    Today marks two years exactly with my 2014 Dodge avenger. I am currently the second owner and have recently experienced about two of these issues. The first one was my alternator. Just as you explained in the video, my battery died due to a bad alternator. Fortunately, I was able to get another battery within my warranty. However, the alternator I did have to purchase and replace on my own. Total cost for that was about $250. Labor done by me. The second issue I had was the throttlebody. turns out all it needed was a good cleaning which cost me about eight dollars. Yes, I took the throttlebody out for the cleaning process. So far, I’m fortunate enough to not have experienced the other issues. In the name of Jesus I pray that this car continues to take me from place to place.

      I also forgot to mention, has not talked about in this video, that I had to replace both the camshaft and crankshaft sensor.

    2013 2.4L SXT - Bought it in 2015 with 45K miles, currently at 203K. No major issues, just normal DIY replacements (thermostat, ignition coils, alternator, brakes and rotors). Paid off a couple of years ago and has been a good reliable daily driver.

      Dude same. I have one of the final 2014 3.6l V6 SXT models and I love it. Solid, no major issues now approaching 150k miles. Haha as far as minor issues, my blower motor did go out though! I replaced it. The new motor was inexpensive.

      Same, mine went out at about 196k. Other than the power steering being stiff and a couple of actuators clicking, I’ve had no major problems. I bought it new in 2014 and love my daily driver.

      The avengers suck!!!!! Have had to replace an alternator, starter, coils plugs, MULTIPLE THERMOSTAT HOUSINGS…. Not to mention the countless failed thermostats right out of the box…. I literally just replaced the whole housing assembly and have triggered a p0128 because the NEW THERMOSTAT failed.
      Plus the countless electrical issues. The main fuse box location gets destroyed in the engine bay.
      I would rather drive a Prius

  • @BaronBoar
    @BaronBoar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    These issues are relatively minor compared to things that would cause a catastrophic failure to the engine or transmission. Seems like a solid runner to me.

    I've had my 2014 avenger for over 2 years now and it's been very good to me. Only had to do the basics like brakes and rotors. Replaced a hub that's only major thing.

    • @danejurus69
      @danejurus69 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've had mine since brand new 2014 and it has 120k miles and only thing that has gone bad is the heater core which developed a leak. And it has a short in the turn signal switch wiring which causes the dome lights to come on occasionally. I "fixed" that by turning the dimmer switch to half way position. Other than that and replacing battery after 6 years which is to be expected, it runs great. Normal maintenance is key though. I change the oil & filter at 3000-3500 miles. I replaced the transmission fluid at 120k miles like the manual says to. Good car overall. No regrets buying it.

      Mines at 78k already had overheating because of thermostat so I changed it and now maybe most likely bad alternator but need to check the battery first haha the alternator costs over $300 😅

    2008 Avenger checking in. Had the alternator, throttle body, and the engine coils. Luckily once you replace the trash OEM parts with decent METAL aftermarket parts the car is decently bullet proof. Definitely don’t enjoy driving it, but for $11k plus around $1k in parts for repairs it’s been pretty good to me for the past 12 years and counting.

Engine oil cooler assembly, alternator, did all 4 hubs (didn’t need to do all of them, did them because one needed to be replaced), blower motor actuator, power window motor in passenger side. Power mirrors recently stopped working. Fuse?
    I now have an front end issue, front right excessive wear. I got all 4 new tires and rotation. I did not rotate them like I should of.. Have not looked into the slight noise front end issue yet.
    Cars sagging, need to do struts soon. But overall, a pretty good car 😂

