You know what’s hurting Rolex more than fake watches from igrotum?? None of its loyal customers being able to buy watches. They are alienating their customer base by selling their inventory to grey market dealers who flip them for 2x the price.
Lmao the funny thing is that Rolex stores is always fully stocked . A store was robbed recently in my city and while they caught the robbers the haul they got was everything in their catalogue . That store had wait times for months !
Exactly. I've been to my AD and informed them of the model I'd like to purchase. 2 years later still nothing. I'm now waiting on the replica I order last week. Can't wake. It's just a watch and then one I'm getting will look 95% accurate. No one will be able to tell, and I'm $18500 better off. F U Rolex!
The one thing you failed to mention is how rolex is treating their customers. Walk into an AD and ask for a submariner, and you'll be laughed out of the store. Rolex makes no effort to ensure that their watches end up on customer's wrists instead of in the hands of grey market dealers. If I could buy a rolex gmt master II or submariner at retail price instead going through scalpers, I would 100% support the company.
@@luiscardenas2899 well obviously not, otherwise why are so many on the grey market? Two days to get one, 1. spend so much on overpriced jewelry with the implicit promise that you will keep doing so, that the AD has no choice but to allocate you one. Or 2. in conjunction with the Authorised dealer, take the watches, sell in grey market, and remit the AD's cut back to him (this is how the majority of new Rolex's are sold).
Pushing out costomers, being rude and simply insulting costomers is a proven strategy used by many established brands to push potential costomers to put thier hands into thier pockets to pull out the Plastic Card and throw it on the sales persons face, simply go over board and buy the products. The ones who walk out are ones who dared to enter the store but really can't effort to buy.. try it next time.. walk into the Rolex store or LV or PRADA etc ..
Didn’t happen like that at the Rolex AD I went to (Brisbane, Australia). Pleasant service, good advice on model availability and wait lists and a short (couple of months) wait for a desirable model. No discount but no premium either and I didn’t have to buy anything else.
Real rolex use white gold for their hands (costs $900). White gold collects light, Replica makers use stainless for their hands, stainless reflects light.

The only reason that Rolex is so pricey is runaway demand and controlled supply. The watch's quality and workmanship is definitely good but not at that absurd price level. Rolex's marketing is witchcraft.

Its a well-known secret in the watch industry. There are watches out there with serial numbers identical to the originals. Only Ziarex has the real deal, and thats no secret.

The salesperson quickly scribbled my name/phone on a piece of paper, tossed it into a drawer, and couldn't wait for me to get out... 😂 I truly understand why people are starting to buy fakes now, especially if they are that good...

@Ken Meyer-Landrut The AD has to run the shop with just a few sub each years. Rolex then have no expenses on distribution worldwide. Ok it is easy to sell watches when there is a waiting list, you basically just have to pick your phone up a call next customer. The split between the blue and red bezel at the 18 hour mark is quite clearly off. Otherwise, this is a very accurate replica. In fact, the blue is probably nicer on the fake.
Also the hour hand tip isn't a tip, the red on the bezel is too dark, the "prints" of the numbers on the bezel also look very cheap and not very clean on the fake. Also I think theblack of the dial on the fake is not dark and glossy enough, but that could also just be the lighting.

