHEWY CAN GET HIS MEDAL
I was glad to see Chewie finally get his medal.
He should've gotten it in New Hope, or Return, or even Awakens, but glad he at least got it here.

Sean: Posts the Spoiler TROS Review late in the evening
Me, pulling on my Sith hood: "Long have I waited"
Jokes aside, i was personally very disappointed in this movie.
I liked when he said “Dew it” more
Instead of restoring C3P0’s memory, the restoration from R2 should have failed and instead at the end of the movie it could have ended with R2 telling 3P0 the story of Star Wars which is what we have been watching throughout the movies.
Genius!
Oh snap that's good
The good- loved the fact that it wasn’t Rian Johnson, felt like Star Wars, no real boring parts, characters chemistry, Palpatine, finally got to see the Knights of Ren though we’ll get back to that, loved the overall story, loved the fan service mostly, was blown away when Harrison Ford showed up and was even thinking that must’ve been Luke saying “hey kid” and that my brain wanted me to think it was Han until it panned around to show Harrison, loved that we go to see Leia and Luke Jedi Training, loved the ways it fixed The Last Jedi, loved the visuals, loved the props and costumes, loved the Jedi voice Cameos, liked new characters (Zori Bliss, Commander Pride, Dominic Monaghan’s Character, Janah), loved Leia, loved Luke’s more in character actions, and many more things I’ve probably forgotten
Now the bad- I think the Knights of Ren went out like Chumps, it was most certainly too fast paced right from the Opening Crawl, the force heal felt a bit like a plot convenience, not enough Lando, Wedge, Knights of Ren, R2, There were too many Sith Fleet Star Destroyers, not enough final space battle scenes (I wanted more shots that show the ships that come to the rescue, even show the different star fighters working together such as The Ghost saving Poe from a close call and I wanna see the different types of ships) I didn’t like how the Knights of Ren went out like chumps as I said, they should have put up a good fight, also I hate how Hux went out like a chump!!!
Yeah in TFA hux was one of my favorite characters but in TLJ and this movie he is a joke
To be fair tho with the force heal, it’s in the Clone Wars and Yoda does it. Cool little allusion imo
And we still don’t know who that boy was at the end of last Jedi...
he was supposed to represent hope in the galaxy. another dumb idea by johnson
F. Sebastian Domene Dang it! Johnson had tons of dumb ideas, and ending a movie with a pointless kid it’s annoying bc I had some theories on who he was
That wasn’t supposed to be important...

Love this review.. one of the best / genuine views I've seen. I think I liked it a little more than you did. Also I've see the next generation cheer for Rey and new characters at Hollywood studios more than OG characters. So I love that star wars lives on and I think these films will age well over time
I think they should have never hired 2 directors for 1 trilogy
T Bloks yeah, they should have planned it out better in general
Generally Trilogies With 2 Directors can work when you have
1st Movie: Director A
2nd Movie: Director A
3rd Movie: Director B
Or
1st Movie: Director A
2nd Movie: Director B
3rd Movie: Director B
But, When you do
1st Movie: Director A
2nd Movie: Director B
3rd Movie: Director A
When you have 2 creative visions competing with each other it doesn’t work as well.
This is one of problems with the Disney Trilogy
T Bloks, the original trilogy had 3 directors. The problem was they did not have a plan. They had no actual vision.
I felt like Palpatine’s death was slightly “anticlimactic”
soooooo dumb too
It's ironic that for years, we have always complained after every popular Franchise announced their last movie was going to be split into 2 movies, and now Star Wars has people saying the last movie NEEDED to be 2 movies. I agree with the opinion, but I find it funny how the 180 flip happened.
are we gonna forget that Palpatine said “dew it” and “good”
Ponciano Casas but he didn’t say “unlimited power”
Chicago Coaster Fan ehhh that’s fine
Jedi voices were both Obi-Wans (McGregor/Guiness), Qui-Gon, Yoda, Mace, Anakin, Luke, Kanan from Rebels, Ahoska from Clone Wars/Rebels and for some reason Aayla Secura, Luminara Unduli, Barris Offee were randomly there and maybe some others
Christian Brown I think the random ones we’re supposed to be Jedi from before any of the movies, because their have been a lot in theory.

