- 2022 John Deere S240 Walk Around Minnesota Equipment
I ordered this unit about a month ago and on Dec 4th I went to go pick'er up!
This is a beautiful machine for those looking for a heavy duty lawn tractor that will do more and be more serviceable then those found at your local box stores.
As I have stated before you should always consider purchasing from a dealer, there you will get a unit that has been gone thru, checked out, they will even install your bagger as they did in my case!
They will even include a full tank of gas! Your big box store wont do that.
The new 2022 John Deere S240 has many features you will be glad you have. Lets list a few:
Brand new re-designed bagging system, almost styled after the more professional equipment.
New bagger cover lever to open the bag cover, no more bungee strap.
No more bungee straps on the chute attachment to the deck, it is now done using a very nice lever and hinge system
New John Deere branded Kawasaki motor, upgraded horse power from 18.5 to 21.5. NOTE: The upgraded motor also takes 2.2 quarts of oil. This motor is also used on their premium X350 series mowers
Operator station mounted electronic fuel gauge will allow you to easily monitor your fuel levels
Now uses the Accel-Deep mowing deck for a better quality cut
Heavy duty, serviceable transaxle - same as the one used on their premium X350 series mowers
Adjustable High back seat
The mower deck is spring assist to make it easier to raise and lower
These are only a few of the high end upgrades the new John Deere S240 has been given
Please check out your local John Deere dealer in your area or if your in Minnesota, give Eric a call over at Minnesota Equipment in Rogers and tell him Frank from My Green Lawn sent me.
Hope you enjoyed the video, and once the weather gets nice we will get out there and do some mowing with it and give you our overall opinion on the unit, although I have had one of these before and I can expect that this thing is going to be awesome!

Bought one last spring. Love it. The Kowasaki engine is smooth.
Thanks for commenting. Yes it is a very nice mower. I have actually purchased 3 so far, well 2 for me one for my parents lol
I bought in March of 2021 when the S240 model with all these upgrades was first released. I've had to wait over a year for my bagging system though, and picking that up tomorrow (finally). Can't wait to break it out this season! It's a great unit. Best residential lawn tractor I've ever owned.
Yes since the bagger had been upgraded it was unavailable for a long time. Your right I love the S240 in fact I will be using this one for my lawn care service. It is not a commercial mower but it’s built like one. I will only be doing some fall and spring clean up with it. We also like to use the bagger system when we dethach a lawn, a rider is a fast way to pick up the bulk of the thatch. Congrats on your S240 . Enjoy
So where did you get the bag from I was told it wasn't any still
@@banksboy6806 oh really? Hmm I got the bagger and the unit it self from my local dealer. I’m not sure what state your in but you can call Minnesota equipment in Rogers MN ask for Eric and tell him frank fen my green lawn sent you. Maybe he can help you locate one? Let me know
@@MyGreenLawn2019 GA waiting on a call back now is this the part number buc10907?
@@banksboy6806 Let me see if I can find out.. I will check
Have one on order, 3 weeks out. Mulch kit added. Can’t wait.
its a great unit. your going to love it. One thing I would mention is to check your deck height settings to be sure you know what each setting is, what I'm saying is 3 may not be 3 inches. Enjoy!
I got my s240 and I’m loving it!
Thats awesome! One of the only things I don't like is they changed the metal hoops that make up the bag opening for plastic! Come on John Deere!
Enjoy my friend, its a nice machine!
Just bought one of these. Just waiting for it to come. Super excited
These are great units! You’re going to love it. I had purchased 2, my mom purchased one and 2 of my buddies purchased after they seen and rode mine. Keep me informed how you like it I appreciate it
Another good informative clip like how the shoot has the release lever😀
Yes that is a nice feature, no more bungees, and the bagger removes pretty quickly! Thanks for commenting
@@MyGreenLawn2019 YOU BET
Thank you. for the info Changed my mind and I'm going to order mine on Monday
Thanks for Subscribing Archie. Your going to love the John Deere S240! Congrats on your future purchase
I ordered a s 240 in march told me it’d be august before it’d come in they called at the end of april that it was in with the bagger runs great and cuts even better
Sweet! I’m glad you were able to get one. It is a very nice mower. I have a few complaints about the new bagging system but other then that. Super mower
After looking at the JD 100 and 200 series mowers, I didn’t see enough difference between them to pull the trigger on any of them. The serious JD mowers start with the 300 series.