What you are basically saying: The premium you pay for the original product is justified by the cost of marketing of the brand, which makes the product well known, so people will be willing to pay a premium for the product. IF this is the case, instead of the original product being more expensive because of higher quality, I quite agree with people who buy the fake! Equal quality for one tenth of the money. How is this even a discussion? And then what happens is the quality of the replica exceeds the original? What does real, or fake even mean anymore? 🤷
That’s EXACTLY what’s happening with replica sneakers rn!!! Nike/air Jordans quality is THAT bad nowadays that replicas are getting thru sites like stockX 😂
Nice vid but a few things to consider. 1. Swiss watch manufacturing developed its horoligical capabilities in the late 1800s to early 1900s when they were counterfeiting American made watches in that time. They because so good at making watches that Switzerland developed into what we know today. 2. I think a lot of people underestimate the power the replicas have on the Rolex we know and love today. As mentioned in the vid, some details are developed (or chosen) specifically because they're so difficult to cooy. The color of their dials and bezel inserts for example. Imagine a Rolex that didn't pay such close attention to detail. Also, details of the modern Rolex like the engraving on the rehaut, the lec, the placement/location of the serial number - they're all a huge part of the modern Rolex and it was all designed as anti countering techniques. So imagine a world where Rolex doesn't have to deal with these issues? When you think about it, Rolex's only real true competition is to replicas.
I would have never touched the brand if it werent for replicas, actually. I hated the sort of masculine sports watch on a bracelet, until I tried one and saw how comfortable, smooth, supremely tight and well finished, and accurate they were, not to mention beautiful. I completely agree with you sir. Rolex as a company need to deal with the whole grey market problem. AD's are selling to grey market dealers who jack up the price. Shows how little Rolex cares about their consumer. You know when apple release a new iphone they limit it to like 1 or 2 per customer. It's to prevent someone from buying up all the stock and charging people an arm an a leg for the product on the grey market. I own a Seiko diver from 1990 or so and after I stopped diving I threw it in a box for a dozen years and never wore it. I sort of discovered it one day and had it serviced and I bought a rubber strap and it still keeps perfect time and still looks great. Stealing a line its takes a licking and keeps on ticking
Those fakes are so close, I would hate to accidentally buy one from a dodgy seller online. All the more reason to buy from an AD (Oh I forgot, Rolex AD's don't usually sell watches to mere mortals) 🤨. catch 22 Exceptional video as always !!
Lol, that's a pretty good point to be honest. In the past, when I purchased my Rolexes, I had the owner sent it to a local Rolex AD for authorization. Costed me an extra $120 but it was worth it i think.
Get other brands that dont have fakes, they may have better quality yet bigger discount discounts than Rolex! For example a .lange can be had for similar prices to Rolex after the discounts. So in truth, people brought themselves the problem of buying overinflated watches and then drive themselves crazy again about why knock offs are indifferentiable.
Which is why you don't buy luxury watches online. Unless it's from a reputable website such as Chrono24 for instance. But even so, I would avoid buying online altogether.
I have to question then... Why are regular Omegas like the Globemaster being faked? I can understand the limited edition Speedmasters, but that explanation doesn’t hold up for other brands.
I think that's true up to a point. But I reckon it's also about overinflated retail prices. If you could get a Submariner , let's say, for an amount which truly reflected the product - perhaps 4.5K - then many people tempted by fakes would probably be prepared to dig that little bit deeper and to wait for delivery (at least within reason) in order to get the real deal. In the past I have owned several Rolex watches (including a pre-ceramic Daytona, a Submariner and an Explorer) and I've now sold them all. I always had an unpleasant niggling feeling that they were assets which, fine watches as they were, simply didn't have an intrinsic value remotely in line with the price paid. The only one I've kept is a Sea-Dweller ref. 116600 - and I've only rather cynically held onto that because very many people have tipped it to soar in asking price over the next 5 or 10 years. (But I still think it's bat-sh*t crazy, though. If the price does rocket up, I'll take the money and run without a second's hesitation...)

