It looks like you use a co tester to check if a car is running rich or lean. What do you recommend i use? I found a Gunston gas tester or an afr gauge with lamba, and colourtune plugs. Thanks for your advice, Hannes
I'm in the process of doing this on my MGB (standard internals with Pipercross filter and tubular manifold). The standard ACD needles are far too lean and the only way to get the car to perform right is to have the idle mixture too rich. I'll be experimenting with different needles to get the AFR right across the rev range. At the moment if I set it right at idle it leans right off under load and at high rpm.
@@ACDodd Thanks, I AAD was a typo - should read ACD. I've got some AAA needles coming so will fit them and get the AFR meter back on and see how it goes. If they turn out to be too rich then I'll try ABDs
Another very informative video, I now understand the base setting once set many thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Another top video AC, can feel my carb coming your way in the new year ! 😂
Darren is Awesome, he’s worked on my mini here in Colorado!
Yes, he is was a very good student and is putting what he learned to very good use. I am glad he was able to make such a difference to your car.
@@ACDodd actually you are rebuilding a carb for Darren to go onto my mini , ones for a twin and the other for my 850 .
@@kendavis5456ah yes, I have a lot of carbs going though right now which are destined for Colorado!

I use a wideband gauge set to measure lambda.
@@ACDoddwhich one?
@ AEM or innovate.
Very interesting video, do you ever work on SUs fitted to engines other than A series?
Yes, I can work on all engines fitted with SU carbs.
How much is the cost of a Rebuild by yourself please

That’s because the needles are wrong for the application, you need that corrected really before you drive the car again