Enjoyed the movie had a good time with it
I will say that after seeing The Rise of Skywalker, I really enjoyed Dasiy Ridley as Rey, and Adam Driver as Kylo in this movie.
I went twice! second viewing was even better the pace didn't seem as fast.
At least it’s better than the slow first, slow second, and fast third acts of TLJ
Not a single person outside of my family cheered in the whole movie (except when Chewie got his medal)
7/10 and 9/10 cuz it’s two movies
I love the way it took a dump on last jedi. Enjoyed it overall but far from my favorite SW movie.
Cats of Sherman I feel like it jabbed at the last Jedi with the “You should treat a Jedis weapon with more respect.”
Then how did Kylo know how to do it?

Yeah! Johnson made a bad move killing Snoke in TLJ. He could've been an epic villian in Rise of Skywalker!
J.T. Yule that is true now that they finished the Skywalker family story they should construct more of their expanded universe and give backstories.
They just need to do movies or even a trilogy on the old republic. That will solve everything. They don't even need originality souch material to make movies out of

Edit: another thing I remembered is stuff like kylo being able to appear to Rey physically thru the force, like wtf
I actually really like the Jedi transportation stuff, it’ was new and kinda added a cool new side to the fighting
Palpatine did die he was just cloned.
LIST OF JEDI appeared during the voice scene calling to rey when fighting Palpatine:
- anakin
-Luminara Unduli
-Ashoka Tano
-Aayla Secura
-Mace Windu
-obi wan both old and young
-yoda
-Adi Gallia
-Kanan Jarrus
-Qui Gon Jinn
I did not hear Ahsoka, which disappoints me as a HUGE clone wars fan
And the trilogy as the whole, I (as someone who is from generation whose childhood was prequels) I thought original trilogy is best, prequels had good, pretty simple but cohesive idea with mediocre (in some aspects just plain bad) execution. And the sequels had decent exectution but weak premise that also was really inconsistent throughout which made it (as a trilogy) worse than prequels in my eyes (I ended up with 6,6,7,8,8,8,7,6,5 on 1-9). And Disney had better do something about Kathleen because the stuff she had most control over hit the brand the hardest.
Inconsistency in the sequels was because of directors changing.
I genuinely love this movie and the trilogy as a whole. I was born in 2002 so I have grown up on this trilogy. Im not the biggest Star Wars Fan ever Im more of a Marvel guy but I love Star Wars.
My Rankings
1. Return of the Jedi 10/10
2. The Force Awakens 9.7/10
3. A New Hope 9.7/10
4. Rise of Skywalker 9.2/10
5. Empire Strikes Back 9/10
6. The Last Jedi 8.1/10
7.Rogue One 8/10
8. Solo 7.5/10
9. Revenge of the Sith 7.3/10
10. Attack of the Clones 6.5/10
11. The Phantom Menace 6/10
The only parts I didn't love was the Palpatine stuff. It still worked but not amazing. I also didn't like the whole Maguffin thing. Felt weird and a little half baked. All i can Say is BABU FRIK
I'm sorry but Revenge of the Sith is better than any movie from the sequels.
I have way too many problems with the ROS to even rate it that high. Its like a 6 or 6.5 in my book

Personally, I really loved this movie. It hit all of the right notes. But no matter your opinion, I will still be enjoying this all the way through. May the force be with you.

Nice
I really enjoyed it to, best sequel film and my 3rd or 4th fav Star Wars film

Gonna see it for the second time next weekend. I loved , like.. REALLY loved this movie. I actually teared up HARD when chewie got his medal. And my favorite lightsaber color is yellow so seeing Rey’s new lightsaber definitely gave me goosebumps
I definitely agree, also very hyped by the yellow lightsaber.
My friends where like it is so cool to see the films and how they where shot from 1977-2019 I love seeing the changes in media and how long we have come
It still confuses me why they didn’t just use one director for all 3 movies
I loved this movie, I love the sequel trilogy, not as good as the original trilogy but still great