@barchenko But think of all the other cool applications for consumer-accessible precision machining equipment! Instead of buying replacement parts for your car, you could just download CAD models and machine them yourself. Someday, making your own custom rolex-quality watches from scratch could be a hobby, where people trade designs and part files online and then make something unique. Maybe you're not interested in that sort of thing, but for me it's an exciting prospect. We're already seeing it happen with 3d printing; metalworking could be next.
@barchenko Only if you're a snob, to most people a good watch is a watch that keeps good time and lasts for years, and looks good, requires little or no maintenance and is affordable. £8K is more than i could afford for a car and even then i would have to put myself in hock for 5 yrs, so why would i do that for a watch? I could buy a Steinhart for less than a grand which would do all the above, or i could pay even less for a quality clone with exactly the same movement as the Steinhart and even the experts would have difficulty telling the difference without an actual Rolex for comparison. I have a friend who has a genuine Rolex and the number of people who think its a clone gets him down,They just cant comprehend that he spent over 30 grand ON A WATCH! Personally i would feel uncomfortable wearing the Rolex brand if I knew that it wasn't a Rolex, BUT i would happily wear the same watch if it was unbranded, at the same time I wouldn't touch a watch branded as RONEX or ROLDEX, so I suppose i must be a bit of a snob too.
I used to have a Rolex Submariner back in mid 1990’s….I loved it for the first week…and then liked it from then on until it needed servicing for about $500…then I just lived with its decreasing time reserve and increasing loss of time. The short of it is that I sold it in the mid 2000’s for about $3500. With that said, I still do like the the watch and the brand but with these super-clones out there….I would not wear one for others thinking it’s a clone…..it really is time to move one to a different slightly more unique…hopefully cheaper brand. Or…perhaps buy an older simple Datejust with its wear marks from its previous owner. The only problem is that they come in at 36 mm at the most…which really is a bit small now. I think this would be an easy test; having handled both I found the "feel" to be a significant differentiator - the way the bezel moves and sounds, the smoothness of the glidelock, how the bracelet and bezel finishing feels to the touch. Worlds apart between a rep and a genuine.
As long as you can't buy from the ADs and greymarket and flippers play it like greedy bastards. That's an option. Why? Cause you can't tell the difference
This is an interesting subject. Lets flip this on its head and look at this in a different way. Many of the so called luxury watch brands has all gone through a luxurification process, this iconic model were once taking you back only a couple of hundred bucks to own them and thanks to marketing geniuses, the price has gone up 1000 folds. These advances technologies which produce today the almost exact replica of the real watches just simply reflect on the true cost of making those iconic watches. People buys these watches for 2 things , the complexe mechanism that has gone into the watch which can be past on from generations to generations and then there’s the brand aspect of it. It’s 2020, nobody should buy new watches that costs a fraction of the actual price to produce and use the technology that exists 100 years ago just for the brand name. The more I look at what these luxury watches can do, the less I’m interested in spending money on them just for the status quo.
Exactly. The only reason I would buy the real one is for the GOLD material that fills the case and bracelet but as a product used to tell the time, it's not worth more than $20,000.
"imagine if those capabilities had been used to create something new and original instead" ....what would have happened is those manufacturers would have been largely ignored (probably even looked down upon) by an established and very influential class of watch dealers and enthusiasts who need to protect the invested interest they have in the Swiss brands...
that's what Seiko and Citizen are. problem is, World don't really need another Seiko and Citizen, Market is already flooded with too many watch brands. and Chinese can't compete with Japanese in this game with their own brand.

The one thing you failed to mention is how rolex is treating their customers. Walk into an AD and ask for a submariner, and you'll be laughed out of the store. Rolex makes no effort to ensure that their watches end up on customer's wrists instead of in the hands of grey market dealers. Two days to get one, 1. spend so much on overpriced jewelry with the implicit promise that you will keep doing so, that the AD has no choice but to allocate you one.
Rolex doesn't have any competition... fake will always be fake, if Rolex had competition, they wouldn't have limited production...
I would have never touched the brand if it werent for replicas, actually. I have two vintage Rolex a Datejust & submariner & a few other Swiss watches, i like watches. I noticed a guy in my local pub was wearing a Datejust & complemented on his watch. He got right SNOTTY!!! as if i had noticed he had a disease & called him out on it!!. That was the closest time in years i had got to smacking someone, what a total twat, why wear the fucking thing?
No you're right. I have a homage of a Rolex sub. Only once has anyone asked me if it's a Rolex (that's because he wore a Rolex day date). Any other time, people just say that it's a lovely watch. Nobody apart from that person has ever said, "this looks like a Rolex "
@@waris3732 Yeah, I have a San Martin sub homage and only one person has asked me if it was a Rolex. I told him it was a homage and he just said ok.
Honestly, I'm just excited to see that high-precision manufacturing technology is becoming so accessible
They shouldn’t be accessible for faking watches 😅 or Rolex needs to get even more precise manufacturing technology
@barchenko that opinion is super outdated and filled with hyperbole.
Tirrell Daveport fakes have always been for losers and they always will be
@barchenko Only if you're a snob, to most people a good watch is a watch that keeps good time and lasts for years, and looks good, requires little or no maintenance and is affordable.
Where did you buy it? Is it GMF, VSF or Clean or a other manufacturer, would love me some of these

