Thank you for this video - I have just ordered 6s and 7s and will test them both and for £20 all in for both sets it makes sense. I had bpr8es when i bought the car and changed them immediately to bpr7es. 1380 engine running very rich so also fitted a wideband afr. I really like the reminder about gap measuring too.
Crystal clear and well done. Sounds like my very hard driven road 1330 with Megasquirt, Calver head and dual coil pack should stick with BP6. Per your instructions I need to squeeze down to 35 thou gap from the 40 I’m at.
Which is a trusted ht lead company to buy from please people. And which type. I’m using them on a standard ford Crossflow 1.3 engine. A viper 0.7ohm coil. Electronic ignition. Bp6es plugs. But this channel seems knowledgeable about all this even tho it’s for mini. Thanks for any help
I use those headsets sold by powerspark, cheap enough and the specific resistance is right in the range needed for classic engines. Fit a new set every year.
@@ACDodd fantastic I’ll call them Monday and get a set. I mentioned I bought their coil due to your videos. They knew the name!👍🏻 I gapped the plugs at 35tho today and it didn’t want to run great. When back to 25th and better. But I can know at all until I get some better ht leads. As mine are old and only standard. Thanks for the help. And great videos👍🏻👍🏻
I have an NGK distributor cap with the HT leads terminated with NGK resistor plug covers (LB05EZ) that contain a 5K ohm ceramic resistor. Are these plug covers robbing the ignition system of power as the R plugs do?
I have come across fake ngk plugs. Client fitted them to a high spec bmw and had issues. I swapped them for some genuine ones with genuine coils problem went away. Another aliexpress purchase.
How can I answer this question when I don’t know the load or engine condition. You have to work this out for yourself. Suffice to say 2 or 3 Laps on a track day will show this up straightwaway.
@@ACDodd sorry I should have given more information, like standard 998 or 1275 used as a daily commute car. But appreciate your answer regarding as little a 2 laps pushing on a track 👍
I've checked my coil (checked the leads on the meter first)it's a 2.4 ohm coil, I have a low compression electronic ignition, you clarified this a while ago , as I sent you a picture of it. plug gapped at 25 tho. Do I have the wrong coil? Should it be a1.5ohm? or is the one I have ok? Thanks for all your help. Tony@@ACDodd
6’s for road and monitor the plugs. If you do track days, put 7’s in for that work. Only go up a heat range if the plugs show signs of distress. I can’t tell how your engine will respond, that’s the whole point of reading your plugs
When I watch your videos, I realise how much I never knew.
Thanks for this
Channels like your's are a Godsend to amateur engine builders
very knowledgeable love the topics
Thankyou
Another great and informative video. So much of what AC shows us I would never consider. Such depth!
That’s the point, people don’t consider the bits that matter.
Very useful video learning every time I watch one of your videos.

It's not often I comment on vids AC but this is really helpful and informative. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative, learned a lot with this video👍. Keep them coming.
Very useful, thanks !
Concise, and to the point! Great advice.
I appreciate that!
Nice work and well explained. No doubt there will be a peak in NGK sales…..😂
I’m off to check what plugs I have in my 1275 MG Midget now. Great video Thanks.
great advice many thanks

If it’s hard driven bp7 is your option, be guided by reading your own plugs
You read my mind!!!
Great info AC. Thank you
Any time!
Really great video AC!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant, just found you and subscribed. Thanks
Thankyou
Love it! Thanks!
Very helpful, thanks 👍 Would you also use a non-resistor plug on a 123-ignition or will these ignition systems benefit from a r-type plug?
I would use non resistor
@@ACDodd thanks for the advice

Does EI not make a difference? I have Accuspark and use their recommended plugs that go with the dizzy, HT leads etc
No

Great video. Whats your view on indexing plugs for A-series, worth doing or only for track/comp engines?
That’s a great question! To be honest I have never measured it. It would be worth a try.
I have an NGK distributor cap with the HT leads terminated with NGK resistor plug covers (LB05EZ) that contain a 5K ohm ceramic resistor. Are these plug covers robbing the ignition system of power as the R plugs do?
If that’s the only resistance in the system
Then you are all good, but if you have resistor plugs and resistive leads as well then that’s too much
@@ACDodd Thanks AC, I'm running NGK BP5ES-11 non-resistor plugs.
Have you any experience with non-projected electrode plugs? I’ve seen a few mini shops suggest them eg B7ES and B8ES
In my experience the engines don’t run clean at lower rpm, definitely a competetion use only plug.
@@ACDodd thanks for the advice
Are counterfeit NGK plugs a thing/problem?
I am
Not aware

Roughly how many miles on new plugs do you think it takes to start showing the brown spots if hot or fouling if cold, 10, 100 or 1000?

BP6E or BP6ES
