I just purl one stitch every 10th row...plus I knit both socks, 10 rows at a time, so when I'm done the first, the second is also done! I've probably knit a couple of thousand socks so far!
I make a chain of progress keepers. Say I plan on 50 rows, I'll clip 5 together. Leave one behind and move them up as I go. When they're gone, I'm done. I do the same with increases and decreases. I use a different color for different frequencies...like purple for every other row and red for every 4 rows.
Yep those are my favorite stitch markers and I mark the rounds every 10 too. 🧶💕🧶. I line mine up with the start of my round in case I lose that stitch marker.

I use your method...totally eliminated having to keep paper & pencils handy. I just ordered a sock ruler too because I'm horrible with getting accurate measurements 😆.

I quickly adopted this method when I decided two at a time was too fiddly for me! It makes knitting the second sock sooooo easy. No second sock syndrome now!

I've used tally notebooks, but now I use my markers. Loved it, love it even more now you've switched to transferring from 1st sock to 2nd. Thinking of using in my cardigans etc.

Thanks you for the tips on counting the rows...I would like to know how and where I am best to make the foot narrower as using 64sts for the leg and heels turns works well. ..however 64 sts on the foot results in a far too loose fitting especially when wearing inshoes...just can't seem to get a reliable way to decrease the foot count to 54-56sts.. your advice would be appreciated. I used to measure each sock and I would be off maybe 1-2 rounds each time which never bothered me. This method though is genius!! So much easier than bringing out the ruler every couple of rows when nearjng the heel and toe.
I’ve used stitch markers this way for years (though I usually mark every 20 rounds or each repeat if it’s a patterned sock) and like you, I would always have people asking what was up with all the markers. I was so excited when I saw that you do the same - I felt vindicated, lol! However, I’ve always pulled out a bunch of extra markers for the second sock, so I love the tip of moving each marker from the first to the second as I go and will definitely be doing this going forward. I’ve been placing the markers on the underside of the sock. I like the idea of placing them on the topside. Next pair I’m going to try this method! Thank you Kay😍🧶😍
I have been using the lightbulb markers since I saw you did that. Makes it each sock measures exactly the same. Measuring is less accurate. The only thing different I do is mark the row right after the heel and could to the toe from there. Years ago my socks were a little off with just measuring. So you have the best idea. Thank you.

When I started knitting socks I would use a row counter at then of every round and had a recipe for my perfect fit. But I would forget to click it and then have to count. Then I got cocky (lazy) and would knit away on the first sock trying on as I got to where I thought I needed to start the toe decreases. The second sock was held up to the first to see that it was the same (it never was😝) . When you talked about the light bulb marker method I immediately adopted this method! What a great idea!!!
I’ve always used the padlock markers in much the same way … but I do my socks toe up and 2 at a time so only mark one sock as they are the same as I go. You’re very systematic in the things you do and provide great explanations. Thanks 👍
I started doing this after I started following and subscribing to your channel. I was a pen and paper user too but found it annoying having to keep track of the paper, making sure I had it with me, packing it in my bag and pulling it out…Using the markers is definitely easier and more convenient!

Ever since you first explained this in a podcast, it’s made keeping track of my rows so much easier. I started been the Cocoknits Split Ring Markers instead of the lightbulbs, since I’m less likely to split a stitch. They’re a little less stable, but it’s worth it for the ease.

I use this all the time since you mentioned it on another video. I used to do the write it down, but then I'd miss one or lose the paper before the second sock and have to re-count anyway. This is just much easier.
Great idea to place a different progress marker where the heel starts! I made a mistake I can not fix and have to pull out the yarn at least to where the heel starts and this would have been a great help.
Honestly, using scrapyarn for the same purpose is so much quicker and easy! When you're done, removing the yarn markings takes less than a second, and also laying it over the sock after ten rounds is quicker than opening up a marker, placing the marker and closing it. Us "old" knitters never used stich markers. I use them as progress keepers, but otherwise I always just use scrap yarn. Just a tip to save time.
Kay when you count your rows for the light bulb progress keepers and you are counting for row 50 do you count the row on your needle or the row below the needle for “50”? Another great video, thanks for sharing……🧶👍
Well, the 50th round will be the 50th round. Wether it’s on the needle or not. It’s just whatever is round 50 counting from the first round of the leg.

I have the barrel type row counter that has a ring on it I use it to mark the beginning of the row as I go around so its right on my needle

I do use your method but I put the markers on the back side of the sock. It’s easier for me to see the end of the heel turn then count length of foot.

I do this too! Taat is too faffy for me so I do taat but on 2 separate needles section by section.

I had that problem. Pulling when I was measuring the foot. I ended up with a sock that was 1/2 “ smaller. Maybe I do need that ruler🤣