Clearly an old Submariner or GMT will have the 40 mm but you won’t be able to afford it. That’s the end of the Rolex story for me….I’m afraid.
Welcome to TUDOR
@@aulzhoefer I bought a Breitling Headwind…gorgeous watch for my needs. Tudor is great…with Blackbay and Pelagos..but it still has the aura of..”well I couldn’t afford Rolex so I got the second best”…

Supply and demand. You would never find a Grand Seiko clone even come close to the real deal, because the price isn't inflated by demand or restricted supply.
Supply and demand. You would never find a Grand Seiko clone even come close to the real deal, because the price isn't inflated by demand or restricted supply.
Come on, just because it looks like a Rolex from a distance doesn't mean it is one. The replicas won't be a good watch throughout life.
@@apangurra2775 Many replica owners would disagree with that.
What site can you buy one of these?

Do a video where you get an expert to blindly test authentic ones and fake ones.
Rolex has an FAQ on their site
I think this would be an easy test; having handled both I found the "feel" to be a significant differentiator - the way the bezel moves and sounds, the smoothness of the glidelock, how the bracelet and bezel finishing feels to the touch. Worlds apart between a rep and a genuine.
"The Timepiece Gentleman" did a comprehensive video about this
As long as you can't buy from the ADs and greymarket and flippers play it like greedy bastards. That's an option. Why? Cause you can't tell the difference
But you’ll know the difference ...
Impressed by the variety and quality at H8Z10. My recent acquisition has become a conversation starter. Great find
H8z10 pure scam
how about weight? is there a weight difference between real and fake models? would precision scales be able to tell that?
PLOT Twist: Watchfinder combined the parts of the real Rolex and Fake Rolex, to forever confuse us
This is an interesting subject.
I realise the best watch to buy is a grand seiko spring drive. You can see in 2 seconds if it’s fake or not
"imagine if those capabilities had been used to create something new and original instead"
....what would have happened is those manufacturers would have been largely ignored (probably even looked down upon) by an established and very influential class of watch dealers and enthusiasts who need to protect the invested interest they have in the Swiss brands...
that's what Seiko and Citizen are.
problem is, World don't really need another Seiko and Citizen, Market is already flooded with too many watch brands.
and Chinese can't compete with Japanese in this game with their own brand.
A lot of the best ones are from North Korea. I don’t think they’d even allow merchants to openly sell North Korean goods. Much like Iranian pistachios and $19 ultra high quality jeans.
The only thing holding me back from purchasing a super-clone is the idea of cheating my way to having something that says “Rolex” on my wrist. Even if I’m the only person that knows its a fake, I’d be disappointed and your own opinion is the most important one.
I'd prefer it if it said "FAKE" on the dial.
why not both? that way u earn it but also u can wear a beater on vacation
@@Yoshikaable I'd much rather have a real Hamilton or Longines on my wrist on vacation and leave the Rolex at home than a fake Rolex.
Even if it’s genuine. People will still ask if it’s a real Rolex. That’s the downside of this brand.
@@DavekayBSC Why wouldn't you take your Rolex on vacation anyways?
Where do I get one
The blue-meets-red under 18 gives it away, but I figure 99% of people don’t even care you’re wearing a watch. Of the 1% of other dudes that are impressed, none of them are going analyse the watch so hard they notice/ nobody has the legit version to compare side by side ... and who would do that anyway!? I feel like people would buy the fake because they want to portray the image that comes along with a Rolex & that’s exactly what you get. You buy the ‘super fake’ and people will just complement you on your Rolex - mission accomplished..?
Exactely, if you buy a watch for the eyes of others... If you buy a Rolex to attract and sleep with a gold digger, there's absolutely no need to buy the real one. If you buy it for yourself, you're never gonna get happy with it.
@@MarcoDeLasVegas I beg to differ, for one, you have stuck it to the man, you have beaten them with their own weapons. I would be proud to own a watch thats NEARLY as good as a genuine Rolex and not be in hock for it. I am of course talking about QUALITY clones, not cheap Hong- Kong £10 Rolex's. Yes I would prefer it if I could afford the genuine article, but in the meantime a clone will do, But in all honesty, if I was a millionaire i wouldn't pay the prices Rolex charge, as a matter of principle.
cant post it on instagram or facebook though :)
@@iamrocketray if you want to stuck it to the man you buy a cheaper brand thats more "bang for your buck" say a longines or hamilton. You wear a fake rolex to impress whoever gets impressed by a rolex and show a fake persona/wealth etc.. any other excuses are simply that, excuses..

