    I have 2 passions when it comes to sports. Appreciating history, and scouting prospects for the future. I've done a lot of documentaries on League's past but want to throw some content out there talking about the amateur scene in LoL (especially in NA) since it's so hilariously underdeveloped and underappreciated. I hope you guys still enjoy!

      Cause gaming ain't a sport. And to claim it is, that's just wrong.

    Imagine the state of LCS if a Content Creator on YT makes more research than most "scouts" on Pro Teams

    • @xyzno1cancer
      @xyzno1cancer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The scouts are content with NA being the retirement home region since it's easier for teams to scoop up the next washed up imports from other regions (that come with their fans) and make big bucks out of it. It takes a team that dares make the difference AND time for that difference to show clear results (reguonal dominance and success at international events) to get the audience of the whole region to rally behind them and make the other teams change, and it is a very risky thing to do, as with any long term investment that doesn't turn huge profits right away.

    Great video gbay, not a lot of ppl(including myself) watch amateurs play so giving them some spotlight is great and possibly don’t stop doing that.I’m saying this because if we give the amateurs some spotlight it can show the fans that there is hope for NA but more importantly it puts pressures on the teams to do more than look for international players and veteran players (my example is Lonzo ball, the basketball prospect was put into the lime light and was picked 3rd overall, let’s just hope that the NA league prospects don’t turn out like a lonzo ball).I really do hope NA teams do win a international title someday.

  • @xWhponderx
    @xWhponderx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really appreciate that there is someone making this kind of content. I want more content highlighting the best up and coming players of league. There is a certain fatigue in seeing the same storylines, with the same players every split. Especially when we all know we are gonna get clapped internationally. I think this is the kind of thing that inspires people to do better. If we start highlighting new players early on it will drive success in two ways 1. Simple popularity is attractive, and if I was a talented player right on the cusp (I'm not) maybe this drives me to take that next step.
    2. I think it's pretty much conceded that media narratives control roster decisions more than objective skill of players, so if we start highlighting up and comers, then teams should be more likely to pick them up over stale academy / lcs players.

    Really interesting video,
    The thing that makes me think btw is the fact that EU as well has this 17/18yo talented players, the difference is that they already play for major teams (see Razork, Carzzy..) and these are the type of players that those NA guys have to compete against (not mentioning China and Korea new young players like Knight). So yeah they might be good there but I will never bet anything on them if this is the competition they are gonna face. Just make a comparison between Razork and Kenvi jungle pathing, do it as well between Carzzy and Acillion, I believe these two will be smashed soo hard we will witness G2 vs TL once again. That said, great video, i would really like to have a talk 1 to 1 with you, you seem a very intelligent guy and it could be interesting to share opinions on this topic.
    ;)

    @Gbay - These prospects are amazing, and as you say a lot of it will come down to coaching. Do you think the infrastructure is there in the NA scene to help mold them to become world champions?

    Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for doing the dirty work that LCS teams haven't seemed to want to do, and bringing some hope to our region. Keep doing this, I see a lot of potential here. I'll be keeping an eye out.

    Drill down into this, you've hit gold. Do a multigame analysis showing where the improvements need to be made. You'd be able to crank out high quality engaging entertainment which I've not seen anywhere else.

    i absolutely admire your optimism, but I can't say I share your same level of enthusiasm when it comes to these young prospects. We're still NA, our gaming culture and our local competition are still not going to be anywhere near as strong as places like Korea and China continue to be.

    This industry is so very new. I remember a few years back there was talk of people being in their mid twenties being washed up and outright unplayable - yet here they still remain. There are traits gained with experience and longevity that are absent in a rookie, and vice versa. It will be a combination - a synergy - of the best of both of these worlds that have the highest **probability** of leading NA to the promised land, in my opinion.

    Good video but I wish you took a look at the other events happening in Scouting Grounds Circuit as only focusing on one can really limit the narrative about the scene. There are teams that are smashing one event but doing mediocre in others and its really good to bring light to the intense schedules everyone is going through for these two months. Either way glad there's some attention at the least.

    Solid review of NA prospects for pro play. I like to think 5fire and Tenacity will be in the LCS sooner than later. Both are such solid and well rounded players. 5fire with his Academy stint blew me away but more so that NO ONE picked him up after his awesome performance. Seriously had me questioning if I just over rated him, but seeing you rank him so high made me feel better haha :)

    Esports are maturing at an extremely fast rate, soon the line between them and traditional sports will be even more more blurred. In 5 years we will be looking back at this video and wondering how there was such little emphasis on player development and academies. Incredibly interesting time to be watching it all grow.

    Great video, you were always very vocal about the lack of prospect development in league of legends. I hope you continue to pursue this passion of yours! Make more videos like this, open a website with ranking and plays of upcoming Academy players. Be the change you want to see Gbay! We support you :) Maybe you can even work out something with Riot regrading this matter, which I agree is our biggest hope for chage in NA! @Gbay99

    Thank you for this info man. I & I assume also like 90% of lec/lcs watchers) don't know shizz about players in academy and lower. This gave a lot of insight and maybe I'll click on the academy league notification next time I get one because of this. Riot should pay you for making this.

    During the Twitch Rivals with T1 Toddles APA went extremely unnoticed as well, General Sniper (who is cracked btw) took mainly the spotlight but I think APA did some heavy carrying himself. So I was pretty happy to see him get some recognition here.

    it's great that at least someone is doing scouting for new talent in NA...
    but gbay is overemphasising raw stats. a lot of these numbers are VERY contextual - especially stats like 'dmg share' which could be bloated by underperforming players in other roles. generally, cspm is considered a "reliable" basic stat; but even that really depends on team comps, lane matchups, even jungle prio. imo, game stats are at best a way to filter out the bottom half of less desirables, if you're short for time.
    the best way to really scout young talent is still... watching how they play live. mechanics and reactions are usually the most highly prized characteristics, because they are really not very "develop-able" talents. game sense and macro are good to look out for as well, but a good org with proper coaching staff should be able to drill those into their recruits eventually. attitude and habits are probably the wildcards here, since some youngsters are malleable; but it's not guaranteed that they will change for the better (getting praise can get to some kids' heads).
    remember: there can be loads of talent out there with poor numbers, even non-chally ranks. especially given NA's trash internet, it's hard to tell whether some players could become world class when given proper infrastructure.
