Well done dude, I came because here because someone asked for a full size, metal, good sounding board in a group and invited from the hip recommending this without ever seeing a video of it…. So I came to watch one and it was very well done
I watched your video as I too was on the fence about purchasing the Keychron Q6 Max but did the Q3 Max with the Q0 Max with the Double Shot OSA PBT Side-Printed Full Keycap Set and Gateron Milky Yellow Pro switches. Talk about THOCK
I just purchased this keyboard. I am excited since I am upgrading from a Corsair Strafe I got like 8 years ago, the upgrade was long overdue! Loved your video, man!
I ended up buying all sorts of keyboards from this rabbit hole hobby lol, but I ended up with the NuPhy Gem80 (same as the q3 Max but I like it a little more) and I did the Q0 Max on the left of my keyboard. I go back and forth between the MX Master and the Logitech g502 mouse but the number pad on the left has really been a game changer especially for work stuff Thanks for this video
Glad to have helped. I have a review of the epomaker 21 keypad that replaced my Keychron it’s much lower profile which I prefer. And I now use the Hall effect Q3 as my daily. Review soon!! I steer clear of Nuphy due to poor customer support and dumb design decisions / longevity of products. Their switches are great though.
Just got my Q3 max. Swapped for Akko Rosewood switches and OEM keycaps. It is CRAZY smooth creamy thocky. Once I get my new stabs it’s going to be perfect. 🤩
I agree that the backlighting is not bright enough for their side lit keycaps. I bought a set of Drop shadow side lits and they let much more light through. The sound is a little less thocky but that's a compromise I can work with.
I have 2 Q6 Max Keyboards (1 black and 1 white) I find the rgb backlight bright enough for my use (admittedly my work environment is sorta dark). Thanks for the great review.
You’re very welcome! Do you have the front shine through caps? And what switches? I’m learning that perhaps the switches do not disperse the rgb well enough into the keys. And yeah I’m not in the dark ever thanks to monitor lights haha. But I get ya. It wouldn’t be bad at all except these front facing caps. I have the Q3 on the way in white. So stay tuned. I’ll check it out in more depth with different keys.
@@TristanPope Yes my black one has the south facing legends. And I did an experiment last night. I made it as bright as possible in the room where the computer is located was able to see the legends perfectly (the rgb was perfectly legible) And I have the red switches

@@MrCaptainTeaI actually have another I got the Q3 and Q0 and combined them like I said. So to say yes is an understatement. Amazing keyboard. Update video will be soon. Long story short. Love it.
Love the review. I am myself considering to buy. But i have one or two concerns. My thoughts regarding the weight are somewhat similar. I type a lot n I often move about my keyboard in accordance with my sitting posture. How would you compare this with keychron k10 max or v6? They are full size but in plastic body. Almost half the weight. Would love to hear your review on that, particularly highlighting what i would gain and lose by choosing the plastic body keychron.
I don’t have those but I know what you lose. The sound. Remember these are mass produced boards in china. So you want the latest versions as they fix issues with older versions like the ones you mentioned.
So Q6 is their latest? Also what would you suggest can be an alternative; something that is not made in China, hot swappable, backlit, 100% standard layout?
Honestly for what it offers. I don’t find the price to be that bad. I’ll tell ya why: logitechs keyboard when I bought it was 259$ more than this and made of all plastic and broke often. No way to fix it. This is made of Thor’s hammer. And should last a VERY long time. Now that being said, I find the prices of most things these days to be out of this world. So yes even this which in the “market” is priced very well, in terms of what it used to be, it’s insane. Keyboards used to cost 10$ and 50$ max for a good one. So I feel ya.
Could you put something on the feet of the keyboard that would allow it to slip easier on the mat so you don't have to lift the whole thing up to move it?
I have a few harder palm rests one made out of palm itself haha. And I can’t stand em. I love a squishy wrest from beads to leather. But much appreciated!
I actually have the Q3 and Q0 coming for the split layout from the num pad. That and a Hall effect keyboard too. So if that feels right on the desk who knows probably? Haha. It’s a rabbit hole!! But this one is def an amazing choice that anyone would be happy with as end game.
@@TristanPope Thanks for the reply, and as you have mentioned in the video, you're not going back to the low profile anymore? :O the HE keyboards (wooting, etc) seems to give you that fast typing response with modifiable acctuation point, so you dont have to press the key down as much which is sort of what low profile keyboards lovers like... just a thought
@@TristanPope Yea I took your advice and ordered Keychron Q1 HE (wooting version without the keypad). Thanks for the video and i'm subscribing now+like!
Maybe an obvious question, but did you try adjusting the brightness of the RGB? My Q6 is pretty bright. I was surprised to hear that you were disappointed with the brightness.
Yes and I did it in the video too :P I have the Q3 now with the white side printed caps and the difference is night and day so I have to blame the keycaps not the RGB. Also I run a monitor lamp so if the brightness isn't getting through enough it conflicts.
My quest to find the perfect keyboard is still ongoing. Or let’s say the perfect keyboard was Keytronic KT1000 made in Mexico. Unfortunately I broke it when I accidentally poured Coca Cola over it. I bought new KT1000, but the feel was gone. It was made in China. I’m still looking for that perfect tactile feel the Mexican made Keytonic had.. 😢
@@TristanPope I bit the bullet and bought Q6 with browns and it is just amazing. I never would have imagined how good keyboard could possibly be. Now I’ll just stop talking forever and type everything. Haha.
5:47 why on earth doesnt it have a full size enter button? i wanted to like it but... full size mechanical keyboard and they go ahead and give us a slither of an enter button. yikes
10:20 careful going for the Q3 max, as you can see the fkeys dont align as they should on a full size keyboard. the f1 is almost directly above the number 1. if your used to a full size keyboard this can become annoying as everytime u go for f2 u press f3 and so on
@@TristanPope oh my bad... would it be right of me to say the pcb has south facing leds, the switches are north facing, and the key caps are south shine through? if so, thats just bad on keychron's part.
@@gregg582so I spoke with Keychron and they even agree they can increase the RGB output. The switches are south. The rgb is south. But the dispersion just isn’t strong enough for those caps.
