Hey Ben! Another great vid :) I heard you talk about how you've been struggling with your anxiety (especially with COVID) which I have been struggling with as well, so it's good to know that even a great runner like you can suffer with mental illness. It would be great if you could do a video on how you've coped with your anxiety over this period because I have been finding it really hard lately to keep motivated through my training plus all the uni work I have!
I don't know why this is, Ben, but you don't look as fast as you are when I watch clips of you running in your videos. I'm always surprised (and impressed, of course!) when I see the times you've clocked for everything from 5k to marathon . . Also, I'm 6 weeks into your sub-17 5k plan right now and it's really helping. If I can manage it in a few weeks, it will be my first sub-17 5k since 2010!
Ben, thank you for another amazing video, scenery is stunning, and I’m so impressed that when it’s 33C that you actually did an interval session, I struggle to go out walking when it’s that hot.
I’m training for a 5K PB just before Christmas! Going to run with my friend for that added bit of motivation to keep up with him! Hoping for sub 21 mins! Wish me luck!!
I just had my first hill repeat. Working on my 5k PB, will do it on early Jan 2021. My shin is getting hurt I need to really take care of it. So far my training has been good! Never felt like this before.
I don’t really know either. We turned up, couldn’t find any office or anyone to pay or ask about it.. it was completely empty. So just decided to run anyway.. never saw anyone official. Who knows!
Well done Ben. Try KINeSYS sunscreen. I use it all the time and like you have an issue with sweat and sunscreen getting into my eyes. Since getting onto KINeSYS I have found that it doesn’t any more. Try it out.
Thanks Dean! We've never been to Dubai, but would like to experience the marathon there at some point.. plus run along the palm as well! Maybe see you there!!
@@BenParkes Always cold to hot back to cold again is tough, but nice! And yes! That would be super cool. Fingers crossed all is well after December 2nd 🤞🏽
Great video folks. For the trail runs do you map out yourself and transfer on to your watch, or download them somewhere? I’d be concerned about getting lost. Cheers.
Hey Barry.. we map it out ourselves and transfer it to the watch. It then works like a car sat nav to guide us round. Also got a back up on both our phones just in case a watch fails etc.. But that's never happened!
Brilliant video! Looks stunning. Can I ask a bit of advice? Have my first race in a year, somewhat out of the blue in 5 weeks as was rescheduled very quickly. It’s 10k trial with 350m elevation. Have just come off training got a marathon with 1,000m elevation. What should I do to build some speed back up in just 5 weeks??
Hey Neil.. you can do a session like this, always like to do ones where you are running at goal pace, plus some reps ahead of goal pace. Or you could try a pyramid session as well... that will get you running at different speeds as well. Don’t forget some hills reps as well, as 10k with 350m is hilly!! And finally if you can do some hillier long runs that will really help you. (8-15k) all the best with your goal!
Probably had about 1/2 a litre during the workout.. not huge, just sips. Was mainly as it was so hot.. wouldn't ordinarily have liquids if it's below 20 degrees C
I do some of my easy runs via HR.. or tempo runs as well.. but most of the time I just run on feel. Just works better for me! Positives and negatives of either way!
Your one of those people who can vacation and drive with the steering wheel on either side I see. Scares me to death driving on a different side of the road.
In a normal year we'd drive over to Europe quite a lot.. so it's second nature for us to drive on both sides of the road. But scary when we first did for sure!
Interesting watching your technique. Is your minimal knee lift intentional? I know they say 180 steps per minute is thought to be the ideal cadence. Read a post by eilish mccolgan the other day and her average cadence on a 7 mile run was 80, the other extreme. I guess it goes to show that one rule doesn’t fit all!
Eilish is quite extreme, but with the length of her legs it will be more natural to run at a lower cadence. For most people getting in the 170 to 190 range will work well! I've spent a lot of time working on Stride length and cadence over the years and where it is now works for me.. usually about 180 on easy runs and 190 for faster efforts!
@@BenParkes interesting. Logically you would think the faster you go the longer your stride length as you are propelled forward with greater force. I have tried shortening my stride length but it feels so unnatural
Can't remember exactly Richard. Around 3 months I'd say. Always best to take advice on when to run again from your physio, doctor .. or someone who's examined you as part of your diagnoses. Everyone is slightly different in healing times. All the best and hope you're back running soon!
Another great track session. Can’t wait to have a crack at this. PRO TIP: get some vaseline and run it across your eyebrows. It’s waterproof and the sweat then runs down your cheeks.
What's the most beautiful place you've ran?? This might be mine!
Great session & vid.
My favourite place I have run is along the palm in Dubai 😂🤷🏻♂️.
My other favourite is the Ridgeway & Thames path.
Lake District. Lucky to live only within a few hours drive too, we're spoiled in the UK.
Haarlem in Holland was great, then out to the beach and national park. Unique terrain
@UCdEn3kikmv2HgXutD7Duaag Very kind as ever Dave! It was SO hard, but glad we got it done. All the best to you and thanks for the support!! :-)
Probably the French Alps in a town near Chamonix!
Phenomenal track session ben, back on track mate 👌 and then you get to go to the mountains, AMAZING!!
Wow what a beautiful place, I feel better just for watching that. You looked strong in that session Ben.

Maspalomas is at the end of the right canion of that image (south)
I hate to sound corny, but your videos are genuinely inspirational. I'll be thinking of this one during my next much-loathed track workout.

Great video and enjoyed seeing a track session in sunny climes, but can you do it on a cold night in Stoke?! 😁
Even faster on a cold night in Stoke!! 😋 haha
Great video Ben. I've stayed near that stadium before, wasn't sure if it was open to the public or not.

I try! Hope your running is going well! :-)
Either you or Sarah, I would love to hear about when to walk/run when out on trails...
Very jealous of the winter sun.
Great workout, Ben :)
Some great scenery in here, awesome video!
Tenerife is beautiful! Hope to get there late December. Nice vid guys 👌 😎

How do you work on your stride turnover? Yours is brilliant
Strides are the best thing to do. Plus drills like lunges as well.
Can't wait for the what you eat in a day video.
Roll on travelling abroad freely next year! #fingerscrossed
That heat must have felt so nice!!!!! ☀️
It did!! Was a bit of a shock and really suffered looking back, but hey, can't complain. Hopefully get together for a run after lock down!

Ben Parkes Thanks so much! Really appreciate it 👍
Do you run th 1k-repeats at goal-pace? and I guess all the repeats will be over threshold-heartrate/pace?
It hurts but makes you stronger! I love at the same time hate track workouts HAHAHA
Hey Ben! How much water do you drink during these fast track workouts? It looked like a "Fun" work out i will try some time.
Probably had about 1/2 a litre during the workout.. not huge, just sips. Was mainly as it was so hot.. wouldn't ordinarily have liquids if it's below 20 degrees C
Nice session Ben! I’m interested do you ever train to HR? Good luck with your race.

@@BenParkes thanks Ben, HR training seems to be becoming more popular so it’s interesting to see how different people train 👍🏻

There's no way someone could run with a cadence of 80. She probably meant 80 strikes of one foot per minute which is 160
Hve you always been a forefoot runner or have you changed your form over the years?
Something I've worked at over the years..
Great stuff Ben. How long was it from your fracture until first run? I'm 17 days int my metatarsal fracture. Don't want to re break it

Did Sarah do some track-runs ?
Or will she just get to fast for you ? 🤣
What was the temperature?
About 30 Celsius on the track.. and about 20 in the mountains!