Yes I own the S240 and the X354 both are great units. The S240 is a way better machine things you can not visually see like a beefed up trans axle, fuel gauge, upgraded bagging system, which I have mixed feelings about, the price difference between the 100 and the S240 is for sure worth it. Thanks for commenting and for your support
They make a turbo for the Kawasaki? Could stand some more power.
Lol that would be sweet haha. The 2022 S240 seems to have plenty of power and we use it commercially. It does a really awesome job. I highly recommend the unit especially to home owners I know they are going to love it 😍. Thanks for commenting and for your support much appreciated
Great video, I just bought mine today and they had 1 in stock
Sweet. You got lucky lol great score!
Good information, thanks for making this video 👍 Great review
Thank you for your nice comments
@@MyGreenLawn2019 Your welcome!
Good video and great info!
Thank you
I've come to absolutely hate the RIO switch with this lawn tractor due to the fact it runs too rough after it engages, almost to the point where I'm concerned that it might be taking the deck out of balance. It seems like if you want no setbacks that you'd be forced to bypass the switch with the correct jumper wire setup, and have it hang up with a ziptie, like the other owners of John Deere Lawn tractors have done. Also, the deck seems a little trickier to get balanced with the premium deck on the 100 series tractor. Could've used two hangers for the front. Also, I set my height on 3.25", but my blade is at 3" when I set the deck or I can't raise the deck to 4". I plan on never setting the height higher than 3.75" when mowing. Need the deck to to 4" for loading and unloading onto trailering. Outside of that, the performance and value is great.
Hey man thanks for your in depth opinion on the mower. This is a S240 series well above the 100 series it is a totally different bird. I have had 2 of these units and have absolutely loved them they are very solid and great running machines. I have to admit I’m a little disappointed in John Deere’s bag upgrade I do not feel it’s as heavy duty but I guess only time will tell. The new bagger system is a little more “PRO” if you want to use the term although we used it a lot this weekend on a bunch of dethatching jobs and several times I had to remove the bagger system to get into back yards it’s comes off reallly easy from the mower no bungees, but it’s a little hard to get back on and I feel like I’m going to break it I mean I would think it should go on a little smoother for a almost $600 bagger.
I have to admit I also hate the safety switches but for the time being I will be leaving mine in place. Thanks again for your comments much appreciated. Thank you for your support and I love to hear what others are experiencing out there!
You need to adjust your deck height. Western equipment has a good video on how to get the proper deck adjustment done.. unless you have safety concerns ( kids, pets) I'd bypass the rio button. It only changes the engine tone and has a little shutter when it first gets started if you tryin reverse quickly.
Great video, I have the tractor just waiting on the bagger system, could you please tell me what the total width is with the bagger? I’m trying to figure out if I need to change my gate.
Thanks
Sure. When I get home I will take a measurement for you
Thanks for the comment
@@MyGreenLawn2019
Thanks
@@rpwestra no problem
@@rpwestra I got a measurement the best I could, looks like it about 50 to 52 inches. From the edge of the bagger tube to the deck. I .hope that helps
Thanks
How is the cut quality? Does the accell deck mulch well? Do you find it diffucult to pour fuel in with the bagger on?
Thanks for the questions Dan. The cut quality is awesome this is my second S240, this one has the new bagger system on it and it’s very easy to fill. I recommend the SureCan gas cans those work awesome and it’s what I use. The whole bagger system also comes off really easy I think it was like 2 pins. I personally highly recommend. Thank you for your support
@@MyGreenLawn2019 Have you had any issues with the bagging system. Ive heard atleast one person say theirs is messy and they called it a poor design, in their opinion. I would like to hear your thoughts on the bagger system if you wouldend mind?
@@dancollins2546 well I haven’t had any real issues, I will say there’s a few things I do not like. Like the bag now only opens so far and there’s a latch on it keeping it open, that’s all fine except I wish it actually opened further cuz when the bags are full the contents of the bag hit the bagger lid. The other thing I find disappointing is the bag frame is now plastic or a poly of some sort, rather then a solid piece of steel in the older version. But I would say most of the improvements are good, not sure the improvements were worth the like $150 more for the bagger system, but it is what it is. Thanks for your question
@@MyGreenLawn2019 Thank you for your help again. Really appreciate it. *subscribing*
Mow much weight can it tow?