I am not sure what you are talking, but not one part on these whates is created with 3D printing or or any other addetive manufacturing method. Yes technology is whay better then 20 years ago, but additive manufacturing is not the reason fake watches are getting better.
True. At most they 3d scan the gen one to obtain the cam program for milling machines, but surely that's not 3d printing.
@@AlessandroGenTLe You could do that with touch probes and software years ago.
@@dimman77 Yep, but now they do with laser 3r scanners :) Much quicker
@@AlessandroGenTLe They're not saving much money of a few minutes difference.
Super3xtr4 Agree. 3D printing has nothing to do it. You can't 3D print the watch or any parts.

Rolex should make their own fakes and sell them as factory seconds.
ATTENZIONE A WATCHFINDER! PESSIMA ASSISTENZA!
Rumor has it they supply some of the fake manufacturers with a few parts, which I doubt but...
They'd undercut their own market, it simply wouldn't make sense.
Is that not what Tudor is? 🤫
some luxury brands collect un-sold products when the season is over, and burn them, rather than selling them at discount.
the other side is that rolex have overpriced the steel rolexes and limited supply have hyped used prices so people like me cannot buy one so here in lie the dilemma. i would not buy a fake but i can understand why people would and i will not say they are wrong as long as they dont pass it off as an original. they should call it a replica
This is the big thing right here, I have no beef with people who buy reps (of anything, not just watches) as long as they're honest about it.

A couple of years ago whilst on vacation in The Canary Islands I visited a jeweller to look at a grail Omega Speedy. My attention swung to a Rolex Explorer 2 Polar, the jeweller had one to sell straight out of his shop window. Reasonably priced too, but somehow we ended up with him pushing a Longines VHP Conquest Quartz and autos, with offers of a glass of wine whilst trying on a model! I told him ‘Rolex Exp 2 all the way, let’s go my man’ .., He blurted out my commission is more on the Longines and awarded instantly. I put my credit card back in my pocket and walked out of the shop empty handed, but happy. Somethings got to give in this crazy watch industry…
It really depends on priorities..... the number one function of any watch is to tell the time, accurately... (or is it?) and secondary to that is style, form, functionality, statement.
Given the countless homage watches and the accuracy of Quartz, the main statement a real Rolex makes is ‘I can spend thousands on a watch’ made by a Company that spends my money on sponsorship and advertising....
Well good for you!
I prefer Omega any day.
Literally everything you said about Rolex, goes for OMEGA as well. I fear you suffer from delusion.

Rolex is the perfect watch for the massively insecure. 31 years ago I had a GMT Master, $ 750 at the time. I was in Lucerne CH walking through the biggest watch store. The sales lady offered to buy it off my wrist. I asked why. She took out a notebook with at least 75 names of those who wanted one. I did not sell to her but years later I sold it for many thousands. And the Orange hand Explorer 2 I bought for my dad in Chicago in 1977 for $650 I sold for over 20K. It’s insane. I’ll never buy another Rolex and they sure won’t miss my business

I literally had to buy this watch for double the retail price on gray market. I was on the list at five AD’s for over two years and was never called. I inquired several times on the phone about it as well, and one AD even told me your best bet is just to get it on the preowned market because Rolex it is not even allowing to do a waitlist anymore.
sorry but puzzles me deeply on why on hearth people would put themselves on "waiting lists" for anything ( same goes for cars, etc) maybe its a status thing..its your money, they dont want it? fine..there are much better watches out there for the same money. if you have a rolex on wrist, many people will think its a fake anyway...
buying them at the inflated grey market prices are just keeping the ball rolling for these disgraceful practices by the flippers and sometimes the ADs themselves.