    I'm sorry, but almost everything here is nonsense
    1. Ignition coils. The ignition coils on these cars are almost eternal. Over the years, there has been a problem with rubber tips and gaskets. Replacement price - 4-20 USD
    2. The throttle valve on the Dodge Avenger rarely raises problems, unlike the Dodge Caliber, where over the years there is a problem in the gears. In Russia they simply change the plastic gears to metal ones and forget about this problem. Cost - about 40 USD in Russia (St. Petersburg)
    3. I partially agree, there is a problem, but it can be solved quickly enough, especially if you know how to work with your hands
    4. Alternator. Does not cause problems. Periodically (every 70'000 kilometers / 45'000 miles) it is required to replace the generator clutch and replace the bearings. Cost - from 10 USD
    5. I partially agree. But the problem with the thermostat housing appears only in case of improper operation and overheating of the engine. Replacing thermostats solves 99% of problems
    I would name other problems:
    1. Clockspring - rarely, but fails, quite an expensive spare part
    2. Plastic tees of the cooling system (including the neck). Plastic becomes brittle in 10+ years
    I am the owner of a 2008 Dodge Avenger SXT, 226'000 miles
    I'm sorry for my bad english

    Had my dodge avenger 2014 for two year at 178,000. And it is officially done for. I could replace the battery, alternator, and the spark plug to fix it but someone decided to rob my car parts out of it. Wires are gone, my radio is gone, they broke my dash, and they took my spare parts even tho they were completely broken. The car was fine while it lasted though it was giving me issues in the past breaking down every 1,000 miles.

    2008 Avenger in the past 4 years (im 3rd owner) replaced a radiator ($118 new) coolant T-filler $38), thermostat housing in 2021 & again this Oct. 23 (the plastic housing melted n warped), valve cover gasket, oil sensor $28, shifter cable grommet ( $23 online part), turn signal assembly ($40 aftermarket), front n rear engine mounts + transmission mounts ( $200 parts n labor local mechanic)... All of these things done over the last 4-5 years and some as preventive maintenance. The previous owner did zero maintenance... I've replaced door switches, side mirror, center console rest, trunk actuator w parts obtained cheaply from the local ecology. wrecking yard.
    It sounds like a lot, but done little by little over the last 4-5 years it was well worth the $1200 paid for the car used.
    At 240k Miles it drives straight, runs nice on the freeway, doesn't smoke or leak any fluids and hopefully will pass smog today.

I love the car just that it takes time to get up to speed , I know it’s not a sports car but I have a mini van that takes of faster , the communication between the gas and response time is at least 8 seconds. It’s very slow to get on freeway. Once it’s on the freeway at 60 it can easily go to 70 . Is there a solution? Or it’s manufacture defect?

      Mine is a 2010 and you're right its not fast. Its gearing ratios. But I just drove mine 770ish miles on a tank and a third. About 70 bucks. So I can't complain. But I do yearn for the manual trans. The auto needs another gear

    I have a 2010 avenger 2.4. The biggest issue I had up until now was it went into limp mode back in 2015. I had to take off the throttle body and clean it with some brake cleaner and a wire brush. Good as new. Now I have a slow leak I think coming from the tranmission cooling lines.

      What I did was removed the throttle body. Then I took break cleaner and sprayed the carbon build up that was inside the throttle body. What didnt come off from the spray I scrubbed with a wire brush. Kept repeating the process until it was as clean as it would get. Then put the throttle body back on. Done...

    Had my avenger 2009 avenger sxt 2.4 L back in of August 2020 had 135 k and got rid of it around October 2022 had 199k on it. The problems I had was that ticking noise from the ac, alternator went out 2021 160k something miles on it my spark plugs was somewhere around that as well car could stutter as I would drive & had to replace control arm brakes surprisingly it wasn’t a bad car it had 199k almost 200k when I got rid of it I was thinking about getting another one I went to Atlanta from Michigan that car never stalled on me accept for that alternator I’m thinking about buying one with low miles 🙏

    I’ve had my 2014 dodge avenger for about 4 years and except for the first 6 months to a year it’s been nothing but problems that I can’t seem to get diagnosed and fixed properly. I wish I had done better research on this car before buying it but to be honest I had been without a car for a year and jumped into buying it. It’s all paid off and if I can ever get someone who can fix it properly, it might not be such a bad car, only has around 90k miles on it and when I got it I think it had 85-87k miles on it. (I work from home and drive very very little). I’ve been tempted to trade it in just so I don’t have to deal with the hassle, but I don’t want to take on another auto loan so stuck with it I am. I love the body style but everything else seems to be crap. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another dodge again.

