  • Rota Vicentina/Fisherman’s Trail Day 4: Zambujeira do Mar to Odeceixe, 19km
    Lodging: Horta do Vale- Nature House
    A typical day on the Fisherman’s Trail: coastal views, empty beaches, a coffee stop, more coastal views. This stage had what felt like an endless walk into town under a hot afternoon sun, but all in all another great day of walking.

    Thanks for including the names of places. We started our Algarve beaches bike tour in Odeceixe. The upcoming videos will probably bring back a lot of happy memories, starting with that shot of your dinner plate1

    Hi Nadine, thank you for your awesome video's! I've been really enjoying them. For a long time I thought doing a camino (or any other trail) was not for me, because a lot of people told me that it is a big social thing and all about meeting great people and about community. As an introvert, just the thought of big social exhausts me. Recently I convinced myself of doing it anyway and I decided to do my very first camino (Frances) at the end of the summer. Aside from all the pretty sights, seeing you finding a balance between introverting and also enjoying good company at times, gives me hope and really makes me look forward to my own trip.

      I'm so happy that these videos have helped show you that it IS possible to walk the Camino as an introvert! Sometimes I have to be intentional about getting enough alone time (and sometimes I can get a bit grumpy/irritated if I don't get enough of it) But I do think the narrative of the "Camino family" can be the dominant one, and as someone who never really walks with a 'family', I still have such an incredible experience AND form beautiful connections. I just tend not to walk every stage with the wonderful people I meet. I hope you have a wonderful Camino, and that you find just the right kind of rhythm that you need for your journey!

    From a walking standpoint... nice varied topography. Also, I'm glad your walking stick got some screen time... because now your story is part of it's purpose. hahaha... what a nerd am I! Cheers and adventure on!

    Very nice. Reason at Odeceixe is probably a lot walked down and across the entrance to the river. Cuts that long road section to Odeceixe out. Would get your feet wet but worth the time. That first hill climb used to be straight up a cliff. It collapsed a few years ago, and they added the side trail.

    Your videos are amazing! I'm going to start walking the fisherman's trail in a week and a half (sadly only have time for 5 days) and really enjoy watching your videos as preparation and inspiration for my journey. Looking forward to your next videos :)

      Oh I'm so happy to hear that you'll be walking this trail, it's so incredible! I only had time for 8 days, which wasn't quite enough to finish... but it was still such a great experience. And 5 days will give you so much beauty, it will be wonderful!

    Truly amazing how deserted the beaches are! Had a friend who did a coastal hike with REI--I think further south than you--and all his photos were of completely empty beaches.

    Hi Nadine. Thank you for your inspiring vlog! I'll be walking this trail in June this year. I'm in two minds about taking my walking poles. However I saw you have been using a stick - which you seem to have appreciated finding. What are your thoughts about the need for walking poles? I don't usually use mine. Many thanks.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if you don't usually use sticks you'll probably be okay, but there ARE a few stretches that are steep uphill and downhill, and I appreciated having my stick for those (especially the downhill sections!) You'd probably be able to find a bamboo pole or two- like I did- if you start walking and discover that you really wished you'd brought poles!

    Thanks for the pleasant sharing of your time spent on the Fisherman's trail. I couldn't test my ankle boots on sand, because of a lack of the kind of sand you are on. I was wondering about your desire to always be alone on the trail, since you often mention it. Is it that you feel you're having a diminished experience with others around? Is your hike like a walking meditation that requires solitude? Whatever it is, it's okay. Just curious.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe I should try to expand on my answer in another Q&A video, but you're right, a big part is that my walking becomes almost a sort of meditation (the closest I've ever gotten to some form of meditation, anyway). I not only can really get into my head in a very unique way when I walk alone, but also, when I'm not in my head, I'm just so present to everything around me, and that's a special experience that I really value. Walking with others can also be a great experience, but for me it's a very different one, and I feel like I miss so much of the actual path and experience of walking when I'm with others. Okay, I could write such a long answer but I'll stop for now... but thank you for asking and being curious (because I certainly DO talk about wanting to walk alone a lot!!)

    Hi Nadine. I see you are making your own sandwich with bought bread. Does that mean you are carrying things like cheese and cured meat with you for the 12 days?
    Have you posted anywhere information about your pack size, what clothes you took, did you wash your clothes at times...etc? Sorry if this has already been asked before.

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I often picked up things for lunch when shops were open/available, though I wasn't carrying food for my entire walk (also, I only walked 8 days!) But I had some tortillas with me to make wraps, and one morning bought bread at a bakery. And sometimes picked up small packages of ham/cheese.
      This is a post of my Camino packing list, and the basic list that I work off of for every long walk. When I finish posting the daily vlogs from this trip I'm going to make a video talking about the "extras" I brought on this particular walk!
