  • Rota Vicentina/Fisherman’s Trail Day 8: Vila do Bispo to Sagres, 24km (April 2023)
    The last day of my Rota Vicentina trek! The route does continue on for a few more stages, but because of time constraints I had to end my walk in Sagres. But getting to see the lighthouse at the “end of the world” was a fitting way to end my journey!

    Congratulations! Great walk. Great video. You inspire many people with your commitment and dedication to your passion. There are many more adventures ahead. Quote….
    The Road Not Taken (modified)….
    BY ROBERT FROST
    Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
    And sorry I could not travel both
    And be one traveler, long I stood
    And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth.
    I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
    Two roads diverged in a wood, and I…. I took the one less traveled by,
    And that has made all the difference.

    Could be mistaken but I think that's the happiest I've ever seen you on trail. Not that you've been miserable on previous adventures, but your happiness on this route really shone through, and that made your videos all the more enjoyable to watch. Bon Camiño!

    • @NadineWalks

      Haha, I love all my walks, but in different ways. This particular trek was... almost like a vacation. It was fun. I had perfect weather and just couldn't get over the views. Every day was so beautiful, and maybe it's because I was walking shorter stages than usual, but it felt as though I had a great balance of walking and relaxing: stopping for picnic lunches, hanging out on a beach, reading a book... in terms of pure enjoyment, it might be hard for me to top this walk! So you definitely were picking up on something when you said this was the happiest you've seen me on a walk. I really had such a great time! (only thing that would make it better would be a more Camino-like camaraderie in the evenings, though I did meet some very nice people)

    I thought I knew something about this trail from hearing about it, but I now realize I didn't know much. Thank you for the great information. Did you ever see the lovely house of Amalia Rodrigues? She was a famous Fado singer and her old house is on the Fisherman's Trail. It has a wonderful view over the ocean.

Apparently there is a TransCanada trail but I’m not sure it’s been done in one go . Winter gets in the way somewhat 😊 enjoy the down time .

    Thank you for this series - jogged my memory of our bike trip. It may have been the time of the year, but by late May, almost all the beaches had surfers. Some beaches had little colonies of surfers living in their VW camper vans. Were there any surfers when you were there?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there were surfers! Not many until a day or two before Sagres. I took a video of a bunch of them in the water but the quality wasn't great so it didn't make the cut :)

Can you give me a general guess on the length of that very rocky portion?

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Dear Nadine, thank you so much for your videos! You inspire me to go out and travel as a solo female traveler :)
    I am considering walking the Fisherman's trail or the Camino del Norte starting this September.
    Besides the obvious difference in the length of the trails, in which way are they different/similar??
    Thank you so much!!!

    • @NadineWalks
      @NadineWalks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's probably a lot I could say about this but, to try to keep it simple: both are really beautiful routes, but the Norte dips towards and away from the coast, and sometimes it's frustrating that you're SO CLOSE to the coast but can't actually see it. There are alternatives you can take that at times keep you along the coast, but you'll have to be aware of where they are. But some of the stages on the Norte are just stunning, and as you said, it's longer, so that I don't mind so much the stages that move away from the coast... it's all part of the experience. It's also a Camino route, so that's going to make the feel of it a bit different than the Fisherman's Trail. I'm not sure if you've done a Camino yet, but you'll find that on the Norte, it will probably be easier to meet people, find others to walk with (if you want), eat meals in the evening, etc. I was able to do that a bit on the Fisherman's Trail, but it's not quite as 'natural' as on a Camino route.
      But one thing the Fisherman's Traill has is gorgeous views EVERY SINGLE DAY. It's incredible. It's like taking the best days on the Norte and repeating them time and time again, for every single stage. There's more soft sand walking on this route and that can be challenging, so I'd say it's wiser to do some stages that are less kms than on the Norte.
      Both routes are really great, I love them. I suppose it depends on what you're most looking for: do you want a Camino experience, and one that is more social? Or is the landscape more important? And really, I think you can't go wrong with either!
