  • Rota Vicentina/Fisherman’s Trail Day 7: Carrapateira to Vila do Bispo, 18km (April 2023)
Lodging: Casa Dias, private room 42 euros
Join me for a very windy day of walking! 💨 I don’t narrate much during this stage because the wind was so strong, but if you watch through to the end I catch you up on how the day went. And it was a wonderful, challenging, invigorating day!

I found your videos a little over a month ago and this is my second to last one, out of ALL of your adventures, that I have left to watch. I am sad to have already watched your many adventures, but wanted to thank you for giving me so much inspiration and such a nice selection of calming videos that have filled me in so many ways. I really admire your optimism and am so appreciative you’ve shared these journeys. I don’t know what I’m going to do once I finish video #8 of this series. I will have watched everything on your channel!

It looks like the most difficult thing about this trail is the constant desire to stop and look at the awesome scenery, or run and splash through those amazing emerald waters. Stunning... just stunning. Thanks for sharing :)

What a beautiful trail, that coastline looks so peaceful and relaxing after a day in the city.

You hit the spot wit me for you simple explanations and editing. TH-cam has too much sensationalist content these days.

Hi Nadine. I love it that the bar was closed but they served you coffee anyways. I remember this type of hospitality in Portugal from many years ago. I really love the scenery from today. Can’t wait to see if the end of the trail is Sagres, Lagos or another place. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

hi Nadine, it's Allie - wow what a windy day that was for you, walking that same stage a day behind you and hardly any wind. I took a video of myself in the same spot as you did, declaring it my favourite spot on the trail! (I thought it looked like something out of Lord of the Rings).
one note about the trail - which I would walk again in a heartbeat - it had many more very steep up and down cliffs than I was expecting, especially the stage after Sagres. I don't recall many people mentioning that in the multitude of TH-cam videos I watched leading up to the walk. it was still amazing, just sketchy in places due to the dry conditions, was like walking on marbles and I took a few tumbles, fall over the wrong way and you could be a goner

Thanks for adding these thoughts Allie, I agree with you about how some sections were more difficult than I thought they'd be! (and I didn't even walk that stage after Sagres!!) I'd read a post about this particular stage on the Camino forum, and the person who posted said that while the guidebook said this stage was difficult, he didn't think it was bad, and he and his wife walked much more quickly than they anticipated. All I could think, as I battled the wind, staggering up ANOTHER hill, sand blowing into my eyes was... "Not that bad? Not that bad?!"

Hi Nadine. Always love your videos. We have just finished this walk in Lagos. Before we did it we did the Camino dos Faros. Having done the Camino del Norte and Primitivo before I can't recommend the dos Faros enough based on what you seem to like. It was certainly the hardest of the ones we did but I scored an own goal by carrying a 20kg rucksack! It's not a social camino until Muxia where seeing so many people was a shock. We saw maybe 6 more people doing it at the same time.
Probably my second favourite trek after the Lycian Trail. Another tough trek but outstanding beauty and hospitality.

At which point in the trail did you see that amazing coastal view?

I'm loving your video of your trek on the Rota Vincentina! I didn't know much of anything when I walked a few sections of it number of years back. While chilling and resting in Lagos area following a Camino adventure, I discovered the RV quite by accident while touring around the local villages. When i saw a few people with backpacks, I had to hike parts of it and have always hoped to return to do the complete Fishermans Trail. Ending a Camino in Finnisterre or Muxia has a certain magic to it, but my god ending a journey in Sagres is absolutely magical. Having the whole Praia do Tonel to myself to watch the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen... well there's nothing better. Thanks for making and sharing the most honest/authentic travelogs on the 'tube.

Great video. Btw, you don’t need coffee in the morning … you need the caffeine. Consider getting backup caffeine sources when you travel… such as tea bags or coke. On hiking trips, I take normal electrolytes powder to add to water, and include some electrolytes powders that have caffeine.
You can also get caffeine gummies or caffeine chocolates.

Hi Nadine...thanks for all this great information. Just wondering...what about security etc on the trail if something happens. If I get injured, or lost, criminal activity etc. who do I call? Is there some type of Ranger on or near the trail?

@@NadineWalks when I do Camino, on one of the first days I look for my stick which will stay with me the whole time ... this year I had a bigger one ... everybody knew me because of that stick ... without I was "incognito" - Nobody remembered me ;-)

We're spoiled, two videos in one week!
How does the trail compare to the Norte? As I recollect you've walked that twice. I was tossing up between the Portuguese costal+ variant, and the Norte, but now you've chucked the Rota into the mix....😅🇳🇿
