I actually cried a little. I've been working as a creative 8 years professionally. I just quit a very big senior position because the workplace was incredibly abusive and racist. I took a step back to get certified in UX. For the first time since highschool I have a non creative job and I was doubting myself and my skills. This just made me determined. My years of work aren't wasted, I'll become great at UI/UX. I just wanted to say thank you for the words.

That's amazing. I can totally relate. I recently quit an in-house design position after 10 years to pursue my own work as a freelancer. The work environment was very toxic and unsupportive. My only regret is not leaving sooner. Good luck to you!

Now I know that the only thing that can be called “wasting time’ is worrying, and the only thing that’s important I DOING. oh right, never stop believing in your future.

Feel the same thing about the early days of my career (still on the early days, 7 years now), all over the place doing "random" stuff and learning when the job was already accepted. Never had a big failure, that let me truly down but small ones have occurred to me and was devastating, don't know how I'm gonna react when the big one comes (nobody knows hahahaha). I rarely comment on these videos Matt... but I had a moment and thought that I should on this one. I have always been inspired by your stories, journey and struggle. I keep thinking to myself that one day there is going to be a moment of clarity to unlock and unleash my skills, passion and destiny. Videos such as yours tell a story of an average individual who went through it all, continues to go through it no matter how hard and discouraging it may be at times but just keeps growing . It's just hard and unclear when you're going through it what the end looks like and as people we tend to settle for what works, what is comfortable, safe and for that pay check. Thank you for your inspiration, I hope to tell a story like yours someday. Thanks Matt

This is something I never knew I needed. I can definitely relate, I never had that masterplan thing in my life. I always dive headfirst into some things and just let curiosity run through my body.
I remember the moment when I graduated from college, felt so empty during the ceremony and the only thing in my head is "Now what?". Took a job in customer service, and I hate every second of it. This is my 5th company, same job, customer service, still hate it. I never took a job that matched my degree, Marketing, and I don't know why. (I'm typing this comment while I'm working)
Since when I was in high school, I liked drawing symbols. I enjoyed the process of doing it, like when I draw a single curved line, from there it'll be a free flow of ideas. Then, I suddenly stopped doing it. One day, I found this blank sheet of paper and a worn-out pencil to the point it's just 3-inch long inside the inevitable clutter drawer. I started drawing, random symbols, and logos for some made-up company in my head. I didn't even notice the time, I was drawing for an hour and made a lot of logos and symbols.
Last month, I just bought an online course in using Affinity Designer (Can't afford Ai subscription even though I still have my work) and I'm loving it. The freedom, the possibilities...just endless. Now, I'm nose-diving into logo design.

I didn't have a plan, to be honest. I just enjoyed working on graphics and appreciating graphics and layouts from different artists and designers playing with every materials and other elements. Then, I started pitching for different streetwear brands after doing some fan artwork for them about 8 months ago.
And now, I am working for that brand on a per-project basis, plus another streetwear brands of 2 of my friends came to me for the branding identity design for his cafe and blog, another one for his merchandise.
What I learned from this design journey, be humble, be flexible, show your skills by doing fan-artworks for different brands you have a vision of for their merchandise with no payments involved, and last but not the least. Never forget to always have fun. Money would come second from passion. Keep it up guys. And thank you for Matthew, the guys behind The Futur, and Chris Do.
*Next journey of mine would be licensing. Have fun everyone!

This video is exactly what I needed - now more than ever. The thoughts "am I wasting time on this? Is this going anywhere? What about the future?" were eating at me for the last week. Especially since history likes to repeat itself and the world around froze for a bit. Definitely uplifted in spirit after this. Thank you