That’s a good question. I’m not sure I ever seen a tow weight, I will have to look and update this post. I will tell you it has the same trans-Axle as the next series up the X354. Which I also own and have a video on here. I can tell you the X354 tows a lot. Thanks for that question
@@MyGreenLawn2019 - Would you think it can handle a log splitter up a slight incline without causing any damage?
@@coreelite I would think so as long as it’s not some industrial unit lol.
Here’s what I could find in general
In general, a typical riding lawn mower’s towing capacity is between 290lbs and 580lbs. This is determined by applying a general rule of thumb that a lawn mowers towing capacity is about 50-100% the weight of mower + operator.
The S240 weights 486 pounds
So you can figure the tow weight as stated
Very good question. I may do a video on this
Great video! When do the 2022 120’s come out. Last year’s had some bad reviews about the belt coming off. Do you have an insight on that?
Thanks for the question. I will be seeing my saleman soon and I will ask. Thanks
@Big Game please keep me posted.
@Big Game that’s awesome! Congratulations! Thank you very much. After doing some research I’ve found it was mostly just the 100 & 120’s models. A lot of people were saying it was only a problem with the ones purchased from Home Depot & Lowe’s. So I guess I need to go bigger & find a better dealer. Thank you again. Keep me posted.
@Big Game What do you think so far? Ordering one tomorrow!
@Big Game Awesome! Thanks for the update. I have an old L110, can’t wait to get this new one.
Whats the cost without the bagger?
I paid $2699 for the S240. I was locked in on a earlier price. I just looked at my local dealer, Minnesota Equipment, and the price is now $2899. But everything has gone up for many reasons as we all know. Still a good price on a great mower! Thats only about $200 more. Not to bad.
Thank you for responding@@MyGreenLawn2019
@@billtodd2820 thanks for watching
@Big Game wow going up. Last I checked on my dealer website it was $2899 - glad you got one it’s an awesome mower
@Big Game good thing you jumped on it, they won’t last long
Dont forget the price went up a couple hundred bucks across the whole line starting from the S100.
I paid the same price on this 2022 S240 as I did for my 1999 S240. Yea not sure why, the price on these anyways has been pretty stable, although Brad you are right, I did pay more over all since the remake update on the bags are about $150 more then the old bags. Thanks for the comment
Those bungees were a nightmare and I’m pretty strong
Yea. The new bag system seems awesome. Guess we will find out when the mowing season starts. Can’t wait
Those bungie cords were a nightmare.
Yes they were. The new bagging system should be awesome to use. Now the snow needs to melt lol
Nothin runs like a Deere 👍
Lol
No sound
Hmm Let me try and play it - - -
OK, just played it, works great, possibly your speakers were off or the volume was muted on the video for some reason, please try watching again. I appreciate you stopping by
More black plastic on the rear end, blah. Still the best bang for the buck from JD however.
I would agree I would rather have this model then a Home Depot version
will the Kaw motor last more than 10 years before it grenades like my D-110 Briggs&Stratton? i changed my oil every 25 hours. the belt system was shit after the first few years, the cheap plastic used on the mower that was supposed to keep belt aligned failed constantly. i got really good changing belts after less than a year a piece.
for $2k i got a good decade out of it @150+hours when you look at the big picture, but just the same i was told the lifespan of a maintained motor was between 250-500 hours which i now question.
i looked at other makers as of late, and their all made with "global" parts which is another way of saying Chinese made trash parts.
i even entertained the notion of electric, turns out most all of those are complete chinese Ryobi turds with inconsistent battery performances. given the price of batteries starting at roughly $250 for one of the 4 batteries you'll need, why bother! a $3000 starting price then maybe a $1000 every 3-5 years for batteries, thats if your other electronics hold out living mostly outdoors.
the only saving grace is is the lack of belts needed for operation, on the models i saw anyways.
I have had my John Deere X354 for 3 years now everything is great. I have had a S240 before this 2022 one and I loved it. A friend of mine has an older S240 and its still running strong. I know where your coming from on the cheap parts used, unfortunately we can not 100% get away from it. But you would think for how much stuff costs, the manufacturer would not go cheap on stuff. Thanks for your input! Much appreciated.
Put a sock over that microphone!
Oh yea that was horrible wasn’t it. The mic has a little windscreen on it but yea it wasn’t enough. I wanted to do it inside but he thought it was to dark so we did it outside. Thanks for your constructive comment. Sometimes it is what it is when your on the spot sometimes you don’t have any choice.
