    Hi am from Grenada I grind and soak my prunes in its own jar. I d not grind the currants as my mom told me you need body in fruit cake. So I grind and soak the raisins. Mixed fruit only I add the chopped cherries the day of preparing the cake.

    Where did you get your mixed fruits from? It doesn't have too much sultanas, a lot have 50% sultanas

    Do I have to soak my fruits for 3 months?what's the shortest time in which I can soak it and still get the same result in my cake.

    Please, does anyone know how much rum and red label wine were supposed to add to the fruit mix?

      I had thought maybe it was one of those ones where you could put as much alcohol as you want in there, but I didn’t want to take any chances! Better safe than sorry 😂

    What's the reason some person stew the fruits first?

      You stew the fruit if you're short on time and want them softened enough to absorb the alcohol faster especially if you're making your black cake within a few days or week of soaking your fruit.

    I hope you can reply back to me... I am in the usa and there is no red label wine in any of the stores ,can you give me another alternative wine to use for my fruit cake?

      You can use port wine.

      Manochevitz wine is the closest. The Jewish wine. My husband use some that sometimes
