I still think It's one of the less clunky indie 3D souls like, even more when you consider the team ain't really an special force (and when you notice that the only other 3D souls like that plays good is mortal Shell)
Don't forget Hellpoint has a split screen co-op so if you have a friend or family member or significant other who also like to play games, it is a perfect choice. Because of the split screen, it's the perfect entry into souls-like genre for people that usually don't play them, such is my wife for example, who finds souls-like games tedious and less enjoyable when playing alone, but who happily clocked over 100 hours exploring Irid Novo with me, in multiple playtroughs.
Hell yeah man glad I could save you some money! Have you played Asterigos? If it’s on sale I definitely recommend! I got a review up of that too it’s like an cartoon souls like lol
Dolmen is way better Hellpoint >>>>Hellpoint was so bad i burn my laptop i bought it on Really enjoying Dolmen tho i like gun play as my main weapons tho
I saw many ppl compare Hellpoint vs. Mortal Shell. I just beat Mortal Shell and am half way true Hellpoint. Yes, Mortal Shell is more polished, better graphs, better and responsive combat, but very short, and i didnt want to replay it cause there is not much to do, only 4 wepons, 2 almost similar heavy with slow speed, one fast wepon, one medium speed. Hellpoint on the other hand although wonky combat, graphs outdated, it has breathtaking sightes it looks really beautiful. I really like game feeling of space, obscurity, loneliness. It has many wepons, guns, wands. It has nice mechanic with black hole and its rotation. There are many secrets throughout a game to explore which i find very neat,i like sniffing around every corner. And i think it has nice replayabillity, i decided to go melee only on first run, but ill gladly play ranged combat or hybrid build. Imho Hellpoint is overall pretty good game, its not sekiro level level hard, its just enough hard to keep the game interesting once you invest yourself in it. So i strongly recommend Hellpoint.
Hellpoint is One of the few soulslike that runs on my shitty RADEON R5 230 On low tough, still loving the game even If I can count the pixels on my screen
I haven't played Dolmen, but I did play and finish Hellpoint on Switch. It was a buggy mess, with frequent crashes in between loading screens crossing from one area to another. Long loading screens btw. Crashes when trying to boot the game. Frame dips aplenty. Moments where the game's graphics would just randomly go haywire. Plus it didn't include the DLC! So yeah, I wouldn't recommend the Switch port. That said, I enjoyed Hellpoint enough to force myself through the pain and I'm glad I did. I actually found it to be quite the experience. I too loved the creepy, scifi aesthetic. So much so, that I'm still thinking about it even now. For my first dip into a Non-Fromsoft Soulslike, I think I did pretty good for myself! I hope to get it on PS4 one day when I'm no longer homeless. Hopefully then, I can get the Blue Sun DLC, and truly experience all that Hellpoint has to offer!
Hellpoint is far from perfect and that is because of its budget, but the amount of darkness that it provides, is equal with bloodborne's, not to mention that to me personally seemed even greater at some point. Hands down the best souls like game in my opinion. Miyazaki should be very proud 👏 🙌. I mean I definitely would be and I would also even invest on that team as well.
Dude I agree so much, I’ve play so many souls likes , it’s easily the one that’s stuck with me most . That team is incredible. It’s such a hard genre to nail down and they did it with such a small budget like you said.
played thru dolmen also and loved it. I'm not hatefull towards the developers.. the opposite actually. The more shit is talked about this dolmen, the more I want to play it again. It is a great action game. Hellpoint is currently on plate and so far it feels more deep than dolmen and it is quite a difference. If I want quick action, it is dolmen. If I want my science fiction horror rpg, it is hellpoint. Two great releases in my opinion. The developer teams both took risks and that is absolutely the reason I play those two gems. Honestly! Try to get through dolmen and you would be surprised how good it feels in the end. I mean despite the obviously flaws. Greetz you Nerds✊
@@grittygaming Yeah, when Immortal first came out it got crushed in reviews, primarily due to technical issues and bugs. But after release they patched it up and rebalanced the game, revamped the tutorial, and several other things. I remember really enjoying it. But I'm a sucker for Dark Souls with guns (I loved Remnant from the Ashes too).
@@grittygaming I noticed that earlier this morning. Not sure why they pulled it from the PS store. I originally bought a hard copy on PS4 back when it came out and later downloaded the DLC. Unfortunately, it looks like if you're not a PC gamer you have to really go hunting for a hard copy somewhere... probably not worth it in the end.
Hellpoint looks very interesting, I might need to give it a try. I enjoy the sort of futuristic take on a Souls Like. Might I recommend The Surge 2? The combat system has a pretty steep learning curve, but once it clicked, it became one of my favorite combat systems ever.
It honestly was awesome, I don’t often jump into ng+ but I couldn’t stop playing, my biggest complaint is basically most of the bosses boil down to staying medium distance and then running in and hitting once they finish their pattern 😆 but the game was a blast … say less man , Imma check out the Surge 2 , do I need to have played the first one?
@@grittygaming Nice, I will definitely check it out, been looking out for a good new Souls Like! Personally, I don't think you need to play the first to enjoy the second. The Surge 2 gives you just enough about the world, characters, and story to keep you interested in exploring and learning more. Plus The Surge 2 really polished up the ideas from the first game, and it's an overall much more refined experience.
Thx, almost bought Dolemen, gonna look into Hellpoint. But i gotta say Thymesia's gameplay is really awesome (maybe better then the real soulsgames even)!
Oh absolutely, I fucking adore Thymesia , it was one of my first reviews on the channel, I think the world was lacking in it but it’s combat was better than most AAA games, I think about that game often… thanks for the comment!
By the way , Hellpoints combat is nowhere near Thymesias, what it excels in is that souls like world building that so few souls likes are able to replicate
@@grittygaming hope for a nice Thymesia 2 gonna see how much hellpoint cost! 👍(some games are soo underrated, but also soo many crappy games come out...)
I had a hate & love relationship with Hellpoint but grew to enjoy it. Absolutely hated Dolmen & refunded that shit lol.. great video. Thymesia is a really awesome soulslike imo. Immortal unchained was some bullshit but I loved that game still lol..
Choices don't determine what is a RPG, maybe they did 25 years ago but it's not 1998 anymore, you earn experience and use that experience to level up, sounds like a RPG to me, and technically the term "role playing game" means any game where you play the role of a fictional character, which is like 99% of all games, but I think as long as there's some sort of leveling system and equipment system with weapons and armor that can be improved with learnable moves or skills then it's a RPG, Hellpoint is definitely a RPG, progression, improvement and customization is what makes a RPG, and souls like I'd just a sub genre of the wider RPG genre, sorry for the rant but I've been thinking about this topic for a long time and I just get annoyed with gate keeping when it comes to genres, if we keep the criteria so narrow then there will be no innovation and risk taking, which is what moves any genre forward, or maybe we should just stop categorizing games and just play what we like, forcing developers to fit in a certain box is what sniffles innovation, gate keeping just makes the gaming industry worse and is the main culprit for cookie cutter AAA games
Yeah ur right ! I didn’t think I was gatekeeping I wasn’t trying to state the lack of choices as a negative either but I totally get what ur saying I’ll be more considerate of that in the future thanks for the comment!