    I have a 2012 Avenger that has 2 thermostats that had to be replaced at around 60,000km. Drained the anti-freeze twice so far (Car currently has 110,000km) and had to replace the hoses once. It seems this car has a defective engine coolant system which requires the anti-freeze to be replaced every 30,000km. FCA refuses to acknowledge this issue. Besides that it's a great car.

Now I just started to hear a bubbling noise from that area. After reading about the faulty part from your posting. Do you have any advice so I can try fixing it myself.

    Let me fix your video. Top 5 problems with Dodge Avenger are:
    1 - Battery is located in the left wheel well. You will have to take the left front tire and the inner well lining off just to get to the battery.
    2 - The air actuators will fail causing a tap-tap-tap-tap-tap sound when you play with the heat/ac or even sometimes just opening the door.
    3 - While changing the thermostat isn't that hard, it will require TWO thermostats. You failed to mention that.
    4 - The radio in the Avenger sucks and will stop playing AM/FM. You will get no sound. It will however let you listen to CD's.
    5 - The radiator cap housing is not on the radiator. It is on a plastic hose connector and will eventually break, causing you to lose antifreeze and overheat in the middle of nowhere.

    Just verifying. My first one was a 2009 2.4L, throttle body went out twice in 6 years, both front wheel bearings, and thermostat leaked. Now I have a 2011 3.6L Lux and I've had to replace the crankshaft sensor twice (it doesn't show a code as it goes bad intermittently leaving you on the side of the road broke down with no clue why, unless you're knowledgeable about this problem. I replaced the sparkplugs and the ignition coils before realizing the actual problem. Should be in the top 5 in my opinion.

    I've had my 2013 Avenger since...2013 and it's only needed Tires, an alternator, battery, a sensor, and brakes (knock on wood). Oh yeah and the headrests popped out but that's all dodges and I just got a letter that they're covering the repair under a recall. May need new shocks soon, but not too shabby for 8 years of wear

    I had a 2014 dodge avenger until today. It ran to 140,000 miles. I was expecting to get to 200,000 miles and it didnt make it. About a month ago, i took it on a long road trip, came home, parked over night, and the next morning noticed a rough idle on the way to work. At lunch the check engine light came on. I took it to a mechanic who replaced all the coils and spark plugs, but it still threw a cylinder 5 misfire. He thinks my avenger had carbon buildup on the cylinder 5 exhaust valve. I dont know. Last night i realized valvoline started telling me at 75k miles to replace the fuel filter. I don't know if i did or not. But the engine problem got worse over the last month as i finalized buying a new car. Today was my last day to own my favorite car. I really wish it had made it to 200k. I changed the oil every 4000-5000 miles. I used regular gas. Things i do differently are getting midgrade gas, using a fuel cleaner, replacing the fuel filter, and going back to 3k mile oil changes. It was a very good car for me until the engine went out. Shes gone too soon. Im now a toyota rav 4 owner. Bye to my little zoom zoom avenger.

  • @Lindemann302
    @Lindemann302 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You missed one very common as I see on internet: the transmisión stuck in limp mode (or entering in limp some times other not, but mostly when warm) because of a bad pcm, shows the errors p0700-p0760 but changing the solenoid pack or speed sensors donˋt solve it, only changing the pcm and programming it. I don’t know what causes this, but happened to mine after 10 years an 80k km.
    I opened the old pcm and looks like they used very bad components for thermal transfer, so the pcm heats more and puts a lot of stress on smd components making them to fail.

    I’ve got a 2008 sxt with 181k miles and (knock on wood) the only issue I am having is with the windshield wipers. They work for a good 5 wipes then they are glitching and or stopping. I’ve already replaced the motor, that clearly wasn’t the issue. And then the usual check engine light but that reads for an 02 sensor and something else that’s very minor

    I have a 2013 Dodge avenger. The problem that I am having is the speedometer but not all of it just part of it. The speed has stopped working so I no longer know how fast time traveling the front headlights have stopped working and the horn has stopped working. I still have tail lights and back blinkers, but not in the front.
