She kept her composure for most of this interview but it was so touching when she talked about the appreciation and gratitude she felt when Halle Berry-one of the most relevant black actresses of this current generation-being sure to give HER props and understanding what it took for HALLE to get to that place. That was sweet.
This woman was so graceful and truly elegant. It’s too bad that this representation of us…is not what we see much of anymore. What a wonderful woman she seemed to be. R.I.P. to the legendary Diahann Carroll.
Beautiful, I love Diahann Carroll. I loved Julia, and Claudine she's still a very beautiful, and intelligent lady. She's growing older, gracefully. Very good show, and Host. Thanks.
"The best thing for me to do was to be quite and listen". Very intuitive and intelligent woman for sure. In order to navigate yourself in that industry with a clear conscience...one has to instinctively know the difference between a real friend vs a swamp creature.
Two of the most substantial women I know. I was devastated when Gwen Ifill died. She was a class act. Superior journalist. And Diahann Carroll. OMG. I am speechless. So glad I found this gem!
I loved her 'self respect'. She not only had a voice for music but she showed by her own action's...How to use boundaries and never settle for disrespect. Love her always 💜💌
When I was a little girl I loved to sing. I was very blessed to grow up with relatives and neighbors who had a vast collection of music. All genre's. A music teacher (s) who played music from Pearl Bailey, Oscar Peterson, Diahann Carroll... Sarah Vaughan, Billy Holiday and so many more gifted creatives. My singing talent went unnoticed in my immediate family because it wasn't considered to be a career. Now in my later year's I find myself singing again... it's never too late to do what you 💚💌
Diahann is still youthful looking even at 85 years old. And she didn't need plastic surgery or facelift. She's definitely looked much younger then her age, easily 30 years younger then her real age. She's one of the most beautiful actress in Hollywood.
Loved how she acknowledged how impotence A Different World was and still is to the culture. I remember one of the cast members saying that they were complaining about something and they said someone(didn't say who) told them that they were lucky to be there because they weren't even aloud on the lot back in the day and now we know that came from Diahann Carroll 💙💙💙💙
That was a wonderful interview!! More like a conversation!! The part when she talked about addressing the cast of A Different World and later, talking about Halle was very touching. Diahann Carroll was so cerebral and knowledgeable about so many things. ❤
Talented, intelligent, beautiful, strong, and comes across as a lovely and a complete person. Thank goodness we have interviews such as this on record so we can remember more vividly these great artists and performers.
Julia is one of my favorite shows in the world. I never seen it until I was a adult and I wish there were more episodes. Diahann Carroll became one of my idols after seeing that show. She is definitely a legend may she rest in peace. On top of that she was absolutely Gorgeous.....
I was a little white boy of 11 years old in 1968 and my family and I watched Julia every week and loved it. We were living in a housing project and our neighbors were white, black and Hispanic, and believe it or not, in the 7 years that we lived there, during the 60's and early 70's we all got along and were friends. So, for me, I was not shocked to see a black woman on a TV show, but just happy because I loved Diahann Carroll and loved the scenes between her and her TV son, Corey, I secretly wanted to change my name to Corey. Anyway, I loved her movies and her singing, she was a wonderful actress and singer, a great loss when she left us.
Brilliant interview-- she has given us the platform, it's now up to us to rise to the height of it. She was absolutely right in her assessment of the industry that runs solely on the almighty dollar. May she rest in power, knowing she showed us the path-- now, let's ride it!
Diahann Carroll is another Legendary Entertainer who received her dues in this great interview. Whenever I think of her I think of Dorothy Dandridge and how sad that she didn’t live long enough to see the success of all the ladies who came after her. Dorothy was the most glamorous Black Woman of the 50s, and wihen she starred in her Oscar nominated role in Carmen Jones (1954), Diahann made her screen debut in that film as a plain Jane. Within a decade Diahann would equal Dorothy in terms of Glamorous Star Power. Carroll was the last of the 50s Glamour Queens who help to shape the image of ourselves, may she and Gwen Iffill forever RIP.
This is a great interview. I love that she knew what she wanted in life, and she recognized and accepted her limitations. The interviewer was focused on her marriages. There's no failure there.
She's so fortunate to have had a loving home with both parents who doted on her. So many of us girls have had childhood trauma, because our fathers were never around. Once the predators know that there is no man in the house, they see a young girl as their prey.
ya know, i have watched 1,000's of videos here on youtube and the longer ones i have a tendency to skip certain areas but this is the first video i've watched in years that i watched the entirety of the video. Diahann Carroll is an inspiration for us all and throughout her life she remained intelligent, thoughtful, beautiful but more importantly she retained her sense of self, her sense of class! she never changed the core of who she is.
Such an amazing woman but she seems to tell 2 different stories of her parents. On this interview it’s all praises and in others she’s speaks of how her parents abandoned her
One of the ground breaker, beautiful, intelligent, creative, spiritual, queen 👑,black 🖤 woman made a different, to black and america woman 👠,in general!!!♀️🎂😜😜💕🌪️🌪️🍵💸🗝️🗝️💖🥳😻🕐🥇🥇🥺🪖🍓🛼🙏🎯🎯🌍😘😘🌎😳📻🍷🎨🎨👠🪖🍓🕐🍓🕐🏘️🌎🌎🌎🌎😳😳😳
I've always felt that the torch was passed to her when Dorothy Dandridge died. Dorothy was the right woman, in the right place, at the WRONG time in history: she was too early. Diahann took off as the civil rights movement was taking off, and old racist attitudes/rules were being pushed back on and exposed. The Hollywood movie industry of the old days was breaking down, the rules were being rewritten, and television was becoming the great unifier where Black women were gaining ground. Her flowers and legacy are endless.
One of the most beautiful black women to ever grace the planet and an extremely talented lady too
That's the truth! Please subscribe & share with your friends and family :)
Without having plastic surgery or butt implants. Natural, beautiful, talented lady.
FACTS❤️
One of the Most beautiful woman period. 🤭
She kept her composure for most of this interview but it was so touching when she talked about the appreciation and gratitude she felt when Halle Berry-one of the most relevant black actresses of this current generation-being sure to give HER props and understanding what it took for HALLE to get to that place. "Halle Berry - one of the most relevant black actresses of this current generation"? lol such low standards, geez.
At 70 she still looks Magnificent ❤!!!!
This woman was so graceful and truly elegant. It’s too bad that this representation of us…is not what we see much of anymore. What a wonderful woman she seemed to be. R.I.P. to the legendary Diahann Carroll.
I'm very sad indeed... However we are still out there King. We are just in the homes raising our children and taking care of her husband's.
Both women were accomplished and sophisticated, may they rest in power.
Diahann Carroll and Gwen Ifill were both wonderful. Lost Gwen much too soon.
@@direfranchement I don’t know how I missed Gwen dying smh. She was tremendous at what she did.
Diahann Carroll is pure class! There’s something ethereal, & calming about her presence…even through the screen.
Black women taking the initiatives, or assertive, or confident in there skin ......a Amazing pioneer women....🎩
She was 70 then and STILL BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful, I love Diahann Carroll. I loved Julia, and Claudine she's still a very beautiful, and intelligent lady. She's growing older, gracefully. Very good show, and Host. Thanks.

Then you must be beautiful
You're aunt looked nothing like her I've seen aunt Bertha before she looked more like Florida Evans

I subsequently learned that in another video and was shocked, since I got a different impression here.
@@TheDarkDresser well even if they did , she seemed to gotten what she needed from them to help her to be successful..