TO ARGUE FOR THE FORCE HEALING
I think the reason Kylo and more specifically Rey was able to do this wasn’t that it’s just some trick with the force that creates plot holes.
I think I heard that Disney does actually qualify her as a princess 😂
I discovered your channel after everything shut down in March and watching your videos has been an enjoyable way to kill time. While I came away from this movie more satisfied than you, I do agree that two movies would have made it better. Excellent review! Thank you for all that you do!
Every main character that died
#1: general hux
#2: snapp wexley
#3: general pryde
#4: emperor palpatine
#5: kylo ren

I didn’t like this movie very much, but I thought it had some good elements. I’m glad many people liked it though.
Harry Potter and The Joker it works a lot better if u turn off ur brain, and even better without the last 10 minutes

Thanks for a great review Sean! You are my favorite reviewer and am happy whenever you post
Sean you forgot the most important thing that has ever happened to any character in Star Wars.............Chewbacca got his medal
I would’ve liked to see this movie be 3 hours and slow cooked like endgame
“Microwave meal” has gotta be the perfect review for RoS...that’s exactly how I feel about it
Okay so apparently I'm the only one that has realized nobody ever presses the same button when activating Anakin/Luke/Rey's lightsaber.
So basically, JJ should have helmed all three films
Personally, I enjoyed watching this movie. I would give it structure wise a 6 but entertainment wise a 9.5 or ten. I think JJ did a great job- especially with the difficult task he was given
According to my Star Wars fanatic friend, the color of her light saber means "guardian of the temple." I felt that this suggests shes making that home on tatooine the new jedi temple.
Stephen Jenkins interesting
I’m not sure, my understanding is that Palatine’s been brought back from death several times in cannon. I believe by some kind of cloning process. Also I have had heard that this has occurred in lore as well. So it might not be a thing that Was looked up on the fly. Not sure though.
This is a great review!! New sub!
Thanks, finally a sensible conversation about. People are so in their feelings. I thoroughly enjoyed but I also didn't grow up on the original Trilogy. When I saw it it's was just as crazy as this trilogy to me so in know way do I feel like this is a departure.
Rating: 9.7/10
Grade: A
Positives: Epic, concluded the Saga perfectly, Palpatine returning, fun, awesome action, cool, good acting, great visuals, entertaining, great cast, great lightsaber duels, interesting, easy to understand, great character moments, great characters, enjoyable, good character desisions, killing off Liea, Rey using the force, good opening, over all good, great final battle, redemption, dark, new characters, Babu Frik, RISKY, all 3 are together
Negatives: Palpatine plot hole, Hux plot line, Rey and Kylo kiss
Favorite part: Chewy "death" scene
The glitch is just a cover up, we get to unwrap a brand new Sean Chandler logo on Christmas Day. I’m calling it now
Genius
While reviewing the movie, my sister tells me "Leia was so useless in this movie. She was barely in it at all." And all my family agreed.
I had to tell them Carrie Fisher wasn't finished filming. They had no idea.
Knowing the situation ahead of time, I noticed the cgi, short dialogue, camera tricks, etc, so I forgave the movie for that and I actually thought her scenes were pretty great all things considered.
Awesome review. You were spot on.
ST: First Movie is the best!
OT: Second Movie is the best!
PT: Third Movie is the best!
KhayPlayz, agreed. People say TFA is the best of this trilogy. I much prefer this one,
I like your review Sean. Not polar like alot of the reviews.
Love your thoughts! Thanks for sharing. Feel the same way about knowing Star Wars my entire life!
Its not gonna come back later, but whatever)
So yea, this movie was just... average. I dont even know if i can say this movie is average, because there is a part of me that actually hates this movie.
Alex P thats exactly how I felt bro Rey isn’t a skywalker she’s a palpatine no matter what
@@lakernation26 Exactly. You cant change who you are, noone can.
Alex P accept for transgenders they think they can change who they are lmaoo
So sad to see
No people are pointing out the big problems of the movie cause this movie is a rushed mess
I noticed that marvel and star wars were becoming like each other but I never thought it would be this close

@@dragshan5255 movie grading is different than school grades my guy
@@sheltondmello8031 just saying that's how I saw Sean grade it
OMG at the final "I'm Rey Skywalker" they should've had Anakin's voice as a background echo saying it with her. That is my headcanon ending from now!

“Did you ever hear the tragedy of Carrie Fischer the badass”
