    Thank you so much!! I’ve been hunting high and low on how to do this! I’ve only managed to find videos where you push the door up into the frame or else you had to unscrew a panel from the top or bottom of the door, neither of which were an option for my screens! Now we just need to replace the kitty wrecked fly screen with the new stainless steel mesh we have bought and we will be good to go! Thanks so much 👌

    Hi Kent! Thanks so much for this clear and concise video. I now know how to remove the door - had me stumped for a while.
    My door has the same metal lattice and fly screen also. I was wondering if it is possible to remove the metal lattice from these sliding doors and just retain the fly screen and door frame?
    Ours is an internal door so doesn’t need all the metal lattice and I think it’s kinda ugly.
    Any help huuugely appreciated.

    • @InspireDIY

      Hey Chris, yeah I agree, they are ugly doors! unfortunately the are welded in place when built, if you are handy with a grinder you could cut the lattice out but I really don’t know how good it would look, could I suggest a replacement screen either from the hardware store or 2nd hand from the demolition yard? Best of luck, Kent

    Good explanation. I would like to know what is inside those adjusters because on mine, turning clockwise pushed the wheels out not in unless you keep turning till you get to the end and then the opposite applies. I was not game to try to remove the assembly in case I could not get it back. Could not see how thay came out anyway. Watcha reckon!

    • @InspireDIY
      @InspireDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Richard, there has been a few comments saying different brands adjust clockwise or anti.. seems there is no hard and fast rule as to direction. Each wheel assembly on this door is just attached by screws to the underside door stile - easy on and off! Cheers, Kent

    • @richard1155
      @richard1155 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, Kent, Mine looks the same as in the video but there are no screws holding it in. I can't see what holds it. It just flops about but won't come out. (rhymes eh!) Then I tighten down the top ones so it can't be lifted out from outside by a baddie. Anyway all is ok with the door now but I find I had to adjust the bottom 2 to get the height correct for the latch to line up. BTW I had to do this job as my son's Labrador knocked it off the track trying to get out the dog door designed for a small dog. Great video and well explained which is more than can be said for most DIY videos.@@InspireDIY

      @InspireDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Karen, sometimes they're deeper inside the door and hard to see (but I'm sure you've looked), sounds like the assembly may have been over adjusted to where the screws have fallen out, that's a shame. And I'm guessing you have tried removing the door after adjusting the screws that are there? good luck.. let us all know if you find a solution. 👍Kent

    Hi Ken thanks for the information. Can I place the lock on the other end of the sliding door? I’ve bought a second hand door but need it open on the other side!! 😏😂 Plus it has a dog flap inserted into the door. There is also an extra piece of metal added to the opposite end, which I will need the change also.

    • @InspireDIY
      @InspireDIY  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Julie, that's a complex one. as sliding doors (like hinged swinging door) are made left or right hand the easy answer is no, but if you are up for a challenge you can with some effort: The 'handle stile' and 'meeting stile' (vertical frames) would have to be switched around (and meeting stile inverted if draught excluder fitted so it becomes correctly positioned), the safety glass rotated 180 horizontally within frame, and the handle/lock changed around so lock now faces outside.
      are you up for this challenge? I'd love to know how you get on.. Kent

    This was so much help but I found one of the bottom rollers not freely moving, tried some lubricant with no change, so how do I replace a roller? Any help world be appreciated even 4 years after you posted this video.

      Hey Lancer, when you look on the underside - are they screwed in place or just a fiction fit? I just changed some internal door rollers (wardrobe type) and they pop out easily when levered with a small screwdriver. Best of luck with it👍Kent

    Hey Kent. I think I need more of your insight. We are on the coast aka rust central. The screw heads that adjust the roller heights have become lovely unstable pieces of brown ikky stuff (we call Lennox brown but you know - just plain rust). When I insert the Philips screwdriver and turn all that happens is I generate rust chips. There's nothing solid that the screwdriver can grab hold of.
    Do you have any suggestions? I had the screens installed in 2004, so going on 20 years ago. I have not even attempted to insert a screwdriver in it until today. Of course we are beachside. Salt mist every afternoon. I also know it's a first world problem...
    I know, perhaps I should have realised this before, but nope.
    Can you offer any advice, mate?

      Hey Col, Lennox Brown😂😂 although I bet you aren’t laughing while you are wrestling those rusted screws, can I suggest soaking in a penetrating oil like Permatex super penetrant first, sometimes tapping the screwdriver into the head to break the bond of rust before undoing while applying inward pressure to the driver. Best of luck mate and if anyone else has a suggestion for Col👍 Kent

      @@InspireDIY ta mate. I got to work and somehow managed to manipulate the doors off then back on after replacing the screens. I have now done all the sliding doors; just have to finish the swinging laundry security door then one window. The window has a fixed grille (we need air but since the pub is just 50 metres from us I also wanted some intruder protection).
      Anyway I seem to have stumbled through it, no small thanks to your very helpful videos.

    Thank you for this nice video. Unfortunately my screen does not have adjustments I just had to force it of the bottom rail. No wheel or way to reduce the height of it :)
    Take Two! I do have wheels, but no adjustment. And now I realise that on top I have 2 guides that need to be removed (unscrewed and slid out) to get that extra space to free the sliding frame! I have not yet seen a video that shows this type.

      @meeekstubbular 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InspireDIY That is the tip. If you see a screw at the top holding piece of plastic it would be your guide. And it can't be adjusted to lower it so you unscrew it then fully and slide it out (of the way). My screws were very tight and I did not know they needed to be remove but I could see they did not adjust anything.

    My screws are on the outside and it seems I have to turn counterclockwise to bring the wheels up. The ones on top won't seem to screw and just make a clicking noise when I turn them either direction. The ones at the bottom I can't get the wheels to retract enough. Feel like it's impossible to get my door off! Tempted to just try to bend the frame.

      @@InspireDIY I worked out there was a rubber stopper on the top runners that was preventing me from fully opening the door. Once I took that off it was easier, but still took a lot of brute force and I scratched up my door. Since then someone walked through the fly wire again, I'm not keen to do it all again so I've left it like that for the past year! Haha

    How do you remove the glass sliding door.

    • @InspireDIY
      @InspireDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey unregd, for this style you lift it up into the top track (sometimes needing a second set of hands to use a flat screwdriver or similar to depress wheel assembly up into the doors aluminium) then swing the bottom of door inwards and out of the bottom channel, this gives the door the room to then drop out of top track. You may need to adjust wheel assemblies with screwdriver if unable to depress them enough to get out of the way! Install in the opposite order. Best of luck mate. Kent

    Sadly hasn't worked with my 30 year old sliding door. The screws are stiff and slightly out of alignment with the little hole. Managed to turn them clockwise but it didn't loosen them up at all in fact it made the door slightly harder to slide.

      @@olivechopper Well I got a guy out to have a look at it and he when I told him I'd turned the screws clockwise he said no you're supposed to turn them anti clock wise. He took the door off in a couple of minutes and didn't charge me. I thought of turning them anti clockwise but thought It would just make them tighter and it would make it harder to get the door off. Anyway, problem solved.

    Noooo!! You should never put a liquid lubricant into any keyed barrels. It will gather crap and eventually ruin the barrel and pins. Dipping your key into graphite is the only way to lube.
