As a human from this city, it's pretty shocking to see such division right through the centre of a capital city. The people who were fighting years ago are probably no longer even alive, can't we just learn to move on?
Dear Sir or Madam, sorry to reach out to you in your comment section but i couldnt find an email adress. My name is Esra Laske and i am documentary film student from Germany. I am right now researching for my diploma project. I want to make a documentary about the people that live around the buffer zone, what they everyday life is like and what they wish for the future. I am really interested in the forced division of the country and what it still means to the inhabitants because my family also lived in a divided country and capital in the german democratic republic for a very long time. I experienced what it did to many of my family members and what changed for them after the border opened. Also i am very much interested if the division still effects the young generationI would be very happy to hear from you. Thank you! Greetings, Esra Laske
Saying you are "Cypriot, not Greek" makes no difference and no sense because Cypriot is an Ancient Greek toponym that describes the ability of Aphrodite. The name Greek/Hellene defines your culture and language. Ethnicities are not defined by blood or DNA. "WE ARE ALL HUMANS" SHOULD BE THE MESSAGE! However, the reason Greeks and Turks started fighting from the first place, is not because they have different ethnicities, but because the Turks never respected the fact that the cities of Cyprus were founded by ancient Greeks. We should all respect the creations and cultures of others and be more civilised. Respect Cyprus itself!
If there would be no Turkish military intervention in Cyprus, there would be not a single Turkish Cypriot in Cyprus. We have wait 52 years for a federation but what happened?? Who has rejected the Annan plan?? Only a Two state solution is acceptable in Cyprus.
@@lottintv3518 I keep hearing the same story over and over again. We rejected the Anan plan because it was not fair and you know it. Moreover, you have to realise that Greek Cypriots are fighting to keep the cultural identity of the island ALIVE, which you keep destroy with your ignorance and your political interests. Some things are more important than political power my ignorant friend. You have to realise that.
@@iridanos1443 When we opened Maras(Varosha), we told that our Greek Cypriot neighbors can come back with the help of the UN. What about Turkish Cypriots properties in the South? Have we heard the same thing from Anastasiades? Unfortunately NO. If we want a solution the only way for that is either a Two state solution or a confederation. But without a shadow of a doubt there will be no federation. This is clear. We will never allow a second BLOODY CHRISTMAS, Erenköy disaster, Gazimagusa Massacre. As I said unification is only possible through CONFEDERATION. Stay Safe👍
@@lottintv3518 Both sides were killing each other. The Greek army committed atrocities THEN The Turkish army came and committed even more savage acts and tons of ethnic cleansing. Aa for The Turks promising people their homes back, what Greek Cypriot would trust such an offer? The place was closed off for decades to prove what dumb point? The Turkish offer is trying to stop lawsuits against Turkey in The European Court Of Justice. It is not a sincere one. There are Turkish Cypriots living in The Republic. So your point is poorly made.

efkaristo poly, thanks for showing this video. As a former member of the Austrian UN in Cyprus (1992)i have been there once training for the Force Reserve. Salamis carton factory was our base camp and i had also duty in Strovilia. I listened to both sides, greeks and turkish people, very sad to see that there is not much movement or progress in the conflict. 😢Cyprus will always have a special place in my heart, so many memories. ❤
I hope for peace but if you know both sides of history you will know there will never be peace amongst the Greeks and the Turkish people. You can have individuals helping and being friendly amongst each other yes but you have to understand something with such old cultures, they have a high respect and loyalty to there forefathers and what they faught for (both sides) so you have that aspect in not disrespecting your own family. Then you have the religious side to it in regards to 400 year rule with the Ottomans. Greeks will never get over the fact they were treated like second class citizens all those years and thousands died to get independance back. 400 years is a lot of generations to the Greeks. Then you have that same problem that the Turkish Cypriots had to endure in Cyprus since they have always been there but a minority. There are valid points from both sides in that argument so there will no likely be peace til a few generations down the track where they wont care what happened in the passed and everyone is "New Age" < as bad as that sounds its the only resolve.
You've no idea what was lost and who was lost not as simple as just saying resolve it. People want ther land back and family laid to rest Turkish and Cypriots. Hopefully one day everyone can have ther land house back and all live together wouldn't that be nice
No we are not, unless if the dear Turks give back all the properties to the Greeks; their original owners. Then they could spend their own money to build their own homes. Also, there are more than 1700 Greek Cypriots that are still missing. Sometimes I see France, or Italy, or Spain, and I really fill sorry that we have the neighbours we have.
